Here is a tip. I make broths/stocks in big batches and to separate off the fat I use a lemonade dispenser (the kind with the spigot at the bottom). Mine holds two gallons. I just put all my broth in it, let it sit for an hour or so, then drain off the broth and just stop when it drains down to the fat layer.
I usually refrigerate my bone broth and skim off the fat before canning it. I don't have room in any of my freezers to pre-freeze any of the food before I freeze dry it. Whatever I can't freeze dry, I can or dehydrate.
Great choices! I currently have ginger and lemon slices in my freeze-dryer. Last week, I freeze-dried black beans. I only put them in there because three-quart jars did not seal when canning. What an incredible mistake! Those freeze-dried black beans tasted terrific! I've also freeze-dried some fruit for our bird feeders.
You made me laugh…..I was so sure that after the vid of you and your sister (snap peas), that when you started off, “watching that makes me miss……..summer”, LOL! I was sure you were going to say you miss your sister, LOL!
Another great freeze drying video! I've yet to do snap peas but I have done a couple of garbanzo bean batches and they are awesome!! Have you ever tried to freeze dry honey(bee nectar)? I'm not getting fresh...lol. Have a very merry Christmas and we are all looking forward to a great New Year!!!
I like the snap peas. But the only thing my big dog wouldn't eat was the snap peas from costco😂he would eat anything. My favorite freeze dried food that I have made is strawberries. They are so bright and flavorful. Really as good as or better than fresh strawberries!
Unfortunately, I think RUclips's new "AI" adventures messed with the video. 🙄 A couple of other YT creators I follow have been having issues and have had to re-upload their glitchy videos. It's a pain, for sure. Technology is great when it works. Totally appreciate all you do!!! 😄👍

You cook so many things, you need a video showing some recipes, especially these oatmeal breakfasts.
@@hyfy-tr2jy thank you great tip!!
@@donnkloepfer1316 here’s my oatmeal video from earlier this year ruclips.net/video/z_r_3OwMwBs/видео.htmlsi=L1nubJMMbKCzUA5S
I make steel cut oats in my crockpot with apples, raisins and cinnamon. I then FD it all and it’s so wonderful in the mornings.

@@MyOutdoorWildlife oh bummer when canning messes up!! Great ideas thanks for sharing!
The video for the chicken curry prep didn't play. Just a black screen for a minute.
Yes, it didn't play for me either. I was able to see everything else.
Same for me. I had to double check that the tv didn’t turn off. Scared me when it popped back on the screen for the taste test. 😂
Same here
@@texasnurse oh no thank you for telling me! I went in and deleted that clip I hope it doesn’t take too long to update. I don’t know what happened 🫠
There are several ways to strain broth, but I use a honey straining screen that is mesh screen that looks like a coffee filter. Zero fat in the broth.
Oh wow that sounds perfect!
I am so going to make that coconut curry! I have done sugar snap peas and they are awesome
@@reneebeam426 the curry is amazing!
I too ran into the same problem. The chicken curry prep was just a black screen for me.

Love the video! I have recently freeze dried bone broth, but I am uncertain how to reconstitute it. Is there a formula?
@@jeankohtala666 mine ended up being about a 1/20 ratio I part powdered broth 20 parts water

Try Chili sometime. Curious if that would work.
I have actually and it works beautifully!! It’s a great one and reconstitutes perfect

Some of my favorites are eggs, cheese, oranges and so much more.
Such good ones!
Oooh, I have GOT to try those peas (and the chickpeas!!)
Sooo good! The chickpeas were very powdery when you bite into them… I didn’t love but they would be perfect to turn into hummus

I have heard honey is one of the things that doesn’t freeze dry well due to the sugar content …..
Merry Christmas!

Super!!
Bone broth: drop some ice cubes in before freezing. fat will coagulate around the cubes. Scoop out with a sieve spoon.
