The other...sorta nice?...thing about Aogami, is how he'll let you go, when you're talking to him in the Haunts (for you Persona 5 types, think Safe Rooms). Unlike in, say, SMT 3, where your character is human for, what, all of about ten minutes?, and essentially never gets that back, here, you still get to be "you" for a few quiet moments here and there. It definitely changes the tone, in both a small and a significant way.
Agreed! Also I played SMTV and then went into Vengeance without knowing anything about what was new. Then a character handed me a Menorah and PTSD ensued
Held off this long to buy it so I didn't have to play it on the Shitch. Especially after playing something like P4G in 4K and 60+ FPS on the X, I can't go back
for real, no upgrade path either so you have to double dip on mostly the same game. altus does this so much i’m gonna have to wait for the full version of persona 6 before i pick it up
Well, it's not again, it's a new route, and qol changes. Unless you only have a broke ass switch, then don't buy it. The performance on that isn't worth full price.
Long time SMT fan. I bought OG Persona 3 when it came out at launch and immediately bought SMTIII Nocturne a little bit afterwards. I've been on the SMT and Persona bandwagon for awhile as Atlus games were synonymous with niche but great games, mostly RPGs. One of my first games ever was Snow Brothers on the OG Gameboy. I played the crap out of that game when I was 5. Man it's crazy to see how far this series has come. Hell I can't believe Persona is as big as it now. My main complaint is Atlus and their DLC. I kinda miss the pre Sega era. I'm so pumped for this game I'm purchasing a PS5 just to play it.
You're going to need a ridiculous amount of time to fully soak up P5R. New Game+ is just about required to unlock everything. And you'll love every minute of it. For SMTVV, depending on your choices, there are potentially four unique experiences, not just two: Creation/Law, Creation/Chaos, Vengeance/Law, and Vengeance/Chaos. So, yeah, lots and LOTS to see and do in SMTV: Vengeance, as well, and a Compendium that makes P5R's look pint-sized by comparison.
I lucked out and was able to buy smt5 for like 30 bucks near launch, and heard they were making this early last year, so i was able to sell my copy for $25, so i barely lost any money on it. I'm still gonna wait for a sale. I love the game, was very tempted to buy at full price, but the backlog is just so full, i cant imagine paying full price for a game i already beat just to continue ignoring my many other games.
Which Canon would you suggest for a newbie to the game? I'm more interested in the Canon of Vengeance from what I've seen, but would I miss out by not playing the original.
While you’d probably enjoy vengeance more after experiencing creation as it has some details that won’t be elaborated on in vengeance, considering that each one is easily 80 hours, and you don’t have time to do both, vengeance is probably recommended. The story is just better executed. Creation isn’t bad, but it falls short in a lot of areas where it could have been great
While the characters and second half of the story kinda sucked in Canon of Creation, it provides you the general idea what MegaTen game (minus Hashino's Persona 3, 4 and 5) really is; to fight, strive and go with the reasoning/alignment you deem best fit for the world you want to create. So, if possible I suggest you to start with Canon of Creation first since any one of the four ending routes will introduce you to the mandala system, which is the never ending cycle of the world. The very core idea of CoC is that the world is in constant of loop cycle where it needs someone to reach a certain point and breaks the loop--> which is the Canon of Vengeance story/worldline. You could enjoy Vengeance route more if you know or aware of the context of CoC worldline. Vengeance storyline diverged from CoC pretty much after the first part (first 15-20 hours) of the game. But if you don't have time to play both, Canon of Vengeance is probably the recommended one since you get to experience the new character Yoko Hiromine and use any of the human ally characters as temporary guest characters in certain points of the game. Then again, you will be losing some minor context or details when you get to the alignment stuff that happen throughout the game.
Yes they are stand alone stories outside of SMT 1+2 as well as SMT IV+IV Apocalypse but they all follow a similar premise Tokyo gets destroyed, Demons take over and multiple factions vie for control to reshape the new world
That’s wild, I thought I was the only one, I just got a puppy right when smt5 came out and she chewed on the corner of the box right next to me, luckily she only got a few puncture holes, no massive tear like that😂

You’re in for something a lot different than any other JRPG! Don’t forget starting off: don’t try to fight all the demons. Make sure you talk to them and recruit as many as you can. Number one mistake I see new players make is trying to fight too much at the start
I remember picking up SMT5 when it released and poured 80+ hrs into it before finishing it .Absolutely loved my experience and i won't mind double dipping with more on the PS5 🔥
I really liked the vanilla game but vengeance blows it out of the water. I bought on ps5 tho, the extra items and demon compendium not worth getting on switch again
Kinda random, but I think I'm going to buy a physical copy for Xbox just because I think it'll be rare in the future. I don't have an Xbox, but JRPGs that get a small print run + physical copy + on the least popular console usually equals very rare in the future

The game being on PC definitely makes it so much better for me now. I don’t mind losing my 100% from the original on switch but playing on hard mode and having the game run well on my PC is bliss.
I haven’t watched even a second of your video because I’m at work but I wanted comment and say, yes, SMT V VENGEANCE is an incredible game. It has changed substantially enough to where you can easily justify buying it even if you’ve played the original. One of the best games in the series by far.
I mean, it's okay so far. I feel like I'm just wandering around fighting random enemies for no particular reason with a bunch of characters I have no reason to care about. Wikipedia says the reception was "generally positive" back when it first released, which sounds about right to me. There's a magic to the JRPGs of yesteryear that we're struggling to get back.
It is a bit of a slow burn. The ticklish part about the opening area leading up to Tokyo Tower, is that it's got to be open world enough to give you a sense of isolation, and get you into the basic mindset of looking absolutely everywhere, while at the same time feeding you all the important stuff you'll need to survive your first boss fight, and making sure you miss none of the same. If in doubt, head over to a Haunt and chat with your team. Some of the stuff you'll get from them, can be thought provoking, funny, or just flat out endearing. Early on, Cait Sith and Neko Shogun are standouts here.
SMT is popular because of the gameplay loop and actually challenging (until lategame skills break the game open) and not everybody likes playing Dating Sims @Ristofec
I’m a 36 year old who loved JRPGs in my youth and recently have the itch again after FF7 rebirth. There are so many series I know nothing about such as this one and the persona series. Are they made by the same team? I just started persona 5 Royal and am considering this game next
Hey hope you're enjoying P5R! Just wanted to say that like Square Enix, Atlus have multiple divisions working on different titles, so I wanted to help break it down for you since it can be a little confusing. There are 3 primary development studios at Atlus. SMT Vengeance was made by Team Maniax, who handle Mainline Shin Megami Tensei and a smaller series known as Etrian Odyssey, and the current Persona team is P-Studio (SMT came first, and Persona is a spin off of SMT); P-Studio is currently comprised of newer developers who previously worked on the major rereleases, P4 Golden and P5 Royal, worked on P3 Reload, and they are currently developing their first full Persona game, Persona 6. The old guard have branched off of P-Studio to make a 3rd primary development team, which was established in 2016 to make a brand new IP for Atlus known as Metaphor ReFantazio; these were the people that developed SMT Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga, Persona 3 through 5, and Catherine, which are some of Atlus's biggest and most successful titles.
Now that you've fallen in love with the smt side, make sure to check out smt3, if I'm brutally honest five managed to top three, but three is still amazing, and in fact there are several Easter eggs that reference three. Three has been my all time favorite video game- until now, five was already better, but vengeance just takes the cake and finally locks five over three... but I'll always have the nostalgia for three...
So my favorite rpg franchises - SMT/Persona, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Age. All that to say, 2024 is my dream come true. I cannot believe major releases in every franchise are coming out this year. I’m so spoiled I love it

Although i hate to possibly miss out on the steelbook, I'll get it sometime down the road. If it's like the original, it'll probably be half price by spring.
As much as i would like the bonuses for having the original, i just cant pass up the performance and graphical boost ya get from going PC (Plus with a steam deck it does also give a on the go option that would still look better than the switch).
This is almost in similarity. What happened with Monster Hunter rise when it got released out of the prison? That is Nintendo switch and it got sent out to Xbox, PC and Playstation. It's night and day difference. Much improvement performance visually thankfully for Game Pass. I was able to play it at 4K on my monitor and everything but when they came to steam and it had a sale on it, I actually bought it from my steam deck OLED and I'm playing it at 90 HZ on that beautiful OLED screen with HDR on and it's just fantastic. And now with this game even though I was tempted to get it from my Xbox series X I had it to get it for my steam deck OLED and it's another night and day improvement over the original Nintendo switch. I could never even go back to that version cuz I can't go back to 30 frames or those low resolution textures. Everything flows everything is better and plus all the spice of Life quality of life improvements they did.
I’m not familiar with this franchise, but I immediately loved this game. Definitely reminded me of the old school turn based mixed with a Bethesda game. Absolutely love it so far. 8.5/10.
Does no one understand how waiting for a sale instead of showing you want more of this kind of game in the future by buying it at release affects actually getting this kind of game in the future?
I love my switch, but certain games are being held back by it imo. Xenoblade series is probably my favourite series and what monolith have managed to do on the switch is incredible, buuuuut I can't help wondering what the xeno games would be like if not constrained by weak tech. Was the same with SMTV
Starting to see why Persona is the spin off. SMTV vibes so much more with me than Persona. Love the mix of open world and turn based and even just the demons feeling like they have personality. So insane to me SMT is on Xbox now and it runs so well.
This game is so good! Admittedly, I enjoy Persona more, but that's mainly due to the many characters & social side. But I much prefer SMT's more serious tone & deeper mechanics. So happy this game came to PC so I can play at a better frame rate.
I remember when SMT V was announced on the Nintendo Direct and I lost my shit. I saw the trailer and I got so excited and wanted to share my excitement on the internet, only to find out that the consensus of the internet was that this was the worst Nintendo direct by far. It really broke my heart
Got this for switch but i rarely ever get myself to play on the system, might grab it for ps5 and finally playthrough it when im in the mood for another jrog tho ^^
Big deal for me not playing at blurry 20fps with frame drops. Booted this up on my switch on release and said nope. Now playing on pc. Even runs like butter on steam deck.
@@brandonmccann15 speeding around the desert and hellish environments is SO SATISFYING. It makes me feel like a badass. I picked the path of Vengeance and I’m liking it so far. I haven’t played in while, life got busy.
If you have unlimited time - original and then vengeance cause there is some little details that you wouldn't get it and secret superboss in second walkthrough. If not, only vengeance
? For people who have played original in gunna prolly buy it cuz higher frame rate since I did play it on switch, is the original story just the original story or did they only change story only in vengeance? I never beat original cuz frame rate drove me crazy but got to the end basically wasn’t sure if it was worth replaying all that or just vengeance stuff
No you will miss out on alot as both stories are different. You will see similar things but they made the canon a vengeance different enough from the original to make a it a whole game
So I’ve never played a mainline SMT game before, but I have played Persona 3-5 multiple times. Would this be something I would enjoy? Is it ideal to play the original story before the new one? What exactly can an outsider expect?
Smt has no social links and it's narratively focused on the protagonist in 5, there are no personas, the demons are controllable as separate party members in battle.
This was my first persona game, and I did really enjoy it! I didn't know that my first choice was two games, so im going to go back and not take her hand. I did feel like I was playing a blue hair transsexual most of the time, and fusion options from lv78-90 were less exciting. Overall, I'm now a persona fan. Demon Haunt was super annoying, in my opinion. I stopped going.
Shouldn't even be a question... So far the best SMT game I've ever bought. Completely overshadows trash like P3R even though it's also a new game that just came out a while ago.
If you already played hard before then hard mode shouldn’t be much of an issue. The charm overall of the game is the trials and errors you make and being able to defeat a boss through the efforts of info you got and how to deal with them. That’s not me saying one shouldn’t play on normal or safety, but I think hard mode brings a great overall experience for new and older players.
@Plotpurotto thanks! I did in fact decided on hard mode. It's going pretty well so far, I haven't had a difficult time through the bosses at all. I'm actually really happy I don't have to fight Lahmu twice because he was the most annoying boss to fight in the original, but in Vengeance I took him down in 1 try. Besides the overworld bosses, nothing really has been giving me a hard time to do.

Sweet dreams are made of these, everybody's looking for something.
Need something to hold me over until Metaphor launches. Looks like I found it!!
Would love to see you cover some of the lesser know atlas games from the 360 era such as the cursed crusade and others like it
Is this complete on disc with the Xbox version? Series X version specifically.
Yes 👍 I confirmed it myself. I put the console in offline mode and the disc installed the Series X version.
@@Nemisish Great to hear! I not just pick up this version then. Thanks!
Don’t let a RUclipsr tell you if it’s worth it go get a copy and find out for yourself! Get the experience for you!! 💪🕹️
“Is Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance REALLY That Good?!”
Do bears shit in the woods? Hell yea its THAT good!
If you didn’t already have smt5, then Vengeance will be a fine title. If you ALREADY have 5, then I feel like Vengeance is waiting for a sale.
I'm really hoping I can get into it. It'll be my first SMT Game.
I love my switch, but certain games are being held back by it imo. Xenoblade series is probably my favourite series and what monolith have managed to do on the switch is incredible, buuuuut I can't help wondering what the xeno games would be like if not constrained by weak tech. Was the same with SMTV
I liked the game but mid way it felt like a slog. One day I’ll finish it off
YES! Bought it full price, cant stop playing.
Yes, it is
Now i’m playing it on my series X and it’s PERFECT!!!
It plays amazing on the steam deck, huge difference of the Nintendo Switch version.
You will appreciate that bite in the future.
I have the original that I didn’t get around to playing.
I want my first play through to be the best, so which version is good for the first time?
So I just picked this up for $40. Which path should I play first?
How u liking the game
@@brandonmccann15 speeding around the desert and hellish environments is SO SATISFYING. It makes me feel like a badass. I picked the path of Vengeance and I’m liking it so far. I haven’t played in while, life got busy.
@@LunaticTrumpet thank u
WTH I swear remembering Matty saying he thought smt4 apocalypse was mid and not great before am I tripping or did he change his mind or something? 😭
So never played the og version of this, should I play Cannon of Vengence or the original Cannon one
If you have unlimited time - original and then vengeance cause there is some little details that you wouldn't get it and secret superboss in second walkthrough. If not, only vengeance
Never played it, might cop it on steam deck oled when it’s on sale
That dog does not like Atlus lol
I dunno if it’s bang for buck if they sold the game twice at full price… first time a beta and second time it just included the DLC 🤷♂️
Can you force DX11 for this game?
So we dont have to play creation if we have never played? we can go into vengeance and get both stories?
No you will miss out on alot as both stories are different. You will see similar things but they made the canon a vengeance different enough from the original to make a it a whole game
Yes even if you already own it. A lot more extra content
Yes, Im loving this game so far.
So I’ve never played a mainline SMT game before, but I have played Persona 3-5 multiple times. Would
this be something I would enjoy? Is it ideal to play the original story before the new one? What exactly can an outsider expect?
Smt has no social links and it's narratively focused on the protagonist in 5, there are no personas, the demons are controllable as separate party members in battle.
Dont expect a Dating Sim. Mainline SMT isnt for that. More engaging gameplay loop with diffculty to compensate.
Spent 2 days and a whole lots of GB's downloading this game, nobody told me I would be playing as a sissy femboy. Trash

I‘m angry that the Playstation version does not feature full JP support. Thanks to Sony I have to import a used copy instead of buying new…
never played a smt ot persona game before. should I start with the base or vengeance?
Vengeance is the better version, you can play the og storyline too with a starting choice
never played this before, but i am very intrested in giving it s try the review is helpfull chears :)
Cant find any review of this game that isnt sponsored
How is Cait Sith in SMT? That's not copyrighted by Square Enix?
LOL myths/fables/tales invented by a culture are public domain.
SMT 5 V is better than SMT 5 because you can play the original storyline or the new one. Especially if you didnt already buy 5
Was wondering why it still looked choppy and realized he’s still on the Switch
No excuse, persona 5 royal runs flawlessly on switch
@@lustbubo4638P5R is a lock 30fps but it’s choppy in terms of lower resolution and textures.
@@TheSubZero187 I literally just beat p5 royal playing at 60fps on Yuzu. Edit: it's 2024, why would I use the actual console?
@@lustbubo4638 😂😂 so you just admitted that you had to emulate it to actually run it better. Not on the actual console.
Shouldn't even be a question... So far the best SMT game I've ever bought. Completely overshadows trash like P3R even though it's also a new game that just came out a while ago.
damn i was hoping it was a hack n slash like god of war and not a yugioh take turns to attack kind of game
...thats the Raidou games.
I just bought Vengeance, but im wondering if i should play on Hard Mode like i did with the original game or play safe on Normal?
