Or The EON612 • Review of 1000 watt JB...
More than just another great JBL sound system, the new EON600 series is a true step forward in technology developed specifically to deliver the best sound possible regardless of its application. Completely rethinking how truly good an affordable self-contained, portable PA system can be, JBL engineers purposely designed and built the EON600 from the ground up featuring JBL’s advanced waveguide technology, JBL designed and manufactured transducers, and convenient, wireless remote control of its onboard DSP EQ parameters via Bluetooth. This total redesign of the EON platform leverages the latest technologies in cabinet materials, acoustic science, transducer design and user-friendliness that delivers the extraordinary quality of a high-end studio monitor in a fully professional, highly flexible, easy to use, portable system for today’s working musicians and sound providers.
The new Alto Professional Truesonic TS3 Series does everything you demand in a no-compromise family of professional loudspeakers. These speakers solve every performance and installation challenge you have. They are high-performance in every sense: Their new transducers and amplifiers enable them to play extremely loud and clear, without compromise or restriction. And they are “high-performance” from a concept and manufacturing standpoint-we made sure that every aspect of their design outperformed what it had to do. The end result are loudspeakers that achieve a level of excellence and refinement that defies expectations. Defies your expectations.
There are four models in the new TS3 range: The TS308, TS310, TS312 and TS315, with 8-10-12- and 15-inch woofers respectively. The range shares a new 2000-watt peak (1000-watt continuous) amplifier.
These models boast all-new low-frequency drivers, designed to play louder and handle more power than their already-impressive predecessors, the wildly-successful TS2 Series. They also have a new horn-loaded high-frequency driver. This impressive transducer has a brand-new heat sink design that provides exceptional heat dissipation for impressive power-handling, even at all-night-long concert levels. Because these new drivers can safely handle the additional power, the TS3’s take full advantage of the increased wattage and will play at higher SPLs with lower distortion.
    VS.
We’ve even made the TS3’s easier to use, with an updated control panel and clearer control indications and detents that make for a faster, more precise setup. 2000 watts of bi-amplified power, newly-designed drivers and easier, more satisfying controls and setup-the new TS3 range doesn’t merely meet your requirements. It makes you re-think what’s possible. Amazon links may be paid links

IMO JBL sounds "BETTER", like it sounds more like the original sound source. It has a fuller, flatter sound. That is good. The Alto sounds hyped - deeper lows, and higher highs, with a weird midrange where certain frequency ranges are missing, and some present. The highs on the Alto kind of hurt a little. Like the highs are present, making the Alto sound clear and crisp, BUT the highs are too present they are fatiguing, all that crispness hurts the ears, immediately and adds up over time. Not as bad as some DJ's I've heard, who just ice pick the dance floor... I don't know how people stand it...
    BUT
The ALTO is definitely LOUDER. You can fill more space with the Alto.
So, it comes down to, do you want accurate sound, that sounds good, or do you want loud sound that is slightly painful?
For our band, for our practice space, and potentially for home spun gigs, we went with the Alto. We use a single Alto right now, we run vocals (with fx) through the Alto, and any other odd sound source, like a sampler, synth, computer. We play with live drums, 500 watt bass amp, 120 watt tube guitar head, and a 55 watt solid state guitar amp. The Alto is PLENTY LOUD enough to keep up with drums and all those amps in the practice space. We run a cheap behringer mixer before the Alto, where two vocals are mixed, and those occasional other sources. We do a bit of eq in the mixer, and everything sounds good, but everything is turned down in the mixer to keep the PA low, that is how loud the Alto is.
We were looking at the JBL EON610 vs the ALTO TS312 for the same price. We didn't try the EON610 in our practice space, I'm not sure if it would be loud enough, though I think it may have been. We use some 610's at church, and they are turned down pretty good, well, everything going into the mixer is trimmed (turned) down pretty good. Maybe we should have gone with the 610's, so the vocals - a wide spectrum sound source, a lot of lows (male singer) through highs (female singer) and it might help the clarity to have a flatter midrange that is more balanced against the highs and lows, it'd sound more natural and clear.
BUT, we couldn't use the JBL EON610's to do home spun gigs, I'm sure of that, they're just too quiet, unless they were really, really small gigs, and we played really quietly. But with Drums being played at full smashing gig volume, with a bass stack that can reorganize your internal organs, a 120 watt guitar head that actually drew the police when the nearest house was 1 mile away... The ALTO is the only chance to keep up with gig level sound sources, between the JBL EON 610 or 612 and the ALTO TS312.
And REMEMBER for a gig, you HAVE TO run everything through the PA. So, you can have bass amp, two guitar amps on stage for monitoring for the players, and just to put some sound in the room, but the bass amp, 2 guitar amps, 2 vocals, synths/samplers, AND DRUMS, ALL HAVE TO run through the PA. This is the ONLY WAY to get a balanced full sound. Don't think that you can get away with just the bass, guitar amps and drums in the room, and vocals through the PA, NO, it will NOT SOUND GOOD. Amp stacks are too directional, they shoot sound in too narrow of a beam, straight ahead. You NEED everything coming through the PA, it is the ONLY way to get a coherent, legitimate sound.
Ask me how I know... I do the sound for the band, and I thought I could get away with the amps not in the pa, just vocals... oh no. It sounded TERRIBLE. The guitar, you could only really hear it in the mix, if you were right in front of the 4x12 cab, but then you didn't hear the bass, like it was way way too low in the mix. And pretty much same for the bass, everything fell apart, it didn't even sound like a song/band when standing in the audience. You definitely have to put everything through the PA. So bring all instruments and vocals with DI's or mic's into a mixer, and then send a stereo out of the mixer into the PA. We haven't had the luxury of a sub for the PA to hold the low end down, i.e. the E string of the Bass, and the kick drum. BUT still, the 12's in the Altos get low enough to get the kick/bass bump.
So, while we chose the Alto TS312, it was (probably) the right choice for us, given what we are trying to do. I'm not a salesman, I'm just trying to give you a real practical review from a real user, who had a particular use case, or a particular set of objectives with our PA. I don't DJ, so I'm not speaking to that at all, maybe your choices would be different? I don't own a bar (thankfully, as I'd go broke because humans aren't allowed to come together in a group anymore... what future is this?), etc, etc, so, I don't know what your choices would be for those types of uses. But for a PA for a band (regardless of genre) primarily in the practice space (basement) and occasional home spun gigs, the Altos were the right choice for us.
    Hope this helps.

    I love the Altos 👌
As my first set of powered speakers
    Bought pairs of TS310, TS312 and TS315
    Plus TS312S subs.
I have 4 x JBL passive JRX i’ve used for a long time My sound desk on female vocal and acoustic rhythm guitar I had the EQ and mix perfect to my taste. On using the Alto for the first time I found myself having to cut drastically on the highs and on the low end of the guitar as first time out got low end feedback even with a sound hole plug.
The old JRX made of wood ply makes a huge difference when compared to plastic moulded unnatural sounding boom boxes with unwanted frequencies to the rear. I’ve had to learn how to overcome these challenges. I shared space with a DJ running SRX... I had the Alto 15 inch at 0dB max pumping live music versus the DJ taking sets. Using my DB meter at 1metre I was amazed with us both averaging 110dB with zero distortion on the Alto. Love my Alto’s. I do sound up to 5 piece bands for crowds up to 350 or so.
PS don’t expect to pass live bass guitars and kick drums through the Altos without using a rack mount cross over unit. The Altos make for awsome tops to my pair of dual 18 subs.
The Altos are great value for money..

Thank you very much for the review. I currently use two QSC K10.2s w/one Korg Kronos 2 88, a Korg N264, and a Shure Wireless System. Each keyboard, has its own hardshell case with wheels, so you can imagine tearing down or setting up. I need something smaller. Was considering buying two JBL Xtremes, and attaching them to the keyboard stand and running them in stereo through a Behringer Eurorack, but with too many issues with the Xtreme, the EON looks to have potential.

I own 10 of the Alto TS312 speakers. Love them! Use them mostly for karaoke gigs. For weddings and larger gigs I pair them up with JBL PRX618s-XLF or PRX918-XLF subs. Excellent combo, doesn't really need any EQ! Just got a dbx Driverack PA2 for crossover duty (the PRX618 has a high-pass crossover, the PRX818 does NOT - hence the need for the Driverack).

Hi! I'd like to ask for your opinion on whether we should get the Ts312 or eon 612? We will mostly use it as a monitor speaker for rental which our most frequent client is a church. They use digital drums so they would usually use the monitor speaker to output the audio of the drums for the drummer along with the mics used by the singers. Thanks!

Hi there, I’m looking to purchase a complete powered speaker sound system from ALTO. The target audience is for a ballroom of 500pax or 50 tables. It is for a full live band setup. I’m thinking of buying the following:
    1. Front of House - 2 units ALTO TS318s subs with 2 units ALTO TS315 tops
    2. Stage Monitors - 2 units ALTO T310 loudspeakers
Is this enough or do I need to add more. If it is not enough, then how many pax would the above setup be for? Thank you.

JBL shows their experience in audio with better balance on the highs over the Alto. The Alto overshoots a little with the highs but a good eq source will rectify the issue. I have owned the TS310 and loved the sheer power of the speaker and the price was reasonable. JBL also have the better control over line and mic. The combo design of the Alto line/mic input is already an upgrade area before you buy the speaker! JBL wins unless you need ear bleeding volume levels and an increased risk factor to blowing your cones or amp from line/mic overspill. I also agree that the finishing on the Altos is unpleasant and over grippy. It needs washing from time to time if you wish to maintain a fresh appearance because dust just loves that surface!

    • @yanikbeauchemin9456
      @yanikbeauchemin9456 4 года назад

The Alto's flat setting has a brighter high end, and have less midrange. As you said, an EQ is a must.
The Altos also sound harsher at any given volume level, and they cause more ear fatigue even at lower volumes.

I am a solo singer that uses backing tracks so all the balance is already set on the music track so I am looking for a speaker that has a decent low frequency drive without it becoming "boomy" or "muddy" I usually play to an average size room in a club of about 30ft by 50ft seating around 150 people max, are these any good for that type of application please?

I would say the comparison from an online source is inconclusive. I have had systems since I was 15 years old starting with a Pair of Peavy Bullfrogs and a 6 channel 300w powered mixer. That evolved quite a bit. In 1987 I went to buy a decent ssystem and was intending on buying JBLs but EV had just come out with the EV1202 wedges and the EV1503 3 ways. For the money the Evs were comparable and the money I save allowed me to buy an Allen, Heath, Brussell s16 mixer and a Roland Dep5. I have also had Meyer Soundlab cabinets on the high end. In a small club environment the EVs are still kicking ass. However they are very heavy. I just picked up two TS218S subs and two TS312 for a combined total of $400 on closeout. Its all in how you run your system and the stage volume the musicians play at. I am sure thjat they will work fine and my Active Spectrum Analyzer will EQ the system and sound great as long as we don't brutally overpower the system

The JBL had much better lows and possibly mids though. I bought an Alto TS312, but it's just for personal use. As long as it gives me decent sound at low volumes, I'll be happy.

I was sold on the JBL until I watched this video. A lot of comments here debating which is better. I thinking, if they perform quite closely to each other, for me it's coming down to the fact that the Alto is going for around 100 bucks cheaper per unit. Also, as a working musician, 16kg makes the Alto super light - even though the JBL was already relatively light at 18kg. The Alto is also slightly smaller. Finally, I use a mixing desk, so although the Bluetooth app on the JBL is excellent for EQ etc, I really don't need any of that as I am doing my EQing on the desk. As for sound quality, I am listening back on studio monitors - the Alto seems to have great depth of low end/bass. Either way, again, I can EQ sculpt with the desk. Great review. Thank you!
