Thank you so much for these videos. My husband is only 70 and he never believed he had dementia. I had been able to care for him and manage his care at home until last month on our 49th anniversary. He was fixated on buying an old truck and I told him we couldn’t do that right now. I was actually scared for my safety. He has been in the hospital for a month and the doctor said he doesn’t believe he can ever live at home again and needs to go to memory care. My heart is broken and I miss him so much. Nobody knows what you are going through. Everyone tells me You’re a strong woman, you’ll be okay. I just want to scream and say I’m not okay with this. It’s so unfair and he doesn’t deserve to have this horrible disease. Nobody does,

My hubby was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2020, passed in 2023 from congestive heart failure. He went to sleep and never woke up. He died exactly as he hoped.
Dementia is a soul sucking illness for all involved and many states don't support the caregiver.

I have realized that my husband’s unpleasant Lewy Body Dementia symptoms are fueled by anxiety. It takes a lot of medication to fight the waves of anxiety to allow for more normalcy in his behavior. Most people don’t have a clue what it’s like to be married without a real partnership. I see the changes in both of our husbands in our own faces. Ehug, Dementia Sister.

I found my friends are afraid of this Dementia diagnosis as we are in the older age group and when I join them in social times they don’t understand what I am going through caregiving. One day a week I go to Dementia support group and say what I need to say to people who understand. Then when I meet up with friends, we can just be “normal” in social interactions that they are comfortable doing

Thank you for this. My husband watched with me and really listened to Jason and could relate. My husband has declined a lot recently. He has swallowing issues and gets more confused now. He also is sleeping during the day and getting up a lot at night. He had a hospice assessment a few weeks ago but did not meet criteria as he was deemed to be stage 6 . So we carry on through the fog. I cried with you when you mentioned Jason’s intelligence. That is the worst thing. My husband was a brilliant architect with a Master’s from Rice. Closing his design studio nearly destroyed me. But fourteen years later we are still here doing the best we can on a daily basis. Bless you hoth❤

There are many hospice teams in cities. If one does not accept that your loved one is in need of hospice, get a second or third assessment from another team from another office. The swallowing problems alone should qualify him. My family had the same experience, one week we got an assessment from one hospice office and they said no, a week later our loved one was approved by the second hospice team we called in . Keep advocating for your loved one.

Thank you for continuing to share your journey. My husband just died in July after nearly 17 years of dementia with me being his 24/7 caregiver til the last several months. I think trying to reason with Jason as to why he shouldn't be spending money on things he doesn't need is admirable. But at this stage you might want to just remove his access to spending. Hard to do but necessary as he's farther along now. You naturally want to preserve his dignity but hoarding is never a good thing and takes its toll. Eating less and sleeping more were segways for my husband into the final stage. That last stage was the quickest. His aggression and wandering made it impossible for me to care for him at home anymore. And as much as I wanted to keep him at home, he ended up in hospice in a care home. Very sad for me and for him as well. Stay strong Leslie, we're all here for you. XX

Thank you so much for doing these videos. I am my father’s sole caregiver. I never fully understood Dementia until going through this with my father. It’s an awful disease. You literally watch your loved one slowly disintegrate before your eyes. I have siblings but they offer no help so it’s just me. it’s such a difficult thing to live through alone that I actually thought I was losing my mind a few times. Because I was in such a bad place I went searching for anything to help, which is how I found your videos.. I also joined a Facebook support group which has been tremendously helpful as well. Leslie you are correct about being vigilant and informed in our own health care. We must advocate for our own treatments. Thank God that you understood what is and what is not acceptable to Jason regarding his medication, doses, changed etc. Cymbalta when used for its intended purpose, is still a serious drug that needs to be monitored. Drugs that affect brain response should only be prescribed with a detailed medical history. I am surprised that this health care worker was not aware of the repercussions of mixing serotonin medications without clear research and knowledge. With so many shortages in the health care system, mistakes can happen. Even in times of best scenario health care, Mistakes can happen. It is so important to understand what meds and therapies are appropriate for each individual patient. Leslie you and Jason are truly children of God. You have always acknowledged the faith that you both have in Jesus. Jason, I have followed your journey since you first talked about it in public. You are an intelligent and articulate person. Obviously you were blessed with very high intelligence. I pray for you my friend. I pray for Leslie, your daughters, your little grands and all your family and friends. I call you friend because, I often pause and wonder how you and Leslie in that moment in time. I have so much empathy, respect and love for the both of you. You two are true examples of commitment and honor in times of adversity . I try to understand the frustration, the sorrow and the loneliness of your truth. I pray for you and I pray for a cure for this insidious disease. You and Leslie show such dignity and love while navigating a path that there but for the grace of God... Please, please ignore the people who always have a criticism or insensitive comment. They have to live with their own bitter and ugly heart. Tearing people down will never build oneself back up. I'm sorry its so long. I truly want to tell you both that so very many of your viewers, feel like we are your friends. I guess that it is always a good think when we think of others as friends, even though we've never met. Thank you so, so much for what you are doing. This is the only place I have found where you can see the day to day things that are happening. So many sites are clinical and, as you say, they always talk about memory, memory, memory. I can’t tell you how many times I have found myself saying “Yes!! That is exactly it!!” to one of your videos. Our doctor feels that my husband has entered the middle stages of early onset dementia but my husband will not admit that he has any issues. He has been referred to a neurologist twice and he refuses to go. Because he will not admit that he has a problem, I find myself isolated. I can’t tell anyone about it because it would upset him if he heard about it. I have told our children. Our daughter who lives in the same town can clearly see the issues. Our sons who live further away don’t see it. I tried to tell a friend once and she just said that he seems fine to her. (can you say Show Timing) Anyway, I wanted you to know that you are my lifeline. I know it is hard to make these videos and that people can be stupid in the comments but I really appreciate what you are doing.

My husband was exactly the same way as yours. He wouldn't admit anything was wrong. He wouldn't go to a doctor. I told him that he possibly had a brain tumor that could be fixed but he still said no. After awhile he had some other issues and I called his MD and made an appointment. Meanwhile I got on my chart and explained to his doctor what I was seeing. He checked him, ask questions and started him on Aricept and Lexapro for his moods and it made him more manageable. At that time others didn't realize what was going on. There comes a time when you can't hide it anymore. I pray you will be able to get him to a doctor soon even if you have to lie a bit. Sometimes you have no choice.

It’s a horrible disease for the patient. But also for the caregiver. So nice to see Jason still has his wit and sense of humor. We all love you both. Take care of you too!! I hope you both enjoy the concert! Let us know how it went. 🙏❤️

I know it truly breaks your heart to see Jason not be able to be as he once was. My husband had Altzheimers and there is a definite difference. He never seemed to be able to know what was happening whereas Jason does and is able to articulate how he feels about things. How he is able to handle it is amazing. He is personality plus and such a nice person. I know it isn't always that way for you. Any form of dementia is so heartbreaking. We are so advanced and can do so much when it comes to other things. I just pray that one day there is more that can be done to prevent others from going through this! Love you and Jason.

The reality of his brilliance and where he is now and how he is doing and that he is willing to share this journey with us is so remarkable. The two of you together, figuring it out, dealing with the day to day and then letting us have a small insight into your lives is just incredible. You are helping so many and giving voices to others that are struggling and feel alone. THANK YOU!!!

Love you both! Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
P.S. Remember that you are ministering to warriors as well. We all face the battlefield of the mind, but Jason has a unique, divine assignment.

My Dad was always a strong man. Worked in the woods until his 80s. It was so hard to watch him get weak due to congestive heart failure topped with dementia. The constant repeating and fixation on certain things was difficult, but nothing as difficult as when he forgot who I was. I'm so sorry you are going through this at such a young age. My Dad was in his late 80s early 90s when the dementia started.

What I deal with is gearing up to go out and be with a small group every other Thursday. When I get their I really am not in the mood to talk much. I can't imagine what you must be feeling, Jason. My life was changed in a single moment of time 23 years ago in a horrific auto accident, leaving me paralyzed. I went from having several talents and abilities to virtually nothing... instantly. I wouldn't wish any of these debilitating conditions on anyone, but if I'd had the choice, I'd choose to lose my mental capacity ahead of my physical. When your physical abilities are taken, it's like being trapped in a machine that no longer works while still having your full cognizant fortitude.

My step father passed many years ago - but the reason was from LBD (Lewey Body Dimensia). when you spoke of the desire they have to spend and buy, it brought back so many memories. My dad would constantly make my mother, who was his caregiver at the time, drive through one car lot after another looking for new cars. 🙄 They couldn't afford it, but it became like an OCD issue along with buying flashlight batteries.🙄 After he passed in the care center, my mother had drawer after drawer in the house as well as boxes of various size batteries. I know it may sound comically sweet, but in the moment, it can be very trying. My prayers are with both you and Jason. May all the days you have together ALWAYS have snippets of your lasting love for one another.
    God bless you from Missouri

Thank you for sharing. My husband has dementia and we are still trying to find a mood stabilizer for him. The walking on egg shells is my present life. My husband has had two TBI’s and therefore I don’t think we get the help we need from doctors. I have been told by several doctors that he has Post concussive syndrome and there is only so much they can do. We have finally gotten into a new psychiatrist and we are working to stabilize his moods. I realize that we can’t change his dementia diagnosis, but all I want for my husband is to be happy and not ridden with anxiety. It is a vicious cycle. When he is severely anxious it impacts his cognitive functioning.

I’m devastated and don’t have people to talk to. Not really . It’s too much, and I am beyond overwhelmed. Biggest problem is that I am sick, and that can’t be changed. I’ve been sick with late stage Lyme disease, for 35 years. Among other things. He has been my caregiver before all this. Now it’s my turn to care for us both. Words can NOT express how grateful I am for you giving of yourself to educate us. I am going through this right now with my husband, however I have NO support. Because for the most part when he goes to the doctor he presents as NORMAL they tell me there is nothing wrong. He went from the smartest most loving gentle person to literally behaving like a child and frequently gets so aggressive I have to leave for fear what he may do to me. He never leaves his bed, sleeps most of the day or watches tv all day. He is completely unable to recall what you tell him minutes before.
