      Unrelated but I've looked just about everywhere for this answer. What's the video file size difference between A7S3 and A7R4?? A lot of folks say prepare for the file size that comes with the A7R4 (which i have) but now seeing the new A7S3 out, ppl are saying video file are pretty big as well. If so, which camera takes more or less space when it comes to recording in RAW uncompressed? Please and thank you 🙏

    QUESTIONS:
    1. How much is the total cost for the set up?
    2. Can you come up with the setup for people who don’t have $$$?
    3. Can you be more relatable to normal people?

    • @kevinw0lf
      @kevinw0lf 4 года назад +19

      1) There's links for every gear in the description, but you are looking at roughly 12,5k usd. As said, totally overkill.
      2) Even though there's a lot to save on that, one thing needs to be set: Which uses do you have for it? Livestreaming? Conference calls? RUclips? I'm not gonna be in detail, but for livestreaming you can get away with more gaming centred peripherals, otherwise you might need to spend some extra for remaining discrete.
      You can get:
      Camera: Logitech Brio (lower end option, cost is 220) or a dedicated one like the RX100Va wih an Elgato Cam Link (or the Atomos Connect as a cheaper alternative to the Cam Link, cost is variable, over 1k tho)
      Microphone: Blue Yeti (quite the standard desk mic for livestreaming, cost around 130) or the Hyperx Quadcast if you are okay with more "gamery" looks, or - in my opinion the best option - the Rode NT-USB (cost around 170)
      Headphones (you gotta hear right?): ATH-M50x (quite another standard for music, not so much for games, cost 150), or the Sony MDR-1am2 (yes, expensive. yes you can often find them way cheaper refurbished. Great sound and very comfortable, also beautiful but discreet; cost 300 new,130-ish refurb), or a Logitech G935 (good headset, even more surprising for a wireless one, cost a hundred-ish? I don't even know how they go for usually).
      So on the lower end you can spend about about 500 and on the higher end it will be more like 2000 depending on how you spend it really...
      I can't answer number 3 lol

    • @kevinw0lf
      @kevinw0lf 4 года назад +3

      Oh I also forgot lighting, major importance for that (otherwise you could have Sara's fancy cam and would still look shitty), not much to look for, I like viltrox panels for being very high quality but also cheap. The VL-200t is quite thin and big enough to not have strong shadows if you place correctly. I didn't mention stands and other accessories as you can find so many similar ones at different pricepoints, it boils down to how sturdy you need them to be.

That's the Rodecaster noise gate and it needs a little tweaking to not do that. Also, if you have this setup, change the Zoom settings to use "original sound" to turn off the Zoom compression and noise gating. Thanks for all the videos Sara!

    Sara, thank you for all the tips and products. I've been spending way too much time on Zoom and I wasn't sure where to begin fixing my setup. I already had a bunch of "Gear", so I didn't need to build a whole studio, but the Elgato Key Light is great. I probably should've gotten a pair of the Air lights instead of one 2800 lumen light, but it's a huge improvement and so flexible. For the camera, I kept digging for a less costly fix, and found Linus' recommendation for the DroidCam app! iPhone mounted on a cheap clamp scissor mount and everything is looking better. I may even try something to build up to full 3-point lighting. Thanks for the inspiration.

    Sara, there is one draw back to the RODECaster Pro when you use the USB port for your PC....that is you cannot playback a video to the people in your Zoom call. There are a couple of options that are available cheaply. One is download VoiceMeeter Banana which has a learning curve. The option I use is a 3.5 mm to XLR connection to channel 4 on my RODECaster. I use a MPOW ground loop isolater to ensure no 60 hz hum in my audio.
    The reason I do this is because of the mix-minus on the USB port so the people I'm chatting with will not get an echo of their voices.
    You could also, depending on your computer's audio inputs and outputs use the TRRS connection with a dual TRS to TRRS connection as well with a couple of ground loop isolaters.

    I currently have a Canon 80D and use the Canon utility to hook it up as my web cam. Then I use my Ride Video Mic Pro hooking it up to my laptop via the headphone/microphone jack. Then I have a couple of smaller Neewer Led lights set up (one on my desk as they have short stands and the other with a colored gel at the other side of the room behind me bouncing off the wall). This stepped up my game during Zoom calls not to mention all the comments I get. It also uses equipment I've used for my own RUclips channel (other than I don't use my studio lights because those are way too big). Also I use my Gorilla Pod for my camera because it raises it right above my laptop monitor right where the Webcam would be. This gives me a two in one setup for both types of video media that I do (RUclips and Zoom).

Love your setup and it explains how the techy CEOs look so good. Second, I followed the links to check the prices of the "basic desk setup" and woah. This is a super awesome professional setup, and also good for someone who already has some of this equipment and is re-purposing it. However, would you be willing to do a follow-up where you do the best budget webcam upgrade? Like how does it compare to get a string of LED lights from Amazon and either a "nice" webcam or a used DSLR with video and how does that compare to your setup?

    for the eye line problem, I decided to get a super inexpensive teleprompter, I put a cheap monitor on it, mirrored the output so it shows up properly on the prompter and then I can literally look at the camera and see the audience. I use this for zoom calls CONSTANTLY (i'm an it consultant so i have lots of video meetings, but i also do live streaming on my own). I use a panasonic g7 (used ~$350) m43 4k camera with a camlink 4k, and for switching and mixing it looks like you're using a rodecaster pro which is a really nice visceral hands-on experience but it's like $600 (which is probably fantastic if your business relies on doing this stuff every day and you make money with it but I can't afford that), most streaming folks go with something like a goxlr and/or a streamdeck. Personally I use a zoom h4n pro (~200, usb powered can also be used portably with a usb battery or 4x aa batteries)) handy recorder as a 2-input xlr audio interface with a very inexpensive htdz ht-81 ($50) shotgun microphone (which is $50), plug my sony mdr-v6 studio monitor headphones (~$80) into the recorder so i can hear myself in real time AND it acts as an output for desktop audio so i can hear people in zoom/webex. - for switching, streaming, and recording I use OBS studio and administer it with touch portal ( www.touch-portal.com/ ) which basically does what the streamdeck does but it's only $13 perpetually and has a FANTASTIC dev community and supports doing keyboard macros, can be linked to autohotkey for amazing macro and scripting support, has direct obs support, has plugins for voicemeter (which is a great free software audio tool chain for more advanced audio routing and control), and can basically control all the things with a really nice visual scripting editor and it works on ios or android devices (I personally use my old nexus 10 tablet when i do streams) and you can make the layout whatever you want too from 4 giant buttons to 105 tiny buttons doing different things, supports pages like the streamdeck too, but i think it's an unlimited number of them and you can link from page to page from within pages to make life a bit simpler. it's fantastic software (particularly for $13 when I think the functionality is better than streamdeck and streamdeck is $100 for the smallest 3x2 setup, $160 for 3x5, or !!$250!! for the 4x8 model. no hate to streamdeck, it works great, but it's WICKED overpriced when you could pay way less to use the phone/tablet you have already. there IS a phone/tablet version of streamdeck too called streamdeck mobile, but they want to charge you $25/yr. not $25 as in almost double touch portal, but $25 A YEAR when touchportal is $13 once and i haven't found something that streamdeck can do that touchportal can't yet.) anyway, sorry about the streamdeck rant. the real magic of the show is OBS Studio. it's free, and it gives you pretty much everything you get in a tv broadcast van for hundreds of thousands of dollars in terms of video switching, audio switching, audio routing, plugins to do whatever you want with your video and audio including but not limited to chroma key, audio compression, full multiple input multiple output source layout control, works with pretty much any kind of input or video or browser source you can throw at it, it's incredibly well documented, and I've personally donated to the project and think it's really worthwhile if you use their stuff and want to throw them a few bills, I recommend it. it's fantastic and open source too, if you're a developer and you want to add new features, you totally can. it's great.

  • @jasonthompson2059

    For those not looking to spend a fortune - main takeaway is if you have a dslr/mirrorless camera that has a clean HDMI out and want to use it for zoom/ms Teams: get an HDMI capture card (Elgato cam link is great but there are cheaper options, check reviews!) and a light (Godox sl60w or even an amaran Al-M9 or something similar, even just a normal lamp will help)... A good mic that has USB so you don't need a converter box is the Blue Yeti or Snowball mic - they just plug right into your computer. That will get you looking and sounding pretty good for less than $400 (assuming you have a camera) cheers For me, the video was great - I'm looking to move to that level (minus two rodecasters and bmcc lol)

    Thanks for the tip with the clamp!
    Been using a ZV-01 as a webcam for ages (looks amazing, and get complimented frequently on the webcam lol) but just had it mounted under the monitor on a mini-tripod, and it always looks like you're not looking at people. I've also found it copes pretty well with lighting, just using a couple of computer monitors that are usually on anyway!
    I'm using a dirt cheap USB capture card off Ebay, but I think the ZV-01 (and I think the RX cams, but I'm not sure) is meant to be getting an app that will allow it to capture over USB.
