I personally prefer Renji but Byakuya is great too😁😁 tho I have to be honest it took me years to warm up to byakuya because of how he decimated Renji when they fought back into the SS arc 😭 my fave moment was during the first invasion when Byakuya was facing As Nodt as brutal as that fight was it rlly showed how much they’ve grown together
I love how genuine and expressive this history/overview video is. Thank you for talking so passionately about Byakuya and (my favorite of the two) Renji, but especially their fight against each other in soul society which is my favorite moment from them.
The division represents order, strict adherence to tradition and the rules and yet, with Ichigo's direct influence the two main leaders of it have learned to subvert said rules to do what is right. Be it Byakuya authorizing Rukia and Renji joining Ichigo's rescue mission to Hueco Mundo based on a loophole, or Renji himself ultimately being the rogue dog of the division for his friends and now family. Order and tradition with a twist.
Both Byakuya and Renji are among my favorite characters, and I'll always have a soft spot for Renji especially. I think it is his undying loyalty that really sells him, the size of his heart and the passion he puts into everything. Yeah, he's uncultured, rash, loud and a bit of a numbskull at times, but he is among the most pure of heart and soul in my eyes. Gives me heavy adopted street dog vibes, and I adore it.

Fitting considering his role as the eldest brother and duty to always protect, he constantly puts everything on his shoulders that he's never really had someone to rely on. Of course, he has friends he trusts with his life and always has his back, but prior to the Fullbring Arc, he is always the protector, never the protected. You know what I really like about this division is that both characters care for Rukia more than anyone else (imo), but because of their station BOTH (including Renji) are held back from their desire to help her and become the progression points for Ichigo who doesn't care about station but what he thinks is right. I don't think he cared for Rukia more than Renji or Byakuya, but his sense of justice was more than either.
I just think he (Ichigo) wasn't chained by the traditions and laws and expectations in the soul society. Also, Ichigo is 15/16... Not any where near the age of the other two, and not familiar with their strict adherence to laws and tradition that they've been engulfed in for over a century each.
That's honestly the best part of Ichigo's interactions with both. Renji and Byakuya both (moreso Byakuya for obvious reasons) kinda want to maintain the status quo of the soul society and stop the invasion by the group and I really think that's what ichigo disliked about how things went down. Here he is indebted to rukia for saving his family and then these 2 come along and call for her execution which Ichigo cannot abide by. Especially Byakuya since it's his sister that's on the chopping block. Family means everything to ichigo so there's no way possible he could comprehend somebody being okay with what was happening. That's why it was really jarring to him that Byakuya was so adamant about stopping him. Which is why he basically says screw your stupid traditions if it means execution for somebody that saved his family

Ichigo just standing there listening made it all the more powerful. He usually jumps in but in that moment all he could do was just stand there. To him Byakuya was there seconds away from death as far as he knew (I mean not surprising given how Byakuya looked) and it was almost like he didn't want to interrupt. Another moment that I really like is the one they share with the 11th against Yammy. I love the elegance with which Byakuya redirected his attack aimed at Zaraki in order to target Yammy. The choreography of the two captains, who launched full blown attacks against each other respectively, and redirecting them with such ease... I think that was done wonderfully as well. This is more visible in the anime. I'm very fond of Byakuya - Kenpachi rivalry and it's too bad it hasn't been expanded upon in the canon.
As usual, excellent work, especially with probably the most prominent division in the story. Byakuya always struck me as the epitome of the Soul Society's model warrior as well, and probably one of the best samurai in anime (without technically being called a samurai). The video actually made me realize there's another way to look at him and Renji. Byakuya's the well-bred classical samurai while Renji's actually more of a peasant samurai/Ashigaru, albeit one who rose through the ranks to gain his superior's respect and vice versa. I always loved the subtle theme of class division and personal feelings vs. duty that the Sixth Division went through, it was one of the best arcs in the series.
Honestly my favorite division but not by a long shot and it has my favorite character of the series in it being Byakuya. I just like that both Byakuya and Renji both were featured a lot and that Byakuya goes from a stickler for the rules and regulations to being slightly less like that later on but his development as a character in general is what I like the most and it's because of Ichigo's influence. When you look at soul society Byakuya and then see how he is when he fights Tsukishima it makes me really happy. One of my favorite lines of his in the series is when he says to Tsukishima "I cannot to begin to repay the debts I owe you. Such is my gratitude. However- you are an enemy of Kurosaki Ichigo. Debt or not.....I feel no remorse in cutting you down" When he said that it was amazing
You a question I would like answered? What made Byakuya pick Renji as his VC if you just look at Soul Society arc and his previous encounters before then. The only answer I see is Renji's strong sense of loyalty and something that canon and filler paint specs of is Byakuya always was a rebel and free thinker at heart but killed that side of him a long time ago and sees that in Renji.
The moment that Byakuya stepped between his sister and Gin's zanpaktou shocked me. I have to say, I despised Byakuya. After what he had allowed to almost happen to his sister, I didn't expect anything out of Byakuya. For that reason, I never really trusted him until the Zommari battle, with Rukia's physical and mental well-being as a priority for him. Even after he saved her, I felt like he could turn it all off on a dime. I was surprised at how forgiving Rukia was to Byakuya. It inspires me to be kinder to those who annoy me.
The passion is booming and the voice is going in this vid lol. Amazing video, it never fails to wrench my heart when watching Byakuya fight Tsukishima for Ichigo.
The time he picked his broken sword to unleash his bankai against Tsukishima, that is so epic. I love that scene. I was amazed when Byakuya used his bankai with a broken sword.
So, basically Byakuya is a better friend to Ichigo than Chad and Inoue, in his own way. I’m saying that, because they actually stood against Ichigo on Tsukishima’s side when he used his abilities on them. Previously I didn’t like Byakuya a lot, but after this video I may change my mind. Thanks for that.
I cant remember if it happens in the manga or not, but in the Anime at the resolution of the soul society arc Ichigo pops in to check on Byakuya and Renji and him are discussing everything that happend. Then Ichigo pops in through the window or something and basically treats Byakuya very casually and like a friend. Then when Ichigo leaves, Byakuya asks Renji if hes going to continue calling him by his 1st name. I always loved this moment, it was the 1st time all 3 of them were together and not trying to kill each other if I recall correctly.
Favourite 6th Division character (and probably favourite of the entire series) is easily Byakuya. In terms of favourite moments with him, you can't go wrong with the "you're slow, even when you're falling" moment.
Loved this analysis! The 6th is my second favorite division - I was looking forward to this video so much! 💕 I truly believe that Renji and Byakuya have grown so much in the series - to the point that now they are real friends - and it's so touching how Renji shows this in the final arc 👍
Renji making that statement in the TYBW is like he finally found the lid of his filled jar and put it on. Also him telling that to Ichigo is like "lol fuck you IchiRuki fans" and i love it.
It never made a lot of sense to me why Byakuya would have wanted or accepted Renji as his lieutenant for the reasons you highlighted at the beginning of the vid. I think what would have been cool is if the original vice captain had died or been lost (maybe Ashido?) and Byakuya refused to accept a new one. No one was “dignified” or “law-abiding” enough or whatever out of his options, and everyone he considered worthy of the role was committed to their division. So then, Renji is the 3rd seat of the division and acts as the lieutenant like Kiyone and Sentaro over in the 13th division, and he clearly is at an appropriate power level to be lt, but Byakuya refuses to promote him to the role, and Renji refuses to leave for the same reasons he already had. It could be a whole running joke where everyone is giving him shit for just being a 3rd seat even though he’s low-captain level in terms of power since he’s just shy of achieving bankai. Then, after the soul society ark, after Renji shows his devotion is at the same level as Byakuya’s that he would achieve bankai and attack his captain out of sheer devotion to Rukia, and Byakuya has his slight change of heart after Ichigo/White beats him, Byakuya finally gives him the promotion to lt.
I do like how the Tsukishima fight with Byakuya kind of mirrors the Ichigo vs Byakuya fight where Byakuya puts aside his personal feelings for a greater goal in that second case because soul society Law and in the first you are Ichigo Kurosaki enemy also like how it takes until they are alone for Renji to admit why he has Ichigo back so hard after soul society
@@AzoozBg Remember him Kira and momo were part of the advanced class. He told rukia in the flash back she was going to get left in the dust if she didn't improve.
It's between 6th and 11th for sure. I argue for 11 though seeing as they were the first to support ichigo and they are the only division where the seat positions actually matters edit: also the division with the most filled out history
The correct pronunciation for Camelia, is Kha-mee-lee-a. That's also the flower that gave us green tea, and was a representation of the bounty the gods bestowed upon us.
Kubo's commentary on class and authoritarianism is very well exemplified with Byakuya and that he kinda a became a useful idiot for real evil. To me one of the main factors as to why Aizen got away with so much bullshit is because of people like Byakuya and his mindset. One of my favourite small moments with him is when he clashed with Ichigo and then when he was about to use Senbonzakura on him, Yoruichi jumps in and seals it? with cloth and then calls him Little Byakuya kinda taking him down a peg there.Which they pay off later in TBTP. You really got the sense of how In Medias Res the narrative is
I really like Ichigo tbh his character is just like Goku! Ichigo like goku has the same characteristic property of influencing every around him even the worst of his enemies gain some feelings of respect for him just like Ulquiorra and even Aizen!
I've only ever seen the anime and just finally got around to reading the manga. Just finished the Soul Society arc! Yeah I noticed Rikichi and was also wondering if he ever did show up later in the story. I liked his character. I bet Mask de Masculine whipped the floor with him in the initial invasion?
It’s actually quite ironic that the tsubaki is the 6th division’s emblem, since no samurai family crest has ever used it. The tsubaki is considered to be very inauspicious for samurai because the flower falls to the ground as a whole, rather than petal by petal, signifying death by one stroke (or beheading). This is common knowledge in Japan, so I wonder what Kubo’s reasoning was to use it here.
Some of the best things in TYBW was that Renji's Bankai evolved from a clumsy Bone Snake and Byakuya could develope new ways to use his Shikai and Bankai.
You know what would have been awesome is if Chad got a new form and had a good fight in this arc. I have always thought that Chad would have a form for both of his arms. If not a form that fuses them and that didn’t happen sadly. All I’m saying is that Chad should have had a way bigger role.
I thought the women by the window during an injured byakuyas speech to ichigo was nanao even in the anime it seems like it’s her considering shunsui was fighting and got hurt to during that invasion but I’m not really sure
Even though Byakuya is of a noble family and up his own ass, he actually took in Rukia and Renji, two kids who grew up dirt poor in Rukongai. Considering how the Gotei 13 looks down on, and even genocides people like that, Byakuya taking these guys in shows he's always been protective of those less fortunate.
Just realized Renji and Byakuya are their serie's version of Kakashi and Might Guy. :D Or even better,Rock Lee and Neji.... Hmm, the latter duo works better.
I like the 5th division the most because I liked aizen mind games, Momo was best girl that was twisted and in love with a psycho and Shinji is a little off the wall and is awesome. I kind of wish we got a few panels with the 3 of them in the blood war would have been awesome
Wow your comment about Renji being one of the main characters and Byakuya being one of the side characters has me full on contemplating, how many characters can be considered main characters in Bleach, so far quite a few make the cut.
Well to be fair Renji is in the series way more than byakuya is. Which sucks cause he's my favorite character 😅 It honestly depends on what your definition of a main character is. Like I'd say Chad is damn near a side character since all he does is get his cheeks clapped and is irrelevant in a lot of the series but a lot of people consider him a main character. Honestly calling some of them side characters seems a bit harsh. I wish there was a way to describe characters that didn't call them "side" ones
@@darknesswave100 I think the term you are looking for to explain a character's place without saying "side character" is "ancillary character" or "supporting character", as for Chad though he got done dirty quite a bit he had a lot of screen time and was a member of a main faction in an arc, while also being present at many of the narratively important battles.
I think when most people count MCs in bleach it's Ichigo and his main group of friends so Ichigo Rukia Orihime Uryu Chad Renji Kubo seems to agree with this as well as these specific characters have the most consistent art drawn together hanging out and had thay group moment during the huec Mundo arc
@@texcorps9432 That's true but after thinking about the other of characters who also appear in that sense that includes characters like Kenpachi,Yoruichi, Mayuri, Urahara, Toshiro, even Byakuya skirts that line.
@@sternritternovad I'd consider everyone of them supporting secondary cast in the same vein as the konoha 11 or Gaara and other kages are to team 7 in naruto
I agree the SS arc is the best written. Just think back when u first saw it. It was so bad a seeing capt.s then their bankai for the first time. Just meeting char that u see their wildly different personalities but still had alot of mystery too. Then Arrancars arc was ok but felt like the same as SS arc but with tig bitty. Fake K town arc was really kool spectacle and seen alot of new stuff but wasnt a huge story wise. TYBW has alot of potential but was rushed cuz Shoen did him dirty. And they weren't Quincy. They felt like soul reapers with their random magic abilities that had nothing to do with quincy. Jailor was the only quincy. Oh I forgot. Fullbringers arc felt like filler arc
I honestly wish that As Nodt had taken away Byakuya's Shinigami powers, like Byakuya did to Ichigo. And then he'd've had to earn them back with Hat n Clogs Urahara. Watching the fight between Rukia and As Nodt, and then feeling his bankai return to him as she freezes him with her own bankai.
By current you mean hell arc? I think he's stronger than the vizard captains, not sure how he stacks up to Toshiro, Soi Fon and Rukia. He stomps the two new captains, no questions asked, and loses to the one I haven't mentioned. I think so, at least, I don't really remember all the captains at this point :v
@@elmerzcosta I'd say hes still ahead of Rukia, her Bankai has issues. From there, Isane, Iba, Shinji, Rose, Kensei, and Lisa Soi Fon is the only question mark The rest are still stronger by far
So here is the question when Byakuya either eventually dies in combat or retires from the position of Captain and assuming Renji is still serving as the Vice-Captain will Renji be promoted to Captain or will Rukia take over for her brother? Seeing how a Kuchiki family member seems to always be in charge of the division when one is available to fill the position Rukia would be the ideal option, however I like to think that they would let Renji take over the Captaincy so long as he is willing to take the Kuchiki last name (seeing how he did marry the adopted daughter of a noble house). Although given the new era the Soul Society finds itself in I doubt such a tradition would have many individuals demanding it be followed.
Isn't Ichigo considered a noble because of his father Isshin is blood related to the Shiba Clan? The Shiba Clan is one of the 4 great families in the soul society.

I've been waiting for this one Byakuya is my favorite captain easily.
Yeah, he's my favorite captain too. I like his calm and collected character.
31:00 gotta love when Byakuya trolls Mayuri, with that slight, hidden smirk... rare but golden xdd
Loved seeing all the Captains lined up at 1:23 I'm surprised at how little Kubo changed their designs throughout the series
lol what they all changed Shinsui eyepatch and yamamoto didnt change though much
Did we read the same manga? Damn near every character changed as the series moved on several times
Kubo is unmatched when it comes to design
Y'all noticed Byakuya and Renji's synergy while they were fighting Nodt? It wasn't much though
The passion is booming and the voice is going in this vid lol. Amazing video, it never fails to wrench my heart when watching Byakuya fight Tsukishima for Ichigo.
No , idgaf about a character arc... byakuya is to cool and interesting to just end like that..... I am glad he lived to power up more than ever
❤️❤️❤️
Byakuyas scarf was really expensive. 💀
The time he picked his broken sword to unleash his bankai against Tsukishima, that is so epic. I love that scene. I was amazed when Byakuya used his bankai with a broken sword.
I love how Renjiband Byakuya compliment each other. They make a strong team overall.
Can you do a “what if Renji and Byakuya had a rematch” since Renji has his true banki
Thanks for all the videos you make!
Byakuya is stronger
So, basically Byakuya is a better friend to Ichigo than Chad and Inoue, in his own way. I’m saying that, because they actually stood against Ichigo on Tsukishima’s side when he used his abilities on them. Previously I didn’t like Byakuya a lot, but after this video I may change my mind. Thanks for that.
I've been waiting for this since the 1st division analysis, let's go!!!!!
Bro this is my second fav division the first is 11th division but u always Knock this out of the park ur constants just so great keep it up
I cant remember if it happens in the manga or not, but in the Anime at the resolution of the soul society arc Ichigo pops in to check on Byakuya and Renji and him are discussing everything that happend.
Iwas a child when i became a fan of bleach, and im 25 now. i feel gratitud, thank you
Sorry for my engliish, greetings from Argentina!
Both Byakuya and Renji are my top 3 favorites characters ( along with Rukia)
Renji and Byakuya my favorites and apart of my squad of husbandos
If Byakuya would have died in the TYBW Arc than Renji would have been the new captain
Renji is not captain material 😅
Renji might not be mentally prepared because of his respect for Byakuya , but he’s definitely captain material in terms of power.
nah you don't say 😐
@@SasukeY2JItachi oh but Iba is? You know the guy who DID LITERALLY NOTHING the whole series?
@@darknesswave100
Iba has a cool mustache. That's the only qualification he needs to be a Captain.
loved it all, especially the piece about renji and ichigo in tybw
I love bykuya so much but the only thing i hated him for doing was going up against my best friend tsukishima 😭 and i couldn't even help
I do like how the Tsukishima fight with Byakuya kind of mirrors the Ichigo vs Byakuya fight where Byakuya puts aside his personal feelings for a greater goal in that second case because soul society Law and in the first you are Ichigo Kurosaki enemy
also like how it takes until they are alone for Renji to admit why he has Ichigo back so hard after soul society
@MrTommo2304 I think people forget Renji graduated the academy in 2 years just like Kira they are both considered geniuses.
Really idont remember that
@@AzoozBg Remember him Kira and momo were part of the advanced class. He told rukia in the flash back she was going to get left in the dust if she didn't improve.
It's between 6th and 11th for sure. I argue for 11 though seeing as they were the first to support ichigo and they are the only division where the seat positions actually matters
edit: also the division with the most filled out history
My favorite division hands down.
Thank you for doing these videos I finished re reading the last chapters again also finished can't fear your own world
The one time am early I forgot what video i was gonna ask you to do
I wasn't expecting the greatest ambassador to be mentioned
The correct pronunciation for Camelia, is Kha-mee-lee-a. That's also the flower that gave us green tea, and was a representation of the bounty the gods bestowed upon us.
Byakuya is my third favorite character in this series, soo yea XDDD
13:07 I really like this spread as it showcases the immense variety of Bleach characters!
Ahhh.... the GOAT division with the GOAT captain
You really got the sense of how In Medias Res the narrative is
Love your analysis! Really look forward to a tenth division analysis if you wish to do one!
Byakuya forever.. 💖
19:02 FINALLY! This is the first time I have ever heard this criticism!
How about ranking the thirteen divisions from weakest to strongest in a future video ?
I really like Ichigo tbh his character is just like Goku! Ichigo like goku has the same characteristic property of influencing every around him even the worst of his enemies gain some feelings of respect for him just like Ulquiorra and even Aizen!
honestly can't wait tell we talk about the 7th. Been waiting.
I would have loved to see more of byakuya dad and grand father
Great video. I always look foward to the. Cant wait for the next one
LETS GOO NEW TOMMO VIDEO
"The scarf of You Did Ok, But Not Really"
Can you make a video explaining the zanpakuto? im confused what a shikai is. Awesome video! Thanks
Best division by far.
Saw the vid and was instantly happy
I think this content would be awesome as a podcast
Hi would you ever do and analysis on the bleach Netflix movie?
I think this video makes me want to read the Manga all over again.
Byakuya gave Renji the scarf of “you didn’t beat me but you did ok”
I think I butchered the the Bleach abridged quote but you get the idea.
I am Abari Renji! A lieutenant of the thirteen court guards. Victors against opponent’s such as…
I’M A FAILURE!

At the end of the Lost Agent Arc he shows how much Ichigo means to him bc he stays loyal to Ichigo even after getting cut by the Book of the End.
I thought the women by the window during an injured byakuyas speech to ichigo was nanao even in the anime it seems like it’s her considering shunsui was fighting and got hurt to during that invasion but I’m not really sure
End got me emotional lol
Which sucks cause he's my favorite character 😅
It honestly depends on what your definition of a main character is.
I think when most people count MCs in bleach it's Ichigo and his main group of friends so
Ichigo
Rukia
Orihime
Uryu
Chad
Renji
Kubo seems to agree with this as well as these specific characters have the most consistent art drawn together hanging out and had thay group moment during the huec Mundo arc
Warm Take: Renji is currently stronger than at least half of the current captains
From there, Isane, Iba, Shinji, Rose, Kensei, and Lisa
Soi Fon is the only question mark
The rest are still stronger by far
@@BlackChapters nice, so we agree :D
Half and more
@@elmerzcosta I don't think he's as strong as Toshiro. I'm not sure about Soi Fon. He's stronger than the Vizard captains and Rukia imo.
lets go this division
Dam he did my guy chad dirty
I liked the previous thumbnail better
17:43 on the ol' RUclips algorithm.
Even tho Renji deserved capt way b4 the others like iba did.
Rukia became Captain of the 13th Division replacing Ukitake.
You look so good with this beard
Isn't Ichigo considered a noble because of his father Isshin is blood related to the Shiba Clan? The Shiba Clan is one of the 4 great families in the soul society.
