- The idea of Light Yagami singinig his little heart out in the rain is so funny to me-- but this song slaps so hard I had to make something for it! If you haven't already, I highly recommend listening to the musical if you're a Death Note fan, it is absurdly good for such a ridiculous concept!

Oh my god I ADORE this. Ryuk's shadow. The way Light is so intensely calm and just stares him down. The mix of deranged energy and like peak scholar vibes. THE END FRAMES. Just like, absolute perfection.
I think this animatic actually revealed to me why a musical was the best medium to adapt Death Note into: Light would absolutely break out into song and dance if he could. He’s such a dramatic little bastard and you’ve depicted that perfectly.

I can't believe L had such a hard time catching Kira when Light just goes into a full blown musical number about how he's a basically a god who has the power of swift justice on his side in front of a crowd of people.
💀 Since this is the musical i'm pretty sure this song takes place in seconds inside of his head. So smart kid would start singing about killing folks

Yeah, the actual final product performed in Japan in Japanese. If I am remembering correctly they brought in the singers and pretty much explained the characters and made the demo before it was translated for the Japanese production

I love how dramatic your Light is with his little spins, tossing paper in the air and singing on balconies😂. Especially love the added touch of Ryuk's wings outlined against Light's reflection in the mirror.

I love how you used a common theme of eyes in the original manga version of Death Note;
When Light is innocent, his eyes are circular. But when he starts killing and goes insane, his eyes get very angular. Amazing attention to detail
I love your design for Light, I think it fits Jeremy Jordan's voice very well
I'm not sure if it's intentional or not but I love the little detail with Light's eyes becoming more sharper as his conviction grows to use the deathnote and become god of the new world.
Especially when the melody hits near the end, and his eyes became round again like in the beginning, before becoming sharp, like squares(trapazoid?).

I just love the moment his eyes become sharp ☺️ if you like this moment, you may like the anime "Charlotte", it's a character going through this state, and it's beautiful.

It does happen in the anime too. When he relinquishes the ownership of the Death Note his eyes go round again.

wow this was amazing!!! this musical deserves so much love and this song specially is one of my favorites, you did it so much justice! honestly, the way you had it all planned out matched my own vision for hurricane so much so that it felt like you had read my mind (the part where light opens his balcony door and sings into the rain! literally how I always imagined it going)

this is like my 5th time watching this but i just realized… the first time he says ‘human stains and all their sins’ it shows some pervert… then before the last time at the end he says it again, while looking at his reflection! OMG i seriously love this animatic

A slight crack of humanity
I'm a huge Light/Kira fan and I appreciate the accurate portrayal of his character.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with the interpretation that he was a caring person and was haunted by his actions and developed this god complex to cope. I appreciate the human side of Light being shown so much you have no idea
I didn't knew Death Note musical exists and now this suddenly appeared on my feed, I feel blessed, the song fits perfectly with the story and I can see Light doing it, he's so dramatic I love him.
There’s version on RUclips of the full show in Japanese and when songs come up that they recorded in English, they added them in

That's part of what makes it so compelling and tragic. Because all of us would be tempted. All of us know there are monsters that get away with atrocities and to stop them forever with just a name and a face.
But then where would WE stop?
The Death Note is simply for too much power for one person with not enough restrictions.

Jeremy Jordan is the Mighty Hurricane, people! Though he is playing an anime social justice character, he is nailing not only the role but bashing our expectations on how he lets his voice roar! Seriously, your passion for this musical and determination on this storyboard animatic makes me want to plan my own for the future.
I saw the premiere for the English version of this musical in London today and all I can say is that was an absolute masterpiece

i stumbled on this late. but I really love the way you had him with those soft bright eyes at teh begining and then as he learns the power he now has we see the shift to his more calculated eyes. There's moments we still see his bright innocents. but ironicaly its washed away by his own "hurricane"
I don’t know if you still read comments but as a theatre fan and a Jeremy Jordan fan who recently finished Death Note (and cringed so hard when I realized in just the second episode the extent of how much Netflix fucked up the live-action version), thank you for this.

This is so great. Animation is simple yet captures emotions wonderfully. A perfect balance between the song's epicness and the hilariousness of the very concept of making musical out of Death Note. The concept is hilarious because the whole idea of Death Note is so serious and gravity-filled and YET Light Yagami would TOTALLY break into song just like that.

Impressive mouth movement on the syllables, particularly for “f” and “L”, which was a lot of effort that wasn’t needed but makes it so much better!
