    Well, it is like the "famous" saying: if alternative medicin worked it would just be called medicin.

    • @ct5625
      @ct5625 8 месяцев назад +3

      It is. Everything we currently view as medicine was once an entirely natural compound. All we basically do is cook. We take a bit of this and a bit of that from the natural world and combine it in the right quantities with the right baking and mixing and we have a treatment.
      "Alternative medicine" is basically a moronic over-simplification of the process, usually involving notions about things that have already been proven not to work. If they did work they would already be being used in treatment.

    • @benmaxwell115

      @@ct5625 I presume the point being made is that all medicine that is currently labelled as "alternative" has STILL not been proven to work, even to this day. Thus people should be relatively sceptical of it all, assuming the null hypothesis.

    The woman explained every property show and home renovation show absolutely perfectly: people complaining about something just because it looks a little dated, or it's the wrong color, or there's wallpaper, or some other insignificant detail, when in fact it's a perfectly livable space where everything works that doesn't need anything done to it. But instead, what they always do is squander vast amounts of money changing it to look exactly like every other home that's built these days, and "opening up" a place by breaking down some wall somewhere. I can't watch those shows because I go through every episode shouting at the TV that you don't have to do that, that it's a waste of money, and that you'll never get that money back when it's your turn to sell the place. The number of nice old kitchen cabinets which have the audacity to look like the solid wood they are I have seen swapped out for pressboard garbage that has a shiny layer of white melamine on it is just sickening.

    • @neilwilson5785

    • @boesvig2258
      @boesvig2258 8 месяцев назад +1

      It’s so diluted there’s not a single atom or molecule of the active ingredient left. It’s just water. But according to "homeopathic theory", water has a memory, and remembers what’s been in it (though apparently it forgets about all the fish poop).
      Not only that, but somehow all this dilution reverses the effect of something. Which is why homeopathic sleeping pills are made from caffeine. "Made from" used in its broadest sense here, as there’s no caffeine left in the sleeping pills - it’s just water.

    The bathroom sketch is a parody of the genre of daytime property shows around at the time. Also there was a trend of coloured bathroom suites which had had its day in the UK and avacado WAS a popular colour in the previous decade or so, so I guess a lot of those shows had very similar conversations about how they couldn’t live with an avocado toilet suite.

    No, he really didn't mind the bathroom colour, it was just ok.
    But then the wife went too far and said she did, which showed that she had no taste.
    If you're from a British influenced country (as mine is), showing you have no taste is one of the worst possible sins, if you are middle class (as those characters were) as it shows that you are closer to being poor/working class (ill educated and brutish), instead of upper class (well educated and refined).
    So he had to kill her, because it was more kind for her to be dead, than to live in the ignominy of having no taste.
    It's a snobbishness thing.
    At least that's the way that I've always understood that skit.
    In fairness, that skit had a surface level humor that required a familiarity with those home renonnovation shows, which you fully grasped.
    And then a second deeper cultural understanding to know that her shameful outburst displaying a complete lack of taste was the least acceptable thing.
    Don't sweat it guys, you got the general gist, just not the cultural nuiance that's all. :)

    Homeopathy is particularly absurd and the current king of England is a huge proponent of the stuff. It has two basic tenets: First, treat a symptom with something that causes the same problem. If you've got insomnia, drink coffee. If you've got a fever, take something that will raise your body temperature. Second, if you dilute the "medication" in the correct way, it becomes more powerful. So the homeopathic way to treat being hit by a car was to take a bit of car, dissolve it in water, dilute that, shake it, dilute it, shake it, etc. The more dilutions and shaking, the better. Typical homeopathic treatments are so dilute that it's unlikely that they still contain even a single molecule of the original substance involved. But somehow, the water has memory...

      Many original allopathic vaccinations work on the same basis. E.g polio vaccination. The oral version of this vaccine is made from weakened live polio virus. It is scientifically acknowledged that giving a weak version can stimulate the bodies immune system to create antibodies etc. so that if the body later encounters the full strength virus, the immune system already knows how to combat it.

      @@rescyn1190 Tell me, who is this "We" you speak of? From the Cambridge English Dictionary: Punching down is "to attack or criticize someone who is in a worse or less powerful position than you: If a comedian punches down, they make fun of people who are less powerful or privileged." According to you it is not a thing. Correct. It is an action. As for the rest of your nonsense, I believe that your grasp on reality is a little too slippery so I won't waste more words on you.
