The TUDOR Black Bay in the collection is another example of TUDOR's expert command of one of the industry's most demanding standards in terms of chronometry and resistance to magnetic fields. Tested by the Federal Institute of Metrology or METAS, the Black Bay brings together cutting-edge watchmaking technology with design elements inspired by TUDOR’s nearly seven-decade heritage of making robust professional diving watches.
KEY POINTS
1. “Original” Black Bay proportions of a 41mm case in stainless steel with a 60-minute unidirectional black bezel with silver accents
2. Subtly domed satin radial-brushed black dial with silver accents
3. “Snowflake” hands, a hallmark of TUDOR divers’ watches introduced in 1969, with Grade A Swiss Super-LumiNova® luminescent material
4. Manufacture Calibre MT5602-U, certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), with a silicon hairspring and a 70-hour power reserve
5. A choice between a stainless steel 3-link “rivet-style” or 5-link bracelet or a rubber strap, all with TUDOR “T-fit” rapid adjustment clasp
6. Master Chronometer certified by METAS
7. Five-year transferable guarantee, with no registration or periodic maintenance checks required
With the introduction of this brand-new Black Bay, TUDOR has successfully submitted yet another model for tests to obtain Master Chronometer certification. This is part of a constant bid to improve the quality of its products and another step towards a future where the entire TUDOR collection will be Master Chronometer certified. This certification, offered by a Swiss government body, METAS, requires a substantial number of changes to a regular TUDOR Manufacture Calibre and comes as an independent confirmation of the exceptional quality of the TUDOR watches.
www.metas.ch/m...
COMPREHENSIVE INDEPENDENT CERTIFICATION AND HIGH STANDARDS
METAS Master Chronometer certification is comprehensive and covers the main functional characteristics of a watch including precision, resistance to magnetic fields, waterproofness and power reserve. Its standards are incredibly high, starting with precision. In order to qualify, a watch must be able to function within a 5-second range of variation each day (0/+5), that is to say 5 seconds less than the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) (-4/+6) carried out on uncased movements and a second less than TUDOR's internal standard (-2/+4), which is applied to the brand's models with a Manufacture Calibre. The certification also guarantees the timekeeping accuracy of a watch subjected to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss. Finally, it also guarantees the waterproofness claimed by the manufacturer as well as the power reserve. It should also be noted that two prerequisites are necessary before the certification can be obtained: Swiss manufacturing must conform with the criteria of Swiss Made, and the movement must be certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).
CRITERIA AND TESTS FOR METAS CERTIFICATION
All the tests and prerequisites leading to the Master Chronometer certification, which the Black Bay has achieved, are summarised below:
− Swiss Made
− Certification by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC)
− Precision at two temperatures, in six positions and at two levels of power reserve: 100% and 33%
− Smooth functioning when exposed to a magnetic field of 15,000 gauss and precision following exposure
− Waterproof to 200m (660 ft)
− 70-hour power reserve

They should shrink it down to 40mm and 11.7mm thickness. Put it exclusively on the Jubilee. Then, same watch with a date, but exclusively on the oyster. Sell the rubber just separately. Plus, i think they should hire me for these ideas.
Wow, you’re a real innovator. So you basically just want the submariner then.
@@mr.t8369 No. I want the 5 digit Submariner with a 5 digit GMT caseback on a Jubilee. And i want it to spell TUDOR on the dial.
@@-Medici aaaaannnd a JLC movement for good measure perhaps?
@@mr.t8369 I couldn't care less. They can shove a Seagull in there, if it's slim and silent.
No reason for it to be 13.6mm thick. The new GMT is significantly thinner at 12.8mm thick, is still a Master Chronometer and has more going on in the movement and similar price. Doesn’t make sense. Still a lovely looking watch….but no reason it couldn’t have been even better for same price.
Agreed pretty ridiculous. I could do without the boxed crystal as well
I guess lil brother needed to make sure that they dont step on Big Brother’s toes? Making the news Metas 41mm Blackbay at 12+mm thick would have made it competitive to the Submariner.
Agree - thickness is a dealbreaker
@@GrumblingForesight Yeah, I think you’re spot on. Can’t make it too close to a Rolex Sub!
Great content as always Alexander 👍 Looking forward to more Watches & Wonders content from you.
Great overview. I think this monochromatic version will have the slow-release charm 👌🏻
They’ve clearly got thin enough movements to make these far thinner. However, I guess lil brother had to make sure that they didnt step on big brother’s toes. Making the new 41mm METAS Blackbay with 12mm+ case thickness would have made it compete head to head with the modern Submariner.
Exactly what I was thinking. New METAS GMT is thinner…. So like you say, I wonder if it’s just a case of keeping Tudor models on a leash so they don’t become a better value/spec proposition compared to Rolex models
The jubilee version looks nice
My favorite in term of bracelet
good!beautiful 美しいです
which one is your favorite?
jubilee! I can’t wait to see it.
Really great watch with a fair price on it! Waiting for the Ranger with METAS certification!
I think sooner or later all mechanical Tudor watches will be METAS certified
@@WatchAdvisor Yeah, I'm sure with that! It's the next step of Tudor's evolution in developing great watches and I'm very happy that they keeping the price on an adequate level.
Thanks. Still no subtle crown guards lol
????
@@WatchAdvisor why don't they add crown guards to this "tool" watch?
@@zer0875 What would be the difference? If you are able to break the crown without crown guard… you would have also destroyed the watch with crown guard…
@WatchAdvisor it's more of a slight nudge really - it does happen. The watch is circa 4.5k dollars - so it should really have one.
@@zer0875 A crown once was a fragile part of the watch… since many years though a crown guard is no longer necessary… IWC never had those and they once told me that this (also in the past) never was a problem and there were/are no issues … So you are claiming a design and not a technical detail to be corrected… Well … tastes are different…
Hi Alexander, how would you compare this model to the Omega seamaster 300m?
You shouldn’t compare them … Omega plays in another league and must be compared to Rolex… But both are excellent watches … you should primarily let your heart take the decision … How? If you can wear/compare them 1:1 on your wrist in different light conditions… then let your heart decide it won’t lie… Please keep us posted!
Is the bezel ceramic?
No aluminum
@wutang2549 l wish Tudor made it ceramic bezel and crown protector.
@@weeleung6043 Me too, but that's the no-date sub! They aren't going to do anything that will compete DIRECTLY with it's big brother.
@@weeleung6043 I prefer aluminum.
Screw down locking crown?
Yes
How’s weight?
I don’t know
Shaky table..
I had to sit on the floor to film these… and we had to improvise with the tables … we put one couch table on top of the other to be able to film on a higher “platform”…. That’s life at Watches and Wonders… 😉
Thanks Alexander, Tudor is still booring
Why? What’s missing?

Best content of the show as usual - no hype and tons of detail 👏
Thanks for the wonderful feedback! I am glad you like what we do…
Thank you for the thorough coverage Alexander! You are the best.
The best possible content for the best audience in the world… 😉
Really makes you question why you’d pay £4k more for Sub now this is out.
I quickly decided a couple years ago that I can't see any reason to buy Rolex anymore. I wanted a field watch and went to my ad and tried on an explorer and a ranger side by side and even though the explorer was a sharper (fancier) looking watch, I couldn't see paying almost 3 times more for a watch that wasn't 3 times nicer. My next watch I have been saving for was a new no date sub and now that I see this, there is no way I will be buying the sub. I simply love the jubilee on this and the Tfit is the most impressive part.
You are paying 3k for the name Rolex. I think this Tudor looks better than anything from Rolex and arguably performs just as well at least. Tudor is for real watch fans. Rolex are for one watch collection guys who want to flex and bang on about how it's an investment lol
Tudor and Rolex are worlds apart in materials and build quality. Rolex created Tudor for a reason. I always think it’s hilarious when people make these comparisons and go on about how Tudor is as good or better than Rolex. Just pure ignorance.
4k more for a ceramic bezel. 😂 Which is a turnoff for many people.
Agreed, less chance to get mugged as well. Quality is insane
A perfect watch for those who can't get a Submariner from their ADs.
It's a nice watch, but it's way too thick for a diver. I guess they didn't want to make it too nice, otherwise big brother Rolex would complain.
Wow u speak my mind !!!
Sorry to tell you guys but this one is on the thin side of the dividers…
I’d prefer the Pelagos 39 over this.
I’m getting the Tudor black bay 41mm black dial on oyster bracelet
How long do you have to wait?
Absolutely incredible value proposition Tudor Sub 🔥
Yessssss!
Great Sub-stitute for me 😂
very clever!!
Tudor is a little boring these days compared to a few years ago with the P01 and Monte Carlo chrono but you just know these watches will be a solid, reliable daily driver. Exactly what you need from a watch like this. For the price, not a lot would beat it. Nice watch.
I get there are lots of BB fans in all the various GMT, chrono, etc. options. For me Pelagos is the only full realization of their design and I wish they would give that line the breadth they give this.
Watch community is so corny. What do you expect. This is a solid release which will be sold like hot cake. They don’t give a f**k about the small community of watch freaks like us.
Interesting how it’s beginning to look more and more like a Rolex especially when you showed the side view. My thoughts are that Tudor will eventually take over in S/S while Rolex will focus on precious metal. Thanks as always Alexander for your great videos.👍
My absolute ceiling for lug to lug is 47mm. I wonder if they'll release a 39?
Great coverage (again) Thank-you Alexander!
Handsome watch, but still slab sided.
Absolutely stunning 💚 Best part is not only the price but not getting insulted when you go inside the boutique to ask for one 😅
Once you ask for one … Keep us posted please…
I love the new Tudor black bay 41 back dial it’s beautiful
Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful watches. I have the burgundy version. Thank you for the quality video. All the best.
Tudor hitting it out the park! Almost on par with Omega! Not quite but close!
Lol no and it's not meant to be. Tudor is a mid range watch
Well said!
In build quality definitely a threat- but the luxury elements and finishing are quite behind, but thats not Tudors game anyhow
Alexander - do you know if these watches have anti reflective coating on the out side of the crystal ?
Only on the inside… that’s a Rolex/Tudor standard…
A Rose is a Rose is a Rose.
Same goes for divers, GMTs or tux shirts.
There's no point in using words like "innovation", "revolutionary" etc. when discussing watches that are of a pre-existing type.
There may be good craftmanship and neat execution to be admired, but that's it.
13.6 is unacceptable for a time only watch.
But hey it's a STEAL at $4k. They are stealing your money 💰 for an unremarkable mass produced not really inhouse movement with zero inhouse heritage. I scratch my head how a COSC Longines with an added GMT complications and 100 years more heritage and history of innovation sells for 30% less than a basic 3 hand Tudor with boiled chicken and bland rice dial.
Why?
Such beautiful watches. I think this is going to be my next must-have before the end of 2024.
Thanks for your feedback and for sharing your passion with us! Please keep us posted…

Thank you very much indeed

TUDOR
My favorite watches
You are very welcome
No doubt these are well built, but my god they are boring to look at. I've seen this same looking watch for many, many years made by many brands. To just have a black dial means it's almost indistinguishable from almost every other dive watch out there. I mean, did anybody think that it's the richer cousin of a Casio Duro? Doubtless it's an outstanding watch and it will sell well, but everyone will be selling it for something new in about 2-3 years.
It’s a classic / timeless design. Why would people who buy it sell it in a few years?
@@user-bf3ep8tg4k because they see it everywhere. It’s not unique. It looks like a timex, or a Casio. Or the Erebus. I could go on. There is nothing wrong with it, don’t get me wrong. It just doesn’t have staying power because there is nothing different about it to keep the owner interested in it. Even the original 58 looks better just because it has some unique colouration- a little “eye candy”. This is just very plain. Feel free to disagree with me though. Everyone has different tastes. I just think overall this one lacks imagination.
Tudors are really nice. A lot of people are complaining about the thickness. I have 6.25 inch wrists and the thickness of the black bay and the pro did not bother me when I tried them on at the boutique. Specs on the internet are just a guide you have to try watches on and see if it works for you. On the plus side people can now buy a metas certified diver that has a tapered bracelet. 😂😂
Love your humor!!! Thanks for sharing your passion with us….
They didn't seem to read their audience on colours and what they want. Thus only took 7 years and then they make the BB58 GMT in a colour most dont like compared to the larger BB version.
Pelegos titanium is their best watch, put the GMT in that, straight black and white, or blue colouring and makes it a watch no other brand has. It is what the BBpro should have been.
Would be huge.
Love it. Timeless design that i would never tire of. On the jubilee its close to perfect. Maybe 39/40mm for absolute perfection.
They have pelagos 39 … bb54… pelagos fxd black… too many watches in the same league …. fighting with each others… bb58 gmt on the other hand…. That’s a winner
THANK YOU...watchadvisor = reliability
Thanks for sharing our passion!
Boring, safe and plain. About as exciting as an egg carton
One day I’m gonna get my Tudor black bay 41 mm black on the oyster bracelet
Thanks for sharing your passion with us! We keep our fingers crossed 🤞🏻
Will sell my current Black Bay 41 for this model. I just adore the no guilt dial and the Metas movement
That's really impressive! I'd definitely consider buying it if I didn't already own the 114060. It would have been great if they made the BB GMT Coke without the gilded details. But who knows what they'll come up with next. P.S. WA is hands down the best watch content creator on RUclips! Congrats Alexander!
I think The best of Watches & Wonders 2024 is Zenith!
The Submariner for the people 🇨🇳 😂
Wut u mean?
That will be san martin/pagani surely lol 🇨🇳
I’d go for rubber because the clasp is brushed as opposed to shiny on the others.
The case is just too thick. I wish they made it with the 39mm dimensions and thinned it up.
Depends on your wrist size. I'm just over a 7" wrist and it's perfect.
Thank you for the video! It looks popular but a bit boring.
It still looks a bit too thick. I wish the new ones would be as slim like the BB54.
It's so weird that you skipped Zenith, the best new models at watches& wonders 2024! How could you not have discovered the first Zenith Defy diver watches and chronograph watches!
Watches and Wonders only started yesterday… How can you therefore know if we plan to or did skip Zenith? Before you write such a nonsense please think twice…
Still too thick but oh so close to perfection!!! 😢
How thin should it be?
@@WatchAdvisoras thin as my 5 digit submariner, or they should at least hide more of the thickness in the caseback (like Rolex) rather than the mid case. Just my opinion!
@@WatchAdvisor
The mid 12s will be perfect 👌
It has domed crystal so its like 12.6
Looks like my 124060's little brother. 13,6mm thickness though. Oof.
The METAS certification is a direct call out to Omega. Looks like Wilsdorf Foundation will set little T as a direct competitor to Omega and keep Rolex in the ring with Patek, Audemars and Vacheron.
Careful Rolex. You might slip.
Rolex doesn't come near Patek.
@@dane4453 I don't give a F about Patek. I only want Rolex to take some Ls so I can get them on a sweet discount

Wow!! Another black dial black bezel diver from Tudor! Haven't seen this look from them. Oh wait...Pelagos, bb54, fxd....bahahaha 😅 They really putting their creative minds to use.
can we agree that the oyster is the best
If they got rid of the fake rivets yes. Maybe you could put a Ranger bracelet on it? Now I would go for Jubilee as it tapers in a more natural way.
@@HJ-vs7lf Fake rivets forever 👍🏾
my only downside with these watches, the amount of polished areas…..😢….
Every little scratch adds some patina to the watch...
Still with the very long clasp
I like their BB58 GMT a little more, but this is also a good one for sure. Do you know if the case of the 58 GMT is the same as the BB58 divers? A lot of after market bracelets for the BB58 and the BB that don’t have the faux rivets.
Looks like the 5 digit submarine, lovely looking, shame about the brand and snowflake hand, but there are cheaper homages out there closer to original look.
I really like the new look, with fewer lines of text on the dial (although I´ll never understand the need for the depth rating, as if anyone ever read it),
the T fit and Metas. Looking forward to a blue version with blue lume, then I´ll buy one :).
OMG....this marks a new all time high, a virtual zenith in how much work and craftsmanship and cutting edge engineering that you can devote to the watch world's most boring dial.
What do you expect? Can you specify?
@WatchAdvisor John Goldberger has a book with over 100 superlative Rolex dials that Tudor could use for inspiration for a line of not boring as watching paint dry Black Bay dials. These new Black Bay dials are nothing but clones of Rolex dials but with a strange edict that they can only use snowflake hands across the whole Black Bay line. Even on their heritage homage 58 which didn't have a snowflake originally? Huh? Why don't you paint a mustachio on the Mona Lisa while your making a reproduction Tudor. What's the point of limiting the design options for a lower price watch line that is supposed to appeal to an exponentially larger audience? Look at Grand Seiko and how many interesting dial variations they have to pull in a larger audience for their not ridiculously priced watches. Value and variety? UNACCEPTABLE!! Meanwhile Tudor is like Henry Ford when he was selling the Model T, "you can have any color car you want as long as it's black".
@@porscheoscar Thanks for clarifying and sharing your passion with us!!!
@@porscheoscar speak for yourself mate. This is basically a vintage style sub and exactly what I’m looking for. I'm not a Tudor fan but I have to admit the ratio quality price is really nice. As the big brother is slowly moving away from making watch to make jewelry, it's really a great alternative
Value for the money - yes!!!!
The best of Watches & Wonders 2024 is Zenith!
excellent video Alexander.....just one question...why is this 3 hander thicker vs the new BB58 GMT?
I don’t know why there is that tiny difference …
I had a chance to try this piece on yesterday and think it’s excellent.
The dial aperture does seem a bit disproportionately small for the overall size of the watch. Maybe curve of the sapphire reduces the sense of dial width?
Thanks for sharing your personal experiences!
*Have they previously used non functioning watches at W.A.W.? Was there a time when they never did that?*
