Awesome ! Should of taken off the “lock ring” first. It would of made it easier, and wouldn’t have to worry about touching it with the saw blade. JMHO !
With a design that reduces the width of the handle, you’re reducing the integrity of the handle. Yes, you replaced the width at some point, but where the handle narrows into the collar is now permanently thinner. Have you used this knife enough after the modification to know if you can still pic much force into it without splintering the handle?
Definately, I think of the Opinel #8 as the perfect outdoor steak knife. Lol For $20.00 it's a good, cheap, general purpose, get er done knife. Not for prying, splitting or throwing!
Thanks Andy, I need to come visit you at some point to learn about blades, I didn't dare mod that because I don't understand heat treats etc and didn't want to ruin it!
Perfect knife to 'modify' because they're so inexpensive. No matter if you foul it up. If Opinel made them fancier they would be more expensive, totally missing the point (sorry) of such a simple tool.
Anyone else taken part in the challenge? Drop your links in response to this and I'll check them out.
First Opinel mod I've watched in which the modified knife looks better than the original.
Thanks!!! That's a great thing to hear
Simple, yet very cool design. Well done.
Lovely job! I’d never thought about a modification like that, great idea!
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
👍🏻very nice. Never thought of adding scales to existing center. Brilliant:)

I had a bash at an Opinel mod a few weeks ago... nowhere near as brilliant as yours, but just enough to make it mine!

These are light duty knives.
