I could tell something wasn't right with the nut once I tuned it. the B and E strings sounded muted and plinky. So there's that. I should not have a nut problem on a 1000 dollar guitar from PRS. I have and play two Schecter guitars and they both came with no set up problems. Trying to set the height to be more playable only caused more muted and or plinky notes. Plinky as in they are not ringing out the way they should. Took it to a friend and he has the tools to check the neck. And found from the ninth fret up to have unlevel frets. Even without the problems I found the neck to be uncomfortable for me. And the bridge very limiting. A rough pattern I've seen is that 10 tops tend to be in the $3k range, artisan's are $5k, and the reserve are in the $10k+ price range.
I bought this same guitar several months back and I absolutely love it. The guitar blew me away for an overseas guitar at that price point. My only issue was a scratchy tone pot that just needed to be cleaned like your selector switch. The fit and finish is immaculate. The only changes I want to make are the PRS locking tuners and maybe replacing the pick ups with the American made 85/15’s that come in the core model.

I just got a PRS S2 McCarty thinline and have the same neck issue. Still diagnosing the issue. Haven’t tried the deoxit yet. Not sure why... I’ll give it a go - thanks!
That should pretty much always be your very first step diagnosing an issue like that. You saw how simple it was, and it's extremely common. Just good practice to clean those guys up every once in a while anyway.
It's a fantastic guitar for the price. As much as I dig the "Eriza Verde," I think the "Vintage Sunburst" is really classy and looks SO nice on this PRS. Hopefully, everyone gets the green, and I'll be the only one with a sunburst model.
I bought one in Eriza Verde a week ago: amazing guitar, so many sounds, the single coils sound very nice (not like real ones but close) miles better than the split in the 85/15s. I tried it back to back with a old 2021 Custom 24 and there was no competition, the 24-08 sounds way better. Then it’s beautifully made, the neck is gorgeous and plays very well out of the box. The only “issue” is that they come with 9-42 instead of 10-46 like core and S2 guitars. Easily fixable with a proper setup and then you’ve got a killer axe!!
I just bought a SE Hallow II, a day later they come out with this finish for the SE Custom 24-08. I might have to sell something. This guitar looks incredible!
Like my 35th anniversary se custom 24 with same carve, pickups, and switching. The TCI S pickups are pretty great with lots of usable tones! Also really like the new SE body carve. Looks great and more comfortable than the deep carve on the core. The core looks better but the SE is more comfortable to play. Keep up the great work Phil!
Thank you so much for this video...!!! I just ordered one of these new PRS SE Custom 24/08 at THOMANN in germany. It will be my first PRS guitar, I'm really excited... Will be available/delivered in 2 - 3 weeks!
That top looks fantastic. Mine is close to this top but I looked at about 100 before finally finding the one I bought. Most that I've seen on Reverb have a very different top and bottom. Many had very distinguishable stripes on bottom but almost no stripes on top.
8:50 I have the same issue but it's the bridge pickup. I thought it was the split coil switcher or the pickup wiring or something! I just bought a set of JB/JZ to replace the TCI S pickup...
Dear God, I think I have found my perfect guitar. Just getting back into guitar after 10-15 years and was contemplating a Warmoth build due to not being able to find the exact specs and style I wanted with other brands. I have been looking for this EXACT color in an affordable guitar. I have a Wolfgang Standard on the way, but I will be selling some gear to afford this in the next few months. Wow.
I believe the guitar they sent you and other reviewers are the best examples they could get, MOST ARE NOWHERE AS NICE!!!! ,,,,,, my local music shop recently received 5 of these into stock and I was the first person to have the first pick of them,,,, each varied greatly, none were nowhere as nice as yours and 1 in particular had a terrible top .... I would love to post the pictures of them here so people could see them but I dont see anywhere I can do that.... Happy to forward them on..
It's interesting to note that PRS originally released this guitar as the PRS SE 35th Anniversary Custom 24 in 2020. I bought one at the beginning of 2020, specs are identical. Just the colors are different. I prefer my Black-Gold Burst. Great guitar though.
@UCPhzO_XZ6v0IH0ckSvsKO5A No, the 35th Anniversary had the same specs and top carve. Go watch the 35th ann video. I have the guitar, I know what I'm talking about. PRS as a company wouldn't change how a guitar is made in 2020. The 35th Anniversary and the 24-08 are the same minus the abalone inlays. Case closed.
I have never liked green guitars. However, once, my wife did order a guitar that was supposed to have a tobacco sunburst. The guitar that arrived was translucent green. My wife had unboxed the guitar when it arrived. She was getting ready to re-box the guitar and send it back because she knew I didn't like green guitars. I asked here to let me hold the guitar, tune it, and play it before sending it back. I have to admit, with the guitar in my hands and up close, the guitar is beautiful and never made the trip back to the seller. I'm plenty old enough to tell anyone never say never: Things always change. The PRS is pretty and seems to play well. I can't comment on the tone because I'm listening through computer audio. What I'm hearing in this clip sounds extremely damped and lacks dynamics until a 15:50 then things got a little better.
Wierdly all my PRS SE's including the 35th Anniversary (which is basically the pre cursor to this version of the 24-08) have had the same problem with the 3 way switch that you faced. I just assumed the switch had gone bad and didnt bother replacing it as I dont play professionally and could get all three positions to work with a little bit of angle while pressing the switch. Turns out the switch was ok! Thanks for the tip Phil!
Mine 35th Aniv SE 24 had the same issue with the blade switch after a week of playing. I found that many SE 24 players were facing this issue. A contact cleaner did the job, but it told me that PRS quality is a myth!
My 35th Ann Custom 24 had the exact same switch issue. Hitting it with deoxit seemed to fix it too. But its worth noting that this has been an issue for a year now.
I recently considered this guitar as I think the color is fantastic but for the money every single part of it is made in Indonesia/Far East . Pickups, tuners etc that’s what made me choose something different. But the color is superb. But I did buy at distance due to Covid and it’s worth trying one in a shop to assess it . I’m not taking chances with a fairly expensive purchase for me
You may want to consider like a 30th anniversary used, theyre made in Korea and well, they were going for $550-$600 but still think you could find one for around $700 in minty condition. The color choices are limited tho , Ive got the Santana Yellow with a floyd, oh yeah, im glad I own it. And you get the Double bird inlays on the twelve. I would imagine the 2021's will end up dropping in 6-8 months to $800 or less if you keep your eyes open, thats how i got mine, $550 shipped mint!
Nice video, thanks! I just picked one of these up. I love it! Well worth the price if you can find one. My local store got in 3. I followed them on Facebook and went in the next day to view. They already sold one, I picked up the 2 and compared them. I chose one and the fellow behind me got the other one! Sweetwater is out for another month or two.
I just don’t like the carve to a flat top on the SE or even the S2. That’s what keeps me from buying one. If it had a shallow carve then I wound with fine. The carve to a flat top bugs me. I hope to see one of these in person. Maybe I’ll change my mind.
Great review Phillip, I'm very disappointed with the tuning stability, I literally cannot gig this guitar, even if I don't touch the tremolo I have to tune in the middle of each song literally, strings stretched ad nauseum, any suggestions? Sounds great and I love the green, just pops, looks better than the PRS usa version there, but it's just not usable if it does not stay in tune. I think the PRS tremolo is very outdated and unstable. The fact those pins break in 2023, give me my 2 pin USA standard trem any day.
Got my 24-08 (Eriza Verde). I know it's popular, but I can't really say I'm a fan of the the color. I'm more of a solid color, natural or tobacco burst sort of guy. Generally, I find PRSs to be a little too ornate. Having said that, I am a PRS fanboy (count is at 7) and it's all based on tone and feel. And the 24-08 does not disappoint. Mine is a little heavy at 8lbs 3oz. but it feels and plays great, I like the tones I can get out of it. It's very versatile. I pick it up a lot. The jack came loose pretty quickly on mine (something I also noticed on my Hollowbody SE). Only wish it came with moon-dot inlays, a solid color and clear or chrome knobs.
Damn my prs s2 vela has had that problem with a short intermittently in the pickup switch. It comes and goes. Good to know that cleaner works! Thanks for the tip.
I have a PRS SE 35th Anniversary and it is basically the exact same guitar with different colors. Mine has the same exact neck, where the middle is quarter sawn.
I feel the same way sometimes. Bought a 2017 SE custom 24 when it came out. Every year there is a new exciting thing, problem is I love mine, so i guess someday ill just have 2! LOL
I 've got the first edition of the singelcut SE and it got a three piece body, and a three piece neck, and it plays beatifully. I have equiped it with locking Ratio tuners and a graph tech nut so i can divebomb the crap out of it and it stays in tune. (can't recommend the locking ratio tuners enough)
That's a nice SE for sure but that core model is a piece of art. I've been watching your videos for a couple of years now and just noticed I never hit the subscribed button, my bad. Keep up the good work I really enjoy the channel.
I know man. I think PRS makes the highest quality mid-range guitars in the world. I have an SE and I don't have any plans to move to a core guitar. It's perfect for what I do (occasionally on stage but mostly at home).
I purchased one, and the short story is: Get One. Covers a lot of ground in one instrument sonically, plays like an absolute dream.
Mine is on order. Currently stock is hard to get ahold of so I've got to wait 3 months. I think I've watched every video going

Ever see a Les Pa or a Gretsch?
Where do you want them, on the headstock?
Thanks Phil! The DeOxIt trick fixed the switches on 2 of my PRS’s.
I got the aqua color puals SE Saturday. Outstanding but im thing about changing the pickups, not as clear as i like
I just got a PRS S2 McCarty thinline and have the same neck issue.
That guitar has tones for days! Wow!
And why not pop in some locking tuners while you're making that switch!
@@narq5099 I did it eventually :)
I just bought a SE Hallow II, a day later they come out with this finish for the SE Custom 24-08. I might have to sell something. This guitar looks incredible!
I think the SE hallow II is the most stunning electric guitar I only wish I could afford it! Do you love it? Congrats
@@aaron22778 it is a great guitar! Wouldn’t change anything on it! I wished it came with n this green!
Those hallow II's are righteous guitars.
You made me order one! I hope you're happy with yourself
That Deoxit trick was an awesome tip.
Hi, wanted to ask, how are you liking the guitar? and how was the packaging and shipping from Thomann?
@@prodbyamrit Hi there! The packaging and shipping was fine, no problems. Yes, I like the guitar and will keep it...I'm happy with it! CHEERS.
I have an older se. Custom 24, all gold, all bound, made by schechter in Korea. Love. I think it was a guitar center special.
That top looks fantastic. Mine is close to this top but I looked at about 100 before finally finding the one I bought. Most that I've seen on Reverb have a very different top and bottom. Many had very distinguishable stripes on bottom but almost no stripes on top.
I just recently purchased the 35 anniversary Custom 24 SE in the blue burst ... Fantastic guitar
That SE is pretty! I also like they put a clear finish on the neck this time
I am happy they went to the natural headstock
I had the same issue with my neck pickup. It worked fine at first but after playing it for a while I started having the same issue with it.
Wow.
I really liked this format of review!
True.
I have the '35th' in the FBB finish. I love it! The 35th has Abalone birds, which looks great, but are hardly visible when you play.
@@kevinogorman7561 agreed,
I have never liked green guitars.
Really Great Demo. Thanks & much appreciated . . . . . All the best & stay well !!!
I'd never buy an SE. I saved and saved and saved and bought my custom 24. Never looked back. Guitar for life.
Really love the little switches for the coil split
Wierdly all my PRS SE's including the 35th Anniversary (which is basically the pre cursor to this version of the 24-08) have had the same problem with the 3 way switch that you faced.
I just assumed the switch had gone bad and didnt bother replacing it as I dont play professionally and could get all three positions to work with a little bit of angle while pressing the switch. Turns out the switch was ok! Thanks for the tip Phil!
Thanks for the review dude - just order one of these - can't wait!
Never understood why those PRS don't have individual volume pots for those two pickups. Mind-boggling.
I own a PRS ce .Two things I don't like upper fret access, needs a better cutaway also get rid of the plastic tip on the whammy.
Deoxit is fantastic. Highly recommended.
Yep! I had to replace the 3 way switch on my SE after about a year. For some reason they are poor quality switches.
@@TheTactical6string thanks sounds very nice
I had a Custom 24 for 22 years and didn't know it had push/pull coil tap until I sold it to a guy on Marketplace. He showed me after he bought it.
I'm in the minority, but the core looks much better to me.
It’s the lack of deep carve that makes these look weird too.
I agree...the SE models always look like a sticker in person. The “real” ones actually look like wood.
I just don’t like the carve to a flat top on the SE or even the S2. That’s what keeps me from buying one. If it had a shallow carve then I wound with fine. The carve to a flat top bugs me. I hope to see one of these in person. Maybe I’ll change my mind.
I nearly bought an eriza verde core 24 last year. Im glad I waited.
1.5mm action is high? I love low action and I thought 1.5 was low. I’m excited to play something with notably lower action than that
Love those split-bridge tones! I wanted one when I saw the PRS reveal video... now I'm drooling. Fortunately I have a bib...
Only wish it came with moon-dot inlays, a solid color and clear or chrome knobs.
i like it how maple veneers are pretty but what prs really does it for me is the carving wich just looks sexy wich no se can have since its a veneer
That is one beautiful guitar and sounds amazing.
Kinda get the feeling that Phil will be keeping this one. 😁
Looks beautiful, and sounds beautiful!
Damn my prs s2 vela has had that problem with a short intermittently in the pickup switch. It comes and goes. Good to know that cleaner works! Thanks for the tip.
I love it, just wish they offered a non zebra pup option, personal preference but i love the tones and color. Nice job as always Phil!
Save the zebras!
Love the "sweet switches" ,, wish I had those on my 2012 core !!
I have a PRS SE 35th Anniversary and it is basically the exact same guitar with different colors. Mine has the same exact neck, where the middle is quarter sawn.
Not a giant fan of that color but wow, this almost makes me regret buying my SE last year
Hahaha thinking the exact same thing got the prs se custom 24 essentially the same guitar but this is making me upset
I feel the same way sometimes. Bought a 2017 SE custom 24 when it came out. Every year there is a new exciting thing, problem is I love mine, so i guess someday ill just have 2! LOL
Core looks like it has a subtle burst edge (at least it does on camera) while the SE appears to have uniform coloring.
It has yellow in the core where as the se is solid green
I 've got the first edition of the singelcut SE and it got a three piece body, and a three piece neck, and it plays beatifully. I have equiped it with locking Ratio tuners and a graph tech nut so i can divebomb the crap out of it and it stays in tune. (can't recommend the locking ratio tuners enough)
My favorite PRS color.
That's a nice SE for sure but that core model is a piece of art. I've been watching your videos for a couple of years now and just noticed I never hit the subscribed button, my bad. Keep up the good work I really enjoy the channel.
24 -8 is their best value guitar 🎸👍
I know man. I think PRS makes the highest quality mid-range guitars in the world. I have an SE and I don't have any plans to move to a core guitar. It's perfect for what I do (occasionally on stage but mostly at home).
