he's one of the few big country artist that still plays small venues all over the country. He plays at COWBOYS here in San Antonio. I try and go see him every time he's in town..

I gave Troy the idea for this song and almost every word in it. Told him that the story comes first. Kinda cool to see my words in a number one country hit. Peace Jim

@@RockN2Country Well there was no check for that one. I had my fill of Nashvegas at that time and I was heading back to Nebraska in a few days. I had seen Troy Jones around the hangouts felt sorry for him as none of the big dog song writers would work with him I guess he did not like to share the cash. So I was sitting in Loosers A bar owned by Irve Wolssey Clint Black's Manager and saw Troy trying to connect with one of the writers in town and was getting blown off, so I said to my friend I am going to write a country hit. You hide and see. Because I knew Troy was one of the best writers in town. I think he did "Stand by your man" for Tammy. So I called him over, and told him I am fairly good with words. He wanted to know three things that were absolutely true and that is where God is great, Beer is good, And people are crazy, came from. The only time I EVER saw anyone who could do shorthand like the secretaries did years ago. So we shot the shit and hammered out the story, because the story always comes first. Most of the words are mine and came out of that conversation. I have told people for years that I would pay a hundred to hear a new story or and old one told well. I guess we came up with a really good story as so many people like it and can relate to it, and the cool thing is... I did that! So that is the real back story to that. And as the song goes that was the first and only time I ever talked with him. I do think that a friend of mine has his number maybe I should call him and see if he will put me in his will, that would be crazy, and the completion to the entire thing. What do you think? Peace Jim

@jim wood I would sign up for that in a second! If I'm ever out your way again (I was at the Rutgers-Huskers game about for years ago--nicest fans I ever met, with Arkansas a close second), we can react to a song together and you can tell the story.

You never know about families. I've known families who were literally waiting for the patriarch or matriarch to die so they could get the money. In the video you can tell that the one day/evening/night he spent with this old guy was probably the best night of his life. So just because he gave his money to him doesn't mean he was crazy; maybe he thought that was one way to make his kids stop living entitled lives. Entitled people really tick me off. I love this song and I loved your reaction,

I hope you read this. Terri Clark Red deer alberta, paul brandt Alberta, Shania Twain Ontario Canada. American country is fine. But one of my favorite songs. "The world needs a drink" by terri clark in i believe the late 90s, probably wrong, perfectly describes our world know give it a go.
