sorry to break in. but the 4 track cassette recorder & the great sound that i get when i run my guiar thru the dedicated guitar only input jack. our host with the most & you both know why that happened. you referenced in above text & clem. said it. i was 12yrs old in 1980 when it seemed a lot of artist from most genre's were all on the same lyrical topic. not all the artist , though... one of my fav. bands was dealing with a band mate's death & was coming back to work in thier funeral clothes. and john anderson was clearly , but prolly not safe, was checking charlette's oil right there on the porch swing, and joan jett was composing love songs about her job.but these other guys were all into self pleasure. michael jackson was "beating it".. our not so Quiet riot rockers was banging thier heads. jagger & keith was shaking it up. john waite had to of been doing something he wrote his ex that he wasnt missing here. duran duran wrote, prolly later on, talking about edging. with the reflex. cindy lauper wasnt into headbanging.... so she just bop , bop , ohhhh, shebop. british bill idol, just listen to his record collection & dance with his self.. it was crazy. my mom had just moved us to the bottom half of our state closer to her sisters and mom. and i lived within range of a clear FM signal that was strong enough that it came in in stereo. our state bigges Rock station. but it was static'y and crackily like the south of the state needed to de-oxit thier pot.'s. i miss the rockers, tom petty, styx, floyd, kiss, uncle ted. the freaking eagles, paul rodgers and his company , i could still hear foreiner but they started playing love songs , and brian may was making great sounds every 5th song they released, areosmith had took a break or something, really. steve perry made a love song, who else, floyd had not put anything new, my young cousin was all into this one song that was great. but bocephus wasnt rocking then he was surving new york city & the mississippi river water level disappering. willie made millions & became ledgend with a song about his job & he loved it.. kida like joan did. i literally heard like from 50% of the songs from my home northward in 1979. were new release material. yeah i know we had the disco.. but naww. funkytown ??? the bee gees. that had groovey bass lines and the had the vocal harmony this down. then maurice is hitting the high "c" soprano notes. but .. naw. bob seger and his coors lite band great music. good for road trip until you take one down lower state and the year numbers on paper chart on wall & everyone took a break .. some made love song or two by themself. ohh. it was a shock. it changed quickly, malcolm and his small brother had another friend that could sing. and he could work with them , but be respectful. . and they came back and rock bands started showing up . british deaf predator cats brought on the heartache. the ratt's showed us how to lay it down & round and round. kevin bacon learned to dance as did the flashdancer . ole jackson boy got some more scarier songs and knocked a girl up or she just claimed he did but it still unknown. the eagles made it back from thier long run but they didnt hang out. so it was a good thing that they were a supergroup & smuggled some dirty laundry the rocky mountian way. and hey. we had the cars ! we had a group that i never heard in my life an dont care if i ever again do. thier singer really tries . just watch his neck tendons and he really tries... but all i can see in my mind is a boomstand for him trying to help an extra large loaf that had became un malleable. help it with vocal vibrations & i think it musta worked. his large colon would contract on time to emphasize key words .... i was (cramp) BOOOOORRRRNN . in the yus ahh. . yeah. this took way to long to tel why im a 80's fan motley, poison, jovi, twisted snider, tom kiefer, tesla, and on and on. zackwylde. helped oz into the new .aerosmith resurfaced. tom petty . scorpions, disco duck died, paul simon helped do much he had the world focus on a video game. and we all was glad to be lied to by madonna . 1st time my ass. lol hey im out gotta go. latter. 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

I was just making it all up as I went along but I saw this comment a while back when I was on a break from youtube and I listened to the song and I was like Dang!, that is almost 100% exactly the same thing almost the same chords the same sounding mix the drum sound... you nailed that Aldo. @@MrMetalclay Thanks I apologize that it didnt contain the building of a physical tape delay machine but you can use the info to take 2 tape recorders gut them and use 1 for recording and one for play back in the same machine and make a delay with either a tape loop cassette or making reels and putting a tape loop or reel of tape on it like the reel to reel in the video or an old echoplex... @@heavymetalATC yeah I'm going to try some of these, especially the flange. There's a guy called Joey Pizza Slice that records multitrack in the weirdest way you could imagine, if you haven't seen the video go check it out
Thanks again Rob. I find it funny that most of the vst pluggins we use in recording are actually emulations of things done on tape and from bouncing an audio track from tape to tape in different ways.
@@heavymetalATC That's true. I started my music recording back in the late 80s and early 90s with TASCAM 4 tracks and the like. I still have my TASCAM 424 which is in excellent condition. BAck in the day we may have been limited by what we had in terms of sound quality and number of tracks - I remember having to bounce all my guitars down onto one track so the vocalist could use 2-3 tracks for harmonies. And we'd end up with these recordings of dubious quality (destructive in a sense because we couldn't go back) Now with digital DAWs and even hardware multi-tracks (i have a ZOOM r16) I find myself spoilt for choice, but only use about 4-6 tracks - mostly I just record a 'live' stereo jam. But it is great to still have my 4 track which I can put in the signal chain one way or another. I have also collected an array of tape players from reel to reel, mini recorders, shoebox recorders, etc. All this stuff is great fun -and really - better than just trying to emulate the same thing digitally. Its the process as much as the final result. Man, I have really enjoyed your videos and love the American (southern?) drawl - I'm coming at you from "ORS-TREELIA". Take care man and keep pumping out the sound!

Also you can use a tape recorder as a lofi sampler by recording a single kick, snare, hi hat, synth note, guitar note or bass note into the tape player. Then you record that note back into your daw. You can use this effect to dirty up a keyboard sound that's too digital or give some gain to your drum kits.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave such a detailed and useful comment Desperadow. Great tip absolutely useful. I have also found that letting something play out into the room and rerecording it just like a simple cheezy reamp and then fading it in with the original will also help a lot on digital sounding synths. I heard that Depeche Mode used to play their synths through old tube guitar amps like fender twin reverb way across the room for this reason. Thanks again bro great tip.

A long time since the last comment, but still, great fun video. I've been messing with making a cassette deck into a tape echo, but kind of failed. Now watching this, and armed with a nice cassette deck from 1973, it looks like with a bit of effort I can make it happen without moving tape heads around and all the mixing and splitting of signals and so on. Plus, learning I can ADT, phase and flange too is just fantastic! + Another Brit who finds your accents funny, if slightly inaccurate as you say! Peace!

it changed quickly, malcolm and his small brother had another friend that could sing. and he could work with them , but be respectful. . and they came back and rock bands started showing up . british deaf predator cats brought on the heartache. the ratt's showed us how to lay it down & round and round. kevin bacon learned to dance as did the flashdancer . ole jackson boy got some more scarier songs and knocked a girl up or she just claimed he did but it still unknown.
the eagles made it back from thier long run but they didnt hang out. so it was a good thing that they were a supergroup & smuggled some dirty laundry the rocky mountian way. and hey. we had the cars ! we had a group that i never heard in my life an dont care if i ever again do. thier singer really tries . just watch his neck tendons and he really tries... but all i can see in my mind is a boomstand for him trying to help an extra large loaf that had became un malleable. help it with vocal vibrations & i think it musta worked. his large colon would contract on time to emphasize key words ....
i was (cramp) BOOOOORRRRNN .
in the yus ahh. .
yeah. this took way to long to tel why im a 80's fan
motley, poison, jovi, twisted snider, tom kiefer, tesla, and on and on. zackwylde. helped oz into the new .aerosmith resurfaced. tom petty . scorpions, disco duck died, paul simon helped do much he had the world focus on a video game. and we all was glad to be lied to by madonna . 1st time my ass. lol

The fact you mentioned loo' mu' nocompu'e is amazing
I love the guitar tune.
I love everything about this
Rob Pascual That is great. Thank you for letting me know.
Ditto dude. Ditto.
The end result sounds like the beginning of Dokken's "Alone Again". Love the video man.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write this comment Aldo. I was just making it all up as I went along but I saw this comment a while back when I was on a break from youtube and I listened to the song and I was like Dang!, that is almost 100% exactly the same thing almost the same chords the same sounding mix the drum sound... you nailed that Aldo. It definitely sounds like that song.
Great vid! Very interesting entertaining and informative.
Excellent!
Thank you so much Mynoise. Im glad you found it entertaining.
I love watching these videos. You're a wealth of knowledge and you put things into perspective using everyday, ordinary things to get real-world results. It goes to show that you don't need a multi-million dollar mixing board or studio to produce fantastic music. Thank you!!!
Thanks bro you are one kind and dedicated viewer I appreciate it greatly.
This is hilarious man! Really cool and easy to understand too!
"hair-spray-mullet-ballad" I love it!!!
Thank you for watching and for taking the time to write such an awesome and kind comment Groupie. Hahaha I thought somebody might like that. Those were the Coke.. Thank you for sharing this!! A good friend gave me two Slim Line decks and I intend to use them like this. Thanks for the in depth lesson!!
Excellent,Informative and helpful! (and
that UK impersonation was so terribble it was brilliant!)
thanks, I think this is best explanation of old tape effects I've seen!
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write such a kind comment abominable. I am so glad you liked the video!

Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave such a kind comment Mike. I hope the tricks gave you the effect you were looking for and that you had fun.
@@heavymetalATC i tried it but all my tape devices were too crappy and unstable speedwise haha , but i´m currently fixing my reel to reel in the hopes of trying it again with the results you got ! :)
flawless video, good sir
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment Akshay. I appreciate the kind words.
It's amazing what we can do with analog tape now that we have digital recording.
Absolutely and it ads the vintage sound like magic.
This was hilarious and informative at the same time, pity more ppl haven’t found it. Great video
Thank you so much for watching and for leaving this awesome comment Joel. It has gained quite a few more views in the last few months.. very good for this small channel. I really appreciate the kind words and sentiment... thanks again.
Awesome, I got a Strymon Deco for this sort of thing, might be my absolute favorite pedal.
Yes, that syrup drip warble sparkles "thing?" Strymon is good stuff.
@@heavymetalATC Buying a $3-400 pedal is a big deal to me, so I do a ton of research, I have a Deco and a Volante, those are the only 2 Strymons I own, and they are 2 of my best pedals!
so glad i found this video straight to the point great info great great great❤
I learned more from this vid than any of the other DAW tutorials ever.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to type such nice comments David.
Keep Spreading The Love ❤
Brilliant. I‘m setting up my Revox now again. The gated drums story actually started with a Peter Gabriel solo album.
Thank you so much amp2. that is awesome to hear, Ahhh so it was a solo album I appreciate the info thats cool.
Wow, i got some awesome insights into how those FX actually work. Thank's a lot.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write such a kind comment Martin. I am so glad you enjoyed the video and found the info to be interesting. Thanks again and you are welcome.
Thanks man really is good seeing people keeping such tricks alive
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave such a nice comment. I appreciate it Luke, I feel like people need to know where this stuff came from. You can buy a flanger box but why is it even called flanging. :)
this was a total joy to watch, really appreciate the history lessons and all the information given. thanks for the abundantly clear effort that was put into this one. awesome work :)
Thank you so very much for watching and taking the time to type out such a kind and thoughtful comment Arron. I am so glad you enjoyed the video. Yes it was quite an undertaking to edit this one but I am so pleased with the amount of people that enjoyed it and found the info useful or helpful. Thanks again truly.
You are fantastic!
Thank you so much Jack. I am so glad you enjoyed the video. This one took a while to get traction but all of the sudden one day the YT robot started putting it out and nice people like you just keep making my day. Thanks again.
@@heavymetalATC haha that’s so cool and you deserve it!
RUclips algorithm! Why did you make search for this? Should be in everyone's reccomended.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave this awesome comment Jakavosolo. Gave me a good chuckle. Thanks again bro very kind.
This is brilliant!
didn't know gated reverb was a happy accident. Great video my friend! Never considered using one of those old single track tape recorders, brilliant .
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave such a kind comment Dean. I figured this video may save a few old tape machines from living the closet or the attic.
This was informative and helpful. Many tutorial videos on a topic fail to give context to the subject, this does that and demonstrates the effects really well. Thank you, stay based.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave such kind words Poiple. I try to keep my videos on a level that will interest a pro but still be easy to understand for anyone. I see no reason to leave out 1/2 the info and use big words to try to look cool or smart. F-that I want to educate and inspire people on all skill levels especially those who are just starting out and looking for information. They are the ones who will invent the next new thing. Thank you again and you are very welcome.
Awesome video. The full mix sounded more organic. Thanks.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment Kristian.. you are the second comment I have replied to on this video with that first name today and that is my name as well. Clemintine is a "stage name" I'm glad you liked the video and I hope you found the information useful in some way. Thanks again... Tape is not a dead audio medium after all. LOL
I would have paid for this. Well done
Thank you so much Silas. I really appreciate it. Im sure that your view and comment gained me about 3-5 cents so as far as I am concerned you did and thank you for your time. :)
Freaking brilliant presentation.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave the kinds words Erick. This one was a doozy to plan out and edit but it is finally starting to gain some traction in views and nice comments left by people like yourself. I hope you found this information useful in some way. Thanks again.
The only video you need.
Thank you so much Robbert. That is an Awesome comment! This kinda kindness and interest just keeps me going. I am so glad you found the info useful and I hope it helps you in all your future projects. This video was slow to take off but out of nowhere it just started being seen and you guys have made my day over and over.
Fantastic video, the end result is top notch old chap.

Thank you SO much for watching and taking the time to like and write such kind words MrMetalClay. I am so glad you enjoyed it. I spent some real time on this one as I totally nerd out on this kind of stuff and it looks like its finally starting to get some decent views. Thanks again I hope you were inspired to try some things or now know where all those effects originated.
@@heavymetalATC I was looking to make a DIY tape delay, and ran into your video. Glad I did, bunch of cool stuff, history and entertainment. Well presented!
I am going to put this in my notes as I have been planning to build one for a while and if/when I do the video of the build and demo I will give you a shout-out.
@@heavymetalATC yeah I'm going to try some of these, especially the flange. There's a guy called Joey Pizza Slice that records multitrack in the weirdest way you could imagine, if you haven't seen the video go check it out
@@MrMetalclay Thanks for the info. I will check that out for sure. I love this kinda stuff.
Dude, this whole vid is five-star gold. Great work!!!
Thank you so much 400Billions. I appreciate you taking the time to leave such a kind comment.
That's very cool.
I did something very similar with a mate's drum track and an old reel to reel recorder.
And we'd end up with these recordings of dubious quality (destructive in a sense because we couldn't go back)
Now with digital DAWs and even hardware multi-tracks (i have a ZOOM r16) I find myself spoilt for choice, but only use about 4-6 tracks - mostly I just record a 'live' stereo jam.
I am blown away. Awesome, & hilarious at the same time.... Don't get any better than that! Kudos.
Thank you so much for your time and kind words Gregory.
This channel is a goldmine, THANK YOU
Thanks R+ I should be making some new videos soon.
Great content! Would have loved to have a full song at the end using all the effects, but I'm still satisfied with the drums and guitar.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment Jeffery. I really should have done a full song but this video took SOOO long to record and edit. I was pretty burned out by the end of the whole deal. I am so happy to see it is finally getting some decent views and nice meaningful comments from people such as yourself. It started off with a bang and then just creeped along. I do hope you found this information useful in some way. Thanks again.
Great video man! Those cassette recorders will disappear from flea markets all other the world!
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment MP. I'm sure a couple of them got snatched up due to this video. LOL Maybe more came out of boxes in closets and attics. Thanks again.
This is the best video I've seen this week!!!!!!

Awesome I got a tape recorder on the way!
holy shit i just learned so much and i definitely wasnt expecting to
many thanks to you king

Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave such kind words. I am so glad you liked it and found the info to be of value. That is awesome!. Thanks again.
Peace!
Hahaha thanks bro. i hope you figured out some way to get it all to jive in a useful way.
So glad I accidentally landed into this vid.Probably gonna watch it alot since I already have cassette tapes and shoebox recorder on the way.
Awesome bro, I hope you were able to use these techniques to makes some killer music or at the least have a bit of fun.
the dictaphone by sony with half speed switch use switch as a clutch and superglue a zippo flint plastic wheel on the pitch knob you can change people talking make them sound sarcastic when serious or mix like a record player cheers for video great explanations
Thank you for watching and taking the time to write a comment Paul. I have been wanting to put a speed control on one of these for a long while but I can't find one at a thrift store that works well and that I also have the heart to hack up... I wanted to put cv control to one and a keyboard and use it like a mono chamberlain or melotron. I love watching the guys that scratch tape decks like records.. that is a trip.
Damn I love this video! My old crappy, fluttery Sony Casette-Corder TCM-459V just made it down from the attic and was put to "good" use. Thank YOOOOOU :-D
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write such a nice comment Kristian... That's my name too. Clemintine is just a "stage name" I'm so glad you were inspired to try some experiments after watching. Flutter is a great thing when blended into a track so It should be perfect for that. Thanks again.
