I started playing persona this year through gamepass thanks to your videos. I started with P5R and absolutely fell in love, to the point that I really believes has changed my life. I played around 80 hours and unfortunately it left gamepass and I wasnt able to finish it. So I decided to start P4G until P3Reload hits gamepass and OMFG!!! At start it was a little difficult to adapt after P5R bur holy damm the story and characters are sooooooo amazing. I truly believe I am falling in love even more with P4G than P5R. So much fun and addictive.
Saw it was on sale for 11.99 on switch e shop and picked it up. Currently feeling myself becoming obsessed. Such a good feeling to just be getting into a masterpiece. I never thought I could top my excited that I felt for NieR Automata but thankfully this game is filling the void for me 😊
I can't believe you stopped at "that part"! And you're exactly right, even if you stopped the game right there, it's still a great game! I think it was by luck I made the right decisions my first playthrough.
Thank you for showing the manual. I wish I had it now finally getting around to playing P4 Golden on Vita. I'm having a hard time keeping up with the enormous amount of things you're supposed to do. The dungeon I'm in (I think it's the second one) is very hard. The enemies jumped in difficulty a lot all of a sudden and I don't understand how I'm supposed to gain exp/levels since there is a time limit on the story. I'm actually feeling anxiety about it instead of enjoying it like everyone says I should be. I hate to look up a guide right at the beginning of the game. Everything else about it is really great like you say in the video. The game is incredibly well written and I don't mind the look and feel of the dungeons. It's really this idea that time is progressing with everything I do and I have to get the dungeon done by a particular day or I'll lose everything I've worked for that I don't understand.
Thanks for getting me into this game when it came to steam in 2020. One of my absolute favorite games ever now. Also made me reflect on my own high school experience
I made the same mistake. Thankfully it only took me 2 months to realize it. P4G is one of my favorite games of all time. Also the true ending made tear up.
Honestly, the simpler fighting mechanics honestly brings this home for me because I felt like with all of the things that you had access to especially by persona 5 Royal even on the hardest difficulty it was a cakewalk I like one or two shot the final boss I'm pretty sure.
Vanilla Persona 5 is harder than Persona 4 in Hard Mode. It was made in response to the strong critique to Persona 4 by hardcore fans in Japan first and in the west later, since the game originally dumbed everything down to make it more accessible compared to Persona 3, one of the most hardcore games ever made.
This was my first persona and made me LOVE the series. The premise of a murder mystery in a small town intrigued me. And boy it did not disappoint. The music is SO GOOD too. Atlas just knows how to make good RPGs ❤️
I'm playing through this game for the first time right now (my first Persona game too), and I feel like I'm experiencing it at the perfect time in my life. I graduated high school back in May, and I'm in my second semester of college, so it's not exactly the same, but I can really get behind the themes of self acceptance and discovery throughout adolescence. Certainly helps that it's just a fun game in general! I was originally considering getting P5R as my entry to the series, but I'm glad I waited for Golden to be ported to modern consoles.
I never really appreciated the music in a game when I was younger but that all changed with Persona 5. That is the best soundtrack in a game I have ever heard and the same is said for Persona 5 Strikers. Years later I find myself jamming to the songs on RUclips. Persona is one of my all time favorite franchises
I honestly feel like playing this game improves my diligence. This game really invigorated my drive to study Japanese and I’m enjoying reexperiencing the game in Japanese this time although I love both dubs.
I just finished the game on Vita, the characters and story are the most charming and endearing I’ve ever experienced ! Playing Dancing right now and the soundtrack slaps incredibly hard, again probably the best soundtrack I’ve heard
My intro to the series was P5 but P4G was the first one I beat. Having it on the vita was so vital to why I beat it before P5. Now P5R is on the switch and I’m close to beating it after so many years of attempting to beat it. The P4G soundtrack absolutely bangs and Heartbeat Heartbreak was my most listened to song last year.
@@paulmiller7838 wow I didn’t even know what this series was until P5 I saw a RUclipsr stream it then my cousin gameshare it with me and the rest is history lol
My wife bought me p4 golden and a ps vita, back then we were just dating. It easily became one of my favorite games. And one of the first signs that she was perfect because she knew me and what I liked
I'm actally super new to Persona, played 5r, strikers, and 4g now. Loved the video and can say that it's def not retro goggles making this game seem amazing. Was a pleasure getting into it
I played persona 5 and persona 5 Royal on my ps5. Yesterday my steamdeck came in and I couldn’t decide what game to get first. I saw persona 4 golden and just had to give it a try
21:31 this is literally the moment im dreading. I'm in January rn on p4g and the tone of the game shifting with the music change (snowflakes) is really hitting home that the journeys almost over, that all these characters I've grown to love are on set time until the protag leaves for spring. Finishing school and hearing the snowflake ost with the text reading "the day you leave for the city draws closer and closer, you should make memories with everyone" really breaks my heart. This is the kind of game i would kill to play again with no prior memories of it.
Great video as always Matty! I’ve never thought about it until now for some reason (maybe because this game is so narrative based) but it’d be nice to hear a “spoilers” version of your thoughts on this game as well as others. I’d love to hear what you think about certain characters towards the end of the game, the story, and well, the ending as a whole :)
How you’ve described Persona 4 is how I’ve been feeling while playing Persona 5 Royal. (I still haven’t finished it yet but I’m in the true ending content) It makes me excited to experience Persona 4 for the first time!
persona 4 may be my least favorite of the main 3, but it has my favorite cast of characters, Inaba feels like a second home, and it’s the game in the series that makes me the most happy. i loveeee this game
I started with 5 and while I do like a lot of the quality of life changes in that game and the generally flow of combat. The atmosphere and tone of 4 is just the best.
I first played this game during covid pandemic, the really fun, or ironic thing was that the pandemic came just when I was on my 2 second year of High School, just as the guys in the game, I felt really immersed in the story, like I was part of it, and it felt like a compensation for not being able to live that year in presence while we were on online classes, one of my favourite games of all time, never wanted to left Inaba, it just hit like no one before… It changed my life, and how to face up the truth, even if it hurts, this was my entry to the persona series. The persona games are just a type of game that comes to you when you need them, a change a lot your life, givin you different perspectives, I dunno, it’s not just a JRPG, It feels real
holy shit this game is incredible. i haven’t completed either of my playthroughs of p5 and p5 royal, but i just started up p4 on a whim and it connected with me so much more than p5. p5 is excellent, but the vibes here just appeal to me more. p4 golden will def go down as one of my favorite games
I like Trails of Cold Steel's Social Link system better from a narrative perspective, since the characters lives go on without you, so you don't have stuff like Yusuke's art exhibition being scheduled around whenever you get around to becoming buddies with him. I do wish that you got enough relationship points to do all the relationship events in one playthrough without needing to be in New Game Plus, though.
P3 for the Story, P4 for the Characters and P5 for the gameplay. I love them all for different reasons but they're all great. Even the older ones are great.
HahaHa I laughed out loud when I saw all those versions of Persona 4, like, I have it on PS4 and Steam but I had no idea there were that many versions, even when knowing about the P4 fighting game. I never got into Persona until 5 I admit. I was more of a Kingdom Hearts Final Fantasy kind of fan, and I guess you would think I'd get into this series back then as well but I didn't pick it up til Persona 5, and I do appreciate them doing this so I can go back and play Persona 4 and even 3! Great video man thank you!
There are also the Shin Megami Tensei games if you like persona. I'm also a newer fan and heard about them, they're pretty similar but a bit darker story wise
Many years ago I watched a Playstation Access video. I want into rpgs back then. So I didn't mind a spoiler for this game. It haunts me to this day. I've put off playing it because I know the big bad. Just got it on switch, so hopefully the journey isn't spoiled by the spoiler.
3-5 have been solid games through and through, but i believe that 3 will always hold the strongest significance to me. It was my first persona, but not only that, it did something the rest of the serious thus far really hasn't. Your party members have their own arcs throughout the story outside of their social links. This gives them a bit more flesh to the bone so to speak. In 4 or 5 your party members don't really grow much past their dungeons and the growth they gain is more or less them having to lean heavily on you to a point where its almost like without you they just cant do anything whereas your team in 3 have their own lives. Sometimes Yukari cant make it to Tartarus because shes got archery or Junpeis hangin with his friends at the arcade but their arcs that result in their evolved persona happen because THEY overcame their troubles. You didn't pull them through it kicking and screaming. You didnt force them. You were around sure but THEY accomplished large character growth. In a way i wish they'd go back to that sort of storytelling for them. As it stands Persona 3's cast is the only cast with canonical evolved Persona and thats kinda sad
3 is the best one. 2 has the best story, it’s just the gameplay… I hope they remake the persona 2 duology so bad. I loved persona 3 reload (p3 FES still has my heart)
Yeah I have to say while I do love P5R and the message of breaking free from you’re fate and pushing forward for a better future, I think P4G message of finding yourself and the truth not only in the murder mysteries but in yourself, truly an amazing game.
I love jrpgs that have great story , turn based combat that's fun an has a slice of life element. Persona 5 for example is one of my favorites of all time next to the trails of cold steel games . So I can wait to play 4 I've been dying to playing it now I finally have a cheaper way to play it . Wish it got. A physical release. Great video an review as always !!
I played this game for the first time because a friend lent me his PSVita telling me to try it. Christmas of 2014 I got a PSVita and Persona 4 Golden and I have logged over 300 hours on it. I recently got my Vita back from a friend that I lent it too and I'm ready to get back into my game. After I played it on my Switch and my PC of course 😌
I play it at my 17 years old and i love this game very much, was an beautiful experience, now in my 30s i can say Persona 4 is my favorite Persona and 1 of my favorite games all time.
Baton pass and being able to jump to personas that have skills to target weakness' easy are the two things I miss. But been enjoying p4g, working on my 2nd play through as I forgot to raise Marie social link.
Such an amazing game. The recent ports are also decently priced and the best ways to play this game regardless of platform(switch port is fantastic). You know the game is special when you genuinely feel sad when it’s over. Investigation squad are the goat
It sucks that there isn't a physical copy of P4G on current consoles, also sucks the ps2 copy is expensive too, because this is a game I'd love to have on my shelf
Oh man, I discovered this game late, I had a PS2 but I didn't play it until I got a copy of Golden on my PSVita, and BOI did it steal away hours of my life, I pulled regular all nighters, expected to wear out the poor handheld. I LOVE this game, the music is all such a vibe I could listen to on repeat, the characters, the story, it is easily in my top 3 games I have ever played, and when it cam to Steam that was an insta buy for me since my Vita is long dead. Persona 4 Golden is a MUST play, it's not a game, its an experience, thankyou for showcasing this gem of a title Matty, you made my day!
@@yeppumm1192 I wish i could, but the battery is pretty much finished on it, after being uncharged and untouched for a very long time. It had a great run though. Pity they where never as popular here in the west as they where in Japan, I thought they where a fantastic system.
I played Persona 5 royal during pandemic. And platinumed it. Just finish the game right now on my PSvita and i gotta say. This is way better than P5R. Now imma new game+ this to go for platinum. It's just not time for me to miss Inaba yet 😢
P4 is my favorite game ever, and it introduced me to the persona and smt games, of which I've played and beat at least 10 games and tried another 5 or 10 but didn't finish yet.
Persona 4 is the greatest Persona game! It is how i became a fan! It's better than P5 Royal. And when the day Atlus decides to REMAKE/RELOAD P4 I will be buying on 1st Day! It is still my favorite Game Soundtrack in all of the Persona series! It actually brought tears to me and I actually felt I was part of their cast and friends. TOP 3 BEST RPGS games ever! Replacing Chrono Trigger.
i’m really late i started persona 5 royal and wasn’t having any expectations at all besides i need a new story mode game to play and P5R was such a great game, im now playing P4G and later P3, big excited
You just blew my mind, I just started playing Persona 4 Golden for the first time ever this week and I thought I recognized Yosuke's VA! Can't believe it's Peter Parker himself haha
Remember that Persona 4 was also AS ruthless with the cards as Persona 3. You could Still grab Death, you could grab inversed cards that would make the enemies stronger, it was SUPER HARD to grab them. It was Persona 4 Golden that made the system better. XD
I love this game, I beat this game 11 times, 12 if u include the revisit I'm in the middle of for modern consoles and I still love this game. Everything about this game is amazing. The story, the characters, the soundtrack, the gameplay, I love it all, the game has it's flaws but the greatness completely overshadows most of the game's flaws. I love this game so much. Especially since it's on modern consoles now, I highly recommend people playing this game.
I played this game on Vita when I had a surgery and I had to stay home for a month so I actually don’t play JRPGs but I don’t know why I watched a few videos for this game and went ahead and bought it and didn’t think too much about it and started playing it and I was so into the story of the game and the characters and their conversation because I’ve never played anything like it and I actually played the game 3 times , it was 10 years ago I was in middle school I’m so happy I played it, it was a time when I had to stay home a lot and I really felt like the characters were my real friends and felt sad when I got the real ending with the characters start running to the train crying telling you not to forget them
I love three houses but I do agree. Most of the support backgrounds are still images, when a character has an item they arent holding it (a picture of x item is shown instead), and when theres a dynamic scene like a fight the screen turns black. The characters were written well for me but fell short with execution.
I’m excited to jump in and play this for the first time coming from Persona 5 Royal so far the transition seems seamless even though I do miss features from 5 like the gun lol
Well if it makes you feel any better in p3p there are three phys elements (strike, slice and pierce) and party members use different phys elements (and of course because of that there are different phys skills)
P4's True End Route is just hidden behind layers upon layers of choices, it's amazing. I was bummed out that P5 didn't do something similar, but after growing up and replaying P4G, it makes a lot of sense for the True End to be that way, and it wouldn't be fitting for P5 to do something similar. I love these games so much :)
Playing it for the first time thanks to Game Pass. As a normie who has only played P5 and P5R there's some QOL features I definitely miss, but I like how cozy and quaint it is in comparison. P5's story is pretty cut and dry from the get go but P4 sets up an interesting mystery that maintains this sinister undertone to what is otherwise a really chill, laid back experience. Really love this cast of characters. Definitely see why some people find the music repetitive though, those MIDI trumpets at the beginning of "Like a Dream Come True" will be seared into my mind for the rest of time. But overall it's a fantastic soundtrack.
I’m so glad to see P4 is becoming more accessible to new audiences. Easily one of the best, if, THE BEST JRPG OF ALL TIME! Remember starting it up on my psvita during its original P4G release. Took me a while to get into it, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down. The fact director Katsura Hashino managed to outdo it IMO with Persona 5 is a uncompromising feat. And of course, Shoji Meguro. The guy cannot do a bad soundtrack. I still think if Nier Automata wasn’t up against P5 for best music at the game awards, Meguro would’ve won it easily.
On persona 5 Royal when you go to fuse persona you wait for an alert then you strengthen your persona with the freshly fused persona to get a stat boost instead of a level gain and you can easily put all your persona on 99 on all stats to make them broken
Very throughout approach to reviews, I like it. As for me I bounced of P4, I played it after going through like 70% of Royal so I was burned out on this gameplay loop, will try again once this burn out fades. Though I have been unemployed past 3 months and I started SO MANY games from my bucket list, like Trails, and that have similar laid back atmosphere. I'm alternating story-heavy and gameplay-heavy games on a daily now
Honestly, out of all of the persona series, this has to be my favorite because I played it fall through. Even though I had persona three, the twist and turns this had through before until the end.
Playing this game in High School was such a highlight. These characters felt like genuine friends, and the game felt like an entire anime worth of content. It was a gaming experience that will never be replicated.

Yeeeeep. I think it's one of the craziest things ever, but only solidified to me how strongly I felt about the game.
I just finished this game yesterday.
10 out of fucking 10.
The story. The cast. The MUSIC. The gameplay. Everything about this game to me was PERFECT!
You convinced me to buy this for the switch and I'm loving it!
I’m hyped to play this but I don’t think I have time this year with everything coming out😂
Would love to see you cover Persona 1 and 2 someday. Truly retro but also pretty forgotten by modern persona fans.
Persona 1 made me fall in love with this series!!!!! Sure, none of the others were out yet but still, what an awesome game.
@@paulmiller7838 wow I didn’t even know what this series was until P5 I saw a RUclipsr stream it then my cousin gameshare it with me and the rest is history lol
@@coolchannelize15 You can't really go wrong starting anywhere in this series. They are all amazing games. ^_^
@@paulmiller7838 True they’re good games I already played P5 and P4G and one of the persona Q games on 3ds now playing P3P!
I played this game when I was like 12 and I cried at the ending. Never replaying it again though.
P4G is my favorite game, the plot, the characters, the soundtrack, is truly a masterpiece, even the True ending is a 20/10
21:31 this is literally the moment im dreading.
This my first time playing p4g and p3p so I'm looking forward to them. Definitely enjoying it so far
I first played this game during covid pandemic, the really fun, or ironic thing was that the pandemic came just when I was on my 2 second year of High School, just as the guys in the game, I felt really immersed in the story, like I was part of it, and it felt like a compensation for not being able to live that year in presence while we were on online classes, one of my favourite games of all time, never wanted to left Inaba, it just hit like no one before…
It changed my life, and how to face up the truth, even if it hurts, this was my entry to the persona series.
Awesome video 👏🏽 Really hope to find the time to play P4G some day. I’ve only completed P5, so still want to play P5R not to mention P3R as well 😅
I love that you go through the manuals..always do that myself/collect them
P4’s of my all-time favorites. Hard to find a stronger cast in a JRPG. Thanks for covering this!
This channel is everything I need
Love your content bro! been following for years! keep rockin!
P3 for the Story, P4 for the Characters and P5 for the gameplay. I love them all for different reasons but they're all great. Even the older ones are great.
And P2 for both story and characters
Started this game again, even the dialogue and response choices feel great to go through. A great game to say the least.
@Sindrella. thats the other weird thing. Atlus says 3 had the first female protag but that's not true. You had Maya in Eternal Punishment
@@MrDark086 lol Atlus try not to forget your own protagonists challenge. Wait till someone tells them about SMT: If…
P4G, day one purchase mang no question! 🎮🔥🇨🇦
Yeah I have to say while I do love P5R and the message of breaking free from you’re fate and pushing forward for a better future, I think P4G message of finding yourself and the truth not only in the murder mysteries but in yourself, truly an amazing game.
Just picked up Persona 4 on Switch. On sale for 11.99. Never played a Persona game before, but I’m looking forward to it
My favourite game of all time, so glad it's more accessible now.
Just finished it last night… amazing masterpiece of a JRPG.
You gotta revive your Vita 😭
@@yeppumm1192 I wish i could, but the battery is pretty much finished on it, after being uncharged and untouched for a very long time. It had a great run though. Pity they where never as popular here in the west as they where in Japan, I thought they where a fantastic system.
This game will always be special to me. I bought it 3 years ago, it was my first jrpg. I had never played a jrpg before that.
This game changed my life! Love this game
The second I saw your shirt I just started singing "Every day's great at your junes!"
I played this game on Vita when I had a surgery and I had to stay home for a month so I actually don’t play JRPGs but I don’t know why I watched a few videos for this game and went ahead and bought it and didn’t think too much about it and started playing it and I was so into the story of the game and the characters and their conversation because I’ve never played anything like it and I actually played the game 3 times , it was 10 years ago I was in middle school I’m so happy I played it, it was a time when I had to stay home a lot and I really felt like the characters were my real friends and felt sad when I got the real ending with the characters start running to the train crying telling you not to forget them
Persona 4 Golden is my favorite Persona game, and Persona 5 Royal is the best RPG I have played. I hope that makes sense.
LRG is doing/did a run for Persona 4 Golden. Can't wait to get my copy.
He probably threw namatame in the TV
@@helpihavebats6392 Yea, but unfortunately 3 sucks
No one talking about Persona 3 Portable 😢
cause it's shit
Top 5 best games of all time, glad to see you playing it
I miss old game manual and that manual is so aesthetically pleasing
On persona 5 Royal when you go to fuse persona you wait for an alert then you strengthen your persona with the freshly fused persona to get a stat boost instead of a level gain and you can easily put all your persona on 99 on all stats to make them broken
Very throughout approach to reviews, I like it. As for me I bounced of P4, I played it after going through like 70% of Royal so I was burned out on this gameplay loop, will try again once this burn out fades. Though I have been unemployed past 3 months and I started SO MANY games from my bucket list, like Trails, and that have similar laid back atmosphere. I'm alternating story-heavy and gameplay-heavy games on a daily now
I was living in Japan when this game released. I remember picking up a copy after work and diving into it all weekend.
I just ordered a vita from Japan and this looks to be one of my early games I'm snagging! Excited.
What color ?
Honestly, out of all of the persona series, this has to be my favorite because I played it fall through. Even though I had persona three, the twist and turns this had through before until the end.
