As a deaf person who was constantly bullied from preschool through college, I would never give my hearing aids or my cochlear implants to ANYONE because I knew they wouldn't take care of them. Hearing aids are $4,000 to $10,000 a pop (PER AID), and cochlear implants (without the surgery) are $30,000 each (because insurance won't cover them), and I would totally charge someone for property theft and damage if anything happened to my devices

ive always been bitter that i could never have earring aids despite being around 60-70% deaf (mostly because they wouldnt help as my issues stem from parts of the bones in my ear not being whole/ entirely missing) but ever since i found out the price of hearing devices, ive managed to settle with the fact that im glad im not more deaf and in desperate need of them like some people are. my family just dont have that money
The blonde girl is literally my least favourite character in this whole movie and it’s the same way for a lot of other people. Because she never even acknowledges how she also used to partake in the bullying. She always played the victim and blamed everyone else. She’s so infuriating!! Also YESSS Wolf Children was probably the first anime movie I watched and it was back when you could post full on anime episodes and movies on RUclips. It made me cry so much it’s such a good and impactful movie. I also love Whisker Away too! All of these movies are my favourites along with Ghibli movies, so even if you can’t post reactions to them I still recommend you watch them because your life will change I swear.
For real! I loved the movie but a lot of those 'friends' in my opinion didn't need to get redeemed. Most of them didn't even do anything to prove that they changed or wanted to. Especially Miki (blond girl), she got no consequences and it annoys the crap out of me. I especially don't like how Shoya was being painted as the bad guy by the others for speaking tf up...they were all super hypocritical even after they threw him under the bus. It's not like Shoya was perfect either but at least he learned from his actions (because his mother was not having it lol) and made an effort to change. The bystanders were the real bullies in my opinion, Shoyo's actions stemmed from their influence and approval. (lol sorry I'm a yapper)

The worst part is that Ishida's first instinct when he saw Nishimiya wasn't to bully her. He was actually willing to be friends or at least learn sign language. But because Ueno was annoyed by Nishimiya, he started mistreating her, nobody tried to stop him and one thing led to another........
YESS! the teachers create such a toxic environment from literally the FIRST SCENE SHES INTRODUCED. the kids were mean, but honestly i don't expect much else when the teachers are forcing shoko to rely only on other students for accomodation, without even really considering the other kid's needs. its a breeding ground for resentment, and children at that age don't handle strong feelings like that very well
When shoko tried to confess her feelings “The moon is beautiful, isn't it?” could mean “I love you” in Japanese. It can be used to express romantic feelings indirectly,
that is a common word play in japanese, but its kind of based on the fact that tsuki and suki sound quite alike (like prev commenter said) and with shoko's difficulty with pronunciation, it would be very easy to misinterpret what she said.

She was so much worse in the manga. I guess they cut it out because they didn't have much time to put it into the movie but it was very clear she was a narcissist. I think Shoko's mother slapped Shoya's mother really hard that it was enough for her earring to be ripped off her ear and in some Reddit posts they say that it’s in exchange for Shoko’s hearing aids, an eye for an eye. And also movie recommendation, Maquia: When the promised flower blooms.
The two mums never fought, I can't remember where I read it but Shoya's mum pulled her own earring out as a way to atone for Shoya hurting Shouko's ear.
Nah, Shoya's mother ripped her earring out of her own volition, there's no reason for them to have fought, and it's never suggested that they did. The whole reason they even met was to apologise, and Shoya's mother believed in an eye for an eye way of doing it... or in this case... ear for an ear.
I think it is payback. .....bcs shokos mother had the right to apply the same harm to the child who hurt her daughter like that but instead the pay back was done by his mother . ( eye for an eye )
This movie is so special because where other movies would take the route of villanizing the bully and saying there's nothing good to him, they show that he's a person just as much as the victim. He's not necessarily a bad person, he just made bad decisions. I also like the inclusion of Ueno because it shows that while some people can change, others can't.
As someone who was bullied in elementary school and who reunited with my bully a few years after this movie hits home, cause she fr tries everyday to make up for all the trauma and it’s one of the most healing experiences to see a bully grow and make up for their mistakes

I can still vividly remember the punches, the stomps, the taunts, the exclusion, the loneliness I felt being bullied through middle to high school. We remember the good moments but sometimes it's overpowered by the hurtful times. This movie saved my life, I hold it very dear and serves as a therapy for me. My suicidal thoughts were nulled by this beautiful work of art, it's now my favourite movie of all time. Thanks for the amazing reaction
ugh i always cry at the end of this movie even if it's a reaction. as someone who had struggled with crippling social anxiety as a kid and teen, the X's on the face and not being able to hear things around you is a perfect depiction of how it felt for me. although i still have those moments, i'm glad to say the X's are off and i can hear now. also that scene and the ending of Queen Charlotte just break me. thinking about it, i realized that they are both bittersweet scenes with a happy ending. watching something so emotional and depressing and finally getting that relief of happiness is such a rollercoaster.
3:38 Is one of the details many people don't notice. The blond girl pretends to start singing, Shoko watches her and starts singing herself. The girl literally sabotaged her. She was also one of the kids who bullied her, but unlike Shoya who admits to it, she pretends to be an innocent lamb. She even had you fooled 😅3:56 29:53 bruh shes such a manipulative b "I never did anything to heeeeer I was hurt toooooo 🥺" ugh I hate rer so much they should've cut contact with her. She's the only character that hasn't changed or learned any lesson.
The anime series A Sign of Affection also centers around a deaf protagonist, but it's a slice-of-life and very wholesome series so it's not likely to ever leave you an emotional wreak unless you're prone to sweetness overload. I recommend the sub though to start so you don't miss what any text says since it tends to be relevant a lot of the time.
This movie really hit me personally. I have a hearing loss and while I was never bullied for it, it did cause me a lot of anxiety and made me feel like a freak for needing hearing aids. I obviously don't feel this way now as an adult but I sure did as a kid. I also to this day suffer with extreme social anxiety so that topic also hit me deeply.
Actually when you're asking why Shoya's mom's ear was bleeding it's becuase Shouko's mom had given her the treatment which Shoya gave to Shouko. Shouko's mom ripped Shoya's mom earring off which cost her to bleed. It resembles when Shoya ripped Shouko's hearing aids off her ears. (I HOPE THIS HELP! I CLICKED SO FAST WHEN I SAW THIS. Hi Rukiya! This is a great movie. As a deaf kid growing up, I faced a lot of bullies, as did Shoko. There's also another hint about Deaf culture: eye contact is a way to connect with others, so if you break eye contact, it's considered rude; this is a nice touch of the main character to finally make eye contact toward the ending.
Silent voice is a really good example to show people that just because someone has a condition of some sort doesn’t make them less human, (sorry if this offends people) but in all seriousness, it holds a deep but powerful message, (I did shed tears tho)

A thing many people miss about the blonde girl is in the first choir song… she starts early & smirks when Shoko starts singing early. I think she did it just to then say what she said & “look good.” The manga goes a little more into it. Granted, this is a beautiful adaptation. After reading the manga the animation has LOTS of subtle references to it that just couldn’t all be included in a film. Great reaction. I love that you react to dubbing. Dubs vary in quality, but most nowadays are pretty good.
The part where Shoya misinterpreted Shoko is a direct translation from the original JP version, where tsuki, "the moon" sounds like suki, which means "i like you" (where like is more like love in a romantic context)
I don't know if someone else already said it first in the comments, but regarding the "moon" part of the dialogue in japanese she says "suki" (i like you) and the pronunciation is similar to the word "tsuki" (moon), so that's why he misunderstood what she said from "love" to "moon", it's a line of dialogue difficult to translate in the same way since it's all based on the pronunciation ^^

when i first watched this movie, it wasnt that deep for me. but something happened in my life that affected a lot of people that i loved. it gave me the worst social anxiety and panic attacks i've ever had. after watching this video, i realized how much i relate to shoya's depressive stage. the fear of being around people because i was so afraid that they were talking about me or thst one thing i did wrong. i kept isolating and distancing myself from everyone because of the fear of being judged. but when shoya was finally able to hear and all the x's were finally gone, i remembered how i gave myself a chance to open myself again to others. i have never realized how special and how connected this movie was to me.

I am 27 now and still have problems with loving myself I was bullied so much that we moved three times and the whole time I was quiet and I never said or did anything. I was dealing with trauma from when I was younger by SA from my cousin and so my outlet in life was Disney and always being kind and nice. I have anxiety or diagnosed with it and depression at a young age and it’s been so hard with also I was bullied for my skin (not because I’m black) but I was born with a rare skin birthmark that left spots on my face,my teeth grew in all at once and I was made fun of for that and my weight for being small so yeah…I cried for soka because I saw myself as her and it’s crazy how the little bit of sunshine in this world usually is told to be realistic by people who aren’t happy and that’s not what you should do. Those people who are happy and such usually are the ones suffering the most. So I love that you are kind and caring and I see myself in you as a person. I really love this movie. Teaches a lot of things. Facing the things you feel guilty for and also facing the thing one that bullied you. Both amazing lessons for character development and growth. And the theme of depression is huge ofc but running away isn’t a solution if you can’t get through the storm you won’t get to the rainbow with the pot of gold. 🙏

I was heavily bullied in middle school, not because I was Deaf but because I have Selective Mutism. I couldn't talk at all, people really hate anyone different from them. Even in highschool I had some people who tried bullying me but I really just shut everything out at that point. I have such a strong connection with Shoya and Shoko it's insane. I can't help but cry everytime I watch this movie, it's beautiful

Also, the scene after Shoko's attempt in which she 'confronted her' was even worse too...she managed to make it all about herself. I really don't remember much from it since I read it a long time ago, but that much I did.

The two mums never fought, I can't remember where I read it but Shoya's mum pulled her own earring out as a way to atone for Shoya hurting Shouko's ear.
Nah, Shoya's mother ripped her earring out of her own volition, there's no reason for them to have fought, and it's never suggested that they did.
The whole reason they even met was to apologise, and Shoya's mother believed in an eye for an eye way of doing it... or in this case... ear for an ear.
I think it is payback. .....bcs shokos mother had the right to apply the same harm to the child who hurt her daughter like that but instead the pay back was done by his mother . ( eye for an eye )
This movie is so special because where other movies would take the route of villanizing the bully and saying there's nothing good to him, they show that he's a person just as much as the victim. He's not necessarily a bad person, he just made bad decisions.
I also like the inclusion of Ueno because it shows that while some people can change, others can't.
As someone who was bullied in elementary school and who reunited with my bully a few years after this movie hits home, cause she fr tries everyday to make up for all the trauma and it’s one of the most healing experiences to see a bully grow and make up for their mistakes

We remember the good moments but sometimes it's overpowered by the hurtful times. This movie saved my life, I hold it very dear and serves as a therapy for me. ugh i always cry at the end of this movie even if it's a reaction. as someone who had struggled with crippling social anxiety as a kid and teen, the X's on the face and not being able to hear things around you is a perfect depiction of how it felt for me. although i still have those moments, i'm glad to say the X's are off and i can hear now.
also that scene and the ending of Queen Charlotte just break me. thinking about it, i realized that they are both bittersweet scenes with a happy ending. watching something so emotional and depressing and finally getting that relief of happiness is such a rollercoaster.

The anime series A Sign of Affection also centers around a deaf protagonist, but it's a slice-of-life and very wholesome series so it's not likely to ever leave you an emotional wreak unless you're prone to sweetness overload.
I recommend the sub though to start so you don't miss what any text says since it tends to be relevant a lot of the time.
This movie really hit me personally. I have a hearing loss and while I was never bullied for it, it did cause me a lot of anxiety and made me feel like a freak for needing hearing aids. I obviously don't feel this way now as an adult but I sure did as a kid. I also to this day suffer with extreme social anxiety so that topic also hit me deeply.

Actually when you're asking why Shoya's mom's ear was bleeding it's becuase Shouko's mom had given her the treatment which Shoya gave to Shouko. Shouko's mom ripped Shoya's mom earring off which cost her to bleed. It resembles when Shoya ripped Shouko's hearing aids off her ears.

I’m not sure if someone already mentioned this but the part where Shouko confesses to Shoya, the reason he thought she said the moon is because in Japanese moon and love are very similar. Hope that helps and amazing reaction love you ❤️❤️
Hi Rukiya! This is a great movie. As a deaf kid growing up, I faced a lot of bullies, as did Shoko. There's also another hint about Deaf culture: eye contact is a way to connect with others, so if you break eye contact, it's considered rude; this is a nice touch of the main character to finally make eye contact toward the ending.
Silent voice is a really good example to show people that just because someone has a condition of some sort doesn’t make them less human, (sorry if this offends people) but in all seriousness, it holds a deep but powerful message, (I did shed tears tho)

A thing many people miss about the blonde girl is in the first choir song… she starts early & smirks when Shoko starts singing early. I think she did it just to then say what she said & “look good.” The manga goes a little more into it. Granted, this is a beautiful adaptation. After reading the manga the animation has LOTS of subtle references to it that just couldn’t all be included in a film.

The part where Shoya misinterpreted Shoko is a direct translation from the original JP version, where tsuki, "the moon" sounds like suki, which means "i like you" (where like is more like love in a romantic context)
miki and ueno actually pissed me off so much during that one scene when shoko transferred schools. they literally just blamed it on shoya

I don't know if someone else already said it first in the comments, but regarding the "moon" part of the dialogue in japanese she says "suki" (i like you) and the pronunciation is similar to the word "tsuki" (moon), so that's why he misunderstood what she said from "love" to "moon", it's a line of dialogue difficult to translate in the same way since it's all based on the pronunciation ^^

I haven’t seen this movie in ages but god the scene where the X’s come off the faces and THAT scene always gets me right in the heart 😢 what a beautiful movie
when i first watched this movie, it wasnt that deep for me. but something happened in my life that affected a lot of people that i loved. it gave me the worst social anxiety and panic attacks i've ever had. after watching this video, i realized how much i relate to shoya's depressive stage. the fear of being around people because i was so afraid that they were talking about me or thst one thing i did wrong. i kept isolating and distancing myself from everyone because of the fear of being judged.
but when shoya was finally able to hear and all the x's were finally gone, i remembered how i gave myself a chance to open myself again to others. i have never realized how special and how connected this movie was to me.

Girl I literally feel you on that. I am 27 now and still have problems with loving myself I was bullied so much that we moved three times and the whole time I was quiet and I never said or did anything. I was dealing with trauma from when I was younger by SA from my cousin and so my outlet in life was Disney and always being kind and nice. I have anxiety or diagnosed with it and depression at a young age and it’s been so hard with also I was bullied for my skin (not because I’m black) but I was born with a rare skin birthmark that left spots on my face,my teeth grew in all at once and I was made fun of for that and my weight for being small so yeah…I cried for soka because I saw myself as her and it’s crazy how the little bit of sunshine in this world usually is told to be realistic by people who aren’t happy and that’s not what you should do. Those people who are happy and such usually are the ones suffering the most. So I love that you are kind and caring and I see myself in you as a person. Thank you for reacting and being your authentic sweet self.

I really love this movie. Teaches a lot of things. Facing the things you feel guilty for and also facing the thing one that bullied you. Both amazing lessons for character development and growth. And the theme of depression is huge ofc but running away isn’t a solution if you can’t get through the storm you won’t get to the rainbow with the pot of gold. 🙏

I was heavily bullied in middle school, not because I was Deaf but because I have Selective Mutism. I couldn't talk at all, people really hate anyone different from them. Even in highschool I had some people who tried bullying me but I really just shut everything out at that point. I have such a strong connection with Shoya and Shoko it's insane. I can't help but cry everytime I watch this movie, it's beautiful

I remember seeing the scene where Shouko attempted to take her own life and just crying. Because it's so well done and I could relate. That movie broke me.
There's a running theme throughout the movie of Shouya and Shouko reaching for the other's hand and missing, leading up to the climax when Shouya was able to grab her hand when it mattered most

I kind of feel how Shoko is feeling, I have a complicated disability and was bullied through out my school years, I may not be deaf but I do feel the pain and struggle whilst being bullied for something like a disability
