    If he would have gone out a little more aggressively and didn't get boxed in, he could have gone 1:47. Big things are coming for this young man.

      I think that initial inside move cost him about half a second. He might have neared 1:49, which is a notable mark for a freshman. We shall hopefully be seeing more of him in the next few years.

    That's ridiculous! If he had been running with 1:45/46 guys he might have been under 1:47. Nice gait, neat carriage, no wasted motion, very linear, everything going in one direction - forward. I hope he gets good coaching! PATIENCE!

      @@thomasgreen1914 Thomas, I agree. Race savvy comes from experience and maturity. I hope he doesn't follow in the footsteps of so many American M-D racers, relying on the "sit and kick" game - winning national titles and getting smoked internationally

      @@Thomas-fk3cw I ended up running 1:56 as a senior. I didn’t do the type of base training that most 800m runners do because I played basketball as well. However, I think what would have benefited me the most was some weight training to make my strides more powerful.

      @@writerjmd Buddy you realize it ain’t the shoes alone that’s causing these kids to run that fast. For all we know it’s genetics, better training, nutrition, technology (in terms of recovery), etc.

      @@Sam-ob8xc makes a huge difference. those shoes let you train more with less chance of injury. shoes from the 60's weighed over twice as much and had no cushion at all. half the tracks in the 60's were driveway gravel. i never ran on a track like todays. our state champ won the 1/2 mile in 1minute52.5seconds on blacktop 55 years ago

    He shifted like three gears with 200m to go. The only other time I've ever seen a move this decisive at a high-level championship was Michael Stember at the California state meet.

      @@Thomas-fk3cw Yeah your right, but I also love Dave Wottie's race as well. He came from last place and just keep building until he caught everyone at the end. This kid just shifted into high gear and off he went. No one could even stay close to him, I am gonna keep an eye on him the next few years and hope he can get the long standing national record.

      @@RealLifeFinance I ran in the early 90s. I didn't run the 800m often, I was mostly a 400m runner but I did rarely break 2 minutes but that was usually because I had much better runners in front of me pushing me. The central coast of California has a lot of very fast T&F athletes.

      @@ajmieskolainen7170 Not really bragging. Sub 2 min 800m for a high school athlete is good but not great. I really didn't win a whole lot because I had some very stiff competition in the league and section I competed in. Which is why I didn't run the 800m very much.
      I was a sub 50sec 400m runner and won a lot more in that event.

    Holy insane this kid is fast. I hope he can stay injury free and keep his head in the game. The worst part about being fast at this age is your progression is a lot less fulfilling if you're dropping .3 and .6 here. Regardless I hope to see this fella in the olympics soon.

      I'd try him at 400m first, especially with that last 250m he ran in this race. I'm betting somewhere in the 48s with no experience. Maybe throw him in a 1500m with some 3:50 guys and see if he can keep pace with the leaders.

      Would be interesting to see him run a sub 4:00 mile as a freshman. If he can, then I would say, finish your freshman year and join a professional running team like Hobbs Kessler.

      ​@@danieltikusis5239Looks like he only runs the 400 and 800. Has a 48x in the 400. He'd have to do a lot of endurance work to crack 4 min in the mile, but I'm wicked curious what kind of mark he could put up now.

    Definitely reminds me of Alberto with that long stride that makes it look like he's jogging and that knee lift. He can run 47-48 as a freshman in the quarter, that's fast. His racing tactics are currently bad so he can probably run 1:48 as a freshman. How tall is he?

      Just for the record, he's 15. There's a few articles online that incorrectly identify him as 16, but his DOB is December 19, 2008. He's a normal age for his grade.

    Pretty amazing...is he a 400m guy moving up or a 1500m guy moving down? With that easy stride, if he isn't a 1500 phenom too, he will be.

    He doesn't look like any freshman I've ever seen... the genetics of this kid! It looked like he was jogging for the first 400. His form sucks and he didn't push himself until he realized he was getting boxed, and out of frustration went around them. When this kid gets some world class coaching, he will go all the way. This must have been what Joaquim Cruz looked like at this age. A big lumbering genetic freak with bad form but unbeatable. Cruz didn't get good coaching until he was 18 or so, this kid will be molded starting his sophomore year I'm sure because he is now officially famous. Crazy things are going to happen the next couple years in High School track between this kid, Quincy Wilson. Sadie Engelhardt and Elizabeth Leachma. WHAT THE HELL ARE THE PUTTING IN WATER!!!
