      @@bradfordjhart Gas car fires are very different from lithium battery fires. These battery fires don't need oxygen to burn and can't be put out by smothering with water or foam, but I'm sure you've already Googled the problems of lithium ion battery fires and you're just trolling.

    This shouldn’t be political. As a democrat I say the ev battery’s are dangerous and there needs to be regulations and ways to put out fires that don’t take 12 hours and pollute tha atmosphere.

      EV batteries are highly regulated. Not by the government, but by the engineers themselves. You can't even replace the EV battery without safely discharging the entire thing first and that can take hours. What you saw was an example of firefighters choosing to let the EV fire complete, rather than deal with the paperwork in safe handling and disposal.

      ​@terrancecloverfield6791 yeah, they let it burn because it can't be put out once the batteries go into thermal runaway. Have you seen the Model Y burning under water at a boat ramp? Even being submerged in water it continues to burn. Then you have all the toxic air pollution plus the toxic run off of contaminated water. EV's are just not ready to completely take over internal combustion.

      That was a battery pack for a solar farm, but it was the same or similar type battery. They can be dangerous.

    Also presents a terrorism risk. Especially if multiple EV trucks were intentionally set ablaze in a critical area where escape by other motorists could be difficult, such as tunnels or bridges. Batteries are still overly unsafe and firefighting procedures not up to the task. Leaving the fire to burn out is not a practical approach. There needs to be a better way.

    I think the electric mandate is a fantastic idea for California. It eliminates any possibility that my company will ever make me go back there. That’s a very good thing!

    Key point in all of this.. last sentence. The mandate is not until 2045. By then I'd bet batteries are solid state. The prototypes I've seen of these batteries are literally bullet proof and power density and safety factors and performance will be exponentially better than today.. look at solar, computer chips or even your cell phone as an example.

    The natural consequence of government central planning is that it doesn’t work. Not only that it doesn’t work, but it drives costs through the roof and causes delays that are very problematic for everyone who is in whatever industry the government is attempting to control. We need less government in the economy, so free peoplecan do what they do best, serve their fellow man

    I hope you guys dropped a correction for this story. The EV or Hydrogen thing doesn't take effect next year, it starts in 2035...11 years from now. And even when it starts in 2035 it is not a 100% ban.

    They DONT care. Self driving trucks buses are coming because the AI dosnt ask for a raise so stay off sidewalks and expect the trucks to be honking at each other at 3am in big rig yard. Electric buses are already in service in some cities and theyre expensive

      Say you never worked on a car without saying you never worked on a car.
      For example; my first car the real smart engineer designed the car so you have to remove the axle to replace the alternator. My current car the real smart engineer put the battery under the back seat.

      ​@@User-54631 I'm guessing it was an early model Honda Accord. Experienced the same thing. Had to pull drive axle, had to borrow a pickle fork to separate ball joint, then remove and replace alternator. What a pain.
      My sister owned an Iroc Camero. Had to pull exhaust manifold to replace the starter. On my motorcycle I have to remove the front fairing, and fuel tank just to get to the air filter.

      @@jogmas12 Most truckers know nothing about the trucks they drive. There are a few exceptions, very few. Most are minimum wage steering wheel holders, with zero knowledge of trucks.

      @@mr.shannon6137 my 2004 accord to change the starter you need to remove the air intake plenum on the 4 cylinder. The alternator is easy as is the steering pump. But the water pump and AC compressor are bit more challenging 😥

      Hydrogen is made from hydrocarbons right now because it's way too expensive to electrolytically separate water. The process of reducing hydrocarbons to hydrogen pollutes more than just distilling and burning gasoline/diesel from crude oil.

      @@CharlesVanNolandthink you got your info mixed up... Hydrogen has many forms: grey, blue, green, and red, etc. They all have varying ways of production. Some cleaner and some more challenging. If you are talking about producing grey hydrogen? Yes it is more polluting. The other green alternative is (green/pink) The caveat with anything is I suspect it's that companies are most likely going to be producing a varying types for cost.

      I like my Tesla though, and live in reality. It's a good car but know that mandates aren't the way to go on this. Nobody should be gleefully signing away on 6 year terms for a $50k that will depreciate by 50% in just a year+. On the other hand, the market for used EVs (assuming clean title) at $31k? Now that's a worth a look! Dont' be swayed by the tech creep and you'll find a 2021 Tesla Model Y is a good buy.

    Yah, there is no such thing as a diesel fire.They take down bridges. They never close the rode. The smoke isn’t toxic, let alone the exhaust contaminating the air. What a hit piece, give me a brake.

      Maybe you can look up a comparison - which fumes would you rather breath (neither is not an answer)?
      A better reply is how frequent or prone each is but even given the less likelihood of an EV fire the fumes are still quite toxic. IOW promoters of EVs should not just ignore or trivialize uncomfortable consequences.

    Someone should make electric trailer with possibility of replaceable batteries in the undercarriage. They can be charged when are in the loading yards. Electric motor axles can be installed for helping in propulsion and regenerative breaking and some times can be hauled with diesel tractors so that way you have hybrid combination vehicle.
