An old friend in England introduced me to TS a few years ago and I've been an avid fan of the band ever since. Individually they are all brilliant solo musicians but their joint contributions to the band are unselfish and give the whole performance a cohesive quality... I'm nearly 80 and an old jazzer (in the days of the Jazz Revival - the late fifties /early sixties ) when I was a drummer - still got bits of the kit lying around! Great audio and filming - a pure pleasure! - Thanks
Sunshine, I've a few years on you at 85. You're right about this bunch. I began listening to Dixieland (thanks to Mother) when I was 3 or 4, so I am a longtime lover of Dixieland. Also Big Band, Western Swing, and Classical. We lived in western Oklahoma as far out as you can and not be in New Mexico, but then moved to a "big" town of 5,000 people. Mother loved to dance and I'm sure she introduced me to Dixieland by accident, dancing with me in our tiny living room. In High School I drummed with a professional Western Swing (Bob Wills style) Band, playing 3 dances a week and a daily radio show at noon. I had to drop out to catch up on credits to graduate from high school. These days I play fiddle. Incidentally, Shaye plays half a dozen instruments well and I know that Erika Lewis plays 2 or 3.
BRAVO BRAVO, great performance ! ... my favourites: Jelly Roll Morton's "Sidewalk Blues" on 26:08 and Robin's "The Mighty Anchor" on 30:35 ... Thank you very much for upload.
Thanks for sharing here. The audio is excellent. Even listening with my cellphone sounds it so clear. I missed the livestream so it is great I can listen to it now. 👂 🙂 👍

All jazz has its roots in New Orleans. And all jazz swings. But New Orleans jazz struts. And this band STRUTS!! An overlooked aspect of early New Orleans jazz is that it was played by marching bands in the street and the band marched while playing so the way the bands marched was part of the performance. And the best bands had the best style of marching. I don't really know how to describe how "strutting" comes out in the music. I think it may have something to do with most marches being in 2/4 because we have 2 legs and so the feel was left-right-left like in military style. The music may be written in 4/4 but the overall feel is 2/4. I'm not a musiccoogist and I might be totally wrong in my analysis but all I know is this band and all true New Orleans style music has that underlying feel IMHO. if you listen to this and count one two, one two you'll see what I mean. And it's also my theory that the term swing (besides its rhythmic definition) probably refers to the way a swing moves back and forth in 2 beats.
Congrats to Tuba Skinny, they are going to play at the famous Newport Jazz festival July 31,2020. Long Overdue. World Famous, and it took Newport Festival this long to recognize their importance in preserving the original traditional New Orleans jazz music, and create their own as well? We will never see the likes of Tuba Skinny again...they just just kill it with right sound and style. imagine if the world put down their guns and picked up a musical instrument instead....you would have a giant Tuba Skinny.....

Thanks for the upload. Excellent quality video and audio! One minor disappointment, when I saw a piano I was hoping we were going to be treated to a performance by Shaye.
This group is as great as the ones I heard from N.O. 82 years ago. They are certainly more disciplined and in terms of skilled, well, many play several instruments. On that Score Shaye outdoes them all. I just wish Erika was with them on this gig.
Erika lives not more in New Orleans I mean since 2017. But she playing with the band on festivals and touring with the band. So she can't playing regularly with the band.
it is. of course erika is great but the great thing about tuba skinny is that they are great and sometimes erika joins them which is something to be happy about.

Still the best. Enjoyed them as always even with material we do not normally see on RUclips!

toujours aussi performant
A great performance and a great recording! The street recordings and dba recordings usually have the vocal level so low it's hard to hear the singer.
Where is their singer? I think her name is Erica.
a evoluçao da especie😄😄😄😄
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
LOVE this group!!! Been ages since I've been able to see them live. Where do they perform now? And is there a way to get CD's
Does anyone know if Tuba Skinny are touring Europe this summer, especially anywhere in France/
OMG I love this band, every member - I can't sit down when listening to them
But, I must say that the horn & stick really hit a nerve.
