14:10 - What makes it even more sensible is that Isma's Tear protects you from acid by repelling the acidic particles in the solution. In other words, the canon says swimming in acid with Isma's Tear is _exactly equivalent_ to swimming in water!
@@jan_Niwe If you look at the animation, you'll see the knight has a semicircular effect around them, and inside the semicircle is something with a different color. I see the semicircle as acid against a surface - it's similar to the effect at the surface of acid lakes - and I see water inside the semicircle, not air. Isma's tear repells acid, leaving the water where it is. It doesn't let the knight float in open air.
Skurry, you can check how many grubs you have in your inventory by selecting the icon in the middle of the three spells. I think it's just a description of Focus in vanilla, but it's an additional item tracker in the randomizer. It shows you how many grubs you've collected, how many Dreamers, whether you can swim, and whether you can ride large elevators.
Is king's pass the best place to start? You probably want as many checks as possible accessible with no movement, so KP definitely seems like a candidate, but I wonder what other locations might be better.
@@Sepi-chu_loves_mothsYou can get to King's Pass from Howling Cliffs right? So any area where you can get to kings pass without abilities but can't go the other direction must be better
without logic, yes kp is the best because it was designed not to have items so you can get to a lot of checks. but WITH logic, you actually want less checks, randos are designed to be completable so if you start in an area with 5 checks, one of those 5 checks has to be a movement item so kp wouldnt be good for a quick start with logic
when you upgrade your nail, boss health gets a boost for most non-final bosses, so spells deal less damage relative to boss health. that's why in randos you want to upgrade nail only if you have no spells or need to do Colo (since regular enemy health isn't affected). For example, No Eyes goes from 200 (two full Shaman Stone Abyss Shrieks deal 240, so you can even miss one tick) to 570 with Pure Nail, and Gorb from 200 to whopping 640. Although it doesn't affect THK and Radiance, as those are final bosses, by that point going over to the City would be a waste of time since Skurry does Any% speedruns and can reliably do nail 0 THK (and most damage to Radiance is typically dealt with Wraiths/Shriek (and they did a fair amount of TE, GE runs and TE/GE rando runs by this point)
Is it a meme in Skurry’s chat to immediately recommend rain world to anyone who asks what it is, without warning them about how brutally punishing and infuriatingly janky it is? Or are they being earnest? I don’t think it’s a bad game by any means, but I wouldn’t tell anyone to spend money on it without letting them know what they’re getting into 👀
Can you tell me what I'd be getting into? I've heard a lot of good things about rainworld, but I don't know.. I'm nervous about spending money on it. What did you like? Dislike? Do you think someone who enjoys hollow knight would *probably* enjoy rainworld?
@@arandomperson7141 rain world and hollow knight are very different games, and anyone who says rain world is a metroidvania is lying, it has a lot of exploration but you never get any upgrades. if you like exploring and getting lost in games, that's one of the most fun parts about rain world imo- but it comes with the downside of it being very luck based a lot of the time. rain world is inherently an unfair game. you *are* going to get cornered by things and not be able to escape, or have a room be constantly filled up with lizards you can't get past and have time run out, or fuck up the platforming and fall to your death. but if you like that sort of challenge i'd definitely recommend it. you're rewarded with an investing story, beautiful artwork, fun level design, and good music. really fun game overall if you know what you're expecting
@@arandomperson7141 it has bucketloads of atmosphere, many intriguing ideas and a huge, interesting world to explore. It also has extremely squishy controls and janky screen transitions which make platforming hell (Skurry’s own words lol), most enemies wiggle around unpredictably then one-shot you, there are no* permanent upgrades so you just have to git gud, and the game gives you little to no guidance about what to do or where to go. There’s an “easy mode” (Monk) which makes the game bearable while still being extremely difficult, but the internet is full of people who will tell you not to play it as it’s not the ”intended experience”. If you found hollow knight too easy, its story too clear and easy to follow, you’re willing to put up with some badly designed jank, and want a brutally punishing challenge you can dig your teeth into in return for the immense satisfaction of having survived a terrifying world, you might enjoy it! IMO the best option is to buy it on sale, so if you hate it you don’t feel scammed, and if you love it you got a great deal, and can always pay full price for the DLC if you want :)
@@arandomperson7141I think if you’d enjoy hollow knight, there’s a good chance you’d like rain world, but you have to be able to step back from the typical view of game-y mechanics and look at it as more of an art piece or an ecosystem. There will be no powerups, no explanations or inventory, just your own creativity and ability to learn from mistakes and observation. This makes it one of my favorite games of all time, but it’s also not for everyone. If some of your favorite parts of HK were learning boss and enemy patterns, getting lost in an unfamiliar environment, and taking in the world around you as you travel through it, I would highly recommend Rain World. I have well over 1,000 hours in this game and it still manages to surprise me and teach me new things every time
I’ll be honest, I don’t think rain world is all that punishing for new players as long as they dont throw themselves at the same problem the same way every time. And as for the jank, RW has one of the best movement systems of all time imo, with an almost uncapped skill ceiling right from the start. You just kinda have to find your legs and learn to walk before you can run
Tbh if one really wanted to have a logiclesslike rando it'd prolly be better off with all skips on plus some custom skips, along with edited logic itself so that once one item is grabbed everything becomes available more or less. Wouldn't be the exact same but it would be garunteed completable.

I love that Skurry straight up forgets they have Shade Dash in the Radiance fight so they resort to D-Dark i-frames
The one person who said to sit on the den bench saved the rando (the Herrah check is only accessible if you sit there)
