    I've actually been using 2 Troupers and a single 18"sub at weddings for 2 years and love them! I've got some other, larger powered speakers for bigger outdoor events, but for indoor receptions, those troupers (and the sub) get the job done.

      Instead of "Hi everyone's just say Hi everyone, or Hi Everybody, anyway just be careful, don't overload them, I have repaired many where the tweeters have blown, Alto call them compression drivers but they are an imitation and cheap as chips, even the woofer is unbranded cheap pressed steel chassis, always remember you get what you pay for, they don't install quality drivers believe me, no good for front of stage, only good for monitoring from your 'Booth' control on your mixer (if you have one).
      If you're in Italy buy B&C or Beyma woofers when yours blows these will sound twice as loud and will last, but you will have to pay a lot more, when you think about it, the worse thing that can happen is when it breaks down during the crucial stage when everybody is on the dance floor. Never buy cheap ... you will buy twice or even three times. How they can call these speakers 'Alto Professional' beats me. All I can say is GOOD LUCK.

    Actually, volume, wattage, and bass are three separate and distinct things. Volume and wattage can be related, but don’t necessarily have to follow each other. You can have low wattage systems that are extremely efficient that are louder than higher wattage inefficient systems. That’s why wattage is more or less irrelevant. What people should be looking at to figure out how loud a particularly speaker is, are continuous output levels, and peak output levels.

    I will say that, I do not like talking about the watts that a speaker has. In general it is a fictional number made up by the manufacturer when it comes to peak power. Even the RMS or the Continuous Rating is often exaggerated these days. Real number to look at is the DB or max sound level. The trouper at 200 watts is probably accurate. The TS308 at 2000 watts is a lie, and 1000 continuous is for sure exaggerated. I have Alto speakers and love them but the power ratings on the newer TS series are exaggerated by a lot. They still sound awesome though!

  • @robertw1871
    @robertw1871 2 года назад

    “Something is a little bizarre on how they come up with there wattage” yeah just a little lol… I think take any company these days and divide by 10… so 2000 is 200… 1200 is 120… 2000 watts is what it’s rated at into a dead shot for 2 milliseconds as it bursts into flames…

  • @okay1904
    @okay1904 5 лет назад +3

    Excellent demo. Clearly the TS308 is missing something in the midrange and upper bass. Purely out of the box, in comparison the Trouper has a more balanced sound...than the TS308....
    For basic end users, without advanced skills and tools to properly equalise a PA, this is where more expensive gear like the QSC's and Bose and JBL's and Yamaha DXR, provide an advantage, a more balanced sound - straight out of the box. IMHO Alto's drivers - out of the box are cheaper sounding -sadly truth be told. For basic DJ'ing the audience may not be able to tell the difference after a few drinks.
    I think though, if one has the money, its good to pay once and get something that will provide reliable quality service. The ALTO's are durable, if cared for, but I think if you are critical, JBL SRX 800 series is a good place to start. Expensive yes - but over time, I have come to appreciate the difference.......Designing good quality drivers with even frequency response, is not cheap, and the smaller companies like ALTO do not have the same level of experience and research facilities, while JBL who makes their own drivers is able to spread this cost of research across a wider range of products.
    On the power front the recent ALTO's are doing great - lots of power, excellent cases, but the question is - is the reduced price worth the difference in sound quality - only you can tell. I own an ALTO 3 speaker. It's ok but If I had more money to spend I would get a JBL SRX, or QSC....depends on how picky you are about your sound.

    • @johgus96jg
      @johgus96jg 5 лет назад

      I would also be looking at companies like RCF, FBT and dB technologies. Very popular here in Europe, RCF also make their own drivers. I own a pair of 10" RCF speakers and the sound quality seriously blows my mind.
      To be fair he does say these are for small venues, acustic guitar, pubs, studios... not big outdoor events, which is what we are talking about

    • @goldsburg
      @goldsburg 4 года назад

      Okay1 - Based on the sound and what he was doing switching the sub in and out on the fly, I suspect that the 308 had no crossover to the sub and either the "contour" engaged or no proper eq'ing. Out of the box, the 308 has a huge ~70hz, low Q boost from it's DSP without the contour engaged! From cal mic measurements, the response is already the traditional eq "smiley face". This why the mids sound "scooped". EQ that bass boost mostly out, and it sounds much more balanced...

    • @okay1904
      @okay1904 4 года назад

      @@goldsburg I tend to agree. I was able to use some EQ, not the typical parametric or graphic EQ, FIR from convolution impulses, running in a DAW on a computer, using a measurement microphone, and automatic (with manual final adjustments) to make significant improvements to an ALTO 310, in a home studio environment. balancing the EQ from 50hz to 18K, pretty flat. Albeit it was not significantly deviating from flat, when measured.
      However, not sure if the majority of the typical end users of these kinds of boxes would have the knowledge or time, or gear, to carry out such finessing of a speaker.
      So ultimately it will come down to budget. Budget derived from :
      a) In a commercial setting, what is the customer willing to pay, in a pure rental scenario. What gear will I stock that customers want to pay for? I think the warranty on the Yamaha DXR, JBL SRX, and the QSC's as well as the more rounded sound quality in this price bracket, and reliability of these kinds of boxes (i.e lots of protection from all manner of extremes built in) may make them a better choice. The ALTO's have one major flaw, they rather than use a separate input for line level, and another for mic level, combine this into the same input, and use the same gain control, so in a rental scenario, it is so easy to plug in a line level input, and turn the gain way above what is ideal for line level, into the higher gains needed by a connected dynamic microphone, and cause damage and/or distortion.. Here its not that the speaker is bad, just used badly. And I can imagine lots of unsatisfied customers who inadvertently destroyed the speaker or could not get a good sound out of it, not understanding that the ALTO gain dial operates in a bit of a different manner. For this reason, in this scenario, as much as I invested in an ALTO, I would not suggest it for most use cases of this kind.
      b) In a non commercial setting, which includes a band investing in their own PA gear - i.e the customers are not paying for the gear used as a separate item, but as part of the band's total service, how much do we have to spend and how much is our sound quality worth to us. There are no right or wrong answers. Pick one.
      I think in most cases, they would prefer something that just works, plug and play. is guaranteed to be reliable and sound good, straight out of the box, particularly in a portable setup.
      A while back, I enjoyed performing miracles with low cost gear, but over time I realise, this meant the superior performance would need me to be present to achieve it, cos the skills to squeeze honey from dirt, are not always teachable in a short amount of time, so more than ever before, I've changed tack, and appreciate that the higher cost gear in many cases is justified, where people are critical about their sound, and less handholding. Life's too short, to be finagling some design flaws in an ALTO. WIth Covid-2, our main lesson, just spend the money when you have it, save for the rainy day also - do both. And buy yourself something good. That puts a smile on your face every time. For me in this scenario, that would be a JBL SRX... or the recent YAMAHA DXR v 2 if I wanted to save a bit of money. If I was really skint(broke) - the MACKIE SRM550 or SRM 650 will do just as good a job as any. and if I was not bothered about looks the MACKIE SRM 450 Mk 3's are almost as cheap as the ALTO (about 30 dollars more per speaker) equivalent, and these SRM 450's which started the whole trent towards powerful portable speakers- well over a decade ago, will blast all day and night, very loud and clear. So why take the risk and buy ALTO, if there is better out there. Thankfully the ALTO has done a good job for us, by bringing down the price of competition like the MACKIE SRM 550 and 650, which were once more expensive.

    • @frankfarago2825

      @@johgus96jg I tried some RCF studio monitor, they claimed FIR, but they just sounded really, really off. Tried 2 pairs, 8.inch and smaller. My hearing is not as good as it was 50 years ago.... so for me, spending a lot more on name-brand gear might not worth it.

      don't be put off by any comments you may hear. Make no mistake these are awesome speakers. I have 2 x ts 310s an. d 2 x ts 212s subs and they sound fantastic. You will always get people who will put them down and i guarantee 90% of them would not know which was which if you blindfolded them including me. Are they on par with the qsc k series and similar, well when you take into account the price then yes they are. Do they sound as good, well to the trained ear probably not, but i cant remember the last time i did a disco and heard people discussing my mids, highs and lows, because nobody cares as long as they sound good and they do.

    I guess I’m the only one, but I think the ts308 sound better. I’m surprised, but I definitely like the sound profile better vs trouper
