I'm supposed to be getting my first dirt bike soon and thought about a 250 2 stroke because of my weight (200lbs) now I'm thinking of getting a 125 instead...still, I heard the 250 is easier to ride because of the low end but once it gets into powerband theres no going back, you either ride or die
I had a Ninja ZX1000R and a friend of mine let me ride his Honda CR250 2 stroke one time. I thought to myself "This is nothing". When I came to a settle my friend told me the only reason I didn't wipe was because I held my feet firmly to the pegs. That thing was a beast. Too bad they're so high in maintenance. Later.
Ibcn Things the 250's really aren't that much maintenance especially if you're more into trails and what not. MX races will definitely shorten service intervals quite a bit, but an enduro 200-300cc 2 stroke only needs a topend every 80-150 hours, very comparable to 4 stroke bikes and way cheaper/easier to do.
Backyard; Right on. I think I'll get a Yamaha WR250R first and mod it some then maybe a WF. A YZ would just get me in trouble riding over the neighbors roof's. Ha.

Yeah that's the reason. The cylinder only gets lubrication when there is fule going trough. So when shift down and let off the throttle the rpm goes ut and no oil is lubricating the engine. Takes some getting used to when you come from a 4 stroke where you can enginebrake as much as you want :)
I did some research into it, apparently a huge controversy. Yes, when the engine is on it gets oil and fuel. But the Problem occurs at high rpm. When you are closed throttle you have very little gas/oil making its way into the crank case. Arguable not enough to keep the Internals Properly lubed.
