What you saw was an example of firefighters choosing to let the EV fire complete, rather than deal with the paperwork in safe handling and disposal.

The prototypes I've seen of these batteries are literally bullet proof and power density and safety factors and performance will be exponentially better than today.. look at solar, computer chips or even your cell phone as an example.

Say you never worked on a car without saying you never worked on a car. For example; my first car the real smart engineer designed the car so you have to remove the axle to replace the alternator. My current car the real smart engineer put the battery under the back seat.

Had to pull drive axle, had to borrow a pickle fork to separate ball joint, then remove and replace alternator. What a pain. My sister owned an Iroc Camero. Had to pull exhaust manifold to replace the starter. On my motorcycle I have to remove the front fairing, and fuel tank just to get to the air filter.

Hydrogen is made from hydrocarbons right now because it's way too expensive to electrolytically separate water. The process of reducing hydrocarbons to hydrogen pollutes more than just distilling and burning gasoline/diesel from crude oil.

Someone should make electric trailer with possibility of replaceable batteries in the undercarriage. They can be charged when are in the loading yards. Electric motor axles can be installed for helping in propulsion and regenerative breaking and some times can be hauled with diesel tractors so that way you have hybrid combination vehicle.
They need to pass a law against electric vehicles catching fire.
