Thanks Mike for a great start on a kit that deserves a updated build series. I have the same kit that was put away forty two years ago, 30% built, bought at the Hamilton Airshow in Ontario Canada. The B-17G, 'Texas Raiders' was there that weekend. I later bought the decals to build it as, '909' Finished 2020 when I returned to the hobby, 2018. Built as a bare metal factory roll out. Still have the Sheppard Paine diorama pamphlet. Rivet wheeled the model did the mods similar to what you have done to the wings. Thinned the trailing edges and removed the exaggerated fabric covered surfaces to be closer to scale. Posed in flight with crew and painted clear discs to represent spinning props. I now use electric motors to spin props for most of the kits 1/32 and larger I do in flight.
Back in the mid 70s I built two of the monogram B17s I was about 12,13yo took them to Stanton Hobby shop,in Chicago, where they were put into their display counter, sold each one for 25dollars apiece.
I went to the U.S. Air Force Armament Museum outside Eglin AFB at the end of October. That was an amazing visit and there were so many airplanes, I was a kid in a candy store!
Morning I use super glue for my seam work because it is both a glue and a filler. I have used my gluing technique for 30 years and it has never failed me.
Wow!!! I just started watching and already have some ideas on what to do with my (E61) N3702G firebomber scratch build mod of this venerable kit. Thanks!!
Rivets in 1/48 scale are going to have heads that are about 0.0052 inches, so what's the point. Including rivets in this scale does nothing but increase the price of the model. Skin overlap would have seams that are about 0.0005 - 0.0006, a scribed line is fine. If you want to show skin overlap in 1/48 scale then do it with paint and masking.
Very informative and interesting video tutorial. Thanks Mike!!!
more to come!!
Out of all the interior wing details i think i liked the idea of the plastic strips to stop the wings flexing was my favourite. Simple but effective.
I reinforce the wings on every kit I build

Yep
its a nice museum and you can walk up to them.
Have you been to the air museum in Tucson, AZ?
Not yet, but definitely on my bucket list!
Mike did a wonderful job. It will be very helpfu.
Mike , thanks for sharing timely video next project in a couple weeks
get started!
Going back to rewarch the video on why you use super glue instead of extra thin. I have the Revell/Monogram boxing of this one in the stash
Super glue does not bond the plastic together. Stick with extra thin!

Outstanding video and presentation.

Morning
Check out my series on building the B-25.
