    I really like it ! For those who say it's a waste, it's an Opinel that's not expensive ! Everyone does as they want, and I think the handle is very original!
    I plan to make a custom Opinel that I've already put aside, I'm also going to burn the handle but not to this carbonized color, just subtly to bring out the grain.
    Then I'm going to put hot Linseed oil and transparent paste wax on it to enhance the colors of the wood.
    You have to remove the layer that's on the original wood, I'm going to sand it of course and see if I modify the handle or not, I don't know yet.
    I'm going to make a hole in the blade to add a thumb-stud and open it with one hand. I'm also going to screw in a pocket clip.
    I've already bought everything, I have to get started, but I'm so afraid of doing something stupid ! 😅

    Listen, or better read this! I got a No9 Carbon I used a file, and made the blade, the most beautiful drop point, I've ever had! Then, I sanded the back sharp corners, to make the handle even more comfortable.After that, I burnt it slowly, using a cheap jet flame lighter. Then I used a lot of raw linseed oil coatings and after they dried. I used wax, to seal the handle forever. For the final step, I stabbed a lemon and let the blade in for many hours. The final outcome, was the most beautiful and functional Opinel I ever had!!! The blade took a very beautiful camouflage pattern! It takes the looks and the feel of the knife to the next level!! I like this mod here too, it's very different ,but still way better than the factory finish!!

      What about the lock collar ?

    • @greekveteran2715
      @greekveteran2715 10 месяцев назад +2

      I do nothing with it. Becareful,If you add oil in the colar, the lock then disengages, so it's dangarous! I only put some oil/wax mixture, to seal the wood in the end,after I finish with all the mods. I never do anything with the colar.@@GavTatu

      @@greekveteran2715 i took mine off and put it in the flame till blue. it still works, and matches the blade colour better.

      Nice mod! I did have an accident, where I lost my finger last time I meesed with the colar,so since then, I never tried anything! Black (completely burnt handle, finished with oil/wax) makes an excellent contrast with the chrome finish of the colar, that I like very much! The mod I like more though, is to filedown the tip, to a beautiful drop point! and then either stick the blade in a lemon for a day or inside Vinegar for 2 days (avoiding the vinegar o get into the wood, because it swells it and the blade doesn't move freely after that. Thank you for the idea, it sounds really cool! ! @@GavTatu

    На вкус и цвет - .... Мне бы не понравилось держать в руке обугленную головешку... Чем хорош Опинель - ты держишь в руке нож с деревянной рукоятью, ощущая тепло и текстуру дерева (даже если рукоять пропитана)... Тем мне и нравятся эти ножи.

  • @Emil_Nielsen

    The charred look is really cool, but personally I would go over all the wood woth a steel or brass brush to expose the new uneven woodgrain, that would keep the dark brown color but ad some nice texture aswell

    Есть ещё секрет. Дерево пропитывается эпоксидной смолой на горячую. И дерево становится как пластик) особенно хорошо в месте крепления клинка. Тогда он не разбухает от влаги

    • @restorecustom2746
      @restorecustom2746  3 года назад +3

      Hi, I didn't use paint. In a first time, I burnt the wood. Then, I use a wood varnish (I guess you speak about this) with shining effect. But you can also use Linseed oil for a not shinning effect. With oil is the classic technique ou burnt wood (ShouSugiBan)

      Salut, j'utilise du venis (effet brillant) pour bois. Cependant, il est aussi possible de saturer le bois avec de l'huile de lin (idéalement avec de l'essence de térébenthine en plus ) (dans ma dernière vidéo, j'utilise de l'huile de lin. Ceci est le moins chère, environ 3 euros /Litre) . Ceci protège le bois avec un effet mat. Une de ces deux étapes de protection est nécessaire pour que le '' brûlé '' reste '' fixé '' sur le manche.

      Bonjour, tu laisses baigner combien de temps pour saturer le manche avec l'huile de lin et therebantine stp ?
      Le manche ne gonfle pas ?
      Ça tient le coup dans le temps ?
      Et si le mélange est additionné de colorant, ça colore entre les interstices du bois brûlé ?

      @restorecustom2746  2 года назад

      @@michelremy2910 bonjour,
      J'utilise un pinceau pour bien imbiber du mélange. Je laisse reposer et applique 2 ou 3 fois supplémentaires. La protection peut être à répéter tous les 2ans par exemple selon l'utilisation du couteau

      Merci...
      Pour protéger durablement le manche en bois.
      Est-ce que tu connais le Balistol Balsin huile pour crosse brun-rouge à base de silicone.
      Et le Protecteur bois brûlé PB600.
      Serait-ce mieux à l'usage pour manipuler tous les jours le couteau ?
      En remplacement de l'huile de lin ?
      Cordialement, Michel
