Mike, the weathering looks great
Thanks The inside came out good. I over did it on the outside!!
How do you get the masts together?
Mike when you run into where the paint peels in small areas,it is due to qc at a petro chemical plant. 32 to years of driving and picking up at these plants, when they switch over to make styrene plastic pellets, some polypropylene pallets get mixed in.this causes small areas of the styrene plastic come very smooth. Polypropylene plastics are use in molded injection for dishes, cups and plastic toys.these get mixed in by accident when they fill the boxes.
@@richardjordan5036 Thank you Now I know it was not bad paint!!
Another highly informative video, Mike. For all of my 1/32 or 1/24 aircraft builds that have monocoque construction, I add stressed skin effects by removing material from a lot on a Zero fighter to a minimum on a P-47. We have the luck of living 30 minute drive away from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum that owns and operates a C-47 in D-Day markings that fly along with many of their other aircraft, close or over our house. I can tell from the sound of the engines if it will be the Lancaster, B-25, Canso (PBY) or the C-47 when there is only one of them flying. The C-47/ DC-3 is still impressive and has earned its place in history.
@@SEMJW agreed!
I worked with DC-3s at an FBO. Love that aircraft.
Great build. Just got this model so looking forward to it. $8.50 my goodness I had to replay the video to make sure I was hearing that right!
@@jackdodson8736 I had it in my unbuilt stack for over 30 years!
Mike, great video!! Thank for sharing your techniques on weathering
Your studio looks awesome, a true hobby dream
@@foolduke2810 Thanks That's the old one. Check out my new videos to see my new one.
I am glad your videos are a how to do it guide. Your interpretation of the O.D. matches that of the Memphis Belle on display in Dayton. O.D. is subject to all kinds of interpretation...
Monogram kits were generally accurate and well detailed, but the fit of the parts presented many challenges....
@@AlanToon-fy4hg They all have fit issues. No matter what manufacturer,
I see that you have John Ficklen's F4F print...
@@AlanToon-fy4hg Yep He gave me several of them way back in 2002.
@@scalemodeling You know he flew west a year or so ago. Sad to see him go. He was an outstanding modeler and artist.
@@AlanToon-fy4hg Yep Unfortunately we had a falling out years ago.
Thanks Mike. I always enjoy your videos. For a novice like me, I would really love to see a video of yours on how you actually airbrush your models at the booth. I have looked in your playlists but I could not see any airbrushing video tutorial. Many thanks
Excellent work!👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@littlehistory2392 Thanks It was a fun build.
Mike, thank you for describing all the modifications needed to be done on this kit
Great upgrade video, Mike! The Resin2Detail parts are beautiful.
@@kenhanson1819 Yes they are I am using them on my B-24 build too
Mike, just picked up this kit( just a newer version #5607), will mostly likely have the same problem you faced, will be starting it soon, after the monogram B-17! Thanks for sharing! Possibly looking at new decals @ the IMPS national
@@gene5572 Try eBay too.
Nice walkthrough, Mike 💥👍💥
@@DutchDaveModels Thanks
I picked up the AC-47 at an antique store. I am sure it will have the same fit and build issues. Thanks for your video.👍👏
I just bought one a mere four years after seeing your video in July 2024. Thanks Mike!
I have been to this museum many times and it is a worthwhile destination. Almost all the aircraft are in flying condition and flown regularly.
@@davew3130 and they build them too!!
Great job so far.
this is a very very cool weathering video!!! i would love to see more HO scale building/ weathering stuff. good job sir! thanks for sharing with us
Thanks More to come
AWESOME JOB.
Thanks It was a challenging build!!
GREAT naration, great airbrushing. However, for a "new" in service combat aircraft you might have wanted to cut off some of the mission markings. JUST saying, love the job you did.
Here is a question: How much weight is needed up front to get this model to sit right? The instructions show where the weight should go, but they don't say how much weight is required.
Good question I have not built this one yet, but I am working on the Revell/Monogram kit. I should know in a month or so.
@@scalemodeling -Okay, good. If you remember, let me know what you find out about it. And I'll check back too.
Great video, thank you for taking the time
Mike have you tried EZ-Line for your rigging?? It's outstanding material to work with.
nice work! i was hoping to see the way you glued the wings, do any of your vids show you working ?
Morning Check out my series on building the B-25. I demonstrate my gluing techniques.
Excellent benchwork! 👍
Absolutely beautiful my friend
Thanks It was a fun build 3D printed parts really enhanced the appearance of the model.
@@scalemodeling yes they do.when i got my two 350 Frisco models,I bought the 5" replacement guns from Yankee models.that has been some time ago, like when the Friscos came out.since then these 3ds printer's are awesome.have yet to build either one yet but you can bet that those Yankee guns will be gone for some of those 3ds one
Thanks for sharing!
Very nice video. I am printing the Space Yamato Battleship. I got a model that is huge. the hull is a bit over 1M long. Since its based off of the WWII Yamato, this painting is pretty similar to what I want to do.
I used it on small parts and it seemed to work well. I always use medium set super glue for seam work.
Another reviewer said Tamiya's extra-thin cement does not like the ICM plastic... In the comments to part 4 in his B-26 build, RW Hobbies mentions using MEK or Plastic Magic glue.
I had and builded the Thomas Jeferson at my 12 years
I build it (because no money without the superdetail kit) two months ago and I loved it. But I used the wooden deck and painted the dinghys in orange, because I like that detail from the old revell missouri model. Btw I was very suprised, that the missouri in 1:350 with the WWII design is not availabel as a new model, so I had to get this old one XD
Glad I found this video( actually, it found me, lol). This has been a bit of a pet peeve for me for years, as a modeler and an aircraft technician. The huge, raised or engraved, panel lines and rivets on models (don't even get me started on the raised vs flush rivets! ) are usually so far out of scale to be ridiculous. As you were saying, the gaps work out to maybe .001" or less, in 48th scale., and that would be practically invisible on 1/72nd unless you have your nose touching the model. The DC-3 (C-47?) is a great example showing that only the dirt is delineating the panels, otherwise they'd be invisible if the aircraft was clean and polished.
Mike I think if a person does not use the revell landing gear.the other would have to cast the landing gear in metal so that the locations pins can be made thicker.alsothere is a modeler on you tube putting this kit together will have to see how he fixes these issues.his channel is rw hobbies in case your interested and see how he might fix this issue
Check out my tutorials on building the Monogram/Revell kit and the AMT kit.
The best dry fit build review ever !!! Thank you Mike for your effort to give us this amazing and useful video!
I test fit every kit that I build. I have been test fitting kits for over 30 years and it is very helpful in building, detailing and devising assembly sequences.
In lieu of trying to form fit styrene strips inside the wing to mitigate the flexing there, it might be easier (and stronger) to use some millable epoxy putty. Just a thought, and likely how I’ll do it. Thanks for the tape-up review on this kit! I got mine last week and can’t wait to get started on it.
good idea
Terrific video! Great insight into the assembly of this kit and love the way you pre-build almost the entire kit for fit and alignment. Nice job! I have a question for you. I know for tricycle standing kit, weights are needed for proper stance. Where in the forward nose section did you place the weights. Does the instructions tell you where they go? Thank you and enjoyed the tips and insights.
Always look forward to a new video, Mike. Your presentation methods for the tutorials are among, if not the best for guidance on kits that modellers may wish to build to achieve great results.
thanks
Great video! I just bought a model kit of a B-26. It is 1/96 scale. I will get the ICM 1/48 scale next.
Beautiful airplane.....
yes it is They did a great restoration job
another good instalment. I think your build is looking great and you presentation style is very clear.may I ask have you painted the windows in black? if so you may want to try gunmetal, I find it gives a more realistic glazed look that is less harsh, but you may not agree.
Morning I used a fine tip drafting pen.
That's an awesome looking ship. I have the USS Texas I can't wait to get to.
Thanks it was a fun build
