Journey is Amy and my 'Love Ballad' band. So many joyous, wonderful romantic times with Journey playing. Love you always dearest, courageous, beautiful, spiritual, loving, compassionate Amy.❤
The reason it sounds like the crowd is "dead" is because the audio was taken from the soundboard. The crowd noise simply isn't in the mix. Golden Gate Park holds about 200,000 people and it is quite LOUD as I've seen several festivals there. Can't believe how goofy some of these comments are.
No if the crowd were loud their lips would be moving which they aren't! And why if the crowd was so loud as you say does Steve need to constantly beg for them to react?
@@patricklarry6645 you're just plain wrong. this is a soundboard recording. the audience noise is not in the mix. i work in sound editing and have seen probably thousands of concert videos and bootlegs. this isn't a question mark. Journey is quite popular in San Francisco. And Steve is always egging on the crowd to participate. He does that in every show, every Journey concert video.
@@patricklarry6645 lol ok, i'll go along with your theory that 200,000 people agreed to be completely silent during one of the most popular hits by one of the most popular bands in San Francisco. Even though you can literally hear the crowd cheering en masse after the song ends, the band's mics picking up the nat sound from the event.
This is definitely a moment where it's obvious that the 80's truly were over. Not just the calendar years, the overall magic of that decade. Back in the 80's, when songs like Open Arms and Faithfully began playing, the world literally stood still. But, musical tastes had changed. This was when songs like Nothing Compares 2 U were playing on the radio every five seconds.
I would have liked to hear Steve asking a song with Sinead... Probably no one would like this comment, maybe even Steve wouldn't, well he probably wouldn't, but I think that would have been awesome.

Wear and drugs. Drugs are a singers worst nightmare. Did a number on whitney Houston also. Singers are learning to treat their voice box well, it's their lively hood.

Whenever you get fed up with the crap that is on the radio, you can log onto to RUclips and see how much better music was back then than it is today.
Steve Perry wrote and co-wrote many of the songs that made them famous. Steve Perry actually, has written and even sang back up for many artists for decades. He arranged, produces, re-mix, and all involved with record. Has been involved with making Vinyls recently, of his 2018 album, Traces. He’s so talented. So is Jonathan Cain (Keyboards/writing/co-writing), and Neal Schon, is such a talented guitarist.
Yes his voice is no longer in shape but emotions are still well conveyed. And to hear the voice of the legend artist who brought these iconic songs is ecstatic enough. 2022 faithfully and timeless
It's sad seeing this. From what I've read, Steve was going through a lot with the hip troubles and personal life things prior to this gig. I also imagine though, he didn't spend much time vocalizing. If you don't use it, you lose it =( . The amount of care this guy put into his singing is evident in the live shows prior to this. I recall reading interviews where he wouldn't party with the band after gigs or talk prior to shows after warming up. That's what it takes to perform and sing at the level Mr. Perry did. A lot of dedication and a lot of sacrifice.
it was a degenerative bone disease that showed up when he injured his hip when hiking. that was around 1997. this is approximately 3 to 4 years earlier.

But, what do I know, some of the comments below are clearly from household name internationally known recording artists with Grammy awards falling out of their arses, right, so we should respect their opinions, yes ..... ?
Steve thought he was at a Journey concert again and failed to realize Journey had been dead for about 4-5 years at this point. The crowd wasn't feeling it, it was obvious. Journey wasn't hot then, they had ZERO momentum, retired abruptly, and Don't Stop Believing was an afterthought at this time. Now lthey are filling up FRICKIN stadiums with a backup singer on top of it. A great one in that with Mr. Arnel Pineda. They are alive and well although nearing the end and Steve just made his one last album, encore. He will probably do a limited date Solo tour and fade off into the sunset after that to. Love u Steve, Journey. Thanks for all the wonderful memories. You have touched millions of people with your beautiful music!!!!
If Pineda doesn't stick around with Journey, they can find another vocalist who can mimic Perry. All they have to do is go on RUclips and find another one. LOL. You can play your instrument into your 80s and probably beyond, it's the vocals that have to be replaced or retired.
So this week Journey got inducted to the Rock Hall of Fame. And the man, Steve Perry standing on the same stage as his old band. For the first time since 1991. And the question of the night was , would Steve sing with Journey? For the first time in 26 years. But it didn't happen, and now Journey fans know for sure this video will always be the final show of Steve with Journey
I've just seen this and while this may have been Steve Perry's last show with Journey his voice STILL sounded amazing. Yes, the sound overall maybe wasn't great and him trying to get the crowd to sing along was like flogging a dead horse (what the hell was wrong with them - they were like zombies!) BUT, despite that, Steve still sounded much the same as he did on any of the albums that he did with Journey and NOBODY could match him vocally. He has a very distinctive voice and even though one of their subsequent vocalists (the Asian guy) seemed to desperately try to emulate him that was to no avail - only Steve sounds like Steve. So, for all the people on here who say that his performance was 'sad' I say BULLSHIT - what was sad was Journey signing up that wannabe vocalist later on after they lost Steve.
Iam very sad listening to this...I can clearily understand and feel that he is emotionaly depressed ....perfoming like a wreck....He's been through much in His life He is almost crying on stage!!!!!!
Yes. Bill Graham...long time concert promoter. He helped give Steve his start. He was MUCH beloved. So along with other bands, the main 3 of Journey wanted to give tribute to him.
to be honest there is no comparison its like saying a copy of the mona lisa could be compared to the real one. no matter it will never be as good and arnel does not sing it correctly for whatever reasons he has changed it too much
Just to be fair.....Steve made it into the music hall of fame, based on his song writing and unique vocals. Arnel is awesome but he tagged on to what already was, that’s why he’s stagnant. You can never compare the original recording artist to a stand in trying to sing their song. Steve is forever locked into history for his songs with Journey including Faithfully, and that’s forever sealed, period! Vocally, Steve is one of the best vocals to have ever walked this earth. His pitch and tone were very near flawless.......
Who in the WORLD was responsible for sound check...? I'd strongly say that a lot of reverb is missing...... we are talking beautiful Rock & Roll ballad - Faithfully And the crowd is so disappointing uff I also realize that all the songs have been stepped down 2 scales, but Steve still does a great job even though his voice seems to be exhausted.
This performance was definitely tuned down a whole step. It is in the key of A. The studio version of Faithfully is in the of B. I just checked this on my piano. Why did Journey do that here live?
to much mix, passagio or wathever you wanna call it if he sung it in the original key.... he mostly sung this performance in his chest voice.... maybe he just feel not comfortable that day.... its apparent voice break occured when he get into the mix voice.... but he is still my greatest vocalist of all time....
I noticed that as well. I can't help but think a 68-year-old Steve Perry who certainly has been one of the finest vocalist ever come down the pike could sing the notes of his youth in 2016. All very due respect, my favorite singer of all time, but just a humble observation.
because they were showing RESPECT to the man being honored here, people. ..don't forget! this was something of a memorial service and therefore more somber.
rob and everyone PLEASE READ THE SUMMARY BEFORE COMMENTING. IT WAS AT A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR A DEAR FRIEND WHO GAVE SO MANY THEIR START IN THEIR CAREERS AND PROMOTED THEM. Please show respect for the somber occasion that it was the as did Journey. Steve was encouraging the crowd to sing so that they wouldn't stay in their sadness too long. it is not a display to excite the crowd but a chance for them to get together and be heartfelt and deeply moved by what Bill Graham did for music and to understand how life is NOT guaranteed to any of us (Bill Graham died in a helicopter accident). SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read the summary before commenting and pay your respects to this great promoter. thank you.
@@vincemendoza28 He wad isn't 68 here, he was 42. And apparently had just returned to the band. If this was in 91, didn't he leave the band in 87? He'd been gone for four years.
This was the last reunite he had with Journey. Aw, and a dead crowd was there. but his voice sounded pretty good here. And after FTLOSM tour he was completely done with music.
I thought he still really sounded great. I always liked his hair longer. The band sounds wonderful and this crowd sucks like I’ve never seen. What’s wrong with these people??? I would have been thrilled to be there! 💫
He was gorgeous back then. He's also smokin' in the clip from 94 in NYC. Wow. He never sounded or looked better than that one too. It's too bad he quit altogether after he left in ?? 1997? He had another good decade of rock ahead of him if that 94 show is to be believed. He could have hired a bunch of studio musicians post Journey and gone on the road with new songs or covering Journey songs. :( I mean, the guy had hip surgery though, you can't run and jump around the stage after a hip replacement, but he could still have belted out some songs for another 8-10 years.
Who the hell dares to say this performance was bad? lol! this is a slightly different version of the song but Steve's vocal job here is basically flawless, not loosing the control of his voice at any point. Don't take me bad, I love Arnel Pineda very much but this is by no means a bad or mediocre performance.
I know he had melanoma, but the throat cancer was said to be a rumor. He broke his hip & the band decided not to wait for him to heal so he left the group. I was too young to ever see Steve in concert- I would have given mad respect- this crowd was dead. It just isn't Journey without- Steve Perry.
He needed a hip surgery. The band was constantly calling and trying to rush him into one...not out of concern for him but for themselves. He made them millions and put them on the map. They should have given him as much time needed to make the decision and to research the best prosthetic....doctors etc. They bluffed him by saying they needed to know because they were going to start looking at other singers. He called his attorney and said start the divorce. This is from an interview with Steve Perry. Aerosmith has taken many long vacations from eachother....and the band has had iconic longevity. These guys are world class douche bags to hand their band brother's persona to impersonators.
Dude, where did you get this? I thought Journey went on hiatus from 1989 (the time of Bad English) to 1996 (Trial by Fire)? What is interesting about this performance is that Faithfully seems to be tuned down a half step. Why?
I had forgotten he was still with journey in the early 90's. I think this was the last gasp of the band with steve. He doesn't exactly look happy here or very inspired. He seems ready to be done to me.
@@misfit5775 Rock fans aren't somber when someone dies. Plus it was Bill Graham, he wasn't even a performer. Granted he was a Bayarrhea institution (I'm from S.F., still live here), but I'll bet other bands that day were smokin'.

This is a memorial concert, which is why the crowd was kinda dead.
I'm forever yours Steve Perry
사랑합니다 영원히
i love u forever
So this week Journey got inducted to the Rock Hall of Fame.
And the man, Steve Perry standing on the same stage as his old band. For the first time since 1991. And the question of the night was , would Steve sing with Journey? For the first time in 26 years.
But it didn't happen, and now Journey fans know for sure this video will always be the final show of Steve with Journey
He was with them until 96. LOL.
Stop making me cry please 😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I listen beautiful sing truly. l love you.♥♥♥
HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE PERRY!
Plus it was that special WOMAN that I had my HEART SET ❣️ on but she past away
im forever yours Mr Perry
No lo sé pero como que hay algo que no cuadra en este video..y creo que es el audio e imágenes.
❤❤❤❤maravilhoso para sempre
Iam very sad listening to this...I can clearily understand and feel that he is emotionaly depressed ....perfoming like a wreck....He's been through much in His life He is almost crying on stage!!!!!!
Poor Steve Perry's ,didn't realize he was singing at a cemetery. Dead crowd. Did someone die?
Yes. Bill Graham...long time concert promoter. He helped give Steve his start. He was MUCH beloved. So along with other bands, the main 3 of Journey wanted to give tribute to him.
I was only 32 when I heard this song and I was in Love
Love Steve Perry 💙
Steve perry Forever
Steve Perry's age here is the same with Arnel's when he joined journey way back 2008.
The comparison must be made here to be fair😊😊💯
Every person in this world has their own time
Still kick arnel ass
Why does it have to be a comparison between these 2 men? They're two different persons singing the same songs, so what?
to be honest there is no comparison its like saying a copy of the mona lisa could be compared to the real one. no matter it will never be as good and arnel does not sing it correctly for whatever reasons he has changed it too much
Just to be fair.....Steve made it into the music hall of fame, based on his song writing and unique vocals.
Hermoso
😍🌹🌹
Steve Perry having a bad day is still better than most singers best days
MrAlienautopsy 👍🏼
Who in the WORLD was responsible for sound check...? I'd strongly say that a lot of reverb is missing...... we are talking beautiful Rock & Roll ballad - Faithfully
And the crowd is so disappointing uff I also realize that all the songs have been stepped down 2 scales, but Steve still does a great job even though his voice seems to be exhausted.
Dracule Mihawk This was a tribute to Bill Graham. I think that the crowd was being respectful and sad that this great man was gone.
ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! It would inappropriate to be flashy and showcase your singing abilities.
podrás tener 70 años y te segurire Amando!!!! amo tu Don! !!!
And after FTLOSM tour he was completely done with music.
where is the drummer and bass player?
The crowd sucks due to who mixed the audio. You can barely hear them.
I think he is 42 years old in this video
he looks great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3 men band :) yes Where r the Drums?
Who the hell dares to say this performance was bad? lol! this is a slightly different version of the song but Steve's vocal job here is basically flawless, not loosing the control of his voice at any point. Don't take me bad, I love Arnel Pineda very much but this is by no means a bad or mediocre performance.
Steve's voice was wrecked, he hasn't sung a Journey song in the original key since 1986.
Did the crowd know any of the lyrics? Kinda like journey, the crowds died by the 90s
When you could go to a concert and actually hear the music.
very quiet crowd are dead
The audio wasn’t targeted towards the audience. Believe me they were going nuts
What a sucky crowd. Didn't even try to go along with it. No wonder he quit- disrespect.
Marsha Lynn he quit because he got throat cancer!
He didn't quit he got fired
+Steve Knill wrong hip surgery he refused to get his hip replaced so he got kicked
Why?
Robb This was at a memorial.
Robb ....lol ,he cant sing anymore like he used to...
Drums should be an integral part of this sonG!
Granted he was a Bayarrhea institution (I'm from S.F., still live here), but I'll bet other bands that day were smokin'.
everyone says steve this steve that what bout neal schon amazing guitarist.
