I totally think that he's talented, so lets get that out of the way. As a pianist myself, I am 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 jealous of him, but I do not speak with unnecessary bias. I don't think he's doing what you think he's doing. When I feel the music, I kind of stay still, just focusing on my hands and the way I'm playing, but I look carefree about my expression. I think a lot of performers make sure to smile and look away to make it look as if they're enjoying the piece, but really, they aren't. Or at least their face isn't an indication of it (If you want an example, look at Lang Lang's performances. Him and his piano should get a room!). About him not looking at the keys, I think that's probably just because he understands chord shapes and has the muscle memory and confidence to do it. Since this kid is so talented, he probably went to multiple recitals and was taught to have a good performer's face. That's why he was moving his head around and only glancing at the keys, not interupting his facial expression. Again, the kid's extremely talended. EXTREMELY talented. But I just think that this is innacurate.

I am a 73 year old retired professional musician who can appreciate what he is able to do. Technic is very good of course considering his age....but his musicianship and interpretation is outstanding. Very few top musicians have the dynamics and feel for the piece that this boy does. I hope he won't get burned out at an early age by people pushing him to perform. Now is the time to refine his playing and continue to make it fun for him. He obviously enjoys playing the music.

I know this piece pretty well too. This is utterly incredible. There are plenty of youtube videos of young kids hailed as prodigies, bashing out pieces without the slightest musicality. This guy is the real thing. He is listening to his own playing and crafting every note. The fact that he is even using the pedals when he's too small to sit on the stool, and has the hand stretch of a young child too ... everything about this blows me away. Definitely someone to watch for the future. EDIT: I have just spotted his other videos. He's now nine. Check him out playing Liszt's _La Campanella_ with incredible sensitivity and subtlety. I think he can become a very good pianist in the future because he won't struggle to learn pieces, but focus on adding emotion.

I get suspicious with prodigies this young. He was practicing piano at 3 or 4 years old, to be this good at 5? Or is he being "encouraged" to do nothing but this 12 hours a day? By a culture that is extremely concerned about the achievements of their children? Even if he naturally enjoys it, that does not mean it should be the dominant activity of his life. The fact that he is being made into a RUclips star makes me even more suspicious. Let him live his childhood and let piano be a natural and moderate portion of his life, that is all.
