    Visma dismantling Pogacar at the Col du Granon would be my motivation if I was Pogacar. Nobody felt sorry for him back then, nobody said the strongest team ever, with Sepp Kuss, Wout van Aert and TWO GC guys (Jonas and Roglic) was too strong and to take it easy. In fact, Visma publicly said they'd crack him and no one had an issue with them winning all three grand tours. I'd be even more ruthless if I was Pog, based on that memory alone, I wouldn't even let them win a stage if possible!

    You know who the last person was to take 6 stages in one Tour? Mark Cavendish - 2009. He was celebrated and considered unstoppable. Eddy Merckx won 525 races in his career and was nicknamed "The Cannibal" for it. He is called "The GOAT". Jonas said he would have done the same thing. I think the media is making this more than it is. Let 'em race.

      Exactly! He's making the races fun and exciting to watch. What's the alternative? Boring robotic sky style trains that bring him to cold calculated wins. I'd much rather have what we got this year. We can't have it both ways

    • @Otto_Normalverbraucher
      @Otto_Normalverbraucher 2 месяца назад +4

      UAE and Pogacar are the best in cycling at the moment and Nobody can fault them to go after the stage wins. But: UAE basically bought a super team with domestiques coming in 4th and 6th at this TDF. It really wasnt that exciting this year with only 3 real competitors with Vingegaard, Evenepoel and Roglic, all having major crashes before the tour. One can only hope that Visma and Red Bull ramp up their efforts or it will get boring very quickly. So Pogi, go win ten stages next time. It just isnt good for the sport in general. He is already the best cyclist in the world, how many more wins to rub it in?

    • @Mmalebogo
      @Mmalebogo 2 месяца назад +1

      @@Otto_Normalverbraucher I agree that other teams need to up their game. The point system creates competition outside the traditional way we view cycling.
      From the beginning I didn’t see how most teams were going to challenge UAE, most of their riders had new coaches and improvements were visible from the start of the season, while other teams did not want to make changes
      Roglic really needs to start riding in the front of the peleton, not in the deep and dead centre, as he always gets caught up on crashes. No domestique can protect you there
      The most confusing team was INEOS, you just didn’t know what they wanted to achieve from the beginning; it was even difficult to figure out who the leader was
      Visma should not have brought in Jonas and Wout, they need good recovery. They had to opt for satellite riders to try to counter Pogacar’s attacks
      UAE’s strategy has been the same since the start of the season, I don’t know why others were arrogant enough to just trust in their own without counter measures
      Anyway, we really look forward to 2025, where hopefully, most top riders (and new heroes) would be fit

    • @alpsalish
      @alpsalish 2 месяца назад +4

      @@Otto_NormalverbraucherI realize what you stated. Don't make it UAE's fault if teams don't show up is all. Yes, I read what you wrote. How is it not good for cycling though (JV and TP have shared TDF tour wins over the years)? I feel like there have regularly been super teams that dominate and cycling has only grown in the meantime. Winning on GC isn't the only means of success either. Honestly, what makes cycling so vastly exciting and interesting are all the battles going on and types of races (look at all the classifications). I hope you are at least consistent in your opinion about the classics too. I reckon you opinion is, "MVDP win it all, but you sir are bad for cycling?" I hope you aren't saying that. Has everyone forgotten what Visma did to Pogacar last year? Champions race to win, no matter who they are off the bike. It's fine if you don't like him, as it's fine if you don't like Vingegaard, but to expect either of them to not be "greedy" is absurd. As long as the victory is achieved fairly and cleanly, it is always a question of "may the best man win." If that bothers you, then don't watch bike racing.

    Who are the idiots who think Pagacar is "greedy" for winning so many stages??? This isn't a pre-school competition where kids get participation trophies. This is the highest level cycling in the world, and if other riders want to win stages, they have to ride better and faster. BTW, there were 15 stages that other other riders won.
    Do these idiots think that football, basketball, baseball, etc team who are guaranteed league championships at the end of the season throw games to bad teams to make them feel better??? Ridiculous.

      And if the yellow jersey is also leading in king of the mountain, then the 2nd place king of the mountain rider wears the polka dot jersey, but that's in the rules.
      But, the point is, there are clear rules for the different awards, and nobody is "given" anything, they must be earned by performance (that's not considering internal team dynamics and overall race strategy)

    Truly a memorable edition of Le Tour.
    Pog showed class by attacking and winning stages, rather than sitting back with his unbeatable lead and cruising it
    BG was epic, 3 stages and the green jersey.
    Cav. gets his record breaking 35 stage wins in Le Tour.
    (apparently some disgraced ex cyclist has been making adverse comments about Pog’s performance, based on his own perfidious past)

    Ive watched bike racing for 30 years. In that time, Ive seen many exceptional performances. Every single one has turned out to be tainted. We will see over the next few years how this one turns out!

    Let's remember that Jonas attacked his own GC in last year's Vuelta. I also don't recall Jonas slowing down when Tadej bonked in the previous year's TDF.

    The giro-tour-vuelta triple wasn’t even possible in a single season until the 90s - giro & vuelta overlapped in the calendar in early spring until the current WT format was dreamed up. It’s probably the reason why Merckx didn’t do it.
    Modern riders wouldn’t have come close with most preferring to do just 2 Grand Tours ina year, Froome’s 2017 Tour/vuelta and 2018 giro meant he held all 3 but not in calendar year.
    The giro-tour-worlds is the traditional ‘slam, only achieved by Merckx and Roche.
