I am Sony fan boy and I own Xperia Z5 premium, based on my knowledgeXperia phone shouldnt able to catch up the speed of S7 or note 7 those kind of samsung flagship due to the processors and ram. But this XZ really impressed me, it able to catch up the speed although it has only 3 ram. so impressed! Cool to see Sony finally has some improvements

I guess the "Smart Cleaner" thing played a big role in XZ's multitasking performance... If I remember correctly, it select what apps to let it run in background or not based on usage frequency or something...
Also, Sony already knew what OIS effect in image quality. Let alone their high tier camera, even almost all their current compact camera has it, they called it Optical SteadyShot. But Sony stubbornly didn't use that technology in their smartphones and keep saying that it perform well without it... But really? Many reviewer proved otherwise...
Considering that the S7 has more RAM than the XZ, I think Sony's XZ did a pretty good job even if it had a handicap on this face-off.. Not to mention that Sony's phone will probably last in the long run since their build quality never lets the users down and is always one of the best. Thanks for this review mate.

Interesting test, but you seriously might consider doing this automated, your input difference is a important factor in the test and gives you some clear statistic to talk about. Testing the internet speed doesn't make any sense at all, especially not in a single test. Photo shouldn't be checked on the phone screen, but on the same PC screen, eliminate the unnecessary variables in your testing. Keep up the good work, but try to improve. Thanks for the video ;)

For better multi tasking performance you should disable the SMART CLEANER, cause it will kick off apps which you don't use constantly.
And for photos please shoot in 4:3 cause of the wider angle ☺️otherwise thank you for this video.

I liked a lot Samsung's design. i kinda got sick of it. I see it like a child phone, it looks like a toy. I definitely like the xz one better, it is modern and elegant.. more of a adult phone.

There is no issue with ram management with the XZ. He had smart cleaner enabled which KILLS background apps intentionally. Disabling smart cleaner will fix that issue and all the apps will stay open in RAM.
Sony's mobile business has gone through many changes this year. They have streamlined their organizational structure and product line. I think they tend to release premium devices with similar cpu during each year to make software development less costly and more optimized. And I think they decide their hardware spec choices based on whether it makes any tangible change for the costumer or not and that's why they are still on 3G of ram. And I think you were too harsh on ram management test since nobody opens 5 heavy games at the same time.
Sony's phone is superb, very very good. The problem is, they'd do so much better if the price was at least $150 to what they are charging for it. Not that they care what their mobile market makes. They're too busy with their PlayStation sales. But it is an all round excellent phone. I'm getting a OnePlus 3.

i am not sure if it is the hardware, i think it is the software, because other Xperia smartphones with 3 gb of ram performed excellent in multitasking.

screen resolution affects GPU and vga, performance speed is cpu and ram and software optimization, didn't you watch the video speed comparison note 7 between 720p and 2k, they were the same and even ironically the 2k was faster 😅, so screen resolution doesn't affect performance 😊.

i love Sonys craftsmanship on this phone. i just wish it had 4 gigs of ram, i.o and ran on stock android. then it'll be the best phone of 2016. Anyone disagree?

Not only did xperia xz come close to iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 plus in terms of day to day speed, but also, in case of all the apps opening other than games, it managed to open most of the apps faster than the iPhone. So, xz is the king of android devices after all. So, we can easily say that sony's software optimization is much much better than any other android manufacturers of today. Sony rocks.

But out of all the phones that came out this year I do think the XZ is the winner.Hopefully it's not too much trouble to utilize the fingerprint scanner since i live in the states
Ivan Zamora Hey man just wanted to tell you even though Sony doesn't use 4 gb, it means they don't need 4gb because they are processed much more efficient than Samsung. Samsung on other hand needs 4gb to process everything because it's not efficient. That's why with long use, you'll notice 99% of Samsung phones will decrease in performance much quicker. I can say that from experience too, had galaxy until this year, changed to Xperia Z3 and it hasn't slowed down a bit since day 1.

The multitasking works as it is intended.
The XZ has a new option which is active by default. This option empties cache frequently to keep the phone's speed up.
As more you use the phone it records the most frequently used apps and keeps them active while emptying cache for other apps that are not used as frequent.
For example if you have a travel planner app, youtube and what's app open after you have used the travel planner app it does not keep its cache for long and when other apps come up it empties Travel planner to keep the app that is used most.
as in Travel planner>RUclips>What's app if for example you happen to use What's app more than RUclips

Since the Xperia Z5 and X series, I think Sony is admiring Apple here, not throwing so much Ram and not making it octa core anymore, they focused on OPTIMIZATION, no heavy touchwiz like UI and stick to almost stock Android experience

When samsung was making cheap ass golf ball plastic phones with laggy software sony was doing what the person above me said. Premium materials, nice design, best camera, and water resistance with great software and features.

If theres any multitask problems, XZ offers cache managment in Smartcleaner extra options. Meaning you can actually choose apps and games youd like to stay permanently in cache. ;-) That is SMART.
But in other reviewers' videos sony xperia xz did a good job in multitasking, so did you again get a defective unit.

1:23 - 1:52 weirdest comparison ever. WHY do you press side button on S7 before actually unlocking it with the fingerprint? It's the SAME technic as on XZ, the only difference that the home button / scanner is on the front. You don't need to press side power button first!

RCoster47 yes as you said both of them just press and directly unlock, he just wanted to skip the press action by pressing the side power button of s7 and just touch the fingerprint scanner to test its real response.

+Ali Bashir it would be fair test only if XZ has dedicated power button too. The way he did it, XZ was unlocking instantly after even short press. He wasn't able to turn XZ screen on without unlocking it here (he could use double tap to wake up though, but he didn't). That's why I call it weird

Because Sony and Samsung are my favorite brands, and my favorite models are Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, XA, XA Ultra, X Performance and XZ, As for the Samsung brand, my favorite models are Samsung Galaxy Note7, Note5 , Note4, Note3, Galaxy S7, S6, S5 and S4, in fact, I listed above Sony and Samsung brand models CPU processor and GPU graphics processor performance is very powerful, regardless of any operation speed is very fast and Smooth, almost no delay, antutu benchmark scores are high, it is not just good-looking also represents the speed of performance brought about by the powerful。(Note7 will explode simply because the rush to lead to battery quality problems, note7 in addition to the battery no other problems)
Give the phones some slack let them upgrade everything first.
That heavy gaming multitasking nobody does it even on computers is pretty unrealistic. I would do that but with 20 or 30 apps instead of games to be more accurate. I think Sony tries to preserve battery life here, heck even has the Ultra Stamina which is fantastic.

Im totally surprised after reading some reviews over this video that Samsung S7 is compared with Sony xperia xz. I am Samsung user but one of my friend suggest me to go with Sony. I have been never with Sony. But, now I am considering the Sony

Very poor memory management from Sony, especially considering it's a lower resolution screen. Seems the Sony is overpriced then, for performance at least.

if sony has open the sony smart cleaner its the reason for this multitasking because it kills the apps.something like the white list in hauwei who kill apps who isnt in the list.our friend youtuber must turn off the cleaner next time.
Charge Final Impact I hope Sony fixes it, because here it is pretty poor. The S7 was fine at launch though (guess Samsung improved from last year). And I'd be more forgiving of the $399 One Plus 3 (even if it has more RAM) because it is a much cheaper phone. For me, RAM management is more important than opening apps a second quicker.

I have the XZ and even turning off Smart Cleaner doesn't fix the multitasking. Sony may be able to help with an update but they really should have used 4GB of RAM and it's inexcusable that they didn't. Most people will be getting this phone on a 2 year contract and the specs are soon to be outdated for a flagship.

when comparing fingerprint scanner on both devices, try to use the home button to wake the device in stead of the power button. that would be much more accurate and fair.

Sold my s7 edge to get the xz and I did not regret it one bit. To be honest having the s7 for 6 months I notice it lags often and software support is too slow.
dude u using exynos or snapdragon samsung? ram managament test isnt accurate, you can get samsung that has worse ram managament than sony, or beter... but u loose gpu... so actualy testing multitasking is inacurate and false

I just wanted to point out that you closed world of tanks on the S7E but not on the XZ so it wasn't really a fair multi tasking comparison I reckon. Thanks for the video though, much appreciated.
not sure how accurate these sorts or side by side phone comparisons truly are... all vids like these are made in an uncontrolled environment. which would yield an unreliable result. for example your finger tapping. there is no way anyone can accurately press an app icon exactly at the same time. virtually improbable. your dominant hand will always react faster. Unless you consciously try not to do that and focus in your less dominant hand to go first. still yielding an inaccurate result. here's a tip: use a timer while running these tests one phone at a time. the magic of video editing (which you're not doing) you should be able to synchronize the timing from when your finger hits the icon to when the timer should starts.
good video but not truly representing a good comparison. your comparisons nearing the end of the video were better as it shows sony reloading a few apps during your multitasking comparison.
this comment was not to criticize your video but was intended to help provide a better perspective and quality to your tests. mind you, your channel isn't the only one making these same mistakes.. keep making these videos your subs appreciate them.
I think the main purpose of these videos is to find noticeable difference, because that is what truly make difference for end user. Inaccuracy in 5-10 mb\s or 50-80 ms really doesn't make difference.
Have both of these I like Sony more. Wife rocking the Samsung now.
I must say I LOVE Sony phones. I have the Xperia z3v which is quite old and it is the best smartphone I have ever owned. still works like a champ. I've been eligible for an upgrade for a while but haven't cause I still prefer my phone over all the new ones. hopefully Verizon offers the xz soon and I can upgrade.
better than previous models but that's to be expected but still not at the level of the s7e all round. the thing that struck me the most is how similar they are in size despite the s7e housing a larger display. I guess it all depends on whether you value front facing speakers over compatability

please do XZ vs Z5 Premium. I think Z5 Premium is the best Sony phone, and I'd love to see how it holds up with the new XZ.
There is a blue loading bar in the browser which the reviewer doesnt even look at, which actually shows which phone is loading a site content faster and not which phone is first on the site.

its oversampled 8mp it uses 23mp and compressed it to 8mp with big pixel size for better details in low light

It's 2k dude, 1440p. AFAIK the only smartphone that has 4k display is the Xperia Z5 Premium.

Well now I know what I'm buying. I was considering buying either one of this too, but the Xperia seems like an obvious choice. Especially since I'll wait for the premium version. I'm not a fanboy of either company but just felt like getting a phone with 4K. IPhone is honestly crap. I consider those like kids toys or a phone for the people that don't know what the specs mean so they just let someone else tell them what's "good" and in style. Samsung disappointed me on other videos too. I don't base myself in one. Plus, they like to brag about their waterproof phone like if they come up with it. As far as I know, its been years since Sony has been doing it and a lot of other Japanese phones. Apparently, its common to shower with your phone there. To me it was more between the XZ or that other Chinese phone called Mi Mix or something. Sony's phones are durable and Samsung phones look more like burner phones or usable till the next one comes out. Sony is really rectangular but it gives it a more sophisticated look. The Samsung one reminds me of my old Cricket phone I had in High School because my parents couldn't afford anything above $100. Then again, this is just my opinion. Not trying to bash Samsung. Its just not my style. Not in school anymore, so I don't need to get bad stuff just to impress someone else. Seems like something those swag kids would buy. Either one people pick its still better than an IPhone. Haha! Why have a Mac when you can have a custom built laptop or desktop. I get that some video designers or editor would prefer it but total nobody's?

I actually have both of these phones . The s7 has the better screen and battery life, and its low light camera performance is superior. The fingerprint sensor is beter on the sony .

I've had all the galaxy's apart from the 6. I skipped the 6 and went straight to the 7E. IMO the design "looks' good but it's not hand friendly. easier to slip out and crack. I'm always putting my little finger underneath to hold steady but now it's a habit. I have found since they made the s4 -s7 they have made them weaker. Especially the camera! This is my 2nd cracked back on this S7E. the S5 I had cracked the screen once, and then one day it ran flat and didn't charge at all and the s4 got screen burn! now the Galaxy I and II had their cameras protected but I don't know how many times I dropped the 1st. It even slid on its face across my driveway and didn't put a mark on it!!! I'm fed up with this weaker, uncomfortable version so I have decided to be a traitor and i am waiting for my Sony XZ. I swore by Samsung for years but they a have been very quick to disappoint. Features and software still great tho, never had a problem but when it comes to cosmetic? no chance! Sorry Samsung, that's just the way it is sometimes...
