Mr. Dodzin, with all due respect- and I mean this sincerely- are you commenting on this piece, Ravel's Pavanne for a Dead Princess? or did you mean to post it for another work & landed here accidentally? Because to my mind, Ravel didn't compose this gorgeous, lush, gentle and deeply felt music in anything close to neoclassical style. I feel that this piece is Ravel in his uniquely impressionist element, gentle & subtle yet with surges of big emotional potency expressed by the wind soloists and later in string section solos, not to mention the awe-inspiring, heaven-like harp! Maybe you were listening to Faure's Masques et Bergamasques, which is truly in neoclassical style. Just wanted to get more clear...

What a colorful performance! I knew the moment I heard the French horn that this would be a beautiful interpretation. I especially loved the attention given to the countermelody played by the bassoonist in the B section; I hear it easily in piano performances, but rarely well in orchestral ones. Perhaps a little more blending in the strings in the C section would have been nice (I love to hear the slight sliding in tandem), but that would be my only critique and it’s really a minor one. The ending, though, is perfect... and the silence afterward makes it ever more contemplative.
The recording is wonderfully clear, and the instrumentalists and conductor are fantastic musicians. Bravo!

AMAZING!! Maurice Ravel is one of my favorite composers! And this performance has to rank at the top of all the performances I've heard of "Pavane pour une infante défunte." It is more ... leisurely? ... than a lot of performances, which gives me time to savor the beauty of the orchestration. I must confess to not thinking of this as a "Pavane for a Dead Princess," but in a less morbid way as a "Pavane for a Princess from a Far-Away Time." In all, sterling!

Yes, it's so beautiful. But I heard another version by an Asian pianist and now I can't find it. Anyone help?

Haha - you're absolutely correct of course. (I just checked it, and the sustained B is 500Hz instead of 493Hz). And thank you! I just spent two hours trying to record solo violin over the top of it and really struggled with tuning in places. Having mentally moved up the A string to match the horn, I was then horribly sharp for the strings later. I triple checked the tuning of two different violins and all was well for the tuning A and opening G and ending D, but went badly wrong in other places. I couldn't work out what has happening - and then I saw your comment!! 😄
