Kawasaki KX500 2 Stroke First Ride On a Track - Too Much Power?

- Опубликовано: 15 дек 2020
- Here is the first real ride I have ever done on my KX500. I wish I could have done a more complete moto but I kept getting stuck behind people as it was busy and I wanted to keep my camera lens clean... but there are more motos to come! This bike was a ton of fun to ride and challenging to keep a good pace going.

I love how when you hit the gas you go into another dimension
3:10 when he smacked that gas i was ohhhh shitttt thru the camera haha 😂500s just pull different man nothing like it
Yep, nothing like a 500 2 smoker.
Definately takes you into a dimension of blindig speed right now! Soon as you touch the throttle.
Amazing machines. I would love to getmy hands on an 500AF. With modern suspension and that power. MAN!
@@carlclonts8313 Same brother!!! A crisp kx500 with updated and revalved suspension 😍🙌🏼
The old bikes are faster than the ones we have now lol
@@hell0304 deadass tho just raw power only for men!
Sweet baby Jesus please let there be 2strokes in heaven 🙏
It wouldn’t be without them.
Amen
Ikr , I quit if their isnt
This comment made my day! Haha
If there's not then you're in hell =)
That's like bringing a hayabusa to a circuit track 😂
Man I love how just barely cracking the throttle sends you flying past these new bikes on the straights
The 450's are pretty fast too though
That usually happens when the other bikes are just cruising around.
That is the rider. You aren't going to pass a 450F because the bike is slower.
I love my kx450
@@mrbillnot lol what
Legend says he never needed to get out of 3rd gear
But did he even need 3rd? lol
That things got a power band, too. It's for when "as fast as you can possibly go" just isn't enough.
Reality is... It doesn't need anything less than 4th gear!!
There's nothing on earth like the rush of a 500cc two stroke. It takes a special kind of person to (willingly) climb aboard, start the terrifying monster of an engine, let the clutch go, crack the throttle and let it rip. My arms are sore just watching. Thank you!!!
That's not a dirtbike, its a time machine that only goes into the future
I would Never argue that! I feel like that on my 1990 KX250! So Powerful, I feel like I'm entering the Narnia Wardrobe! Every Ride Makes it A Great Day!
You get a sense from that video that the bike just wants to throw you off it like a wild horse
You were riding that green beast like a boss 👍
No (better) he’s was riding the beast , like a beast lol
Man, that thing looks sweet and sounds MAD! Gongratulations on that find man!
Thanks!

Upgrade the front and rear brake lines to stainless steel and get a over sized front rotor. Makes a huge difference on the stopping power. And don't forget to loctite every bolt 😂. Respring and valve the bike suspension accordingly, and it's pretty good. My kx500 suspension feels nice and plush, absorbs all the hits and impacts really nicely.
That’s good to know because my brakes on mine are terrible haha
Definately use blue loctite on all bolts!
Nah, you gotta buy the PLAID loctite for a 500. Nothing else will do.
@@justabouthadit5872 I'll bet you 500 cc guys have problems vibrating the bolts off. I had an RM 250 once and that thing rattled everything loose. Double the displacement and man...I couldn't even imagine.
@@carlclonts8313 I use Red. Ultimate strength. Just heat to remove.
Real men ride open class, welcome to the club !
He’s letting off and almost over jumping things. 🤘🏽
Props to you man, you're shredding on that monster!
That's what I love about the KX500, so much low end and mid range power. You can short shift, yet you're still absolutely flying. It was always great in sand too.
Thank you I felt like I was on the bike !!!! Great video!! It does my soul good to Remember those days...miss the big two strokes....have to limit myself to a four stroke three wheeler ....in my 60’s.....I just don’t trust myself or heal as quick lol

I used to ride a 89 KX500 of my buddies. They are great for riding wheelies like effortlessly. Great memories. Thanks for the cool video.
Unleash the beast! That sounds phenomenal.
Awesome I remember that video with the cr500 congrats on getting the kx500
I almost forgot how much of a workout riding those old 500's were, reason why I never owned one was they left me more tired than a hard day at work. (concrete)
Absolutely awesome riding Zach. That 500 has nothing on you🔥🔥
Thanks for the ride! I really miss the sound, feel and smell of riding dirt bikes ....did a lot of riding in my younger years.
You did a real nice job on both the CR and the KX,I have not been more jealous of anyone ever!
congrats on that find, that bike is MAD insane!
I had an 86 model when I was 20. Makes me sad when I think back to the good times. 52 now, living in a tent.

Balsey ride mate. Thanks for sharing it with us. Ride safe Bro 👌
That thing sounds amazing
Looks like a perfect starter bike.
Thanks for the nostalgia. Loved those old 500's...
Just never understood who was in charge of the fender and plastic designs on the KX 500's. Its like they knew it wasn't the same as the rest of their line up so they wanted to make a point.
The tiny footpegs on those old bikes gets your feet tired super fast. Man you started it like a champ
His non-stop pissing his pants LOL from this year torque and horsepower of that demon between his legs is hilarious. Thank you so much for sharing this video with us, I have laughed my butt off at the sheer speed of the beast on the straightaways
Man that thing is awesome. You had the big girl singing. I’d love a KX 500.
That thing is in perfect shape ! Nice bike.
That was tight. I rode green, and only green, but maxed on KX250's. Never had the balls to ride a KX500, always thought it'd be the end of me. Even those 250's could barely keep the front wheel down and watching that brought back fond memories. Let me tell you this; do not give up on that bike. Those chassis were stable and the 500 was even competitive in desert back then. Just make sure your forks dive enough to let you make your own line entering turns and all other adjustment will fall into place. Make it stick. That's the trick.
Nice bike well ridden, I know what it's like I ride an 1986 KX500 now 2020 and I love it sometimes it's even frightening the amount of power and how quick it make up ground
OMG!!!! How could I have not seen this!! It been on Utube a month now. I'm gonna listen to that baby for hours and hours
braaap braaap. What a beast 💪💪
Raced & rode plenty of the Big bores back in the day. Most of the racers nowadays don't realize how much easier it is to ride the bikes of today. The new bikes don't wear you down like these big boys. Much more throttle control, finesse, and strength is needed to race these big bores. Glad I grew up in the greatest era of MX.
You must be in pretty good shape to wrestle the bear for that long
Two stroke 500cc MX bikes require a LOT of respect! Growing up with all two strokes my brother raced +25A on one and sweet mother was it a handful.
Years back,i had a very early air-cooled KX420.That thing was mad,what a water-cooled 500 goes like i can only imagine but i bet it's fun
Yay, you posted finally!
The return of the king
I've had a KX500 for 18 years as my only dirt bike... any time I want to catch up with someone on a straightaway,,, I just twist the throttle. So fun :)
Dude that bike is super bad ass I want one bad!
My dad raced a 93 kx500 in the late nineties. Thing was a beast. I would jump on it after doing some motos on my 125. It would kick my butt but it made me ride my 125 faster afterwards. Our home track was Englishtown Nj, he would do 3rd gear starts and pull hole shots all the time. Definitely keep an eye on the bolts after every ride. Get a few of the foot peg bolts for spares and locktite them in. Ours would rattle out all the time. Also we use to go through a kick starter every year bc the metal stopper on the rotating assembly would where out and cock eye the kicker which didn’t help starting. Another tip, get a tube of silicone and squeeze that sucker into the bars to help with some vibration. Good luck and hold on bc your on a rocket ship. The kx is a total different beast than the Honda
Once had a go on an IT425 yamaha years ago, on the road, off road tyres, most exciting thing to this day(many years later)
Thats a bad ass bike man. I got one myself. The vibration is intimating at first
A beautiful beast!
Got to love two strokes 😀
I've been riding since 1983 and I've only had 1 dirt bike that wasn't 2 stroke (a 2004 KXF 250) and I went right back to 2 strokes but no way on the 500. I only rode on the back of a YZ 490 once. 250 2 strokes have so much dam power that I couldn't even imagine how much power a 500 cc 2 stroke has. I wouldn't mind trying one just once though. I have a KTM 150 SX and I put a 200 SX engine in it and that's the sweet spot for me. I could see myself with a YZ 250 some day, maybe, but never a 500. I could see it maybe out in the desert or something.
Nice vid man I just subb'd after first watching your 1st time out on a CR500. At the beginning I thought to myself "just wait for it to tank slap" and it did haha damn!! 😂 😂
I've had 2-strokes my whole life and you're right they have to be treated differently to the modern 4-strokes lol
One of the most amazing rides I've ever had was back in '92 on a A-Grade race prepped 1992 KX500. Had White Power forks & Ohlins rear shock, gold rims, Boyeson reeds and a full Pro Circuit pipe & muffler! I was 16 years old and prolly 130lbs wringing wet haha! 😂 It didn't even know I was there, just hanging on for the ride lol 🤣 What a fricken powerhouse that beast was... 🤔 💪🏼
I wonder if the young guns in 30 years will ride a current moto-x'er and wonder how we rode them fast also... 🤔 Ahhhhhh well it's prolly just a case of you get used to what you've got at the time.
Congrats on the purchase of that lovely old Kwakka, man. When you get it dialed you'll be eating 450's all day long 🤘🏼🤩
Thank you! Long live 2 strokes
It’s been so long since I paid attention to dirt bikes that I didn’t realize they didn’t make 2 strokes anymore LOL. My cousin had one just like this - never road it but when we rode together he would leave me in the dust on my XL175. I remember seeing that huge knobby tire destroy everything. Good times.
For those who used to mx 30 years ago this video was great. Lots of great memories and scars. It made by bones ache just watching it ha ha ha .
Brazil🇧🇷 I really like your motocross videos
need a bigger track now nice bike man.
That bad boy has two gears, first and Holy Fooook !!
have to be super fit to ride great work out
you know its fast when it looks fast on the video too
older bike now you know what the old school guys went through. Thats a bad ass machine
Respect heavy bike and old suspension but love the 500cc 2 stroke's
Nice video! I had an '04 KX500 that I bought new. That bike was really fun, but I had to be really careful. Riding in areas of both low traction and high traction could be dangerous. You would get lots of wheel spin on loose, dry ground, then hit an area that was tacky with good traction, and the bike would hook up suddenly and nearly loop out. You just had to really pay attention to the condition of the track. It was all just too much for me, so I sold it and got a YZ250, which is also powerful, but FAR easier to control and much easier to get fast lap times with.
2 Strokes Vibe.
You just bought 500cc's worth of vibration, something you'll have to get over, it goes with the 2 Stroke Territory.
Wait until you hit Power Band, and the front wheel lifts off the ground, while the back wheel's ripping up a Roster Tail, at the same time.
Great Video !

Very Well Done !
Much Respect, For Trying To Tame A 500cc 2 Stroke Motocross Bike, With All Your Camera Gear On !
You definitely need a clear mind, with no distractions whatsoever, to give that Death Machine, anywhere near full throttle.
Amazing power. I rode an xr 600. 100mph with the front wheel off the ground. A little scary. Run hard. Be safe.
Never sell it, neveeeeeer
Killer bike!
The jetting sounded lean. Could go up on both the pilot & the main.
The suspension can be made way better. I put a 2020 kx450 front end on mine & the shock was stiffened up substantially in both the spring & valving.
I just bought one of these and haven't ridden it yet since I've been getting it buttoned up, am I in danger? 😂😂😂😂😂😂 You're absolutely flying on that bike and it looks effortless lol
The Gas is on the right...nice video bro
Thank's, top vidéo 👍
I love this track
Filling the bars full of silicone helps vibration. But you have to do little at a time so it actually cures inside the bars other wise it will remain soft and gel like
This thing as 10 more HP than my KTM 300 and mine scares the living shit out of me at least a couple of times every day I took it out.
Now being Enduro, roots and shit was what really instilled fear but still, big 2 strokes are absolute monsters, awesome ones.
It’s so hard to gauge speed from other people POV footage but that thing seems so nuts. It sounds like you’re puttin around and still easily clearing those jumps. It looks like we’re watching it at X2 speed but we’re not.
Had a 92 wr500...rode it everyday for several years.. LOVED it! But i tried NOT to do wheelies in the first couple gears as it was violently powerful. The cr500 i rode didnt hold a candle to it..but a 360 husquvarna i rode was comparable power to weight ratio..
Funny thing I bought an 02 kx 250 a week ago but good find
Hell yeah dude!!!
I used to trail ride one of those, crazy!🤪
I still do. Bought in 01 still shredding Mother Earth with it. To this day still nothing like it. Man's bike
I had a 2000 wish I would have never sold it. There great bikes
nice ride :)
I raced a KX500 in Baja on and off in the 90's. They are very capable when set up right. I'm sure Pro Circuit still has all the specs. to get the motor and suspension dialed in. Mitch Payton is not known for throwing away stuff. They did all the Team Green KX500s.
Awesome , that looks scary
Cant even imagine the powerband on a 500 2-stroke. The camera picks it up pretty good.
She is a rippa! I had a 1987 pretty sure that bike burnt up a few of my 9 lives😂. Then she threw the con rod right threw the bottom of the case.....cuz well that’s what big bore smokers do, good times though awesome bike brings back memories of the good ol days. Hate to say it but the vibration never goes away just that big ol coffee can swinging around insider her. Keep on ripping. 👍
Nice, I ride that track all the time
Where is it ?
Beast!!!
cool stuff. why the bike stool. no kick stand on the bigger bikes? where can I find these awesome takes to practice on??
Loving the KX500. Can't wait to hear that thing properly up on the pipe.. if you dare 😉
A word of advice from someone who rides a 450 is to lock tight almost all the bolts that aren’t used when your doing maintenance on the bike👌
Big boy bike forsure, I bet that seat is slippery 😁
White Knuckle City ! What Fun
i have an 02 kx250 and it hangs with cr500's i wonder what the kx500 can do
Hey so I watched the CR 500 vid yesterday and this one just now, if given the choice, which bike would you prefer? KX or CR? Or is there much difference? Thanks for the vids 👍🏻
Nothing up with the CR but I'd take the KX every time. Think it pretty much comes down to personal preference/nostalgia. Correct me if i'm wrong but I seem to remember the kwak frames could be trouble where the motor bolted up top but more of an issue on the 250's (for a period!). I don't think many people would hit the 500's that hard anyway..
Only one thing I regret more than selling my KX 500. Selling my 64 Corvette Stingray for $2000 in 68.
Congrats on the bike and nice ride. Sounds a bit rough and not crisp. Might need piston and rings?
Everybody gangsta until the green gojira pass by 😍🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥
Soon as you hit the throttle just a little bit it pulls right back up to those four strokes lol..That kinda power will hurt you if you're not careful lol..
looks fun
Rev it a lil less, short shift her and the chassis suspension wont get as upset off the big landings and rough stuff (we get too used to our high revving modern 4-strokes and tend to over rev other/older bikes when stepping back on em haha) 👍
500s arent even built/tuned to run in thise high rpms
Rev it a little less huh? Ya dumb.
And smokers rev higher than strokers x4. Curb ur expertise Harry.
@@truthhurtshuh4316 Yes modern 2 Strokes normally rev higher than 4 Strokes, but not 500, curb your shittalk
@@Strasky_96 every one i ever had did what was different about yours
You should sell that beautiful machine to me...
Just kidding, but seriously.
Those things are beast!
I used to have a KX500. Wish I never sold it. Another consideration is rebuild cost. With a KX you put in a new piston and rings if the nikasil coating on the cylinder is not out of spec. I doubt that it's more than $150. Checked internet today, Wiseco piston, rings, circlips, gaskets $99. I think you could easily get 80 hours with oil changes and clean air filter before you need new rings. Tough to tell, because I didn't have an hour meter on mine and every time I pulled the top end it all was good. Remember the KX500 owned the Baja 1000 for a decade.
I have no idea about a KX450. I think they have titanium valves, maybe springs, timing chain, cams. The internet says it's $1,300 to $1,500. But that may include crank bearings. Not cheap, that's for sure.
