Update #12 | We Bought a Cabin on a Ship 🚢 | Departure Delayed

- Опубликовано: 15 сен 2024
- 🚢Due to an unviable risk assessment, our boarding has been delayed until at least 08/28/24 ⏳, and we’re now waiting on certifications. With hotels in Belfast fully booked 🏨, residents are being temporarily relocated to Amsterdam and other locations temporarily ✈️. Villa Vie is committed to taking care of everyone ❤️. In the meantime, we’ll be staying in Johan’s hometown in Sweden 🇸🇪. Our journey will now kick off in Germany to pick up essential equipment. Stay tuned for more updates! 📅
You guys are taking this better than I would. If it were me, I could see myself getting bitter and frustrated, and worried about the solvency of the company at this point. The eventual possible sailing reminds me a bit of Charlie Brown’s The Great Pumpkin, though I hope to be wrong. I am enjoying your videos and updates and will continue to follow your journey!
I see your point and appreciate your thoughts. Welcome aboard and thanks for watching!
You guys are handling this better than I would be. Hopefully you guys are able to set sail soon and have a lot of fun.
Thanks we will try to. We’re making the most of the delays and are enjoying ourselves.
You guys have so much patience- I would be freaking - best of luck hope it all works out
Thanks for the support!
I'm excited for you guys and all the other residents! We are rooting for you all!
Thank you very much!
Good luck, "the check is in the mail"!!
Thanks for watching!
I really don't think this ship is going to sail. Im sorry for you all having the time taken from you. I'm glad your not worried, I'm worried for all of you
Thanks for caring.
Almost there!!! Your patience will make it all worth it and the bonding between all of the villa vie staff and guests will be something special indeed. You have put in your hearts to make this dream a reality.
We truly have met som incredible people and the staff has been fantastic. We’re so looking forward to seeing the world with this crowd.
Hang in there guys! Once you get on the high seas all of this will have been worth it. 🥰
Wow, thanks for the support.
Hang in there! The place you’re currently at seems like an absolutely beautiful and idyllic place!! A lovely place to relax while waiting to sail. ❤
It really is!
If the Villa Vie company had a strong financial backing, I wonder why they didn't wait until the vessel was cruise ready before selling cabins and especially the ones that were permanent. Unless the passenger's investment is the company's financial backing? I would think the most frustrating part of this whole fiasco are the dates for promised boarding, promised sail dates and cabin ready move in's. At this point, it looks as though the spokesperson that issues these dates to residence would learn to stop making empty promises. It would give me pause to sail for an extended time with a staff that is so wrong so many times in a row. Good luck!
a lot of that backing money is being spent sending people all over the place and paying for hotels
@@junejune1031 oh wait, they may not have a home to return to, as they sold it to live on the ship. UGH.
@@karengreenlee4356really? Doesn't sound like a smart move selling your home. Theyvmay end up homeless. This company doesn't seem sound.
Four months of promises. I am praying that this will be the last time you get an update with no good news.
I think your patience is commendable. Hopefully not long now for you.
The middle of next week is soon! Enjoy your family in the meantime.
Yes! Thank you!
Thank you for the update. I love how you guys are like a family. I imagine, as your journey progresses through the years there will be down times such as these, where the ship will need some extra TLC. I'm really happy for you.
Thank you so much!
You have a good attitude and will experience something truly special.
We sure hope so and thanks for watching!
Thanks for keeping all of us updated. I wish you guys all the best.

Good morning. That is good news you have about your ship. Enjoy your weekend. 🛳️🍀🙏🇨🇦
Thank you! You too!
@@livinglifeonacruise Thank you, soon finishing work for the day !!!!
I watch another RUclips channel that was able to negotiate for an unobstructed ocean view upgrade, have you considered negotiating for room without a lifeboat obstructing view? At this point they kind of owe you 😊
Thanks so much for that update, figers crossed! ❤🤞🙏🚢🛳
So three weeks ago we only had 350 followers, mainly friends, family and people we’ve come across traveling.
We’re quite surprised that we have grown so rapidly.
Our videos are pretty simple and shot on the go. I, Johan, am trying to learn how to edit the videos.
So we don’t really consider ourselves professional “RUclipsrs”
At least the fire doors have been taken care of. Mid-week boarding seems optimistic but it's all part of the adventure. You still will have plenty of time on the ship in the next three years. I have read that the owners have established lines of credit. I imagine they are still paying crew. They have completed a lot of work so far, I am amazed they have been able to do as much as they have.
Yes they have completed a lot of work. I agree the timeline might seem optimistic but they have the info and that’s the only thing we can go by.
There is a lot to do and see in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Yes it’s been a great time and we’ve toured extensively.
With any expedition your going to face things that will be hard to navigate; however, you're well equipped and dealing with these challenges very professionally, I'm looking forward to following your journey. Fairwinds.
Thank you very much much for your kind words of wisdom. Thanks for watching and welcome aboard!
Not a cruise ship expert, but just based on what you said there is absolutely no you will be on board next week. 2 weeks to fix, one week to inspect, one week sea trials, one week public health inspection, one week to fix, one week final inspections. I am guessing two months out.
Possibly but I’m not a ship expert either so I’m just relaying managements estimate.
Get out while you can. RUN
Reminds me of a contractor I once used to build a deck. He got 90% done in a week, then took 3 months to finish the last 10%.
Sounds like my bathroom remodel. Snails pace.
I worked in construction and it seemed like the last “week “ always took at least three weeks to finish.
Appreciate your content. Started following you right as you got "famous". Wife and I were more than curious about the residences as we are avid cruisers, love travel, and hate to fly. It's something that we are thinking about in another 12-24 months, and appreciate the fact that we get to learn from y'all.. the pioneers. Enjoyed the little look of Johan home town. Hoping the sea trials go well, and your bon voyage is soon to come.
Yeah, follow us along and you’ll get a feel if this is something for you guys. Who knows we might be neighbors one day. Thanks for watching and welcome aboard!
Fingers crossed for you! I’ve got several years before retirement, but I’m following this journey with hope that I can one day join.
You can do it!
Fingers crossed 🤞

Thanks for your video's , may I suggest you make a short video to explain that the comment about Belfast was truly in jest and apologize. I can only imagine how hard this has been for you both. I hope you get sailing soon. Take care.
Agreed! I live in Belfast. Its a fabulous wee city with so much going on
Of course it was in jest. We’ve had a great time here and meet a lot of wonderful people. It was just a joke about being stuck in one place/harbor way longer than expected.
myob!
You dont get to tell them what to do, its their channel!! 🤬
Why on earth should they have to explain their comment and apologize? What an absurd request lol.
I’d give it thru next week. If that craps out, I’d call an attorney.
Thanks for your advice and thanks for watching!
Thank you for the update. I really enjoy watching both of you. Praying that soon you’ll be able to get into your cabin. Please keep the videos coming. Blessings and hugs.
Thank you! Will do!
Just enjoy the time with your family and friends while you can, before you know it you will be off enjoying cruising all over the world, you two are very lucky and I look forward to seeing your adventures.stay relaxed what will be will be.

I hope you're able to get this adventure underway very soon. You've been really patient, and i'm really glad to see that you've been able to go to your hometown to visit
I’m very happy to be able to do that. Thanks for watching!

There sure is and we’re rolling with it. Thanks for watching!
I know these delays have to be frustrating, but you two seem to be handling it well. I'm looking forward to watching your updates once your voyage gets underway.

Thanks for your concern and thanks for watching!
Thanks for the update, hang in there guys...fingers crossed! ❤🤞🙏🚢🛳
Fingers crossed, for sure!
That was a very pejorative comment about Belfast . It is a capital city and attracts many weekend visitors as a starter for that reason . This weekend Aug 23 to 26 is the late Summer Bank Holiday weekend , the actual BH is Monday . People in the UK often go away for a Bank Holiday of which there are only 8 all year ! Northern Ireland attracts a lot of visitors for the Game of Thrones tour and many visit for the Titanic Museum . Just a few reasons this weekend may busy in a city of which you suggested “who would want to go to Belfast? “
How rude
We love the game of thrones and have done a few tours. Lanette was just making a joke about being in Belfast for so long as it’s been rainy. Don’t take it personally. We have enjoyed our time there.
What a big celebration when you finally set sail!, stay safe ❤❤
Yes it sure will be!
In retrospect, Im wondering if Villa Vie would have gotten the ship ready prior to selling villas. It has to be getting expensive for them to be supporting passengers while still prepping the ship. I'd be starting to worry about the viability of my investment at this point.
Of course the delays hurt financially but never sail I think they’re offering a good product/service.
@@livinglifeonacruiseI would be nervous.
New condos start unit presales before there is a ground breaking and delays are not unusual.
@@Luke22022 have you seen the ship?
Before you know it, you'll be sailing away on your great adventure! Woooohooooo!
Can't wait!
New subscriber here, after reading iin the french news the story about your cruise ship stuck in Belfasr. Wish you good luck!❤🇨🇵
Thank you! 😃
People are saying the company is flaky because of the delays, however most of the major cruise lines have had delays in launching their ships, including Sun Princess Feb 2025, Carnival Jubilee in 2023, Virgin's Brillant Lady now delayed until sometime 2025, Royal Caribbean Star of the Seas delayed until late Aug 2025, Royal Caribbean Odyssey of the Seas, MSC Explora I and II, to mention a few. You are getting close and there is really nothing that the management can do to rush the process. They are at the mercy of the inspecting agencies and the contractors working on the ship. It is hard to be patient, but you and the other youtubers have done just that. I would love to do this when my husband retires in 2-5 years. I watch your videos with envy and wish you all the best in your new adventure!
Thank you so much for sharing all that. It really gives everyone a different perspective on this whole situation. We appreciate your support and welcome aboard!
@@rebeccahowell6538 Actually Princess cancelled the Sun Princess the first time at 2 weeks out and then the 2nd time at 5 days out. We were on the 3rd cruise which turned out to be the 1st and the ship was not ready for passengers. The 2nd week passengers were screwed on their compensation. We made the best of a stressful situation and ended up having a great trip. I do agree that the management of Villa Vie way underestimated the time, effort and $$ required to prepare this ship. It should have had a complete remodel of the rooms prior to people moving in. It is stuck in the 80s in the rooms and public areas. For the people who sold everything and bought in, I am very hopeful for them that the ship is underway soon and they get what they purchased. I'm still jealous of their opportunity.
@@rebeccahowell6538 I just got of the Regal August 7th (British Isles and Ireland). It was a great cruise and liked this ship better than the Sun. I just did not care for the Sun's layout (very small spaces for a lot of people and very choppy - just not my favorite). I'm on Enchanted at the end of the week and again in December.
Thanks for the Update. I would not be as Patient or Positive as you both.
Not everyone is but we’re having a good time during this time.

Thanks for the update. I’m excited for you! 😀❤️
Yay! Thank you!
If the people giving the updates said it sails on the 1st of January youd be up in arms
It should be broken down to you just what is being done and why ??
That ship is 30 years old
I sailed on HMS Fearless
A cracking ship
But its whole life span was jus about 44 years
Thats around double what it should of been expected to do
So you work it out !
If they gave you a A4 paper with a clear break down you could go away and do some research
We got told once that we would be in dry dock for 6 weeks
Took double that in the end
Thanks for sharing.
We will sail when the ship sails. Until then we’re enjoying life, traveling to different countries. Meeting interesting people, learning about different cultures and trying local dishes. That is the same thing we intend to do when we’re finally cruising. We will still enjoy our life every day whether this ship sails tomorrow or next year!
Nice that while you wait, you can be with family. 😀- Michelle

Well established cruiselines have around the world cruises. Why not go with one of them?
Probably because they cost three times what this one did.

From thousands of items down to 40-50, it’s getting close
We sure hope so.
If they had prebooked dates for ports around the world, as surely would be the case, and had to postpone them due to delays, they will lose money on that, and have to repay again for new dates, which it seems still can’t be guaranteed. You can’t just turn up at ports when and wherever you want, and expect them to pander to your needs. Doesn’t work that way.
something is definitely not being told to the purchasers...
I’ll go with Charlene’s reply on this one.

I'd be starting to get slightly alarmed. I have no idea why they would start offering cabins until the ship was seaworthy and ready to sail.
They needed the upfront monies from the cabin sales to help fix things…
It’s a startup.

"Who wants to go to Belfast"?
Hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. Ten's of thousands of visitors who disembark cruise ships that actually sail the sea and countless others from the island of Ireland who enjoy day trips to the city. They all want to "go to Belfast".
Don't take your obvious concerns and doubts out on a city that I am sure has welcomed you and has had that tub blighting it's landscape for more months than it ever thought imaginable and by the looks of things for many more to come.
Hi, we’ve had a great time in Belfast and surrounding areas and met a lot of friendly locals. She was referring to being stuck on a ship in Belfast harbor for longer than expected.
@livinglifeonacruise have you tried the Game of thrones tour? If you watched the show it would be a great place to go for a day and buses leave from the port in Belfast for the cruise ship passengers. I can understand you getting a bit bored stuck in a town where it's mostly shopping or pubs but N.Ireland has so much more to offer and they should be putting on bus trips for people. You should all be moved outside belfast over the weekend and spend that time exploring the rest of Ireland.

I feel that the constant delays are deeper than they let you know. It would anger me to no end if stops and my year on the ship were being taken up by THEIR inability to have their ship ready! I would be in court!
Since we plan on staying on the ship for the long haul we’re not worried about missed ports. We can visit them on the next go around. Others might of course feel differently. Thanks for watching!
I smell a “Special Assessment” coming. Be prepared…
Sure hope not.
My initial thought was who is going to pay for port charges as you travel to ports around the world ? If you could explain that to me I would like to hear about it because I know that cruise ships leave right on time as they must pay for their time in the port.
Villa Vie is paying those, it’s included in the price. If you want more information regarding ports I’d suggest you contact them directly. Thanks for watching!
What's become of the original port schedule? Is there any way to learn where the ship will be ninety days from now?
See Rebecca’s reply.
Just curious..
Are the CEO and the folks arranging all of this, the people who took your money, are they traveling with you when you set sail?
At what point do you decide being on this ship out in the middle of waters may not be safe?
And what you signed up for, is there any clause that would allow you to get your money back?
The reason I ask is that the organizers can't sustain this kind of money spent on accommodating people for months, I see a bankruptcy in their future..
So if you can get out, get out!
yes i see bankruptcy as well! i wish them luck!
Thanks for your concern. They do have a cabin buy back program but we believe in the management team and will stay put.
yes I would be jumping ship NOW
I know everyone has thoughts about the delays, but for me it’s called “life”. Maybe they were a little premature in their dates but the bottom line is you want the ship completed, safe, and passing all inspections/certifications. I’m glad you see how we look at it!
Hopefully sea trials soon!

Good luck. It is interesting to follow your journey and the ups and downs of some a new adventure. Must be challenging to keep positive amid uncertainty. One question I have is if you leave the ship for some reason say for a month or two once you get going and you can't rent out your place or don't want to----what is your financial obligation. Do you still have to pay the monthly charges just like if I am at home and I still have to pay my bills etc. whether I am home or not. Do they discount that by the food portion or how does that work?
We will still have to pay our monthly fee when we’re off the ship at length.

My question is this: If everyone on the ship will be permanently residing on the ship, why are there ports that have to be skipped? Is there a reason that you cannot just go there later? Also, are you two feeling worried or concerned about how it’s all progressing at all?
Not everyone is residing on the ship permanently. Ports are being skipped to catch up with the initial itinerary. Of course we would like to be sailing right now but we will soon enough. Thanks for watching!

@@livinglifeonacruise I don't think you are being scammed. I worry that the folks in charge may not have the best project management skills. This is a start-up, but timelines and costs to refurb ships are well know and established and I would think be easy to benchmark by VV leaders. I think VV's planning was not done properly and what was done was performed by managers with rose-colored lenses. I'm guessing all the folks involved in the build out are good people who have dreams; but, I think they would benefit by hiring some skilled logistics and project experts and get their house and ship in order. Are you investors in the company, or just fare paying passengers like you would be on a major cruise line? At the very least, I think all investors/passengers are entitled to see the audited financial statements of the owners. You need to know if they are financially stable.

Are passengers still expected to pay the monthly fee each month?
No not until launch
I really hate all the negative comments. Anybody who has ever built or remodeled a house will understand how permits and inspections can delay a project even more than a week, and the contractor can promise all he wants but it totally depends on the inspectors getting there. And it’s beyond the contractor’s and your control. The contractor’s estimates are not lies, but inspections can make delays. That is what is happening with this boat. To those who believe it’s going to take longer than the latest estimate, yes it could. But to those who keep saying it’s a scam or fraud, please take your negativity elsewhere. Telling them they will be homeless, etc, does nobody any good, and it’s actually mean to them, and completely unpleasant for all viewers. Yes, you can say anything you want. But understand, that kind of comment shows what kind of person YOU are- do you really want that on the internet forever? It takes a certain amount of courage to do what they are doing, the company AND the customers. They are in this together as pioneers in the cruising industry. So stop with the negativity, sitting in your nice cozy chair being “brave” telling people they are going to fail.
You totally nailed it. We really appreciate your comment. Thank you very much!
Its like whete people have brought homes of a plan paid big deposit then the company goes under i have a bad feeling if they were a secure company they would of had the ship done before taking bookings it sounds like they are living from day to day i hope iam wrong but i think everyone is going to loose there money as i think this company will go under
I’m sorry you think that way.
We have confidence in Villa Vie and the management team!
Shouldn’t all of these things have been done prior to your arrival on the ship? Is that not a serious question you are asking? And by the way, your comment on Belfast was way out of order!
Yes of course they should have. Also the Belfast comment was made in jest. We’ve had some great times in Belfast, it was more about being stuck in the same place too long.
@@livinglifeonacruise I understand that this is a huge financial commitment for you, but surely you have to be questioning the business practice of this company. Those of us looking at your situation are shaking our heads in disbelief and the fact that you are essentially covering for this company is extremely worrisome. Also, there was nothing jestful in the Belfast comment.
Calm down
You must be worried some will state the obvious, that hotels have been taken over by migrants. Now its been said 😁
@@dreamrider2126a joke makes folk laugh, the Belfast comment offended many. I’ve never been to Ireland or Northern Ireland and would LOVE TO, all I hear about the, are their beauty…my neighbour is from there and travels to her family there often.
I would remove the comment as someone else suggested.
There really Air BnB’s that maybe cheaper than hotels to stay in too, unless they are all booked up, as, like most are saying, Belfast is VERY popular.
It is a great idea in concept, but doesn’t appear to be sustainable.
We sure hope and believe it will be.
How come some allowed in their cabins?
We’re allowed to get our cabins set up. But can not sleep there.
