Ethan Katz it is still faux chest windows. Which is why im staying on the fence for this awhile more. The chest windows are actually the wheel axles in truck mode. I really do hate primes with faux chest windows.
Kibble doesn't really piss me off when its on a transformer. For me the kibble on a transformer robot actually adds a "realism" factor. Dating myself here ... when the original cartoon came out I always thought it was a cop out that his trailer would randomly disappear behind him or the artists would change their proportions for aesthetic reasons. Guess I'm a traditionalist. Another spectacular review.
It's a shame they didn't find a way to make the arms (unpainted) grey sides face up in trailer mode - that would have improved the look of the trailer quite a bit. I did hear that the trailer has an intentional "Hidden" Base mode (same with all the leaders) much as the POTP Deluxes have a (not especially) hidden limb mode or the Voyagers a Torso mode. If they'd been super clever perhaps they'd been able to get a weapon or chest piece mode out of the Legends too. I expect that this will get a partial remould at some point with the Orion Pax remoulded into an Optimus Cab - perhaps event he trailer heavily modded into an Ultra Magnus body too. I expect Takara will make a Black one (as they tend to do) and that should look really nice as the problems with the red and grey not sitting in the proper places will not be present if the majority of the body is a single colour like Black. It seems odd that they'd make an Evil Rodimus as their initial repaint when a Black Optimus has way more iconic value and visual appeal. I'd be interested to get one of these and have a good fiddle with it and see if there is any way to make a unified Fan mode base mode that uses all 3 (main) recent Optimus toys. I'm not huge on Orion Pax (especially as he's done in the Cartoon) so I'm going to like this toy a whole lot more after a remould - I just hope Hasbro has its common sense hat on and is planning to do that - as if they don't someone else is going to do it for them - which I don't actually mind at all as it means I get an Orion Figure I can use and Optimus gets his body all filled in and perhaps a G1 or Ginrai style cab to complement the rest of it. Customisers may be want to paint the inner leg panels blue too for the combined mode to look a bit better - I'd have to consider that a bit before doing it myself in case it mucks up the look of the (hidden) "Base mode" that it's supposed to have. Overall I kinda like it.
90 Lancaster Hasbro doesn't have a common sense hat. (Note their disturbing lack of Black Convoy/Nemesis Prime repaints; even back when they did them, they were exclusives of some kind...usually convention exclusives) You can almost bank on a Black Convoy version from Takara. Beyond that...I don't see much else done unless Hasbro DOES grow a brain and make a Shattered Glass repaint of this.
Takara showed some items on their website and they got a lot of inquiries about why they were showing Hasbro versions as their range - and when they would show their own - they then said - that they were theirs and that the toys they were going to release were the same as Hasbro it seems like the vat majority of the line is going to be USA editions then. At the very least I wanted the Voyagers to not have the terrible quality stickers and have paint instead. I don't suppose they will change their mind on the 1st wave - but perhaps on a later one if they notice they are loosing sales by not offering an alternative deco or features like you see on the Targetmasters or six shot.
I always refer to THIS version as my PMOP (Powermaster Orion Pax), as the PMOP we got in TR was lacking greatly, and THIS Evo Prime suit (with some tweaking, such as bulkier legs) seemed to be a much closer representation of a Powermaster Optimus Prime, except it was Orion Pax... 😉
I just bought a loose figure of this Prime via Ebay, for a pretty good price. The issue with my figure is that it's missing the left shoulder fold up portion of the smoke stack. I'm looking to get that part 3D printed somewhere since I can't seem to find any replacements for it online. This a beautiful version of Prime!

It’s weird to see this be rereleased in Target here in the U.S., and when I got it, I had to return it. Loose joints, broken Orion Pax, a gun that doesn’t stay together, the button to remove Orion doesn’t work. I don’t know if it’s the figure I bought, but my copy of the figure was awful!!

@@chefatron the good news was I showed Target Management how bad the QC issues were, and not only did they allow me to return and get refunded for it, but they let me trade it for something else, as long as it’s transformers related, at no extra charge.
Given that the trailer forms what is basically a suit of armour, I can forgive it for being a shell former, especially since it is for the most part concealed when fully transformed into either mode. At least it’s not as bad as it was for many beast wars figures.
I was thinking he looks a bit to similar to my mp10 optimus just a bit more plasticky but the optronix robot kind sells for it me. does the matrix become a mini robot like the titan master robots
gstrikr7 search for photos of CW Megatron with MP10 on Google & you should be able to judge it It looks as though Megatron is about half a cm taller but that's about how it should be :)
Does the MP10 axe fit snug on his fist? When the comparison previews fron Weibo came out way back, I already had ideas of just getting loose MP10 axes from shops for this guy to use. Painting the fists blue is already a given. Also painting the forearm arrows into yellow.

just picked this up after work. I noticed that your optimus has a liege maximo power card. mine has a Solus power card. the Solus card reads: forges an invincible energon axe. I'm going to guess that each toy will come with a card telling you what ability a different prime will grant them?
Chef there is a transformation error on the arms of Orion Pax in cab mode. The arms are supposed to be pulled down and tab into the slot on the legs in front of the trailer.
It was just discovered as an error not on the packaging or the instructions. Let me know if this hinders movement of the trailer. We don't have the leaders in the states yet.

I'm planning on replacing my Year of the Horse edition MP 10 with this figure. I can't justify buying another MP 10. When I first saw pics of this, I thought this would be a good alternative. This review solidified my decision. Salamat.

Really a lot of hit and miss. Orion and Optimus look well-built in robot mode, but both really suffer from bad kibble placements and hollow limbs syndrome. As a set, they/he still look good though.
The Optimus and Orion modes look awesome. The cab truck mode looks like trash. Awful. The front is so good and then the back looks like a figure from 98. Swing and a miss.
Considering the limited budget and the requirements for the Price Point, the appearance of Orion Pax(slim and sleek, compared to Optimus' blocky proportions), and it needs to be relatively easy to transform, many, many compromises had to be made. I'm sure third-party companies will come up with fix-kits for the arms in both modes and the other suspect parts.

Tempted to agree. Orion Pax is a nice G1 iteration, and the only one Hasbro's done...but the previous two (the IDW one that got repainted into Lioconvoy, SG Nova Prime, and who knows what else, and the TLK one that's a repaint of TR Kup) are good enough for an Orion Pax.
Wow, another trailer that's literally another shell full of gaping holes. Hasbro, you can do better than this. No way am I spending money on something like this where it's just a bunch of missing panels. I was excited when I saw how well they did with Rodimus, but this is just a mess. They didn't try to hide anything, you could almost drive cars through all the spaces and gaps, this is just as bad as the Powermaster Prime that just came out. Though, I'll give them one point for making the trailer detachable, I suppose that's something...
Cards are random and are different with each toy. No one prime goes with no one figure. So far I've seen three different cards with slash. Cool toy though.

This is bugging me... There's clearly a groove inside the chest for the prime master's head to slip into on the BOTTOM. You're probably having clearance issues because it's upside down.
I find it funny that folks tend to make the obvious comparison to MP10. Some similarities abound for sure (like those goofy proportions), but...the gray coloring and the the chest ain't among them. To me, those things are more reminiscent of good ol' MP01. Large, square, anime accurate windows, a short abdominal section (in this case, complete with the signature fake truck grille that's been a hallmark since at least Classics Voyager Optimus Prime)? Check. Though that thin gray line just under the chest instead of the proper thick stripe totally reeks of that craptastic Classics Deluxe Optimus. Now that I think about it, the short & kinda fat thighs also seem like MP01 instead of MP10. Whatever...a better weapon (instead of reusing the CW/MP09 combining style, which looks dumb here, as we NEVER SAW Orion with a weapon) would've made it almost perfect.
Way better than Rodimus Prime, but i will still pass on it. For my CHUG i have the old classic Prime and the Legends Ginrai mold and that is enough for me. Great review, this is definately a great Prime for people that have to fill a Prime gap in their CHUG collection. It does suffer from the same lazy engineering, the truckmode has a ton of kibble.
I thought titans return prime with the perfect effect upgrade (giving him a transformable ginrai cab) was a very good version of prime for that price. I have the ultra magnus version of that mold (with the white prime perfect effect upgrade) because personally, i think the mold fits ultra magnus better.
But I will say that the robot mode for both Optimus Prime and Alpha Trion look amazing. The only disappointment is the vehicle mode. Sorry if I came off as negative. Great review and keep up the amazing work.

Innocent_Bystander the Optimus that this is based off of is blocky and has grey on him. That’s the way they wanted him to be. You can’t complain about it when you don’t understand what they were going for. This is supposed to be a cool combiner that looks like g1 Optimus who is blocky and has grey on him. Get over it.

Alas no. It's a solid piece. Though it is made of translucent blue plastic (painted orange) and it's gem-cut, so it looks fabulous through a light.
The inside of the trailer should have been painted so you don't end up with so much grey kibble

Check. Though that thin gray line just under the chest instead of the proper thick stripe totally reeks of that craptastic Classics Deluxe Optimus. Now that I think about it, the short & kinda fat thighs also seem like MP01 instead of MP10.
Whatever...a better weapon (instead of reusing the CW/MP09 combining style, which looks dumb here, as we NEVER SAW Orion with a weapon) would've made it almost perfect.

Way better than Rodimus Prime, but i will still pass on it. For my CHUG i have the old classic Prime and the Legends Ginrai mold and that is enough for me. Great review, this is definately a great Prime for people that have to fill a Prime gap in their CHUG collection. It does suffer from the same lazy engineering, the truckmode has a ton of kibble.
I thought titans return prime with the perfect effect upgrade (giving him a transformable ginrai cab) was a very good version of prime for that price.
I have the ultra magnus version of that mold (with the white prime perfect effect upgrade) because personally, i think the mold fits ultra magnus better.

Besides the masterpiece line I absolutely hate transformers now. These are hollow and terrible and a deluxe costs just as much as a voyager.
