The combat is so good. Seems like they've taken from many of their other games. Shift = P5's Baton Pass. Theurgy Meter + Skills = SMT V's Magatsuhi Meter + Skills. Atlus has really grown a lot, and it's amazing they've evolved the game while still sticking to its core identity. Nothing to complain about as a fan of the PS2 versions of the game.
Problem with this is the bosses dont seem to enjoy these mechanics at all or have a way to stop them working unlike the final boss of P5Royal. Thus its awfully one sided combat
This game is so special to me, my favorite Persona game in terms of characters, theme and story. It seems that most people played P4 as their first Persona game, and not a lot of them gave P3 a chance. So this is like the perfect opportunity for them to try this game, and I'm excited for that.

Literally me. I played 4 as my first, then 5. At the time, I only played about 10 hours in P3 portable then stopped and thought 5 was the best yet. Finished reloaded just now and now I definitely know 3 is peak Persona. 3 > 5 > 4
After starting my playthrough in 2022 after coming to Game Pass, I finally finished Persona 5 Royal last night and what a ride it was. Thanks for the great recommendation Matty, and it was hilarious hearing the music in the game that you use for your videos. I'm excited to dive into this after the post game depression wears off.

Persona 3 Portable was my first Persona game and I loved it so much! I'm hoping Altus would do a FeMC route in the future. 😢 From what I've seen so far with Reload, it looks so great.

Never got the chance to play the 3rd one but i always heard it was really good. I started with persona 5 and really loved the game play! It was just a whole different game experience. So i got the chance to try persona 3 on the game pass today and have to say i love the art! Also the story is crazy! To think they didn't keep using the persona gun. Don't get me wrong in 5 its really cool with you get to see joker persona for the first time but i was very shocked seeing Makoto Yuki persona cinematic for the first time i really love the ascetic of this persona game & i can really see and appreciate how the game blew up
While P4 also doesn't have a gun it's equally fucked up, so I can recommend it. It looks very colourful and cheery (people back then complained about P3 being a bit too dark), but it literally starts with a corpse wrapped around a satellite dish and the story is about a serial killer and TVs. lol Good times.
I'm not only planning on picking it up, i'm planning on leaving work early as soon as the Amazon machine tells me that it has been delivered. Loved 5 (my first persona game). And i loved SMT5. I played a bit of 3 portable, but I bought 4G at the same time and started that. Didn't finish it yet, but 3R is definitely the focus now. Going to beat that one, then FF7rebirth. Then it will be Summer and hopefully we get news of P6 or 4G-remake this fall.

Persona 5 is nearly 7 years old can’t believe it so its good to have another new persona game. Looks likena complete remake of 3 but for 70 bucks i may wait for a price drop or just get it when i have nothing else to play at the moment.

I'm enjoying it despite the story starting pretty slow, but I like slow burns and apparently the game has a great second half. This actually took me off Infinite Wealth which works cause that game has character/chapter descriptions to easily jump back in at some point.
Im at the very beginning of my playthrough and i think it's a perfect evolution of 3's formula into a modern state. I was worried it would totally copy 5's loop bar for bar but it maintains what made persona 3 so important to the series while modernizing it for modern consumption
Kenji and Kazuhiko's social links always bothered me in how to advance them I had to go against my instincts and tell them what they want to hear instead of what is for their own good
I think that's intentional. A Persona is a mask. And I think P3 does a good job with your social links where you have to mask yourself to build connections rather than just generally be a nice person, which is how later games treat social links. You have to act like an asshole to the monk to get him to open up to you. You have to pretend to agree with Tanaka's schemes to get him to like you, etc.

I just want to say thank you so much for this video I am really interested in getting Persona 3 reload. Persona 3 Portable was my very first Persona game and then I ended up playing innocent sin as my second I still have yet to play Golden but I'm really looking forward to that at some point I cannot wait to see what reload will be when I have before you get my hands on that one as well
Yep, been waiting a long time for this one and it is awesome! Btw, as far as that first boss that kicked your butt in P3P, best way to fix that was to hit at least lv 10 before that fight. Go all the way to the end of the first block on the first full night, fighting every enemy you can until you hit at least lv 10, then spend the rest of the time until the first full moon raising your stats and doing socials. Most efficient way of getting things done.
3 was my first but I never really got around to beating it. The first one I beat was 4, and 5 was freaking amazing. So I’m looking forward to finishing 3R.
I don't mind when it takes longer for the story to get going, it gives you the opportunity to immerse. Also I would say the comment about social links not having benefits is not accurate. By spending time with your teammates you unlock significant passive buffs for each member that are extremely beneficial for fighting shadows in Tartarus(unless you are playing on easy or something where combat doesn't matter) all in all still my favorite game in the series. I laugh a bit to myself when I can sit and say that cutscenes and soundtrack alone in persona games are better on their own than entire other games. 10/10.
Why would P6 come out this year? There is unironically a 0% chance it comes out in 2024. Atlus hasn’t said a word about it and there’s been no leaks. We probably won’t get P6 for a long time, maybe 2027 or 2028. I don’t think they’re even working on it.

Having a blast with it. They really pulled off keeping the original vibe of the game, but putting it on par with P5. I was worried for nothing, as I thought it was just going to be a new UI and coat of paint, but its alot more than that. If anyone's on the fence about the DLC, let me just say these characters wear the phantom thieves outfits better than the phantom thieves do LOL.
Gaming is just unreal right now. Multiple great games coming out every month. Yakuza, Persona 3, Final Fantasy 7 remake part 2, Hellblade 2, Stellar Blade all within a few months from each other. And I haven't even started Baldurs Gate 3 yet. Hard to keep up but that is a great problem to have.
This is the first Persona game i have ever played, so its good to hear the opinion of someone who played these games a lot. I played this game for 10 hours at the moment and i like the battle system a lot, but i had 2 hours of battles and 8 hours of moving .PNG’s talking to each repeating the plot of the story over and over again. And that’s frustrating, really makes me feel like i’m wasting time instead of having fun. But the music is amazing! And i’m going to finish the game, even if i realize halfway through the story that it might not be my type of game.
I played 5, then 5 strikers, and then 4 golden. In each of them, I only got really sucked in after I started getting a good distance into social links, around 12-15 hours in. I've never played 3, but a lot of people say it's the best one. I would say you're right around the corner from getting your sleep schedule destroyed if it's like the other games in the series.
Well Matty I finally gave Persona a shot. Played Persona 3 Reload on Gamepass, just finished it tonight and I was completely and utterly blown away. What an incredible experience. Now I just need to decide between 4 Golden or 5 Royal next :D
Play Royal. I would wait until a proper Persona 4 remake with updated graphics. Because if you started with P3 Reload, you’re not going to appreciate the older mechanics of P4 as much 😂
Yeah. I'm really, really happy for my male friends who also like Persona 3! They're having a bunch of fun with it, and I like seeing my friends happy. I just wish I could also get the same experience they're getting right now from a female player's perspective. I'm used to playing as a guy, and it's not like I can't play as a male protagonist- it just would have been nice if they'd at least made her DLC or something. I would have paid for it in a heartbeat.
I hear a lot of people say they like Junpei's new voice. I can't say I dig it. It sounds like the voice actor is trying to imitate the original voice but it comes off sounding a little squeaky? On the other hand there is a lot of dislike for Akihiko's new voice and I think it's just fine. It is a tall task to follow up Liam O'Brien's performance. If that didn't exist, I don't think people would feel so strongly negative about this new voice.
The way you acquire your persona and three was my favorite because you're on the roof and you get this like anger and a surge of power that comes over. You remind me of like dragon Ball and then you see how he screens persona and then that's when you unlock your first persona. That's been my favorite thing about about the persona series. I don't like that it goes on a day to day and then you have only a calendar year to complete the game because you're in school. I hate that because I like to take my sweet time when I play games. I'm never rushing through a game so I'm one of those people that likes to explore every corner. Every you know look for areas every secret I can find. You know even if there isn't anything in the corner I still want to search you know and find out for my own. So that's the only thing that disappoints me about. The persona is that you have a time limit to complete the game, but other than that I love persona games. It's one of my favorite turn base of all time because of the adult theme
As a long time persona fan I am so glad they remade this game. It’s so fun, I have been playing all day today on Xbox. 3 was one of my top favorites back in the ps2. I would love to see them show persona 1 and 2 some love and make modern remakes of them!
This is my 4th favorite game of all time so I am glad the remake turned out great. I am still getting used to Yukari's voice though. She is my favorite character and the new voice isn't bad by any means but the original was just perfect.
I played this in college and had no idea how to play a Persona game. I still have nightmares about (never beating) Nyx. So glad i got to do it over a decade later in Reload 😅
Got it on Thursday cause I set my Xbox time to Japan time 😅 I’m already at the beach part😅. A healthy mix of work, personal 3 reload, and 2-3 hours of sleep 😎😅
Monad Doors are a retooling of the Monad Depths, which was a hidden/bonus block or Tartarus for NG+ -- the whole point of the Monad Depths though is just an endgame grind so you can eventually fight Elizabeth/Theodore(P3P). I'm not sure if they're going to keep the Monad Depths, but its not "new" new... just a retooling.
I’m well into my first persona game (P5R) and I’m really enjoying it. I’m getting a little OP and the game is a little too easy if you use the mechanics. (The Reaper did wreck me though 😅) However, I still love it. I bought P4G and P3R recently and I’m so excited to play them. I think I’m playing this one next.
I think Matty ate his words when he said “Reload is more digestible”. I clocked in around the 110 hours mark and that is not including Episode Aigis (which I heard it’s going to be 40-50 hours). There are only two flaws I have with P3. First is the social links. Almost of the confidants can be summed up as “I am [insert character archetype] because of my family”. I’m talking about characters like Hayase, Suemitsu, Fuuka. There are a few notable ones like Bunkichi, Kenji, Miyamoto (who became the template for Ryuji in P5). The second flaw is Tartarus. In the main game, Tartarus is a bit more bearable because there’s the social sim aspect and everything you do in the social sim makes your exploration more easier. Imagine my surprise when I booted up Episode Aigis, expecting some post-game content but new bells and whistles, instead I’m back to level 25 and doing Tartarus nonstop and NOT ENOUGH MONEY OR SP FOR ANYTHING. I have made the decision to just lower the difficulty down to Easy and blow through the story. What a fucking chore
We will see. Persona 4 and 5 are some of my favorites of all time. The great news I will be playing on gamepass for free. I am more of a PlayStation and Nintendo guy but game pass alone made the X box Series S a great buy
This is my first persona ever. I decided to finally give this franchise a shot cause it was on Gamepass Now i want to play them all. Tactica is next. Then 4 or 5. Which ever is cheaper when i get done with the others first. I wasnt a huge jrpg fan. Love crpgs and others but now i want to dive in
Fantastic review, gave me exactly want I wanted with minimal spoilers. My only negative is spoiling music. Persona tracks are usually bangers and I love getting hit with those jams completely blind. Quickly fast forwarded past those and enjoyed hearing your opinion. The highlight on the quality of life stuff and the changes between the different P3 games was informative thank you.
The only real downside thing to this game is that its still old game design being remade but it still has that kind of boring old style map thing for tartarus where is bland empty and samy across the board. P4 changed things up, but p5 really went next level on this aspect of the design.
I literally cant go back to 5 after this. Fes with the controllable party mod made it my fav persona ik ppl dislike tartarus but i prefer that waaay more than papaces and metaverse. P4 was goated with dungeons doe imo
I’m so excited. Have to wait till I get paid next week to pick it up on PS5 but it’s downloading now on my series X. I’m glad Xbox users can enjoy Persona games now but I have to have physical copies on the PlayStation. Just nostalgia not fanboying for a console. There certainly is a lot of dialogue in the Persona games, many people love that, I personally think it's a bit too much. I obtained Persona 4 Golden yesterday, and so far, about two hours in, it is a good game!

I’m just sad it’s not on switch! I played both 4g and 5r for the first time last year and a big part of why I stuck with them was being able to play in bed for an hour (sometimes 3) every night. I’m going to try this one out with game pass ultimate on PC and hope streaming to my phone will help lol!

Atlus is a very strange company in the industry…and very secluded, it's like they live on a island away from everyone else and do whatever they do. Sometimes they randomly tell you on a Tuesday evening “here’s the sequel to a PS1 game from 100 years ago enjoy" or "here’s a remake, we’re definitely not working on Persona 6"- Not to mention this partnership with Microsoft, finally having P3, 4 and 5 on all platforms, as well as Ultimax with even rollback netcode. This is all setting up for something and I think they want Persona 6 to blow up even more than 5 did. It’s like I’m selling all these diamonds to make a mega diamond one day. Ok Atlus you do you.

28+ hours and in NG+ and this is by far the best GAME I've ever played. It beat FO new vegas, and gta on my top 3 list. I CRIED when I ended my run

i would love to se epersona 1 and 2 remake but with modern graphics and modern take similar to persona 3-5
Im at the very beginning of my playthrough and i think it's a perfect evolution of 3's formula into a modern state. I was worried it would totally copy 5's loop bar for bar but it maintains what made persona 3 so important to the series while modernizing it for modern consumption
Kenji and Kazuhiko's social links always bothered me in how to advance them I had to go against my instincts and tell them what they want to hear instead of what is for their own good
I think that's intentional. A Persona is a mask. And I think P3 does a good job with your social links where you have to mask yourself to build connections rather than just generally be a nice person, which is how later games treat social links. You have to act like an asshole to the monk to get him to open up to you. You have to pretend to agree with Tanaka's schemes to get him to like you, etc.

I just want to say thank you so much for this video I am really interested in getting Persona 3 reload. Persona 3 Portable was my very first Persona game and then I ended up playing innocent sin as my second I still have yet to play Golden but I'm really looking forward to that at some point I cannot wait to see what reload will be when I have before you get my hands on that one as well

Yep, been waiting a long time for this one and it is awesome! Btw, as far as that first boss that kicked your butt in P3P, best way to fix that was to hit at least lv 10 before that fight. Go all the way to the end of the first block on the first full night, fighting every enemy you can until you hit at least lv 10, then spend the rest of the time until the first full moon raising your stats and doing socials. Most efficient way of getting things done.

3 was my first but I never really got around to beating it. The first one I beat was 4, and 5 was freaking amazing. So I’m looking forward to finishing 3R.
I don't mind when it takes longer for the story to get going, it gives you the opportunity to immerse. Also I would say the comment about social links not having benefits is not accurate. By spending time with your teammates you unlock significant passive buffs for each member that are extremely beneficial for fighting shadows in Tartarus(unless you are playing on easy or something where combat doesn't matter) all in all still my favorite game in the series. I laugh a bit to myself when I can sit and say that cutscenes and soundtrack alone in persona games are better on their own than entire other games. 10/10.
I never played the og persona 3 so this is a totally brand new experience for me, so happy. Hopefully we get persona 6 at the end of this year LMAO
Why would P6 come out this year? There is unironically a 0% chance it comes out in 2024. Atlus hasn’t said a word about it and there’s been no leaks. We probably won’t get P6 for a long time, maybe 2027 or 2028. I don’t think they’re even working on it.

Having a blast with it. They really pulled off keeping the original vibe of the game, but putting it on par with P5. I was worried for nothing, as I thought it was just going to be a new UI and coat of paint, but its alot more than that.
If anyone's on the fence about the DLC, let me just say these characters wear the phantom thieves outfits better than the phantom thieves do LOL.

Gaming is just unreal right now. Multiple great games coming out every month. Yakuza, Persona 3, Final Fantasy 7 remake part 2, Hellblade 2, Stellar Blade all within a few months from each other. And I haven't even started Baldurs Gate 3 yet. Hard to keep up but that is a great problem to have.

This is the first Persona game i have ever played, so its good to hear the opinion of someone who played these games a lot. I played this game for 10 hours at the moment and i like the battle system a lot, but i had 2 hours of battles and 8 hours of moving .PNG’s talking to each repeating the plot of the story over and over again. And that’s frustrating, really makes me feel like i’m wasting time instead of having fun. But the music is amazing! And i’m going to finish the game, even if i realize halfway through the story that it might not be my type of game.
I played 5, then 5 strikers, and then 4 golden. In each of them, I only got really sucked in after I started getting a good distance into social links, around 12-15 hours in. I've never played 3, but a lot of people say it's the best one. I would say you're right around the corner from getting your sleep schedule destroyed if it's like the other games in the series.
If it's anything like the original you really have to make it to the first couple timed roadblocks in Tartarus before the game fully opens up.
Well Matty I finally gave Persona a shot. Played Persona 3 Reload on Gamepass, just finished it tonight and I was completely and utterly blown away. What an incredible experience. Now I just need to decide between 4 Golden or 5 Royal next :D
Play Royal. I would wait until a proper Persona 4 remake with updated graphics. Because if you started with P3 Reload, you’re not going to appreciate the older mechanics of P4 as much 😂
Persona 3 Reload is good but no FeMC is a letdown for me, I really want to play as her in the remake.
Yeah. I'm really, really happy for my male friends who also like Persona 3! They're having a bunch of fun with it, and I like seeing my friends happy. I just wish I could also get the same experience they're getting right now from a female player's perspective. I'm used to playing as a guy, and it's not like I can't play as a male protagonist- it just would have been nice if they'd at least made her DLC or something. I would have paid for it in a heartbeat.

I hear a lot of people say they like Junpei's new voice. I can't say I dig it. It sounds like the voice actor is trying to imitate the original voice but it comes off sounding a little squeaky? On the other hand there is a lot of dislike for Akihiko's new voice and I think it's just fine. It is a tall task to follow up Liam O'Brien's performance. If that didn't exist, I don't think people would feel so strongly negative about this new voice.

The way you acquire your persona and three was my favorite because you're on the roof and you get this like anger and a surge of power that comes over. You remind me of like dragon Ball and then you see how he screens persona and then that's when you unlock your first persona. That's been my favorite thing about about the persona series. I don't like that it goes on a day to day and then you have only a calendar year to complete the game because you're in school. I hate that because I like to take my sweet time when I play games. I'm never rushing through a game so I'm one of those people that likes to explore every corner. Every you know look for areas every secret I can find. You know even if there isn't anything in the corner I still want to search you know and find out for my own. So that's the only thing that disappoints me about. The persona is that you have a time limit to complete the game, but other than that I love persona games. It's one of my favorite turn base of all time because of the adult theme

As a long time persona fan I am so glad they remade this game. It’s so fun, I have been playing all day today on Xbox. 3 was one of my top favorites back in the ps2.
I would love to see them show persona 1 and 2 some love and make modern remakes of them!
This is my 4th favorite game of all time so I am glad the remake turned out great. I am still getting used to Yukari's voice though. She is my favorite character and the new voice isn't bad by any means but the original was just perfect.
I played this in college and had no idea how to play a Persona game. I still have nightmares about (never beating) Nyx. So glad i got to do it over a decade later in Reload 😅

Monad Doors are a retooling of the Monad Depths, which was a hidden/bonus block or Tartarus for NG+ -- the whole point of the Monad Depths though is just an endgame grind so you can eventually fight Elizabeth/Theodore(P3P).
I'm not sure if they're going to keep the Monad Depths, but its not "new" new... just a retooling.

I’m well into my first persona game (P5R) and I’m really enjoying it. I’m getting a little OP and the game is a little too easy if you use the mechanics. (The Reaper did wreck me though 😅) However, I still love it. I bought P4G and P3R recently and I’m so excited to play them. I think I’m playing this one next.
I think Matty ate his words when he said “Reload is more digestible”. I clocked in around the 110 hours mark and that is not including Episode Aigis (which I heard it’s going to be 40-50 hours).
There are only two flaws I have with P3. First is the social links. Almost of the confidants can be summed up as “I am [insert character archetype] because of my family”. I’m talking about characters like Hayase, Suemitsu, Fuuka. There are a few notable ones like Bunkichi, Kenji, Miyamoto (who became the template for Ryuji in P5). The second flaw is Tartarus. In the main game, Tartarus is a bit more bearable because there’s the social sim aspect and everything you do in the social sim makes your exploration more easier. Imagine my surprise when I booted up Episode Aigis, expecting some post-game content but new bells and whistles, instead I’m back to level 25 and doing Tartarus nonstop and NOT ENOUGH MONEY OR SP FOR ANYTHING. I have made the decision to just lower the difficulty down to Easy and blow through the story. What a fucking chore
We will see. Persona 4 and 5 are some of my favorites of all time. The great news I will be playing on gamepass for free. I am more of a PlayStation and Nintendo guy but game pass alone made the X box Series S a great buy

The only real downside thing to this game is that its still old game design being remade but it still has that kind of boring old style map thing for tartarus where is bland empty and samy across the board. P4 changed things up, but p5 really went next level on this aspect of the design.
I literally cant go back to 5 after this. Fes with the controllable party mod made it my fav persona ik ppl dislike tartarus but i prefer that waaay more than papaces and metaverse. P4 was goated with dungeons doe imo
I’m so excited. Have to wait till I get paid next week to pick it up on PS5 but it’s downloading now on my series X. I’m glad Xbox users can enjoy Persona games now but I have to have physical copies on the PlayStation. Just nostalgia not fanboying for a console. I always have been and always will be a multi platform guy.
There certainly is a lot of dialogue in the Persona games, many people love that, I personally think it's a bit too much. I obtained Persona 4 Golden yesterday, and so far, about two hours in, it is a good game!

As much as I adore P4 and P5 I much prefer the simple dungeon level design and focus on social links and progress than just deadlines

I’m just sad it’s not on switch! I played both 4g and 5r for the first time last year and a big part of why I stuck with them was being able to play in bed for an hour (sometimes 3) every night. I’m going to try this one out with game pass ultimate on PC and hope streaming to my phone will help lol!

Atlus is a very strange company in the industry…and very secluded, it's like they live on a island away from everyone else and do whatever they do. Sometimes they randomly tell you on a Tuesday evening “here’s the sequel to a PS1 game from 100 years ago enjoy" or "here’s a remake, we’re definitely not working on Persona 6"-
Not to mention this partnership with Microsoft, finally having P3, 4 and 5 on all platforms, as well as Ultimax with even rollback netcode. This is all setting up for something and I think they want Persona 6 to blow up even more than 5 did. It’s like I’m selling all these diamonds to make a mega diamond one day. Ok Atlus you do you.
I’m happy people will get to experience the best Persona game in the series. That said, check out the Shin Megami Tensei series proper.
