Love the tip of separating your fabrics by color families. Those wooden buttons from Cori are just beautiful. I have a ton of vintage buttons from my grandmother but find it difficult to use some of them. I’m a sentimental old fool. Remember playing with them as a child while she sewed at the machine.
Love these, I will have to try some with sewing the button on. Just a tip from someone that has been sewing for over 50 years. Instead of taking your needle off each time, just push it up the thread past where you are going to cut it off. This way you don't have to rethread the needle each time. It will help if you have a hard time threading the needle.
I haven't made junk journals in nearly 3 years or watched a video on it. Some how I stumbled on this and realized how much I've missed it. Looks like I need to start up again. I miss it. Thanks for the boost.
I see that this was a year ago but I am just seeing it and it was very well taught and very helpful as Im seeking to use clusters in my next project. Thanks for sharing! I am always appreciative when others share their tips!
Oh my goodness! What fun it was to watch you put these clusters together and you've made it so easy to follow your instructions. Thank you so much! I'm excited to get started.
Pretty clusters. Great idea for the set up to mass create. Congratulations Grandma! I remember the excitement of my first grandchild and that was 20 years ago😀.
Hi Tracie, these tips are great, especially for those of us who are just learning. I love the way you get everything laid out first before you start putting the clusters together. Thanks for all the help!!! Blessings.
Love these clusters and your process! I've found some great buttons at the thrift stores when they have a "sale bin" with outdated clothing, sometimes $1 a bag. I buy a bag and remove the buttons and have tons of scraps for almost nothing.
A tip for when you're ready to tie off the thread is to push the needle down the thread, closer to the spool, then cut the length near the cluster and tie off. This will save having to rethread the needle for every cluster. I hope that's clearer than mud! I love these clusters, I need to gather up the stuff to make some. :)
Thank you so much Tracie, I really really enjoyed watching you create those stunning and gorgeous clusters...... I really really love ❤️ them, and I really think you could use them anywhere. Also you could tie off the thread 🧵 at the front, and it would give a slightly different look? Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Thanks for the tutorial, Tracie! The tip about leaving the thread on the spool is genius!! You always have the best ideas!! Thanks!! I have so many scraps of everything you are using that I can be busy making clusters for months!! 💜💜💜
It's been so much fun watching some of your recent videos knowing that you're using some of the goodies we sent you in happy mail awhile ago. We're so glad that you've gotten use of some of it.
Thank you so much for sharing the idea of the clusters. They are lovely, easy to make and look super. Off I go yet again to make some of these. And looking at the earlier comment, I too have loads of scarves that I no longer wear so I'll be snipping those as well. Thank you Darlene for that idea.
Loving all your tips and tricks for cluster making, TFS 🤗... And it's nice to know I'm not the only one who keeps those net bags fruit and vegetables come in 😉, they are so great for adding texture to projects. Your clusters are beautiful 😍 x
Thank you Tracie. I have a little notebook on things I have learned from you, and these tips are definitely going into it. Your clusters are beautiful. Thank you for teaching us what makes them so special.
Tracie, thank you for this demonstration and tips. For me the set up is a key idea and letting the thread stay on the spool. These clusters are stunning. I will have to get mine set up and make some clusters for in progress journals. Blessings of spring from Katherine in Missouri.
Tracie, these are lovely. I was thinking that I have some old scarves that I no longer use, so they are going to become clusters. The tips are fantastic. I learn so much from you each time I watch one of your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and creativity with us.
Those were very helpful hints Tracie. Particularly, for me, was the separation and cutting of the scraps ahead of time. All your clusters were wonderful looking. Thank you 👍🥰❤️
These are incredible! Those amazing buttons from Cori really make for a special fabric cluster. Your teaching is so clear and detailed and super helpful for a newbie (to JJ) like myself. Thank you!
Hello Tracie! I love how they turned out and you had some really awesome tips. Thanks for sharing your process and I hope you have a beautiful weekend. Take care! 💜
I don’t consider myself a beginner but I really enjoyed hearing your thought process and tips. These are just delightful! Everyone else’s scraps are just more interesting than mine....🙄☺️
This is great Tracey I still count myself as a beginner And I do have quilting scraps but not much else, thats a big problem when you cant have everything needed But Thank you for the tutorial Cheers 🇦🇺🐇🐣
These are so pretty, I’m brand new to this type of craft and have zero fabric scraps so I’ve been using different papers, could you point me in the direction of Cheryl olive ? Thank you for this tutorial, lots of useful tips.☺️
I have sari silk that I got ages ago but the fabric is all twisted so there’s no flat pieces. Can I iron this which I’m sure will take a long time!? If I want affordable fabric where would you suggest I look? Thank you for the great set up you showed.
Mrs Cog did a video a long time ago on ironing Sari but yes on a low iron you can. Second hand clothes torn is a great place to start with fabric for clusters xxx
It is a chiffon fabric, including sari silk x You will have to search, I am not sure where you are and where you can buy it. Mine came from Sherril Olive on Etsy x
These are really beautiful but I think it would be easier to just go ahead and thread-the-needle once with a long piece of cotton and say instead of having to thread it over and over.

I’ve got a load of fabric and buttons so I’m going to have a Ho at these. They are stunning.

Is your thread cotton or waxed linen? You called it waxed linen when you showed it then cotton as you are using it.
LOL sorry. store.bookbinding.co.uk/store/product/17207/French-Linen-Tan-282/ I use this, Linen
The fabric you are using: what kind is t, couldn’t understand it well, sorry. And where can I buy it in one way or the other. Merci
It is a chiffon fabric, including sari silk x You will have to search, I am not sure where you are and where you can buy it. Mine came from Sherril Olive on Etsy x
😍😍😍😍😍❤❤❤❤❤
These are really beautiful but I think it would be easier to just go ahead and thread-the-needle once with a long piece of cotton and say instead of having to thread it over and over.
You do what works for you! x
