How is it underrated??? Tommo litterally states that it is the second to most popular to fans... and have one of the biggest winning rate of all the Gotei. ( winning in the sense of getting love from Kubo)
He's my favorite cause he's like that one guy who can be beaten by any captain level character, but at the same time, can beat any other character regardless of power if given the right info.
@@dsan17 Exactly that’s why I love Mayuri he doesn’t need a bunch of spiritual pressure or power he’s just dangerous with his technical skill and brains once he administers one of his drugs it’s game over for any opponent on a high power scale

*That weird moment you realize Mayuri used Szayaperrol's Phoenix transformation resurrection to make his Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō: Matai Fukuin ShōtaI, to modify it*
Feels like Mayuri's change of character was through the events he went through: 1) Uryu defeated Mayuri, teaching him humility and allowing Mayuri to learn to care a bit more. Through defeat, the gate that was blocking any compassion he may have had was opened, allowing him to progress in his growth as a character. 2) Yamamoto's death unleashing Mayuri. It could probably be implied that Yamamoto was holding Mayuri on a leash from going too crazy, hence why it felt that 12th division was a bit held back in terms of their advancements until TYBW arc. But when he was gone, Mayuri was free to do his own stuff. Also, Mayuri most likely respected the head captain despite the leash, so his anger could've been another motivation to step up.
Good point. I noticed this too once Yamamoto was killed. That interaction Mayuri had with aizen also wouldn't happen if Yamamoto was around. Shunsui fights dirty and Mayuri can fight dirty if he wants.i think in TYBW we saw shunsui give Mayuri far more leeway and responsibility that it actually turned out Mayuri was the MVP of the final arc. No one could see that coming.....
I wouldn’t be surprised if Senjumaru Shutara was also a captain of the 12th division. She mentioned being there previously and (correct me if I’m wrong) was cited as one of the few people alongside Kisuke Urahara and Mayuri as being capable of combining souls to create hybrid soul king candidates like Hikone
She created the Shihakusho tho, which we see all of the first generation Gotei 13 wearing, I think her promotion to the royal guard predates the existence of the Gotei 13 system.

Scientific and technological progress without ethics, it's Captain willing to be and do the worst to win and slate his curiosity, ironic then that some of the lesser ranked subordinates seem pretty normal to decent. To be expected in a world where anything goes for the sake of the status quo and it's stability. It's interesting how in CFYOW Mayuri pointed out that several historians vanished while trying to find out the dangerously taboo subject of Soul Society's origins, makes you wonder what he knows.
Even among the the Gotei-13, the 12th Division truly stands out mostly because of Mayuri. This is made even more remarkable by the fact he is probably one of the least impressive captains in turns of raw stats such as strength, speed, endurance, reitsu, and so forth. But where he more than makes up for it is with his sheer brilliance and ingenuity which makes him one of if the not the most dangerous Captains of the Gotei 13. I do not think it can be denied that Mayuri and the 12th Division were The Soul Society's MVP of the TYBW arc. And while I have some issues with choices made regarding Mayuri and in particular the fact that Ishida's grudge against him appeared to be dropped after the Soul Society Arc, Kubo provided us with one of the best examples of "necessary evil" I have ever seen.
23:50 don’t forget that they’re not just fighting an enemy they need to trick for just a moment so he doesn’t go to the soul society. They also have to consider the ramifications of suddenly switching a town with something else in the world of the living. Doing something recklessly will just cause unnecessary havoc in the living world Also, his holing up in his lab was likely also him creating Matai Fukuin Shotai. If it was only his work on Izuru and the Arrancar zombies, I don’t think Akon of all people would have been so horrified by what he saw
I think it is very fitting that since the Gotei 13 had stagnated ever since the first war with the Quincy, they were very unprepared to deal with the Vandenreich. The main exception to that was Squad 12, who are all about innovation and, to a lesser extent, are willing to do whatever is needed to win. That is a big reason why Mayuri and Kisuke were two of the biggest MVP's of the TYBW.
One thing that was not mentioned was the other Zero Division woman. She broke in to the 12th division to retrieve the broken zanpaktou. Mayuri makes a comment on her break in. She mentions that it was much more secure when she was there. This implies she was once the Captain of the 12th division.

I've always been curious about whether or not Urahara is worthy of a spot on Squad Zero. His willingness to take that position is a different story, but surely with everything he's contributed he'd be worthy right? His reformation of the Twelfth Division alone has had a massive impact on Soul Society, not to mention everything else he's created.
Nemu technically never dies simply because Mayuri saves her brain. She just gets a new name and body. If your brain was placed inside of a robot or something like that, you theoretically would not have died or been dead.
In the future, a video like this about the Kido Corps would be cool, though there isn't all too much info on it I'd still really enjoy it incase it ever gets elaborated on in the future
The first Gotei and the tenure of some of the known captains, as well as the idea that outside squad 11 captains don't die often, begs the question of are some Captains old enough for us to be able to connect them. Like we know squad 4 couldn't have had many. After the first one had to be Tenjiro before Unohana, giving us the full history of Squad 4 hypothetically. Squad 8 for instance. Shunsui is too old - first two students (with Ukitake) of Yamamoto's to become Captains - to be like the fourth or fifth Captain of Squad 8. I'm liking to think the 8th Squad woman was right before Shunsui and that motivated his closeness with Lisa who's clearly similar. Which back on subject, I'd believe someone could be between Hikifune and first guy, but - especially in her bigger form - that she's old enough to have been second 12th Captain. Maybe her love of food was shared with him? Her whole deal being food and him being so big, if that wasn't influenced by a young Hikifune herself. She was a renown Captain, she coulda easily been one a few hundred years minimum. Would be neat if the big guy being first, Hikifune was 2nd which lead to Urahara which lead to Mayuri. That'd be a fun lineage on it's own.
On the topic of Kira being revived by Mayuri, I would really like it if in the anime it's revealed the only reason Mayuri did this was because Nemu wanted to. Maybe we get to see that Kira was one of the few characters who ever had an actual conversation with Nemu. If memory serves me right, Nemu just like her father doesn't really associate with other people. (And the only person we ever see Nemu with was yachiru. Ironic since their captains don't see eye to eye)
It's probably my favourite squad, fleshed out fictional science is always cool to me especially conceits toward biology. I think why I like Kisuke and Mayuri more than other characters is that they always felt like they had a better sense of agency than most.
In the anime, Urahara appoints Kurotsuchi as his Vice-Captain when he offered his deal with Mayuri in the Maggots' Nest in Turn Of The Pendulum. So when Kisuke left SS, Kurotsuchi automatically and ceremoniously became the new captain of the 12th Division as well as President of the scientific research division with Akon as his Vice-Captain.
I actually felt like at first Mayuri was a unredeemable evil character and made the story little more unpredictable.....but they really toned him down to just being amoral...understandably though. Would have been cooler if he kinda went mad at some point.
Personally I always thought that the reason they were able to do more in the last arc was because the new head captain let them do what needed to be done...unlike Yamamoto who restricted many people Shinsui let them go all out because he saw the need to let them do what they saw fit to survive...just like what he did with Zaraki....but that's just me
Why is it never addressed again that Mayuri basically caused Uryu's Grandfather to die, and then experimented on his corpse until nearly nothing of it was left? Surely Uryu should look on him with contempt every time he sees him, but in Hueco Mundo it doesn't get mentioned. Maybe Uryu was too busy having his organs crushed to really care who his savior was, but still, I feel there should be some real hatred there that is never picked up on really. (Now keep in mind I say this not knowing all of the TYBW arc because I'm an anime only person so far.)
Bruhhh, he has forgiven mayuri a long time ago ever since he destroyed him in a fight... Uryu aint that bloodousted folk who always seeks for revenge. He values what his grandpa told him about maintaining a peaceful relationship with everyone even your enemies. Mayuri himself also doesn't care about Uryu. He is done with experimenting Quincy's. He wants to experiment orihime. He told Yamamoto about uryu and how dangerous he is and also the possibilities of other quincy survivors and another quincy war, yet he refrained himself of killing uryu alone back at hueco mundo... it's probably because Yamamoto himself ordered him not to touch any of ichigo's friends which is also the probable cause of why mayuri didn't pursue of getting orihime even tho we all know how greedy mayuri can be when he sees something he likes to experiment with. Also, even ywach and his elite sternritters doesn't care about the past so much. Heck, they even kill other Quincy's themselves with no remorse just like mayuri at SS arc. Uryu cares about Quincy's, hence why he betrayed ywach as ywach doesn't see quincy's as important to him... he just sees them as just a tool for his ambition. if course Uryu would focus more against ywach rather than mayuri as ywach is the bigger threat to the Quincy's,his friends and the world.
@@skreyao4898 I did say I didn't know much about TTYBL, thank your for that run down of future events. I'm glad I wasn't on the edge of my seat or anything.
Mopping the floor with Toshiro. Never seen such a one sided captain vs captain fight. Toshiro was lucky he attacked Gin while gins eyes were open. Otherwise Toshiro wouldn't have been made it past the soul society arc.
By looking at this now I'm totally understand Mayuri. By the end of the series, he was the All-in Embodiment of Division 12 and what had comes before him: 1- Senjumaru: Creator of Õken Clothing and Fake Royal Palace / Mayuri: Anti-Shadow (luminescent) Fabric and Fake Karakura Town 2- Hikofune: Creator of Gikon & Gigai / Mayuri: Created Nemu, Body and Zanpakutõ Modification 3- Uruhara: Inventor & Founder of SRDI / Mayuri: Carried Over Uruhara's Legacy and Revolutionised Its purposes.
Fun hypothetical for you. In the anime OP 2. There is a scene where Uryu is firing at Hitsugaya. What do you think a fight between those two would have looked like in the soul society arc? Could be a fun video or concept.
Note: I Think Ururu and Jinta are those first Nemuri Projects or the first Ashisogi Jizu and Urahara was asked to liberate them by Zero Squad, most likely Kirio Hikifune
If we take in the Bount arc ( i know many people don't like it and isn't canon) you also have Ran-Tao who seemed to be a scientist from the 12th division as well
Question timeline-wise: since we know that 1 year in Soul Society = 2 years in the human realm, whenever we get flashbacks like turn back the pendulum where it’s stated that the events were 100 years ago, is it safe to assume that it’s Soul Society years (that is, that Turn Back the Pendulum occurred 200 years ago in human years)?
@@golbez1583 Alright , Isshin was a captain in soul society 20 years before the main story takes place. Lets say Isshin and Masaki had Ichigo immediately, she didn't even carry him for 9 months and he was born instantly, that would make him 10 years old when Rukia gave her powers to him. By your theory of time. Hope this helps
@@redred1952 oh I get where the confusion is! So we know that the events of Everything But The Rain occurred 20 years prior to the present; however, because all relevant events occur in the human realm, then one can presume that this flashback is using human realm time rather than Soul Society time (i.e. assuming that what I said is correct, the time perceived to have passed between the events of Everything But The Rain & the present timeline are 20 years in the human realm & 10 years in Soul Society time). Anywho, I’m open to be wrong about time flow in the bleach world since it’s been so long. I think that the evidence for it is actually from one of his videos. I’ll link it if I find it.
God I love this division so much. Irl, these people (ESPECIALLY Mayuri jfc) would be on the absolute top of my shitlist but in fiction? They are so intriguing, hands down my favorite of the Gotei 13😩👌
Mayuri can’t die yet, his Bankai only reached chrysalis. We’ve still got to see it reach butterfly status, and I’m curious where the character will be when that’s achieved.
I've always wondered who made the decision to promote people to squad zero was it the central 46 was it the soul King himself was it the other members of squad zero It's just interesting to think about and if so after the events of the thousand Year blood war urahara should be promoted because of the hogoku like seriously it's probably the greatest singular invention after the zanpakto
It's might have been a good thing Hiyori ended up a Visored I can't imagine her staying with Mayuri as lieutenant of research and development after kisuke was banished
anyone can be there if soul society sees the person as a future threat. Akon is just like mayuri, he just not over the top character but he is still a mad scientist. Heck, he even uses vials of drugs when he fought hollows after tybw epilogue, when akon himself has his own zanpakuto.
@@kronosleblu888 It would've been cool to see but man it would suck for any characters that are in the general vicinity with all the poison that would be flung around.
for me my favorite in order is Akon,Kiske then yes Mayori. Don't get me wrong I like the big fish but Akon just feels oddly enough the most down to earth person that squads ever had.
Honestly, I still wish Mayuri had died during the Thousand Year Blood War and Nemu survived instead because her death in his service was infuriating as opposed to tragic. That, and for all the good he did, Mayuri is evil to the core and a more ethical captain can still do the same without the atrocities and war crimes. That being said, I'd say the Twelfth Division's evil is more or less a product of the Gotei 13's, and Soul Society's, true goals, which are not protecting people, but maintaining the unjust status quo at all costs. Finally, still holding out hope that Mayuri dies in a Hell Arc, and is dragged to Hell by the watchmen, hopefully Szayellaporro just for karma.

I actually felt like at first Mayuri was a unredeemable evil character and made the story little more unpredictable.....but they really toned him down to just being amoral...understandably though. Would have been cooler if he kinda went mad at some point.
Well I mean he kinda was mad in thr beginning.
@@Son.D.Lollipop kinda?😭😭bro was unhinged, did you see the way he dealt with nemu
@@Son.D.Lollipop he's always mad 💀
@@Hymn_ yes but by the end he was far less sadistic than he was at first showing
Mayuri is the best captain of Squad 12 and he always will be when people think of Squad 12 they think of Mayuri right away
Lol not the best but certainly one of the most prepared. He kills and experiments on his subordinates. So he's probably one of the worst.
@@Rhekon ANYTHING for the sake of the soul society.
That's his motto.
@@kronosleblu888 Something Shunsui also says and lives by
Personally I always thought that the reason they were able to do more in the last arc was because the new head captain let them do what needed to be done...unlike Yamamoto who restricted many people Shinsui let them go all out because he saw the need to let them do what they saw fit to survive...just like what he did with Zaraki....but that's just me
Your pronunciation is getting better over the years man!!! Love your videos

Mayuri trolling Toshiro
Mopping the floor with Toshiro.
Never seen such a one sided captain vs captain fight.
Toshiro was lucky he attacked Gin while gins eyes were open. Otherwise Toshiro wouldn't have been made it past the soul society arc.
Kisuke was so good at his job Hiyori even got to event something for the visords.
Mayuri didn't need to get killed in TYBW - what's the point when almost all quincies who would care about his crimes are dead?

Thank you happy christmas best wishes to you and your family
MY MAIN MAN MAYURI!!!!!
By looking at this now I'm totally understand Mayuri. By the end of the series, he was the All-in Embodiment of Division 12 and what had comes before him:
1- Senjumaru: Creator of Õken Clothing and Fake Royal Palace / Mayuri: Anti-Shadow (luminescent) Fabric and Fake Karakura Town
2- Hikofune: Creator of Gikon & Gigai / Mayuri: Created Nemu, Body and Zanpakutõ Modification
3- Uruhara: Inventor & Founder of SRDI / Mayuri: Carried Over Uruhara's Legacy and Revolutionised Its purposes.
Merry Christmas!
Thanks for your videos, always entertaining.
Thank you for this Tommo!
If we take in the Bount arc ( i know many people don't like it and isn't canon) you also have Ran-Tao who seemed to be a scientist from the 12th division as well
It'd be funny to see someone photoshop Mayuri without his makeup through out the whole series lol.
He's quite handsome without his makeup.
Merry Christmas Tommo! Much love bro!
Then Ichigo would be 7-8 years old when the story starts...
@@redred1952 I know you don’t want to hear this outside of math class, but you’re gonna have to show me your work here.
So we know that the events of Everything But The Rain occurred 20 years prior to the present; however, because all relevant events occur in the human realm, then one can presume that this flashback is using human realm time rather than Soul Society time
(i.e. assuming that what I said is correct, the time perceived to have passed between the events of Everything But The Rain & the present timeline are 20 years in the human realm & 10 years in Soul Society time).
Anywho, I’m open to be wrong about time flow in the bleach world since it’s been so long. I think that the evidence for it is actually from one of his videos. I’ll link it if I find it.
great video, thankx.
The best division
God I love this division so much. Irl, these people (ESPECIALLY Mayuri jfc) would be on the absolute top of my shitlist but in fiction? They are so intriguing, hands down my favorite of the Gotei 13😩👌
Merry Christmas.
Mayuri can’t die yet, his Bankai only reached chrysalis. We’ve still got to see it reach butterfly status, and I’m curious where the character will be when that’s achieved.
My best division of all time.
I've always wondered who made the decision to promote people to squad zero was it the central 46 was it the soul King himself was it the other members of squad zero
It's just interesting to think about and if so after the events of the thousand Year blood war urahara should be promoted because of the hogoku like seriously it's probably the greatest singular invention after the zanpakto
Mad scientists, mad scientists everywhere...;)
Merry Christmas, Bleach gang! May Your decorations be as bright and colorful as Mayuri’s brain.
The 12th contains both my favourite character (Kisuke) and most hated (Mayuri) so it's an interesting one
20:41 Tommo: Kubo likes to be cyclical like that.
Me: emphasize the "sick" in "cyclical" . . . .
It's might have been a good thing Hiyori ended up a Visored

now the question remains is that why kid Akon was in the Meggots nest?
anyone can be there if soul society sees the person as a future threat.
Akon is just like mayuri, he just not over the top character but he is still a mad scientist.
Heck, he even uses vials of drugs when he fought hollows after tybw epilogue, when akon himself has his own zanpakuto.
You should do a complete analysis on Askin Nakk Le Vaar.
I really do wish askin didn't run away from Mayuri. Would have been such a cool fight.

Do we ever see maiori without the face paint
We do after Uryu beats him and Mayuri regenerates
My favorite division
for me my favorite in order is Akon,Kiske then yes Mayori. Don't get me wrong I like the big fish but Akon just feels oddly enough the most down to earth person that squads ever had.
Mayuri, komomura , and grimmjow/Ulquiorra are the coolest characters in the series
The twelfth division seems like very great candidates for zero squads.
first love your stuff brother
