This is the type of videos I like where you show how you got the shot. Thanks for the video.
Good to know!
Yeah, definitely would be fun to see some more of these.
Thanks Kevin!
This needs to be a reoccurring segment!
Yes please. I love watching how you set up these shots
I wasn’t at all involved in this shoot BUT when you said they asked you the night before, I felt my own stress level rise haha. This series is great! I vote that you continue this kind of content!
Ha, thanks so much for the feedback!
More PLEASE!
Thanks Mike!
BTS always appreciated! Nice job!
Thanks!
Perfect - Very Solid "Useful" Info in less then 12 MINS !
Glad you think so!
Please do more of these types of videos.
Yes, James......I LOOOVE the whole "how I made it" breakdown concept! Please keep this series going. P.S. I'm a huge fan of your work., sir
Thanks for the feedback!
Yes - continue this master class
Thanks Patrick!
Ohhhhhh. A composite. That intrigues me!
Not a composite!
@@QuantzPhoto yes, I know. But a BTS of doing a composite would be cool is what I was trying to say.
Can't wait for more in this BTP series!
Thanks Todd!
I LOVE these types of videos. You deserve every great thing coming your way! Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you!
Yes, interested in more photo break down videos.
Thanks Darren!
Yes, please share more! I love your content!
Thanks Kim!
Thank you for sharing!
Nice done and nice too see bts of your fine job! 👍👍
Thank you Sir!
@@QuantzPhoto you are inspiration nr1 and got me on youtube aswell, but on swedish for start Haha Im not a fan to be infront of the camera 🤣 so you doing alot of nice job with your videos!
So good and I love that shot!! Yes do more of these.
Interested in seeing more of these videos. Cool idea, want to try it out myself! Thanks!
Thanks Russ and give it a try!
Great video, thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
James, I love your videos, keep them coming. I've seen these shots before but never tried to dissect them to determine what the challenges might be to pull the shot off. This was great. Makes me want to try it
Thanks for the feedback Steve!
Nice work! Love the format and the info!
Thanks Carlton!
Love it James! Keep them coming
Thanks Phil!
Enjoyed this a lot! Thanks, James.
Thanks Alison!
Awesome review of how you got the shot. Definitely learned a lot from this video. Thanks for sharing and please do more.
Thanks!
Thanks James. Going to try this with one of my teams. Think I’ll probably use my 1200ws ringlight.
Brilliant! Great video too! Thanks for explaining and posting!!!
Glad it was helpful!
James, this was great! Thank you for sharing! Would love to see more of this kind of quick behind the scenes vids…..
You really ought to pick up a couple of the MagMod XL starter kits. They are really good quality modifiers when you need a nice soft light, but have very tight spacing, or if the weather is bad, and you can’t use a large beauty dish.
Wishing you a happy healthy and successful new year!
Thanks for sharing! I’ve thought about this shot before but the lighting stumped me. Simple elegant solution with the second small diffused light to add.
Good stuff! (as always)
Thanks Terry!
These videos are so helpful to see how you got the shot but more so how you worked through the issues. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and process with us.
Thanks Liza!
Great video as always! Keep em coming
Thanks for the feedback!
Great video. I would like to see more break downs.
You got it!
Thanks James such great into.
Thanks Jason!
More please
Thank you for the tip. I like the idea. Just getting on the floor and shooting up is a little uncomfortable for me. Our idea is great
Thanks for sharing, this is a great shot and very interesting how you accomplish it. I would love to see how you put the composite of the men together.
Another designer did the Men's composite actually.
Great, informative video as always!
I did a similar shot for the local HS boys team. Wish I would have thought about using Capture One...instead I was laying on the floor looking up. FWIW, I used the AD200 ring flash to light the team.
Thanks for sharing Rustin!
Came to the comment section to comment the ring flash idea. with the canon app you can do remote shooting too so it would have be easy to achieve. 2 ad 100 or 300 would do great instead of the ring flash because you could flip the screen out (ring flash would cover the screen) so they can have a look at their posing and facial expression before the photo is taken.
Great video as always, love your channel. I guess you could also try laying a reflector on the ground and bouncing your flash off that?
You could also use Cannon Connect with your R5 to take the photo. Using your phone or iPad
Thanks for sharing Ron!
you needed a car inspection pit!
Yes, that would've relieved some stress! 🤣
As a new sports photographer thank you so much for this!! I am new to lighting so this is a huge help when looking at a shot and going "how did they take that"
Awesome!
Keep it up love these videos!! Question, do you use back button focus, if so you have to change that? You just move your focus point to a players face or zone focus? Thank you.
I was just using face-detect in camera. If need be you can also select focal points in live view as well.
@@QuantzPhoto Did not know i could use face detect without pressing a button!! Didn't know i could use it teatered. There is a video to learn something new!! Thanks
Loved it James nice work. The team logo centered up in the shot made a nice touch too I wonder why it was removed. Was it not sharp enough at the f stop you used perhaps?
It was just the designer's decision.
Great job as always… what was your focus point for your shot?
Facial recognition
Great video, James! Do you have a Platypod device? Would have been perfect for this!
Yeah but this was thinking on the fly!
Great one James! I’ve done it for group shots, not a full team. Did you stick to 5.6 or close down to an 8th for sharp edges? Tricky to find a perfect focus. Point.
It's in the video - I can't remember as I type this!
Great execution!
I really appreciate these breakdowns showing creative solutions to grabbing unique photos.
Team posters always stink. The composited posters are so boring, and even the ones done really well look gimmicky. I think this turned out great.
The light looks like it falls off pretty evenly on their torsos, did you have to do a lot of adjustment, as I would think the lower down their body the more it would be overexposed as it gets closer to the strobes.
I actually didn't have to make any exposure adjustments as you could hopefully tell from the right out of camera samples in the video.
Thanks for the video. Helpful and informative. Weren't you worried that you would dazzle the team with the two flashers , even though low powered, directly into their faces?
Not really. I just told them not to at the camera and not the lights.
Great video, thanks! No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't see the flashes being used! They should be visible on the mark 06:45, but they are not there!
They flashed!
@@QuantzPhoto Yes, I see how they flash, but I don’t see the devices themselves!
Hmmm, so you say it was two wescott strobes pointing up, why do some of the players have superman edge lighting? Were they composited in later?
There's ambient lighting. The main focus of the video was capturing it all in camera and not compositing...
How do you fire the strobes?
With the remote on the camera.
I'm about to steal this for a 10 year old girl's basketball team lol
Do it!!
@@QuantzPhoto I'll probably get 2 minutes max, so it's gonna be a crunch. Their Rec League gym is booked solid, so it *has* to be during practice time lol. I'm using the sony zeis 16-35 f4, which is much shorter than the RF one you have, so I'm *hoping* it will give me some leeway. I have a max of 8 players, and I did some, "me squatting down with an ipad in live view" tests, and I'm thinking it'll work
@@QuantzPhoto Sad to report, 1 girl didn't show and another didn't bring her uniform lol
