    thanks for this video for inspiration! I had some 1 month old FPP e-6 chems laying around but the developer was totally exhausted. I used hc-110 dilution A for my first developer and it actually worked! I don't have to pay $15 + shipping for more first developer every time I wanna develop a batch of e-6

      My pleasure! That's awesome that you were able to substitute the first developer, good job!!

      Do the CD and BLIX not exhaust the same as the FD?

    Very good sir! As someone who values content over “quality”, I’m inspired. In my opinion that’s great quality! I’m filming my kids and grandkids as much as possible this summer and this gives me a bit more confidence in using my Ektachrome stock. Thanks again for another informative and helpful video about home film processing!

    Hello Michael! Looking great. The old E100D had lush greens, blues and skin tones, not so hot with reds and yellows. This is beautifully reflected here, even with your cross processing. You might have a trifle overcompensated for that magenta shift. No problem. I love the dreamy atmosphere. Looking fantastic on my cell phone, very clean, will rewatch on my PC when I'm back home. Looks like the frame rate is a bit messed up, 18fps inside a 30fps video? It would be awesome if you could fix that. Just my usual rant LoL. Please keep em coming!

      @Filmboy24  Год назад

      Thanks, Christian!! Yes, I definitely think I overdid a couple things during grading. It was a nightmare with the magenta in the highlights and lowlights. I don't really see the frame rate issue, but it does get wonky sometimes when you have an 18 FPS clip nested in a 24 FPS video timeline :)

      @@Filmboy24 The colors are actually very good here on my PC at 1440p. Just a little too much yellow, that's all. Of course the highlights blow out easily, because of the scanner. The results of your cross processing are fantastic. Much less harsh than what I have seen so far from other people. Yes, the frame rate is sometimes a bit bumpy because of the 18fps inside 24fps (I confess I skipped over parts of your explanations and went straight to the good stuff), at least there is no annoying frame blending. Good! My humble suggestion: shoot at 24fps. I look forward to footage featuring your daughters. Thank me in 10 years!!!

    Your film is very impressive for an entirely DIY development and scan.
    I think you have all but figured out here, I can't wait for you to try some Ektachrome 160 with this process.
    It was smart to give your wife some 50D it normally produces stellar results, it will be fun to see the results.
    You are getting me interested in shooting more color just for a change of pace .

    I'm not a movie shooter, but I have a bunch of "old Ektachrome" in 120 (as well as a few rolls of the new E100 and a 10-sheet box of it in 4x5) and I've been trying to avoid having to buy a full E-6 kit to process it (since I shoot slowly and the kit would go bad between rolls one and three). I did buy a Cinestill E-6 color developer; my plan was to use my regular Xtol as first dev, Cinestill (self-reversing) color dev, and then C-41 bleach and fixer (since I have that anyway for my replenished Flexicolor). I think Cinestill sells an ECN-2 developer as well -- saves me finding and buying the chemicals, but still lots cheaper than a full E-6 kit (even the simplified three-bath sort).

      @Filmboy24  Год назад

      I know exactly what you mean. I still have a few rolls of Ektachrome 100D and the issue is, I don't shoot them very often. Like you, I don't want to waste money of E-6 kits when I know I likely won't get full use out of it (done that many times). I love being able to whip up a batch of chemicals on demand, so satisfying 🤣

    Fantastic result I think with a small amount of refining you have cracked it.
    Especially as film and processing is getting so expensive (in the UK)

    I also saw this process on the channel The Attic Darkroom, but he didn’t get stellar results. Yours look amazing though!

    Pretty nice results for an alternative process. Seems that greens are saturated, red is lacking, blue could be better, did not see much yellow, so I can't say much. Grain is high, but was it caused by the developing or by the scan? Can the process be tweaked to better results? I imagine it can be done. Great work, keep the coming. Greeting from Bogota, Colombia.

    • @Filmboy24
      @Filmboy24  Год назад

      Thank you!! Yes, definitely a lot more tweaking that could have been done on the colors. It can be daunting sometimes trying to bring out one color, while maintaining another, especially with old film like this, and with an alternative process. I may mess with it some more just for practice.

  • @MarksPhoto

    Would be nice to see a sample of the uncorrected film, what the process actually produced. Good to see some experiments. I'd definitely try the 160, what do you have to lose with found film?

    • @Filmboy24
      @Filmboy24  Год назад

      Thank you, Mark!! I thought about this while editing, however, since my scanner software corrected a lot during the initial scan, I didn't have a full, uncorrected shot. I may scan it again as it and throw a couple photos up on my 'Community' tab. I have a freezer full of "new" Ektachrome 160, I think I definitely see an experiment on the horizon!!

    Very good results by the looks at it. Forgive me i know very little about processing film. But could these chemicals be of any use to procesd kodachrome.k40 etc? Would you even get any colour out of of kodachrome film? Or is it totally diff chemicals you use? Been watching a few of your fillns and on the understanding you can only get it process in b/w now.

    • @Filmboy24
      @Filmboy24  Год назад

      Thanks, Russell!! Unfortunately, nothing really works on Kodachrome for color. There are no color couplers in the emulsion layers of Kodachrome, so they must be added during the developing process. It's a very difficult one and has never been successfully duplicated since it was discontinued.

    With a bit of color correction in post im sure you wont be able to tell any difference but projecting with a incandescent bulb might work best (halogen is a more cooler tone than incandescent)
