- I love my Asahi Pentax lenses, but recently I picked up my first Canon FD lens for a bargain. Canon FD lenses have a lot of great reviews and seem to be the ultimate vintage 'cinematic' lenses. Let's compare these classic wide angle lenses side by side for landscape photography/filmography.
(Make sure to watch this vid in 4K)
Filming gear: full frame Sony A7 III, Pentax-M 28mm f2.8, Canon FD 28mm f2.8 (nFD)
Filming location: Delft, Netherlands, Holland, Kijkduin, Scheveningen, Nordsee, de Zandmotor, Waterweg, strand, beach, holland, The Netherlands
Personally, I prefer the Pentax.
thank you for sharing👍🤗Like
Thank you, I also like the Pentax most

Nice comparison video. Well done!
I own the Pentax=M 28mm f2.8 and I love how sharp and it's "true to life" colors are. I also own a bunch of the older Takumar lenses and the Pentax-M is a lot like the colors of the older lenses, but with more modern lens coatings.
I found my copy stuffed onto a shelf of of old, picked through camera equipment. It was in its little, round leather lens container and it was dusty, but in perfect shape/ And best of all, it had a sticker on it for $12.50! I snapped it up super fast!
Thank you for making this video.. I have just ordered a 28mm Pentax SMC so looking forward to trying it out.
I have an early FD 28mm SC, with the silver metal locking ring, and the build quality is great. It's built like a tank. I also prefer the Canon colour science and more contrasty look. Plus, it definitely handles flare better, as you can see in those night shots in the town square. I have several vintage Pentax lenses, too, and like them, but at 28mm, I prefer the FD 28mm SC. One thing I will say, though, is that Pentax M primes are MUCH easier to clean and service than Canon FD lenses!!
The Canon lens is much better in the corners, so its better for landscape IMHO.
The Canon is better for color grading in my opinion. If you already like the look of the Pentax, you might not need to grade it. Pentax looks kind of "too sharp" to me.
pentax has a softer look thats what i love about it i have three of them
One is properly exposed and one isn’t….
Wonderful comparison. I haven't used Pentax yet. It looks very interesting.
Sometimes it still amazes me just how differently two, theoretically similar lenses can behave - such a noticeable difference in colour rendering and the look of the flare in the night shots too. Equally, when I'm shooting a video and I want extra atmosphere, I'll grab one of my more atmospheric lenses that would never be my first choice for landscape photography, so they all have a place, particularly when they're often a bargain price. Great comparison and really interesting to watch.
Cheers, the Canon has a very distinctive look indeed. I'm glad to have it in my 'collection' but it's not my first lens of choice.
@@ohjajohh Yeah, sometimes it's nice to have them in the collection even if they're not the first choice when it comes to actually using them.
Your video is so great helped for my filming...THANKS..!!!
Hi there............Thanks for sharing. Very interesting.
In the pixel peeping test @ 3.50 when you added the Canon it blacked out some of the windows that the Pentax showed light in. It looked similar to underexposing.
Thanks for watching.I think someone just flipped the light switch in that room :)
Well done! I've just got the Pentax 2.8 myself, can't wait to try it out!
Thanks! When I first got my Pentax 28mm I wasn't blown away by it, but the more I used it, the more I started to appreciate it. It's a very nice lens to have in your collection.
Amazing!✨Thank you for sharing😊
Looks that Cannon is more color saturation . ...
Yes, and how many users will boost then saturation/warmth in processing the Pentax M images?! 😂
Is pentax 28mm f2.8 radioactive?
No, this lens is not radioactive. I think none of the lenses in the Pentax-M series contain thorium.
All this bullshit about build quality in the plastic fd lenses but they are 40 ot more years and still work perfectly...nobody complains about modern lenses being plastic but they are. And if we talk about the image honestly the contrast in thr pentax is very weak. This stupid world of youtube where once somebody start saying something it becomes really and everybody repeats the same.. "infamous fd mount" it is just a different type of design that was good enough for professional for many years and will the same reliability than any other brand. Fan boys, fanboys and more fanboys. I used Canon fd for film and nikon for digital and film, super takumar for digital, mamiya fot film...it all comes down to character of the image and your needs
I am just about to buy the Pentax M28. Is there different variants if this?
Awesome side by side comparison! 👍
I had a great test!
Very cool!!!
nice landscape and so beautiful
I have the Pentax 28mm2.8 M lens I like the 28mm focal length on my APS-C cameras . The Pentax lens is small and unobtrusive on my camera
