I am an ATP alumni finished the MEI phase in july 2022. I had a wife, kid, and two jobs while doing it. I could not have done it without ATP. The accelerated self study is not for everyone though.
As a 16 Yr Old Junior in Highschool I am working on my PPL at Centennial. I'm hoping to have it before the end of Senior year so I can begin my Instrument Rating. Super Helpful and inspirational video, keep it up!
Thats awesome man! Keeps working towards that PPL, instrument is really fun especially because you get a break from doing maneuvers all the time lol. Best of luck on your journey dude and thanks for watching!
As a college senior in my last semester and working on my PPL, I am looking into ATP for my IR and so forth so these updates and videos are so freaking clutch! Keep it up fam!
Jahmal, I loved your interview on Pro Pilot Playbook! Your focus and story was really inspiring and you have such a bright future ahead of you! I just passed my private and have looked more into ATP at KTIW after hearing about your experience. There’s so many horror stories you hear about ATP but hearing from a current student about the realities of it is gold. Please keep us posted as you progress!
I always tell people to add 2-3 months for budgeting. That is just how it is with most flight schools, not just ATP. They make a timeline, and delays happen (school, student and outside factors). Don't spend all day at the Holdshort line at FXE haha. Keep it up, best of luck! Edit: NVM about FXE. Thought you were in South FL, think I heard you say Denver mid vid.
That’s awesome family! I am happy and proud of you. As I am working on my instrument rating right now, and it is kicking my butt, I know what it means to be instrument read. Congratulations and keep on grinding!
Thanks man! Instrument is tough but you got it! You’ll get to a point where everything just clicks and you’ll absolutely love it! Thanks again man I appreciate you watching the video.
I have always had ATP in mind but at the same time had doubts if it will be worth it or not. Especially as a Ghanaian girl living in canada. I got my motivation from your first video and this one. Thanks for sharing.
That’s why I started making videos! Thanks for watching! ATP is a big jump, if you’re no really sold on the idea try going to your local flight school for a couple hours then see how you feel after that.
Congratulations!!! Im considering ATP for my instrument and will go from there. Thanks for this video and what a great accomplishment from you!!! Can’t wait to see you at the airlines
Hey man I watched your first ATP video. I live in Denver and have recently started looking at becoming a pilot. I appreciate your videos and congratulations on your instrument check ride. I was wondering if I could maybe get your number and get a little more specific information and what it’s like at centennial specifically as I don’t know if I should go out of state to a part 141 or maybe try atp in centennial. Let me know if we could make that happen!
Congrats on your new job! Is there a specific ATP location you'd recommend? I'm concerned about Sim availability. It looks like housing is not available at most locations I may have to buy a camper and find an Rv park. Does double occupancy mean 2 to an apartment or 2 to a bedroom?
Hey Jahmal! Congrants on your checkride! I'm planning to start ATP next year, I'm hoping January or February depending on the start time. They told me they were all booked for 2023 so until 24 I'm aiming to knockout my writtens and study as much ground theory as I can, test things out in simulators. I'm up in Michigan though, and I'm nervous the weather in the winter months here will delay my PPL flying. Do you recommend I go down south? The location here is about 20 minutes away only so it's really ideal but Michigan weather has me on edge.
Hey man, thank you! Yeah the program is pretty full right now the starts dates are way back. Getting some written exams out the way will definitely put you on the right track. I absolutely recommend going to a location where the weather is better, it can make a huge difference in your progression is the program. Also talk to ATP to see which location have more aircraft because that makes a huge difference too. I’m in Centennial, CO and winter is a factor but it’s not as bad as Michigan and I’m at a maintenance location with a bunch of planes. But, look into the Fort Myers’s location, and LZU I heard they’re both good southern locations.
@@Jahmalthepilot Thanks so much for the info! You've no idea how beneficial your work has been for me and a lot of others. I found it difficult trying to navigate how to get into this profession and industry, so much stuff to know and many uncertainties. Anyway, keep it up and good luck can't wait to see your further success!
First off congrats, I just wanted to know if I can join ATP straight out of high school. My dream is to become an airline pilot but I’m not sure what the best pathway is. Any advice is helpful. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you! Honestly I don’t have a set study schedule. Usually if I have a flight I’ll stay at the training center once I get back till I get hungry. That can vary between 2-8 hours after my flight. Some days I’ll come to the training center just to study for 8 hours straight like it’s a work shift, but there are also days that I stay home and don’t study at all. I try to hold myself to at least 1-2 hours of solid studying everyday. Now when I was preparing for my IRA written exam I was studying Sheppards Air for 4 hours a day for a week straight. You’ll have plenty of free time in the program if you’re not studying your chillin and if you not chillin your studying lol.
Completing your writtens before is major. It’s really the only thing you have in your control before attending ATP outside of earning your Private. I wouldn’t worry about anything else until you’re enrolled in the program. Make sure you have the required hours to come in with your private it’s something like 78 hours.
I studied for the PAR for about a month, the IRA and FII I studied for two weeks and now I'm scheduled to take my CAX tomorrow and I've only studied for 2-3 days. I recommend using Sheppard Air for all written exams beyond the PAR.
Passed my PPL on Tuesday this week. I have my intro flight with ATP next Saturday. Is every location to you knowledge booked fully or do you think my location in Georgia (4 different locations) will be booked? Im wanting to start right away so I may ask what locations everywhere will be available.
Congrats on becoming a private pilot! Yeah, to my knowledge everywhere is backed up till March. Try to get signed up as faster as possible if you really want to get started because start dates get pushed back every week.
Sweet man, I was just at GKY last week on crew. We spend the night there then flew out to IWA. But, Pilots Cafe is your best friend. Everything you need to know is in there, I would back it up with the instrument flying handbook and the FAR/AIM though for a deeper understanding. If you can use the sim after hours do it you’ll get comfortable with all your approaches a lot faster. Use the Live ATC app to learn all the possible radio calls for IFR flying it’s a little different than VFR calls. Listen to clearance frequencies help a lot for copying down CRAFT. Also watching corporate pilots here on RUclips fly on IFR flight plans helped me understanding what it means to be ahead of the airplane and procedures.
It all depends how fast you complete the required task that ATP asks you to do. It’s more than just getting a loan to start the program. 1. Pre-Enrollment Interview 2. Admission flight 3. First class medical 4. Meet the height and weight limits (6’3 250lbs) 5. If credit private 78 hrs total time and 8 hours XC PIC. 6. Proof of funding (loan approval) 7. Non-Refundable Deposit 8. Signing E-documents/ Citizenship verification You can’t get a class date till complete all that and you pay the deposit. You have to pay the deposit out of pocket it can’t be drawn from your loan. I paid $995. I started the process in the beginning of April finished in May and got a started date for July 10th.
Yeah, about a year is what it’s looking like. Mainly due to the DPE shortage. They’re trying their best to get people through the program, but it’s hard to find DPEs. Depending on your location you might have better luck so it’s possible to finish in 7 months. Some people work, but it can get tricky when your flight gets pushed back or moved up earlier and then it gets in the way of your shift. Things change very last minute in the program. I waited a month for my checkride then one random day I got a notification that my checkride was scheduled for the next day at 10am.
@@dustindustries42 no problem man, and yeah my loan contract with Meritize is set up so I make zero payments during the program, $150 per month for 18 months once I finish the program, then my full payments of $1197 for 240 months (20 years). I plan on making double payments or even triple payments once the big airline pilot bucks start rolling in so it doesn’t take me 20 years.
@@davidherrera63 Yessir! The program was 76k when I started, but I took out 96k to cover living expenses, checkride fees, and written exams. I also have an interest rate of 9%. Here’s the way I look at it. Right now $1200 a month is insane which I completely agree with you it is CRAZY… right now. But when you think about how much money you’ll be making just at the regionals alone you’re looking at a minimum salary of $85k per year which is $7k per month. Paying $1200 a month in student loans is very doable and that’s just the minimum. Plenty of regional pilots are making $100k per year which is about $8.3k per month. In this time in aviation most pilots are only spending 2-3 years at the regionals then on to a major. And at a major the first year you’ll be making $100k easily and from that point on you can expect earnings $150k, $200k, $300k and eventually over $500k. So in the big picture $1200 a month will become chump change. But right now as an unemployed flight school student $1200 is absolutely INSANE.
Love to see it man! You have a strong future ahead of you!
