The dodge cooldown is probably the number one issue that players will face and quit the game for. I don't know any other game that is this restrictive and punishing for using dodge to counter the wrong attack. Only 6 bosses left on brutal for me and I can't say I'm looking forward to the last two even though I love the game.
We didn't get to play the game back in its early days so we don't really know how the controls were like but, from what we played, the controls were pretty responsive. They also added the option to play with a controller and our only gripe with the controller layout is that it's awkward to move the camera around since you need to press an extra button to move it.
Nope, still the same mobaesque controls. I don't have a problem with it even though I don't play mobas or games with similar controls, and I've gotten used to it very quickly.

I really want to play it but the controls years ago bothered me. Did they change anything about that?
