I agree with you that Shinji and Hinamori is a nice team up. As for Shinji's suspicions about Aizen; I've read a fanfic in which Shinji says that he was suspicious of Aizen because Aizen was perfect on the surface and Shinji believes that the more perfect people look, the more suspicious and imperfect they are.
I agree actually. At first I was never too into it, but I think it vastly improved when he regained his status as a captain (I'm not sure if that's unpopular or not) but I loved the tie and waistcoat combo.

We lost our shit when we first saw Shinji to the extent one of my friends was so obsessed with Shinji, her boyfriend started getting jealous.
the design and his abilities, really enjoyed it! Wonder if there's a book to give more detail on his inspiration. For instance, Shinji reminds me of some 60s guy from Liverpool, Aizen looks like a 90s fashion icon, very aloof and detached from the world.
I think in regards to Shinji knowing Aizen was evil, I think Shinji was just instinctively distrusting of Aizen. Not that Aizen ever did anything to make him feel that way, just that some people are more perceptive than others. It’s like when you have a new friend in the friend group and you pick up that something’s off with them but everyone else doesn’t, and then this new friend screws people over out of the blue and you’re kinda like “yeah I dunno why y’all ever liked that dude I could tell he was a piece of shit.” I gather that’s kinda how Shinji thought of Aizen. He had no proof that Aizen was bad or evil, but I think Shinji’s instincts and gut reaction was picking up on something about him that others were not.
If anything shinji picked up on the fake personality he had and was like bruh this is a fake persona isn’t it? And he picked up on the disrespect that he tried to play off as “im smarter than you so i can disrespect you without you knowing and your take it as a compliment” and shinji was like bro no stop fuck outta here. If you notice shinji is also doing a fake personality of that of a serious person when in reality like urahara he’s a goofball😂
Momo is really overhated by the fandom imo. Aizen essentially groomed her to be obsessed with him and ik for a fact there isn’t a single bleach fan that would’ve been able to do any better than momo did in the series.
Grooming is hard to grasp because by essence it's a very insidious manipulation. It litteraly kills you with (perceived) kindness. But i think while we can agree that irl she should be getting all compassion you could, from a fandom perspective she is indeed passive and never really gets out of the punching bag spot. Which is fine because life sucks but obviously it's gonna look bad when other characters can bounce back
Shinji is one of my absolute favorite characters in all of Bleach. His style and design, his attitude and humor, his history with Aizen and place in the story, his zanpakuto abilities -- he's just awesome and deserved way better treatment post-FKT. I'll always be a little disappointed with the treatment he got during the TYBW in particular. He should have finally gotten a full, one-on-one fight where he could show off his powers more completely and come out victorious since by all logic he should be among the stronger Shinigami at this point and is a pretty significant character all things considered. Instead he was just a punching bag when there was so much potential and many opportunities for interesting fight match-ups.
Yeah, the farthest we got was his badass fight against Grimmjow, when he saved Ichigo and Rukia, but even that fight was cut short. It’s so sad, since he’s so cool and interesting, but Kubo just never gave him the complete spotlight, just enough to make people wish he got more
To be fair there is only so far he can go in a one on one fight he can only use his Shikai abilities. As stated in the novels Kubo explained his Bankai as it turns allies to foe and foe to ally so one on one his Bankai does nothing. Not to mention it has a radius like Tousens or Kyōraku and it also makes Shinji completely immobile from his petal stand. But to be fair again majority of characters couldn't fight against his Shikais ability (unless you're Aizen because Aizen lol) so Shinji doesn't really need anything more than his Shikai w/ or w/o mask
I find it interesting that only after Momo gets stabbed by Hitsugaya, Hogyoku begins to merge with Aizen and read his heart. It seems to me that Momo was the last link to humanity for Aizen and after she is out of his way, Aizen allows himself to become a monster.
That’s always been the back of my mind asking “Does Kubo not like Hinamori? Why does he keep humiliating her like this?” I know some folks don’t like her for whatever reason. But me, I’ve always liked Hinamori and she’s one of my favorite characters. I don’t think I can bring myself into disliking her for all the hell she was going through during the SS arc. At that time, it made me so mad that Aizen had to do this to this poor cute woman. I just think that Kubo could’ve done more with her like utilizing her properly. I love her team up with Rangiku against the Tres Bestias (Apacci, Mila Rose and Sung-Sun). Maybe it’s just I’m like the only person that really feels sorry for her and she doesn’t deserve to be mistreated at all.
I would've liked it if Isane was tasked by Unohana with setting up a casualty collection point in Fake Karakura Town and ended helping Momo and Rangiku in a proper 3v3 against the Tres Bestias. All three of them need wins.
@@yorecf9641 Yes that’s what Kubo should’ve done is even the odds of 3v3 battle. And Isane would be utilized well and see more of her abilities. I honestly didn’t think about it until you brought it up.
Aizen even before his betrayal sure had a darkly realistic take on fighting and the ideals/reasons behind doing so, printing it in the official field manual of Gotei 13. Shinji sure has taken to that ruthless practicality especially after the war and best seen in CFYOW. But him challenging a hoard of pursuing hollows while appearing out of breath will be one of the most badass moments in the series.
Shinji was always like that tbh but he had friends to not fully become aizen and never had the greed aizen had to become more than what they could be and just wanted to be stronger to protect his friends
I've gotta say, not sure if this is a popular opinion or not, but I adore Shinjis design, and character. Him getting along with Momo is very nice to see, as they are both victims of Aizen.
My favourite member of the fifth division is Momo ,because despite after all the abuse that Aizen has done to her I can see that she's has come out of the other side a more strong, confident and determined woman. Now she has as very healthy and better relationship with her new captain she has now a lot courage in her then she had during the Soul Society arc.
I'll be honest, I didn't like Momo AT ALL ever since I saw her in the SS arc. I also thought Kubo didn't like her either because this girl just kept getting abused and thrown about every time she was on screen. I groan every time I see her, unfortunately. I will say that I love how you went in depth about Momo's qualities and her deeper involvement in the story because I didn't see any of that at all when I watched Bleach - I'm starting to read the manga since I never have. I respect her a bit more, though she's still not my favorite character. Aizen and Shinji are cool characters, but Shinji had to grow on me. My favorite Squad 5 moment would honestly be Aizen betraying everybody 😂 That scene was just so good 👌 There was just this feeling of, "Welp. Everybody's f-ed." 😂 Great analysis, as always.
Thanks Lashun - even after going into detail like that about Hinamori, I'm still not really that into her. It does feel like Kubo has a weird vendetta against her, but as I mentioned in the video, I think it's just an unfortunate byproduct of her being so close to Aizen.
It would be nice if Hinamori got some development later. I always thought she was being set up to have a crisis of confidence with her Zanpakuto either losing her will to fight or having to adapt and reforge her Asauchi much like Ichigo.
It is fun to think that, Shinji chose Aizen as vice captain even though he already knew Aizen's "poisonous". And the exact same thing happens after Aizen became the captain, that Gin was chosed as vice captain well, after all that Aizen claimed he had always known Gin's purpose but still got stabbed and almost killed by Gin's betrayal... This fifth division theory is just so facinnating...
So I've always loved Momo. She was the one character in Bleach I instantly connected with. I loved her playfulness and her dedication to her job/Captain. Also she has black hair and brown eyes like me. I understood her pain with loosing someone you cared about and also the betrayal of someone close to you. Minus the being stabbed part. I love seeing characters go though their trauma and watching them grow. Yes, I'm aware a lot of people find her annoying but honestly when you've been that hurt it's hard to pretend like nothing is happening. I feel like we get to see her work though her grief and issues in her little scenes thought the series. I love seeing her bond with Shinji that they have a healthier bond than the Capt./Lt. relationship they had previously with Aizen. I can't wait to see what Kubo does next with her and I'd really appreciate it if he stops hurting my baby girl!!
This might not have much to do with with the video itself, but at one point I was talking with my sister about Momo's character, and how we were disappointed that her personal character arc just seemed to freeze in the TYBW arc. She thought Momo should've battled zombie Hitsugaia, and achieved bankai in order to stop him. If I were writing Momo, I would've given her an arc about picking herself back up and rising above Aizen's legacy. Like, "the man I admired wasn't the person I thought he was, so I will BECOME the person I thought he was myself." Working her up to becoming a leader and teacher who can inspire people the way Aizen inspired her.
lets hope the anime will have more screen time for shinji i wanna see him fight so bad. do you think kubo avoided giving shinji a big role in the manga because he didn't want for him to activate his bankai after like it getting stolen or something of that sort since it was the whole theme of the first invasion or even the entire arc ?
I don't know really know why Shinji didn't get anything to do to be honest, like I said, it seemed to make perfect sense to include him against Gerard as a chance for some spotlight.

About Momo I somehow find it quite hilarious about her durability. She took many blows from many characters with at least captain-level in term of power at the part that supposed to be lethal such as get stabbed through her chest 2 times, get slammed by Gerard, and still survive at the end of story
It still amazes me how none of the other soul reapers question the disappearance of Shinji and his group during the past arc. I guess Aizen’s hypnosis ability is crazy enough that he made sure there wasn’t any evidence aside from the empty chairs?
@@huehue3592 Crazy that none of them questioned it beyond that. I’d have second thoughts if someone I knew for a really long time suddenly became a traitor. Then again, the Rukia execution went the same way. They didn’t bother to investigate further or explore the reasons for her actions before sentencing her to death. The black and white outfits seem to symbolize the way they view right and wrong. Nothing’s ever grey with them.
@@CaptainKotetsu yeah and not to mention wizen had a ton of witnesses saying he was there and that Kisuke was sus. Soi fon and Mayuri were probably happy to accept him to advance their own motives and maybe the other captains thought the visords were unwilling participants
It seems like Soul Society at least before Bleach stared were very rigid when orders came from Central 46. Like hardly anyone dared question the initial orders for Rukias execution until things were really get suspicious and even then only half of the Gotei acted on it while the rest carried through. That’s one of the flaws Aizen took full advantage of and how he was able to get away with so much. So when Shinji and the other reapers were labeled as Traitors no one dared question it and assumed to be true at the time especially when Kisuke was being framed by it
It's odd since Shinji and Aizen's were the Captains I've always associated the 5th Division with hidden motives like actors playing different rolls, though I guess it doesn't apply to Momo and the rest of the division so a dangerous flower really is far more fitting.
Ye shinji was reversed as a serious guy to actually being a good goofy person but aizen was the opposite of being a nice good quiet guy to actually being a evil greedy egotistical person who talks alot actually like alot. Bruh dropped his glasses too
Momo trapped the "tres bestia" in a invisible spiderweb and tried to burn them to death. Hell she tried to kill Gin, Kira and Toushirou because of Aizen's fake death.
I'm beyond pleased to see you doing a video on the division with my two favorite characters, Aizen and Momo. Everything and anything that can be said about Aizen has been already said by everyone else in the fandom, so I just wanted to say thank you for finally taking a look into Momo's character. I know she's far from many peoples favorite characters and the butt of many jokes, but I've always found the character to be inspiring. She goes through absolute hell, more than Kira and Hisagi ever did, yet despite that she still comes out of the whole situation better and stronger for it. I personally feel that she deserved more screen time to properly flesh out her predicament, but I feel she does send a message, however small it was, that as long as you survive, you can get through anything. Thanks again for this look into these characters and I eagerly look forward to the eventual video on Momo Hinamori.
Shinji being my favorite character in the whole series kinda answers the first question; and the reveal of Shinji knowing Aizen was watching the conversation was pretty sick.
Something about Shinji I’d love to see you discuss is his bankai- specifically, what it implies about his character. I’ve felt that kubo goes to pains to illustrate him as having a nature not dissimilar to Aizen, just an inverse side of the coin. This is most striking in that Aizen seems to be itching to prove his superiority against him in a 1v1, almost to prove to himself that Shinji is not on his level. While Shinji’s shikai is an incredible asset to a team fight, and can be finely controlled to not inhibit allies, his bankai honestly feels like a power Aizen himself might have. What does it say about Shinji, a leader appointed through trial and strength, someone with deep roots to a close group of friends, that his bankai is this sort of oppressive, lone wolf style power that will corrupt anyone, with no distinction?
I love how most Captains and Vice Captains are opposites. Byakuya and Renji, Jushiro and Kaien (then the other two I forgot the name of), Soi Fon and Omaeda, etc. Having Shinji and Aizen be so similar was odd when I first watched Turn Back the Pendulum. Sure Yamamoto and Chijiro were similar, but it was because they've been through so much over a thousand years. With Shinji and Momo, it felt so much like classic Gotei Captain/VC relationship. Shinji being more cunning and a natural leader, and Momo being direct and extremely supportive. There are other similarities/differences but their morales is what makes their relationship so good. They both want to help others and keep the peace. Squad 6 wants to protect those they care about. Squad 2 is about proving their own worth. Squad 8 were both protective of each other. I love Kubo's ability to give us two sides of the same coin.
Hmm. I don’t think Shinji was the only Captain to suspect Aizen. When they flashback to the alarm being sounded the night of the hollowfication experiment. Kyoraku can be seen walking and then looking up to “seeing” Aizen and then commenting to himself that “maybe he’s mistaken”. That scene in my opinion hinted to him having suspicions for Aizen.
NGL I like Bleach, not love, but I can literally have you playing in the background for hours and catch every sentence. I think I like the explanations more than the actual story
I agree with your opinion i mean i like to say i love everything i enjoy, but my heart goes to One Piece, Hunter X Hunter, and Yu Yu Hakusho, in terms of top Shonen.

This video sums up how I felt about the Fifth Division, they've been through some horrible shit, but they came out stronger and better for the division in the end. I'm glad you pointed out how...popular the squad was and how so many characters came through it; it completely slipped my mind that Renji was stationed there too, and he in a sense "escaped" by joining a squad not headed by one of Aizen's accomplices. A little bit of an interesting to note, both Shinji and Aizen are heavily association with deception while their squad's flower represents honest and sincerity, yet also rebirth and change. Both of their Zanpakuto involve manipulating the enemy's senses to deceive, but Aizen goes above and beyond to outright sinister levels while Shinji doesn't. Speaking of Shinji, when he was introduced he was super shady (and he always seems to give off that vibe), yet he turned out to be one of the most grounded and reasonable characters in the cast. He never asked for change but it was forced on him, but regained his position and a bit of happiness while Aizen sought it out and now has an eternity of jail time. I'm glad you were on-point and respectful when talking to Momo. In the SS Arc she did feel like the human element of the Gotei 13 so that seemed to make her the designated punching bag for the entire war against Aizen. Contrasting her kindness, when she does fight she can be pretty vicious, which may align with the deceptive nature of the 5th Division. She did get better under Shinji and the little snippets were pleasant to see, and I think Kubo was trying to show the damage Aizen had done to the division was being healed.

momo is one of my favorite examples of kubo writting something subtle in the background; we get to see momo slowly recover from her trauma little by little across the manga culminating in ,like you mentioned, her relationship with her current captain. she kinda has a little of nanao flavor going on where she sometimes doesnt put up with shinji's silliness and she has to rail him in. i love what little we see of their relationship

Low Key Interesting Thought: Aizen is the 5th Captain which means he sort of beyond Death (Shinigami). Why? 4 is the number of Death in Japanese. Similarly, Unohana is in charge of the 4th Squad (number of death) and she was the First Kenpachi and depicted as a ruthless criminal (before her battle with Zaraki).
Fuck him, and Asriel, are really similar because Asriel, has a form named Hyperdeath which means you are beyond death like Aizen, so Hyperdeath Aizen, to then, plus he’s a actual god so he’s a god of Hyperdeath, or Hypershinagama.

The 3rd Captain, the holy number in Western Culture. Gin, the angel who had seemingly fallen. I already said Aizen and Unohana. 6th, The sixth day of God creating Earth in Genesis, he made man. Imperfect, powerful, arrogant, but he can grow. Kuchiki probably had the most character development in the entire series. Here it is going to be BIG Maybes but here's my shot: 7th Day in Buddhist culture, after a person's death is when you mourn them. Sajin Kamamura had a tragic end where he got turned into a regular wolf/dog/fox. Not sure for Number 8 but 9 represents tranquility and patience in numerology. 10 represent potential itself as shown in string theory and stuff where it is said to represent every possible universe and timeline. Maybe I'm going into it too crazy and I feel like I should stop rn

The 5th Division is one of the most important in the series, due to the simple fact that it was the Division Aizen was the Captain of. XD I do really like Shinji though, he just has a vibe to him that makes him cool in a laid-back way.
I feel like shinji is the most experienced captain now right, outside of shunsui of course. Tho I'm guessing kenpachi is the next oldest captain before him.
@@luciussakura5031 I say kenpachi in age because he was there for the unohana flashback then shinji just seemed the most experienced of the captains from the flashback, that's still a captain at this point, besides shunsui again.
After Aizen’s betrayal it was my hope Hinamori and Toshiro would do a sick Ice and Fire relationship. But Hinamori never recovered from Aizens betrayal and Rangiku really came into her own as a character and a lieutenant.
Aizen rotting in a jail cell is right but it just sounds weird to me because somehow he’s reverse rotting and looks way too happy for a guy stuck in a chair 😂
You pointing out how aizen band actually railroaded momo, izuru and reiji was very informative! I don't know if Kubo dislike her but i do think her having extreme difficulty after the betrayal is very realistic. Even Ichigo more than once sink to despair due to the hardships, and momo really got betrayed where it hurts the most I like to think shinji didn't take further action towards action for two reasons 1)Shinji have better morals than the central 46 and thus would not want to condemn someone without evidence, even if he felt with all his instinct he was up to no good 2) What if being sent to the maggots nest actually made him worse(shinji didn't knew how bad aizen was)/allowed him to gather allies/unexpected ressources? 3) If Mayuri can be scooped up by urahara, no reason to believe someone else wouldn't be able to: in particular tosen and gin probably would
Aizen and Shinji both have illusion-type zanpakuto. So, I can of think that an illusion-type zanpakuto couldn't fully work on an illusion-type zanpakuto wielder and all the negative and conniving emotions from Aizen would somehow slip through his illusions, with Shinji unknowingly sensing them and staying "on-guard" when it came to his former lieutenant.
i just thought that the visoreds could have played such a huge role in the TYBW because they're literally shinigami boosted by hollow powers, the power that opposes the quincy existence, i just feel that some of the captains especially shinji should have had a better role in the TYBW
I always loved shinji's design, i think it really shows kubo's drawing mastery. On the other hand the way he was handled as a character shows how much confused kubo was as a writer.
KUBO was setting us up for the guys with glasses is pure of heart. When he "died", we all said, yep that makes sense. Why does glasses equal weak and nice? What was the first thing Azien did when he was the official villian?
Shinji is by far my favourite character in the series. I really do hope the anime gives him more to do. He really deserves more spotlight than what he’s given. He’s handled very weirdly in the manga. He shows up a lot but he doesn’t do anything major. He’s there though in every major phase of the arc. I’m seriously getting vibes that kubo really wanted to do more with him, it’s just he decided not to include it for whatever reason.
I think it’s crazy how shinji had the most potential to actually get to know aizen and understand him but his hatred and lack of trust for his own vice captian was the reason he didn’t .

Maybe Aizen let Shinji be suspicious of him on purpose. Aizen said he needed him to be suspicious to get his way. So he might have let his intent show just enough to Shinji that he felt he needed to investigate but not enough that Shinji could ever figure out what.
I read the manga again now that I'm an adult and I'm sure Tite Kubo doesn't like Hinamori because she is the closest woman to Aizen, Aizen made her an object of his, dominated Momo's life, made Momo "not live without him". Hinamori is very human, she lived in an abusive and toxic relationship with Aizen and was in love with him, who was her attacker and there is every possibility that Momo slept with Aizen, in the manga this issue is very explicit, but it was silenced by Kubo. Hinamori sleeping in Aizen's bed? Did they have an intimate relationship? She would go to his room in her pajamas at night. Because of this, Kubo silenced her and silenced all her dramas and made Aizen humiliate her in the war beyond anything he had ever done to her and made her hated by the fandom and became a joke. It shouldn't, because she was a victim of Aizen and should be well developed and have a story of overcoming, she is a lieutenant and not an extra. But being so close to Aizen made Kubo not give him a voice. That's sad, she had everything to be a great character in terms of story and real life drama, Kishimoto would do that very well... he would make us cry because of Hinamori. Aizen is a narcissist and Momo, wronged by Kubo, deserved respect.
Aizen is an idiot, Momo loved him as a person, and he sacrificed her twice, a kind person, he stabbed her twice. She always admired him, he trained her not to live without him, if he opened up to her she would understand him, why did he say she never understood him, he never showed his true self to her, how can he blame her. Don't tell me about Aizen's loneliness, he's selfish, fake. He took Hinamori's life to abuse her in many ways and try to kill her because she couldn't live without him. Totally abusive. Wow, I hate Aizen, he really disgusted me with what he did to Momo, she was his victim the whole time. She should never be hated, she is very realistic as a character.
Shinji has nearly no character development. The biggest character development he had was keeping the haircut Tosen gave him. Comparatively, you can see and feel the effects of their exodus from SS in every other Vizard captain and not captain.
Gin got into Aizen's group to get payback because Aizen stole most of Regocu's spirit energy (I can't remember her name but she's the current 10th division lieutenant who has the red hair and enormous boobs) She had latent captain level spirit energy and was really good/best friends with Gin. He only was "evil" to convince Aizen to let him be a part of his inner circle then betrayed Aizen during the fake Cararutown Invasion and attemted to kill him and steal the soul ball thingy but ultimately failed after coming very close.
If you look at the squads as governmental parts, I would see it as the 5th being the educational sector. Preparing the experts of tomorrow for all the other parts
i love shinji but unfortunately i think he was a victim of his own power. unless you are dealing with aizen or an omnidirectional attack there's no getting around shinji's shikai. if you are writing it in a realistic fashion you would probably get one-shot'ed most of the time due to the free hit it provides or unless get defeated before you can get used to its effects... which i dont think you'd ever be able to keep straight in your head. theres no doubt in my mind kubo sidelined shinji on purpose
Alot of the thing you point to Aizen with the fifth also heavily apply to shinji as well, which go to show how well these characters fit in their divisions.the only thing separating Aizen and shinji is that one is completely selfish. hell even their ability's are similar. i think shinji was suspicious of Aizen because they where so similar but that suspicion alone couldn't do anything to someone so well like.
@@MrTommo2304 true that, which doesn't make much sense to me since I'd expect them to be at least a bit stronger than most of the non Vizard equivalents in the Gotei 13, considering they were and in some cases are now again members of said organisation, and also have hollowfication abilities on top of Lt and Cpt class power/abilities to begin with, plus hundreds of years of experience XuX

As for Shinji's suspicions about Aizen; I've read a fanfic in which Shinji says that he was suspicious of Aizen because Aizen was perfect on the surface and Shinji believes that the more perfect people look, the more suspicious and imperfect they are.

I agree actually. At first I was never too into it, but I think it vastly improved when he regained his status as a captain (I'm not sure if that's unpopular or not) but I loved the tie and waistcoat combo.

I think in regards to Shinji knowing Aizen was evil, I think Shinji was just instinctively distrusting of Aizen. Not that Aizen ever did anything to make him feel that way, just that some people are more perceptive than others. It’s like when you have a new friend in the friend group and you pick up that something’s off with them but everyone else doesn’t, and then this new friend screws people over out of the blue and you’re kinda like “yeah I dunno why y’all ever liked that dude I could tell he was a piece of shit.” I gather that’s kinda how Shinji thought of Aizen. He had no proof that Aizen was bad or evil, but I think Shinji’s instincts and gut reaction was picking up on something about him that others were not.
If anything shinji picked up on the fake personality he had and was like bruh this is a fake persona isn’t it? And he picked up on the disrespect that he tried to play off as “im smarter than you so i can disrespect you without you knowing and your take it as a compliment” and shinji was like bro no stop fuck outta here. Momo is really overhated by the fandom imo. Aizen essentially groomed her to be obsessed with him and ik for a fact there isn’t a single bleach fan that would’ve been able to do any better than momo did in the series.
Grooming is hard to grasp because by essence it's a very insidious manipulation. It litteraly kills you with (perceived) kindness.
But i think while we can agree that irl she should be getting all compassion you could, from a fandom perspective she is indeed passive and never really gets out of the punching bag spot. Which is fine because life sucks but obviously it's gonna look bad when other characters can bounce back

Shinji is one of my absolute favorite characters in all of Bleach. His style and design, his attitude and humor, his history with Aizen and place in the story, his zanpakuto abilities -- he's just awesome and deserved way better treatment post-FKT. I'll always be a little disappointed with the treatment he got during the TYBW in particular. He should have finally gotten a full, one-on-one fight where he could show off his powers more completely and come out victorious since by all logic he should be among the stronger Shinigami at this point and is a pretty significant character all things considered. Instead he was just a punching bag when there was so much potential and many opportunities for interesting fight match-ups.
I agree that it's insane he never got that one-on-one fight he deserved.

Yeah, the farthest we got was his badass fight against Grimmjow, when he saved Ichigo and Rukia, but even that fight was cut short. It’s so sad, since he’s so cool and interesting, but Kubo just never gave him the complete spotlight, just enough to make people wish he got more
To be fair there is only so far he can go in a one on one fight he can only use his Shikai abilities. As stated in the novels Kubo explained his Bankai as it turns allies to foe and foe to ally so one on one his Bankai does nothing. Not to mention it has a radius like Tousens or Kyōraku and it also makes Shinji completely immobile from his petal stand.
But to be fair again majority of characters couldn't fight against his Shikais ability (unless you're Aizen because Aizen lol) so Shinji doesn't really need anything more than his Shikai w/ or w/o mask

I find it interesting that only after Momo gets stabbed by Hitsugaya, Hogyoku begins to merge with Aizen and read his heart.
It seems to me that Momo was the last link to humanity for Aizen and after she is out of his way, Aizen allows himself to become a monster.
That’s always been the back of my mind asking “Does Kubo not like Hinamori? Why does he keep humiliating her like this?” I know some folks don’t like her for whatever reason. But me, I’ve always liked Hinamori and she’s one of my favorite characters. I don’t think I can bring myself into disliking her for all the hell she was going through during the SS arc. At that time, it made me so mad that Aizen had to do this to this poor cute woman. I just think that Kubo could’ve done more with her like utilizing her properly. I love her team up with Rangiku against the Tres Bestias (Apacci, Mila Rose and Sung-Sun). Maybe it’s just I’m like the only person that really feels sorry for her and she doesn’t deserve to be mistreated at all.
I would've liked it if Isane was tasked by Unohana with setting up a casualty collection point in Fake Karakura Town and ended helping Momo and Rangiku in a proper 3v3 against the Tres Bestias. All three of them need wins.

Aizen even before his betrayal sure had a darkly realistic take on fighting and the ideals/reasons behind doing so, printing it in the official field manual of Gotei 13. Shinji sure has taken to that ruthless practicality especially after the war and best seen in CFYOW. But him challenging a hoard of pursuing hollows while appearing out of breath will be one of the most badass moments in the series.
Shinji was always like that tbh but he had friends to not fully become aizen and never had the greed aizen had to become more than what they could be and just wanted to be stronger to protect his friends
I've gotta say, not sure if this is a popular opinion or not, but I adore Shinjis design, and character. Him getting along with Momo is very nice to see, as they are both victims of Aizen.

My favourite member of the fifth division is Momo ,because despite after all the abuse that Aizen has done to her I can see that she's has come out of the other side a more strong, confident and determined woman. Now she has as very healthy and better relationship with her new captain she has now a lot courage in her then she had during the Soul Society arc.

I'll be honest, I didn't like Momo AT ALL ever since I saw her in the SS arc. I also thought Kubo didn't like her either because this girl just kept getting abused and thrown about every time she was on screen. I groan every time I see her, unfortunately. I will say that I love how you went in depth about Momo's qualities and her deeper involvement in the story because I didn't see any of that at all when I watched Bleach - I'm starting to read the manga since I never have. I respect her a bit more, though she's still not my favorite character. Aizen and Shinji are cool characters, but Shinji had to grow on me.
My favorite Squad 5 moment would honestly be Aizen betraying everybody 😂 That scene was just so good 👌 There was just this feeling of, "Welp. Everybody's f-ed." 😂

Thanks Lashun - even after going into detail like that about Hinamori, I'm still not really that into her. It does feel like Kubo has a weird vendetta against her, but as I mentioned in the video, I think it's just an unfortunate byproduct of her being so close to Aizen.

It would be nice if Hinamori got some development later. I always thought she was being set up to have a crisis of confidence with her Zanpakuto either losing her will to fight or having to adapt and reforge her Asauchi much like Ichigo.

It is fun to think that, Shinji chose Aizen as vice captain even though he already knew Aizen's "poisonous". And the exact same thing happens after Aizen became the captain, that Gin was chosed as vice captain well, after all that Aizen claimed he had always known Gin's purpose but still got stabbed and almost killed by Gin's betrayal... This fifth division theory is just so facinnating...

So I've always loved Momo. She was the one character in Bleach I instantly connected with. I loved her playfulness and her dedication to her job/Captain. Also she has black hair and brown eyes like me. I understood her pain with loosing someone you cared about and also the betrayal of someone close to you. Minus the being stabbed part. I love seeing characters go though their trauma and watching them grow. Yes, I'm aware a lot of people find her annoying but honestly when you've been that hurt it's hard to pretend like nothing is happening. I feel like we get to see her work though her grief and issues in her little scenes thought the series. I love seeing her bond with Shinji that they have a healthier bond than the Capt./Lt. relationship they had previously with Aizen. I can't wait to see what Kubo does next with her and I'd really appreciate it if he stops hurting my baby girl!!
This might not have much to do with with the video itself, but at one point I was talking with my sister about Momo's character, and how we were disappointed that her personal character arc just seemed to freeze in the TYBW arc. She thought Momo should've battled zombie Hitsugaia, and achieved bankai in order to stop him.
If I were writing Momo, I would've given her an arc about picking herself back up and rising above Aizen's legacy. Like, "the man I admired wasn't the person I thought he was, so I will BECOME the person I thought he was myself." Working her up to becoming a leader and teacher who can inspire people the way Aizen inspired her.
lets hope the anime will have more screen time for shinji i wanna see him fight so bad. do you think kubo avoided giving shinji a big role in the manga because he didn't want for him to activate his bankai after like it getting stolen or something of that sort since it was the whole theme of the first invasion or even the entire arc ?

Shinji has to be one of my all time favorite characters in all of fiction.
About Momo I somehow find it quite hilarious about her durability. She took many blows from many characters with at least captain-level in term of power at the part that supposed to be lethal such as get stabbed through her chest 2 times, get slammed by Gerard, and still survive at the end of story
To this day I still think it's a bit unbelievable that she survived the whole 'Aizen switch' scene, but there you go.

Then again, the Rukia execution went the same way. They didn’t bother to investigate further or explore the reasons for her actions before sentencing her to death.
The black and white outfits seem to symbolize the way they view right and wrong. Nothing’s ever grey with them.

It seems like Soul Society at least before Bleach stared were very rigid when orders came from Central 46. Like hardly anyone dared question the initial orders for Rukias execution until things were really get suspicious and even then only half of the Gotei acted on it while the rest carried through. That’s one of the flaws Aizen took full advantage of and how he was able to get away with so much. So when Shinji and the other reapers were labeled as Traitors no one dared question it and assumed to be true at the time especially when Kisuke was being framed by it

It's odd since Shinji and Aizen's were the Captains I've always associated the 5th Division with hidden motives like actors playing different rolls, though I guess it doesn't apply to Momo and the rest of the division so a dangerous flower really is far more fitting.
Ye shinji was reversed as a serious guy to actually being a good goofy person but aizen was the opposite of being a nice good quiet guy to actually being a evil greedy egotistical person who talks alot actually like alot. Bruh dropped his glasses too
Momo trapped the "tres bestia" in a invisible spiderweb and tried to burn them to death. Hell she tried to kill Gin, Kira and Toushirou because of Aizen's fake death.

I'm beyond pleased to see you doing a video on the division with my two favorite characters, Aizen and Momo.
Everything and anything that can be said about Aizen has been already said by everyone else in the fandom, so I just wanted to say thank you for finally taking a look into Momo's character.
I know she's far from many peoples favorite characters and the butt of many jokes, but I've always found the character to be inspiring.
She goes through absolute hell, more than Kira and Hisagi ever did, yet despite that she still comes out of the whole situation better and stronger for it. I personally feel that she deserved more screen time to properly flesh out her predicament, but I feel she does send a message, however small it was, that as long as you survive, you can get through anything.
Thanks again for this look into these characters and I eagerly look forward to the eventual video on Momo Hinamori.

Something about Shinji I’d love to see you discuss is his bankai- specifically, what it implies about his character.
I’ve felt that kubo goes to pains to illustrate him as having a nature not dissimilar to Aizen, just an inverse side of the coin.
This is most striking in that Aizen seems to be itching to prove his superiority against him in a 1v1, almost to prove to himself that Shinji is not on his level.
While Shinji’s shikai is an incredible asset to a team fight, and can be finely controlled to not inhibit allies, his bankai honestly feels like a power Aizen himself might have.
What does it say about Shinji, a leader appointed through trial and strength, someone with deep roots to a close group of friends, that his bankai is this sort of oppressive, lone wolf style power that will corrupt anyone, with no distinction?
I think that would be really interesting.
I love how most Captains and Vice Captains are opposites. Byakuya and Renji, Jushiro and Kaien (then the other two I forgot the name of), Soi Fon and Omaeda, etc. Having Shinji and Aizen be so similar was odd when I first watched Turn Back the Pendulum. Sure Yamamoto and Chijiro were similar, but it was because they've been through so much over a thousand years. With Shinji and Momo, it felt so much like classic Gotei Captain/VC relationship. Shinji being more cunning and a natural leader, and Momo being direct and extremely supportive. There are other similarities/differences but their morales is what makes their relationship so good. They both want to help others and keep the peace. Squad 6 wants to protect those they care about. Squad 2 is about proving their own worth. Squad 8 were both protective of each other. I love Kubo's ability to give us two sides of the same coin.

Hmm. I don’t think Shinji was the only Captain to suspect Aizen. When they flashback to the alarm being sounded the night of the hollowfication experiment. Kyoraku can be seen walking and then looking up to “seeing” Aizen and then commenting to himself that “maybe he’s mistaken”. That scene in my opinion hinted to him having suspicions for Aizen.
At this point I believe Momo can tank the Final Getsuga Tenshou 😂 😂

I agree with your opinion i mean i like to say i love everything i enjoy, but my heart goes to One Piece, Hunter X Hunter, and Yu Yu Hakusho, in terms of top Shonen.

Know what's messed up? Aizen didn't really seem to harm anyone else in his division, the only part of his division that was negatively affected by him was momo
This video sums up how I felt about the Fifth Division, they've been through some horrible shit, but they came out stronger and better for the division in the end. I'm glad you pointed out how...popular the squad was and how so many characters came through it; it completely slipped my mind that Renji was stationed there too, and he in a sense "escaped" by joining a squad not headed by one of Aizen's accomplices.
A little bit of an interesting to note, both Shinji and Aizen are heavily association with deception while their squad's flower represents honest and sincerity, yet also rebirth and change. Both of their Zanpakuto involve manipulating the enemy's senses to deceive, but Aizen goes above and beyond to outright sinister levels while Shinji doesn't. Speaking of Shinji, when he was introduced he was super shady (and he always seems to give off that vibe), yet he turned out to be one of the most grounded and reasonable characters in the cast. He never asked for change but it was forced on him, but regained his position and a bit of happiness while Aizen sought it out and now has an eternity of jail time.
I'm glad you were on-point and respectful when talking to Momo. In the SS Arc she did feel like the human element of the Gotei 13 so that seemed to make her the designated punching bag for the entire war against Aizen. Contrasting her kindness, when she does fight she can be pretty vicious, which may align with the deceptive nature of the 5th Division. She did get better under Shinji and the little snippets were pleasant to see, and I think Kubo was trying to show the damage Aizen had done to the division was being healed.

momo is one of my favorite examples of kubo writting something subtle in the background; we get to see momo slowly recover from her trauma little by little across the manga culminating in ,like you mentioned, her relationship with her current captain. she kinda has a little of nanao flavor going on where she sometimes doesnt put up with shinji's silliness and she has to rail him in. i love what little we see of their relationship

Low Key Interesting Thought: Aizen is the 5th Captain which means he sort of beyond Death (Shinigami). Why? 4 is the number of Death in Japanese. Similarly, Unohana is in charge of the 4th Squad (number of death) and she was the First Kenpachi and depicted as a ruthless criminal (before her battle with Zaraki).
Fuck him, and Asriel, are really similar because Asriel, has a form named Hyperdeath which means you are beyond death like Aizen, so Hyperdeath Aizen, to then, plus he’s a actual god so he’s a god of Hyperdeath, or Hypershinagama.

The 3rd Captain, the holy number in Western Culture. Gin, the angel who had seemingly fallen. I already said Aizen and Unohana. 6th, The sixth day of God creating Earth in Genesis, he made man. Imperfect, powerful, arrogant, but he can grow. Kuchiki probably had the most character development in the entire series.

7th Day in Buddhist culture, after a person's death is when you mourn them. Sajin Kamamura had a tragic end where he got turned into a regular wolf/dog/fox. Not sure for Number 8 but 9 represents tranquility and patience in numerology. 10 represent potential itself as shown in string theory and stuff where it is said to represent every possible universe and timeline. Maybe I'm going into it too crazy and I feel like I should stop rn

I do really like Shinji though, he just has a vibe to him that makes him cool in a laid-back way.
I feel like shinji is the most experienced captain now right, outside of shunsui of course. Tho I'm guessing kenpachi is the next oldest captain before him.
Honestly, there's no way to know, though I would agree that those two strike me as older than most of the rest of the captains.
@@luciussakura5031 I say kenpachi in age because he was there for the unohana flashback then shinji just seemed the most experienced of the captains from the flashback, that's still a captain at this point, besides shunsui again.
After Aizen’s betrayal it was my hope Hinamori and Toshiro would do a sick Ice and Fire relationship. But Hinamori never recovered from Aizens betrayal and Rangiku really came into her own as a character and a lieutenant.
Aizen rotting in a jail cell is right but it just sounds weird to me because somehow he’s reverse rotting and looks way too happy for a guy stuck in a chair 😂

I don't know if Kubo dislike her but i do think her having extreme difficulty after the betrayal is very realistic. Even Ichigo more than once sink to despair due to the hardships, and momo really got betrayed where it hurts the most
I like to think shinji didn't take further action towards action for two reasons
1)Shinji have better morals than the central 46 and thus would not want to condemn someone without evidence, even if he felt with all his instinct he was up to no good
2) What if being sent to the maggots nest actually made him worse(shinji didn't knew how bad aizen was)/allowed him to gather allies/unexpected ressources?
3) If Mayuri can be scooped up by urahara, no reason to believe someone else wouldn't be able to: in particular tosen and gin probably would

Aizen and Shinji both have illusion-type zanpakuto. So, I can of think that an illusion-type zanpakuto couldn't fully work on an illusion-type zanpakuto wielder and all the negative and conniving emotions from Aizen would somehow slip through his illusions, with Shinji unknowingly sensing them and staying "on-guard" when it came to his former lieutenant.

i just thought that the visoreds could have played such a huge role in the TYBW because they're literally shinigami boosted by hollow powers, the power that opposes the quincy existence, i just feel that some of the captains especially shinji should have had a better role in the TYBW

I always loved shinji's design, i think it really shows kubo's drawing mastery. On the other hand the way he was handled as a character shows how much confused kubo was as a writer.
Unpopular Opinion: Shinji legitimized the 5th Division.
I definitely think he added some much needed character when the division was really only notable for 'being the one with the bad guy'.
Momo is the tankiest character in the whole thing so of course she survives Gerard's slap.
KUBO was setting us up for the guys with glasses is pure of heart. When he "died", we all said, yep that makes sense.

Shinji is by far my favourite character in the series. I really do hope the anime gives him more to do. He really deserves more spotlight than what he’s given.
He’s handled very weirdly in the manga. He shows up a lot but he doesn’t do anything major. He’s there though in every major phase of the arc.
I’m seriously getting vibes that kubo really wanted to do more with him, it’s just he decided not to include it for whatever reason.
Is there any Kido spells that can harden your durability? Maybe that’s how she was able to handle Gerard attack.
I think it’s crazy how shinji had the most potential to actually get to know aizen and understand him but his hatred and lack of trust for his own vice captian was the reason he didn’t .

I still believe Aizen gets off on screwing with Toshiro via Momo. I believe he does it to be a dirt bag and push Toshiro.

Maybe Aizen let Shinji be suspicious of him on purpose. Aizen said he needed him to be suspicious to get his way. So he might have let his intent show just enough to Shinji that he felt he needed to investigate but not enough that Shinji could ever figure out what.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Kubo didn't decide on Aizen being a villain/traitor until after 'his corpse' was discovered.
Growing up is realizing with Aizen’s popularity, more than 2 shinigami would’ve defected after his betrayal
I read the manga again now that I'm an adult and I'm sure Tite Kubo doesn't like Hinamori because she is the closest woman to Aizen, Aizen made her an object of his, dominated Momo's life, made Momo "not live without him". Hinamori is very human, she lived in an abusive and toxic relationship with Aizen and was in love with him, who was her attacker and there is every possibility that Momo slept with Aizen, in the manga this issue is very explicit, but it was silenced by Kubo. Hinamori sleeping in Aizen's bed? Did they have an intimate relationship? She would go to his room in her pajamas at night.
Because of this, Kubo silenced her and silenced all her dramas and made Aizen humiliate her in the war beyond anything he had ever done to her and made her hated by the fandom and became a joke. It shouldn't, because she was a victim of Aizen and should be well developed and have a story of overcoming, she is a lieutenant and not an extra. But being so close to Aizen made Kubo not give him a voice. That's sad, she had everything to be a great character in terms of story and real life drama, Kishimoto would do that very well... he would make us cry because of Hinamori. Aizen is a narcissist and Momo, wronged by Kubo, deserved respect.

Shinji, Aizen, Gin, Renji, Momo... 5 seems to be the powerhouse (in skill and wit not sheer brute force) number.
Aizen is an idiot, Momo loved him as a person, and he sacrificed her twice, a kind person, he stabbed her twice. She always admired him, he trained her not to live without him, if he opened up to her she would understand him, why did he say she never understood him, he never showed his true self to her, how can he blame her. Don't tell me about Aizen's loneliness, he's selfish, fake. He took Hinamori's life to abuse her in many ways and try to kill her because she couldn't live without him. Totally abusive. Wow, I hate Aizen, he really disgusted me with what he did to Momo, she was his victim the whole time. She should never be hated, she is very realistic as a character.
Shinji has nearly no character development. The biggest character development he had was keeping the haircut Tosen gave him.
Comparatively, you can see and feel the effects of their exodus from SS in every other Vizard captain and not captain.
Let’s be real, momo’s durability is off the charts. Even kempachi is jealous. It’s only normal for her to be able to take more damage then Shinji.
Gin got into Aizen's group to get payback because Aizen stole most of Regocu's spirit energy (I can't remember her name but she's the current 10th division lieutenant who has the red hair and enormous boobs) She had latent captain level spirit energy and was really good/best friends with Gin. He only was "evil" to convince Aizen to let him be a part of his inner circle then betrayed Aizen during the fake Cararutown Invasion and attemted to kill him and steal the soul ball thingy but ultimately failed after coming very close.
If you look at the squads as governmental parts, I would see it as the 5th being the educational sector.

i love shinji but unfortunately i think he was a victim of his own power. unless you are dealing with aizen or an omnidirectional attack there's no getting around shinji's shikai.
if you are writing it in a realistic fashion you would probably get one-shot'ed most of the time due to the free hit it provides or unless get defeated before you can get used to its effects... which i dont think you'd ever be able to keep straight in your head.

I initially was curious about Aizen calling momo kun.
Alot of the thing you point to Aizen with the fifth also heavily apply to shinji as well, which go to show how well these characters fit in their divisions.the only thing separating Aizen and shinji is that one is completely selfish. hell even their ability's are similar.
i think shinji was suspicious of Aizen because they where so similar but that suspicion alone couldn't do anything to someone so well like.

@@MrTommo2304 true that, which doesn't make much sense to me since I'd expect them to be at least a bit stronger than most of the non Vizard equivalents in the Gotei 13, considering they were and in some cases are now again members of said organisation, and also have hollowfication abilities on top of Lt and Cpt class power/abilities to begin with, plus hundreds of years of experience XuX
