  • Hey Everyone, I wanted to figure out a way to operate my hot tub during a fir ban so I came up with this idea. I cut some holes into a wood stove and ran a copper coil through it essentially creating a water heater in an enclosed firebox. This is compliant with Stage 1 fire ban restrictions.

    Definition of "Off-Grid": Off-the-grid or off-grid is a characteristic of buildings and a lifestyle designed in an independent manner without reliance on one or more public utilities. The term "off-the-grid" traditionally refers to not being connected to the electrical grid, but can also include other utilities like water, gas, and sewer systems, and can scale from residential homes to small communities.

    Not even a minute into this video, and the picture of that copper pipe wound around that stove pipe gave me an idea. Copper pipe wound tight and fastened to that stove pipe, then fill the stove pipe with lit charcoal. You would need holes for air in the stove pipe, but was just thinking that might be an efficient design. Sorry, but that's one reason why I watch your videos, I get ideas to try......maybe.

      Great idea, Doug! I'd like to mess with the heat source a bit more this fall once temps cool down so I'll give that a shot to see how things turn out. I love that my videos give you ideas to try, keep the suggestions coming! Have a great evening ~ Brian

    THAT JB WELD comes in a putty stick as well that's a little easier to work with and sets much faster. I used it to patch a dime sized hole in the valve cover on my boat engine and it never failed. 🐂🤠🐂

      @@OffGridBackcountryAdventures Yeah, they do, or did back then. They also have the underwater set and they all pretty much set in 5 minutes. I had to get the high heat from a little hardware store locally but not sure about the big stores.

    Great video 👍 Bryan. Just a thought wrap that coil around the first chimney pipe and put a larger pipe over the copper coil. Put a cap around the first inner and over the coil and larger pipe to trap the heat. Just an idea for next time. Great videos 👍👍.

      @@OffGridBackcountryAdventures Yeah, the stove holes are much less critical (contain 🔥 sparks) than the holes in the stock tank that have to remain water tight. ✌️

    Nice job on the new hot water stove. Would love to see you make a solar heater for it during summer. Get some black hose and lay it all out in the sun and a small pump to circulate is all youd need during day time. But the stove works great in colder times and night

      Hey Jonny! Hope your summer is starting off on a great note! Yeah, I plan to add that eventually but haven't had a chance to order the materials yet. Honestly, with these rising temps I'm thinking the tub will primarily be a cool plunge until temps start to cool off in the fall. I stopped running the stove a few days ago and a mid day plunge in cool water is NICE right about now!

      @OffGridBackcountryAdventures  2 года назад

      Yeah, I have a small pond pump which circulates the water at 550 gallons per hour. I might get a smaller one that is solar powered....at the moment I'm running an extension cord out to the tub. Glad to report there aren't any two legged snakes poking around my property. It's really nice to have such solitude out here, I love it!
