Diamond Dave has always been a Bad Karaoke Singer........... fronting one of the Greatest Rock and Roll Bands in the world, ever. He records well. And, he has amazing charisma. But, he seems to forget that he is supposed to actually be singing, while performing.
this is so true...he unnecessarily sings poorly live. He didn't used to...but he certainly does now. Like in Panama..."hot shoe"...he always just shouts "hawt shaw"...those type of mistakes make me think he really doesn't know how he sang it originally anymore. His screams are now embarrassing at this point too. But he certainly does record well...thanks to Ted Templeman reigning him in. If you hear the Gene Simmons demo, he sings more like he does live...Templeman is full credit for the way Dave records his vocal.
He was sacked so the useless bass player could a job. He would never have had a job otherwise. He's still unemployed to this day.@@edwardscissorhands5264
Not to make excuses, but this is stage sound. DLR is probably only coming through wedges and the only ones I see in the video are two on stage left, in Eddie's area. I think Wolfgang has in-ear monitors, as well as DLR. You can't hear FOH from this vantage point, so hard to assess whether DLR is singing well or not. That's Diamond Dave's schtick, anyway. RIP EVH. Van Halen forever!
It’s a disappointing that the audio was so weak but man still it was awesome. He’s standing there like he’s doing nothing really and this incredible powerful sound is coming from him. Just pure God given talent that he acknowledged! When 1984 came out, I played it to death especially this song. (Girl gone bad is my favorite now) Fast forward to the 2000’s and my son is playing this on guitar and many others of VH in his room. Here’s him playing with his band mates doing Panama. Let me know if you like it. I know I do. One proud mom ruclips.net/video/UMOAhP10I1w/видео.htmlsi=AArK9K7_OjuSutX7
There are professional camera crew taking footage during the soundcheck. Was this recorded to digital format, or where they simply setting exposure and focus settings? Note the pro camera directly in front of Edward.
@@nickdjordjevic1828 Yes, I have already downloaded the main Jimmy Kimmel Van Halen live TV performance over 1 year ago. I meant has any of the Van Halen soundcheck been kept by someone that was filmed via pro quality cameras? If so, it hasn't so far surfaced.
@2:35 Does anyone know what Eddie is stepping on here? Is that something that alternates between 'guitar styles' or 'frequencies' for lack of a better term? I'm a complete novice when it comes to any and all things guitars, so be gentle! p.s. Thanks for posting all these VH vids, Nick!
The number in Philadelphia is Klondike 3-2785. Keep those phones ringing folks. Dave has promised to answer some phones after he gargles more gravel. He will be here to take your pledges. For you folks in Pittsburgh the number is Melrose 7-8972. Dave will be right back after this message.
Love VH weather Roth or Sammy fronted , Dave’s voice is 1st one everyone relates to VH. And yes he def goes to high vocally to try hitting his old vocal ranges but can’t do it. He should sing lower key cause he sounds better and chill out the vocals when he strains or goes higher it’s bad . Yes he’s older I get it. But as a singer he should know what his range is and work it best way for every song . But sadly his ego believes he sounds good. Love Dave but all ya gotta do is listen to him sing live since 2012 to present .
You can hear why Dave was always at odds with the band...........he never tried to recreate what we all heard on the Van Halen albums which is one of the reasons why you go to a concert in the first place...........I'm sure Eddie wanted to make it sound like the record and Dave just wanted to be a showman more than a singer............If you go to an Eagles concert, every song is performed like you remember hearing it on the radio.........that's a band that cares about giving fans what they want.
Why would you go to a concert to hear a replicated album? I'll just listen to the album for that. I want a real live performance which is purposely imperfect and full of rough edges. Van Halen music was always recorded live anyways so there's not really any "correct" way to sing these tunes.
This is sound check. Not the show. I saw them twice. Once for the second album and once with 1984. Dave can rock. And he can sing, just was never real good in concert. But, VH never needed a great singer. Imagine sharing a stage, as a singer, with Eddie. Dave could. Sammy was always a better singer than Dave, but when he joined VH changes also. Dave brought the swagger and Sammy brought Journey with him.
Dave...please...stop straining your voice and trying to yell. Just SAY the words or sing them like you sang "California Girls" and every one will love it.
TRUTH DOG That's similar to what I was thinking....time to break out the 'ol auto tune machine! There's another EVH signature product for Ed to slap his logo on!
Dave sounded great back in the day ? on the albums yes, but he sucked live then and he got worse. I saw them on the early tours and he ruined songs with his lack of ability to sing them. Then in the middle of, for example ''Everybody wants some'' - when your rocking out at the show , singing and going wild - and the band is on FIRE ! - he goes into a story about some girl in a soda shop. Fucking Buzz kill at Madison Square Garden. That was every show and way to many songs ruined by Dave, and they were my fave band back then. You would think he would realize who he was on stage with and try to bring his best, no , Ed Alex and Mike are bringing it and Dave just mails it in, and those old live shows were great despite Daves lack of respect for the songs they recorded. still hurts when you realize how lucky he was to have hooked up with a one of a kind talent like Eddie. I got the Maiden bug and Metallica fever but VH is still in my blood and Eddie is the best ever, more sounds and riffs from one mans heart and out through. his fingers than anyone ever, rip Eddie. Daves a killer - Daves a mess
It's recorded from a handheld camera on the 5th floor of a building across the street, 7 stories above from where they're performing.... I'm so fucking sorry it's not studio quality for your potato brain.
The irony is despite his battle with cancer, Edward looked very good in his later years leading up to his leaving us.
And we'll never hear this live again😢. RIP EVH.
Rest In Peace Eddie ❤️
Why on earth would you stop recording? I would've recorded the entire soundcheck. This here is history now that Eddie is gone, My Friend.
My battery died. I've uploaded several videos onto my channel from the day.
All that's on my channel is almost the entire soundcheck
@@nickdjordjevic1828 Tapers nightmare - running out of tape or batteries going and trying to save them.
It’s probably just from the soundcheck. Note the lack of audience members and abundance of daylight.
bro, it's called life
Always remember sam brings the party Dave is the party..... sam sings "why cant this be love" dave sings "i aint talkin bout love"....
Yep
Wolfie is an amazing talent also!

Yeah....and people seem to forget that a hard rock/metal singer's vocal chords deteriorate with age.

Wish he`d knock off the fake fkn smile, and him thinking he has to be :clever: all the time, hes too much, and his days fronting anything are done.
Eddie loves/d his job....always smiling😍😍😍😍

If you look closely you can see Ed put some grease on Dave's microphone stand.....
Things looked rough for them...you can feel the just show up and work feel...oh well..when its a business..it takes the fun out...
singing being a relative term

Sounds like right before the solo he turned on a phaser pedal. And what you’re referring to is when he turned it back off before the interlude

It was a pay cheque for Dave. If they had a real bass player like Mikey he would have sung batter.
I can hear Michael Anthony’s Canned back-up vocal tracks... 🤔
