It has been a painful few years where this song has gradually become my favourite in the entire musical with no English version to listen to. I'm so glad to hear such a high quality rendition of it with the official English lyrics, finally! Now if only the official instrumental was available so that it could keep up with how powerfully you belted out those notes.
Thanks for the kind words; I really appreciate it! No official instrumental, but the one I used is here (although I transposed it down to match Teppei Koike's key): ruclips.net/video/ODeQbNN3ce8/видео.html
Fantastic work, man! You've got a really powerful voice and you've clearly put a lot of time and effort into developing your technique. Thanks for putting this out there. It's nice to have a high-quality English version of this song to listen to!
"The Way Things Are" was not recorded as part of the NY demo album. If an "official" English version exists, it's likely only in Frank Wildhorn's personal files. What I wouldn't give for an hour on his computer to download as I please....
My guess would be that the NY demo recordings were simply made to give a general feel for the show (for investors and such), and it was decided that they already had an L solo in "The Game Begins," so it was decided that they didn't need to record another. BUT Jarrod Spector recently revisited "The Game Begins" during lockdown, and he seemed to imply that "The Way Things Are" didn't yet exist at the time of recording, or that if it did, he wasn't made aware of it. So it's possible that it was written later. Urai and Kakizawa have said that the show was in many ways written for the 2015 Japanese cast, so maybe it wasn't added until Teppei Koike was cast.
@@TheatreJosh24601 That's really interesting! If that's is true it makes sense why this song matches Koike Teppei's vocals so well. Btw do you have a link to Jarrod Spector's revisit of the game begins? I tried searching RUclips but I guess it was never posted here
A fellow _Death Note: The Musical_ fan requested that Spector sing "The Way Things Are" on something called Cameo, and told me that "he said that he had actually never even heard of that song before, it didn't exist when they made the demos." But Spector did sing "The Game Begins," and the friend sent a link for the recording: d3el26csp1xekx.cloudfront.net/v/wm-yPuEMFj_f.mp4
At some point, I plan on doing "Hurricane." I may also try "Where Is the Justice?" Backing tracks are the deciding factor. I'd love to do "Mortals and Fools (Reprise)," but I'd need a backing track and a Rem.
I've heard some bootleg recordings, and was displeased with some of the vocal choices that Dean John-Wilson made; mainly I found his riffs way too over-the-top for L. That said, his overall portrayal sounded phenomenal. He really nailed the vocal mannerisms of the English dub. And he has an amazing voice. My biggest disappointment was with the lyrics. Either Dean John-Wilson flubbed them in the recording I heard, or they were simplified for the concert, replacing the lyrical build in each verse and refrain with a boring repeat of the same lyrics for each refrain.
The karaoke track I used is here: ruclips.net/video/ODeQbNN3ce8/видео.html I transposed it down to match Teppei Koike's key. It took me way too long to realize that the karaoke track was even in a different key. Shot my voice out for a couple days trying to sing the higher version before I realized why it was so much harder than I thought!
I linked the instrumental in the description. I'm not sure how far down I pitched it, though. You'd have to compare and listen for the interval. Probably 1-3 steps.

Definitely, this song is amazing! I became to know about this song because of you! Thanks!
@@TheatreJosh24601 That's very interesting. It would be cool if they revisited The Musical and did this song.
Bro your voice is amazing! The way you hit those notes, the feeling you gave each word! This is going on loop for the next few hours.
This is really good, I'm so glad to find an English version of this song.
this is exactly how i like to imagine L's voice!!!!! awesome cover dude!!!!!!
I think RUclips knows I'm adapting the Japanese musical to make an English version lol. I didn't know this song existed, thank you for sharing it!
The musical was actually written in English. It just hasn't been produced in English yet due to a lack of interest
Thank you so so so much!
How did they miss recording this one? It’s amazing!

Is there a way to use this specific instrumental, pitched down?

2 steps from Bm to Am
