I hated Reagan. It was as if every opportunity got snatched from under my feet. I worked at a Council on Aging, and lost my job due to funding cuts. The worst part, though, the most unconscionable thing, was that the budget cuts eliminated many seniors from Meals On Wheels. I remember a woman, who came to me in tears, because her sister, who lived up in the hills around there, would no longer get her meals. She was blind, couldn’t cook for herself, and her sister was also 65+, and wasn’t able to get out there every day. Many elderly people live alone, and , with those meals, we’d check up on them, to see if they were okay.

    1. Your joy in the Minnesnowta snowplows gives me life. Also, a hot dish is an entity in and of itself. It's not a casserole. The Midwest is going to win that battle.
    2. The Gov: "Does anyone else have any wildly upsetting disasters they want to talk about?"
The kids in my life gleefully answered this before Arizona did, with responses such as "Define upsetting," "Wildly is a little strong," and "It depends on how you look at it." We know them so well, and that says a lot for you, Ben!
    3. State aromas. If that catches on and becomes a thing, the possibilities are endless. I nominate the Aroma of Tacoma for Western Washington, and mountain air just before a good snowfall for Western Montana. Have a good week!

On a side note. The government was the one that screwed the pooch on the whole train derailment thing. One of the things changed in the whole strike talks was lowering the safety checking time for trains from 2 minutes to 45 seconds to satisfy investor and stockholder since they would lose a lot of money from the increased pay and somehow that whole part of the talks past without anyone realizing until now.

To be fair, New Mexico has gone a little overboard with the "Official State _________".
We've got the ones everyone has:
      State Bird: Roadrunner
      State Flower: Yucca
      State Soil: Penistaja Series
Some that are common, but not universal:
      State Tree: Ponderosa Pine
      State Mammal: Black Bear
      State Insect: Tarantula Hawk Wasp
      State Fossil: Coelophysis
State Fish: Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout
      State Gem: Turquoise
      State Grass: Blue Grama
And then there's the rare ones:
      State Cookie: Biscochito
      State Vegetables: Chile/Pinto Beans
      State Tie: Bolo Tie
      State Amphibian: Spadefoot Toad
State Reptile: New Mexico Whiptail Lizard
      State Butterfly: Sandia Hairstreak
      State Aircraft: Hot Air Balloon
      State Necklace: Squash Blossom
State Train: Cumbres and Toltec (no derailments!)
State Question: "Red or Green?" This is in reference to chile. The official answer is "Christmas," meaning both.
State Guitar: New Mexico Sunrise Guitar
State Poem: "A Nuevo Mexico" by Luis Tafoya
And finally, we have not 1, but 5 different State Songs:
State Song: "O Fair New Mexico" by Elizabeth Garrett (daughter of Sherriff Pat Garrett, who killed infamous outlaw Billy the Kid)
State Ballad: "Land of Enchantment" by Michael Martin Murphey
State Bilingual Song: "Mi Lindo Nuevo Mexico" by Pablo Mares
State Cowboy Song: "Under the New Mexico Skies" by Syd Masters
State Spanish Song: "Así Es Nuevo Méjico" by Amadeo Lucero.
