Dude I love your covers of the songs that never officially got onto the recorded english track, since I was a tad dissapointed they never got covered, and now they are! Keep up the great work, man 👌🏻

if i'm not mistaken, this takes place after the first verse of _the way it ends_? i rewatched a japanese recording a few days ago and it felt like it does, although i might mismatched stuff
this part confused me a bit when i was watching, like l what are you on about, shooting light in some warehouse won't really help the case (though i guess that's exactly what light was planning to do to l, and the musical's all about them being the same, but light had the decency to cry at least)... anyway, in the english version of _the way it ends_ l voices his feeling that his actions are controlled, which is not in the japanese version (light is explaning he's controlling him anyway), but this still how i interpret this song, l just being influenced by the death note. i wonder if there's some canon explanation/word of god for whether l would actually want to kill light if light didn't make him? (if he would, i don't want to know lol) (light didn't actually want to part with l, this must mean this song isn't genuine l's feelings) (wait is l planning to kill light or just shoot him here, that's unclear)
...sorry for all this rambling haha, i didn't have anyone to discuss this with. not sure if i ever commented on this channel before, i don't use my yt account much, but just know i love this channel and i've listened to the read through multiple times and to your song recordings dozens of times (i have them saved along with the official recordings in my death note the musical playlist), i'm very excited to see where this project goes!! and you make a very good light, which is not really relevant to this specific video i guess,,,
I never recorded the song before because I felt the same as you (had no idea how it fits in with the rest of the finale and the implications of what L was thinking) but recorded it for the sake of archival and people asking me to. Thanks for the comment, it means a lot!
i may have an answer for you! from the 2015 japanese production onwards, they actually cut out the first verse of “the way it ends” and replaced it with this! it’s been like that ever since. it basically just cuts after light tells rem to kill l, and we see l heading to the warehouse singing this while light explains how his death was written. l then goes into the warehouse and light explains his plans to him and shows him ryuk, cutting to the second verse of “the way it ends” after that, and everything continues as it does in the english script.

I'm honestly not a fan of the reprise, your singing is beautiful, but I mean in terms of character. The studio version of 'The Way It Ends' has those subtle hints during the first verse that L knows he's going to die, and that's lost here, am I the only one who feels like it makes L look a little less smart? Not saying I hate the Way Things Are though, just the reprise.
