      Try rotating your feet out little by little. It will force your glutes to fire in the squat and allow space in the hip joint to sit deeper with your hips instead of pushing your knees forward to get depth.

    • @vikingstrongman5903
      @vikingstrongman5903 5 лет назад

      Way different. Supposedly on a box you take the pressure of a certain tendon in your knee making it safer. Plus you recover faster squatting on a box.

    • @yaywoot123
      @yaywoot123 4 года назад

      box squat makes the lift even more hamstring dominant.. then you have to get off the box in that "even more hamstring dominant" position.. which takes more than leg drive, but big time hip extension/hammy curl action.. not to mention keeping the external rotation of the hips the entire time..
      it is an extremely difficult lift to master (w/ a minuscule margin for error), but those that do reap the rewards..

    • @yaywoot123
      @yaywoot123 4 года назад +1

      @@jefferylord3068 it's a box squat .. not simply "squatting to a box"
      if someone with a close(r) stance, traditional quad dominant squat moved that "little", you'd be onto something.. but this is a hamstring/hip dominant movement and far, far more difficult than most (probably all) squat variations.. don't criticize that which you don't understand / haven't tried (properly).. and not for nothing, but the man you are criticizing is a powerlifting god

    • @jefferylord3068
      @jefferylord3068 4 года назад +1

      Michael G , I appreciate your input and i am actually going to look into this type of training a little more, i think the op was referencing the extreme width of foot stance, and i agree on that point.

    • @yaywoot123
      @yaywoot123 4 года назад +2

      @@jefferylord3068 wider makes the movement more hip dominant (external rotation).. this will be far more difficult for the average lifter, but easier for those that train it.. wider being "easier for everyone" is a misconception as most lifters have too weak of hips to attain depth in a wide stance.. it's (the external rotation) more of a muscle control weakness than pure strength weakness, but the point remains
      this is why so many that attempt sumo either end up pulling wide stance conventional, or simply try and squat the weight with no real technique (which will not work with real weight)
      wide stance box squat w/ bands as chuck v is doing at that point in the video, is arguably the hardest lift on the planet.. with those types of weights, i'd argue it is * the * toughest lift.. if you do play around with this type of training (which everyone should IMO), start light with a box above parallel, and make sure you keep a vertical shin.
