Well when you think of it each planet was colonized by a different tribe. Sagittarians, Aquarians, Capricans and so on so perhaps in their mind each tribe was a different race. We do the same and base it of slight skin difference so it's not that far fetched :)
When you’re so triggered by the word “racist” that you start arguing that it’s just prejudice or bigotry then I’m pretty sure you’ve already lost the debate. 😂
It wasn't religion; the people he was killing were the ones breaking with their religion and seeking medical attention. He hates all Sagittarons, not just the religious ones.
There is a clear difference between not liking someone for their religious beliefs and hating a different Species that comitted genocide on your people and even hunted down the few survivors even though they are not a threat. The hate from Cylons to Humans and the other way around is absolutely understandable and even justified to a degree. But the show does not leave it at that. In the beginning yes, but the love between Helo and Athena or Baltar and Caprica Six showed that there are people in both camps who can overlook past problems, the entire fourth season with the Final 5 was basically a statement on how not everything is black and white and that you beeing a cylon does not mean that you MUST hate humans and the other way around. They allied with cylons in that season and some even stayed on the new earth while they left the basestar to the centurions to finally stop the cycle (hopefully) That was all developed. And i think this episode worked very well.
To be honest if they can't breed they don't deserve to go on I don't see how an elderly woman is going to contribute in a major way to the surviving members of the species if she isn't strong enough to live in the long Helo gave his seat on the raptor in the miniseries when he could have stayed and just took baltar although things worked in the end that old woman probably died
Many people whom are unable to work in physical fields or bear offspring still have the ability to contribute in other ways, knowledge, entertainment, etc.
I dont think racism applies here. Theyre all humans. Only from different Planets. Race was never made an Issue in BSG. Only the planets the people come from. If you view that as a metaphor for racism then its you, who has the problem.
"A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn’t literally true, but helps explain an idea or make a comparison." That's the definition of a metaphor. The title of the video helps to explain the situation even if it isn't *literaly* true. Don't go around trying to bash on people for using metaphors...
That isn't a metaphor. It is a blatant misuse of the word for the situation that happened in this episode. The character disliked the people who didn't use medicine and did so because of their religion. Because of their beliefs, he thought they deserved to die. Bigotry or antireligious applies much more closely then racism which is a dislike of a person based on that person's race. There was never any discussion of racism in BSG being a problem and they showed examples of their being no gender discrimination numerous times. The society dipicted in BSG had moved away from discrimination based on race and gender. Peoples dislike of each other stemmed from the different planets they came from which more closely aligns with bigotry.
It's not racist or prejudist. He judged them because of their actions and opinions. That's the opposite of pre-judice. As for the treatment, I say respect their wishes. Let them be sick if that's their choice. But isolate them.
there are 2 meanings for racism 1/ to believe there is a ranking of race 2/ to be hostile/violent toward a specific group of people according to meaning 2, this is racism
And those of them who do want the medicine and get killed by Dr. Robert anyway because "the only thing worse than a Cylon is a Saggitaron?" No prejudice against them, right?
This was definitely an example of prejudice. He even said it. The reality is, generations of people living on separate worlds will inevitably have varying beliefs and medical capabilities.
He was killing the people that did come for meds he was killing the people that were asking for help, he was hurting people based on the actions of their nationality not their personal actions
Never liked Helo and sanctimonious attitude. Especially when he saved the Cylons from being obliterated by the virus, never mind the fact they killed billions of his own race.
A very weak episode, shoehorned in as the execs felt the serialized format was too difficult for the average viewer to understand. More proof that execs need to just shut up and leave a good thing alone.
"The Woman King" was an episode that obviously was put together with a from-the-shelf script probably originally written for some hospital show, just to fill out the season. The characters are not acting as they do in the rest of the show and in some cases as completely different characters -and most important -almost nothing in this episode has any connection to the rest of the story and is mentioned again. The episode can basically be skipped without hurting the ongoing storyline at all. This kind of episode pops up in every show and is recognized by the characters acting strangely because the whole thing is written for something else.
A race is a grouping of humans based on shared physical or social qualities into categories generally viewed as inherently distinct by society. First used to refer to speakers of a common language and then to denote national affiliations, by the 17th century the term race began to refer to physical (phenotypical) traits. It's the typical Hollywood predelection of creating an issue and creating drama where it is not needed, wanted, or necessary. Is there racism? Sadly yes, but like Morgan Freeman once said "you want to stop racism? stop talking about it". Hollywood need it's collective mouth and political bias shut down for good.
@@jonathanjoestar1938 Erm nope, racism is hatred or prejudice against someone based on a shared physical group characteristic (black skin, white skin, round eyes etc). From what the show is telling us this seems to be more in line with anti antisemitism or some kind of cultural/ nationalistic prejudice. If the sagittarons looked different (Maybe extremely tall and fragile because of their planets gravity being weaker) and the Doctor made it clear that was his reasoning behind the killing then it would be racism.

@@johnroscoe2406 Tell me how this guy isn't racist? And remember, this guy was a doctor on New Caprica. What's most shocking to me about this series was how much of a badass Helo clearly was in the miniseries...and then the writers spent the next four seasons hammering him into an early version of what we would call a "Social Justice Warrior" (SJW) today. Such a wasted character. Helo became the "conscience" of the fleet. Some conscience. What a joke.
@@cow_tools_ Helo's greatest strength is his greatest weakness; he will always do the right thing no matter what. Even if it will put the lives and safety of other people at risk, Helo would do it to protect what he values the most. We see it throughout the series; with Sharon, with the unintentional murder of Lt. Thorne on Pegasus, with this episode and even arguing against the use of biological warfare to annihilate the Cylon race to name but a few. Helo has a strong moral compass, but sometimes it is too strong and the consequences could potentially have a bigger impact that the issue he is fighting for.
All Helo does in the miniseries is give his place on the raptor to Baltar. You're thinking of S1 where he's surviving alone on Caprica for awhile. Also, your comments are very revealing. That we're supposed to consider a guy who does things like oppose a government casually planning to commit genocide or stand up to a man he's discovered is getting away with murder to be a person of conscience is "a joke" to you. I'll bet Helo and Chief preventing the Pegasus soldiers from raping Athena was a real SJW move in your mind too. That's the problem with you anti-SJW types. You take it too far, and suddenly you're willing to dismiss any actual pursuit of justice.
He absolutely did. He had Adama's ear. He should have insisted on separating Sagittarions who refused medical treatment onto their own ships. They put the fleet to risk. But going after them individually and randomly killing them is absolutely wrong especially for a doctor. Not to mention he did it even before the Cylon attack.
Yes it is. It is exactly the same way some people consider Brazilian, Mexicans, Spanish or people from outside there own country. Color of skin not included in there consideration. It is a metaphor, but one that does exist even on Earth.

Yeah this particular video hasn't aged well.
Great. I'd forgotten about this.

I didn't know.
My pleasure sir.
This episode hits differently post covid, and after seeing the "anti-medicine" fanatics actively campaign for the end of civilization as we know it.
So sagittaron is the Karen planet?
no they are more of a planet of Jehova's Witness
Definitely not big picture people, the sagittarons.
'Racist' word in this context is not appropriate. It is more of a prejudice.
Well when you think of it each planet was colonized by a different tribe. Sagittarians, Aquarians, Capricans and so on so perhaps in their mind each tribe was a different race.
We do the same and base it of slight skin difference so it's not that far fetched :)
Dickum N Lickum the V: Emperor Of RUclips. Perhaps you should just shut up. Racist is appropriate.
When you’re so triggered by the word “racist” that you start arguing that it’s just prejudice or bigotry then I’m pretty sure you’ve already lost the debate. 😂
he LITERALLY calls him a racist in the show..
This is a completely different society with completely different precepts of race compared to us.
At time index 6:48 they could have pulled the camera back some
Is Robert /our doctor/?
It wasn’t race, it was religion…
It wasn't religion; the people he was killing were the ones breaking with their religion and seeking medical attention. He hates all Sagittarons, not just the religious ones.
The religion was based on one planet primarily so maybe not race but nationality or ethnicity
Pisces
Both Jan and Dean were on BSG.?))))
Very cool
I have friends and family.
This story might have landed better if it weren't part of a show literally about a bunch of people habitually racist towards Cylons.
And i think this episode worked very well.
a show literally about coming to terms
Thatslifebro Actually the Cylons do not meet the definition of a different species. Any group which can interbreed is the same species.
You put machines on par with sentient life. Machines that committed genocide... give that "bunch of people" a break, okay
Wow you don't think much
To be honest if they can't breed they don't deserve to go on I don't see how an elderly woman is going to contribute in a major way to the surviving members of the species if she isn't strong enough to live in the long Helo gave his seat on the raptor in the miniseries when he could have stayed and just took baltar although things worked in the end that old woman probably died
I agree. There is a lot of projecting going on from whoever named this video. Pretty lame.
"racism" word will get you more clicks... (please don't ban me, I love the show)
Lol that is sad but true.
"A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn’t literally true, but helps explain an idea or make a comparison."
That's the definition of a metaphor.
It's like they were getting the clot shot...
It's not racist or prejudist.
He judged them because of their actions and opinions. That's the opposite of pre-judice.
As for the treatment, I say respect their wishes. Let them be sick if that's their choice. But isolate them.
there are 2 meanings for racism
1/ to believe there is a ranking of race
2/ to be hostile/violent toward a specific group of people
according to meaning 2, this is racism
#notallSagiterions
If Fauci were a spaceman
Go home, Trumpturd.
Saul Tigh is Deathstroke
Its not a rasicm issue its a hatred for their religious beliefs..
A race is a grouping of humans based on shared physical or social qualities into categories generally viewed as inherently distinct by society. First used to refer to speakers of a common language and then to denote national affiliations, by the 17th century the term race began to refer to physical (phenotypical) traits. Modern scholarship regards race as a social construct, that is, a symbolic identity created to establish some cultural meaning
Nah dude, it’s racism. Sorry if that triggers you but in the context of the show it’s 100% racism.
Nazis and Jews man....nazis and jews... clearly no racism involved there either.
It’s 2023, based Sagittarons would be the only ones not “dying suddenly” from a certain “safe and effective” jab. 😂
You got it sister! My guides told me to watch this show these last few weeks to see how this show was in reality a Hollywood scheme of foreboding, reality inversion and a host of other occult practices.
It brings joy seeing people who have a functioning mind.
Racist? LOL do people even know what the word means anymore?
JVRottweil if you’d watched bsg you’d know that racism in the context of the 12 colonies is quite different to racism on earth.
he LITERALLY calls him a racist in the show..
I think the showrunners know what theyre saying more than you
It does kinda apply. Prejudice based on planet of origin was a big theme in this show.
What 3rd level intern comes up with the titles of these clips?
More like a civilian. Just because the channel is called "Battlestar galactica" doesn't mean they have anything to do with the producers. They might not even hold the copyright for the show.
Lol there are so many triggered closeted racists in the comments. 😂
Dude if you have to argue that “it’s not racism it’s just bigotry” then I’m pretty sure you’ve already lost. 😂
Side note: it’s absolutely racism, in the context of the show Sagittarons would absolutely be considered a race even tho they come in all different shapes and sizes, the notion of race would be very different in the 12 colonies to how it is on earth right now, and that doctor was 100% a racist.
So an interest in proper terminology makes someone a closeted racist? What are you, 20something, white with a Liberal Arts degree?
@@johnroscoe2406 Why are you arguing that this isn't about racism?

@@rosesweetcharlotte You need to care more about real life and less about fiction you bloated cow.
I dont think BSG knows what a racist is.
In my opinion, you should put this doctor, the Sagittarions and almost everyone on this comment section inside one single ship without fuel, prepare to jump, warn the Cylons about last fleet position and then jump leaving the ship behind. And then let's see what the murdering, torturing, mutilating toasters think about morality, racism , belifs or "the needs of the many" crap.

Stop using words you dont knowthe meaning off..
What? But he's right here??
He's also often shown to be naive. Every character gets good and bad moments.
I liked him because of who he was. Everyone else was trying to kill each other and bomb everything and Helo was doing his best not to.
You take it too far, and suddenly you're willing to dismiss any actual pursuit of justice.
what a hypocrisy, a scene of someone condemning the act of racism in a show that is filled with real life racism. such blind ignorance!

Dr Robert! The friend of the Beatles.
He did nothing wrong.
So the fuck what?
Sagittarions isn't a racial description.
Yes it is. It is exactly the same way some people consider Brazilian, Mexicans, Spanish or people from outside there own country. Color of skin not included in there consideration.
It is a metaphor, but one that does exist even on Earth.
