I test drove this car but actually ended up getting a Mazda CX 5 Premium Plus which surprisingly offered more space and great features for a lower price. It also doesn't feel like I gave anything up by going with non luxury brand.
Actually, you gave up a lot. You will soon notice unfixable squeaks and rattles. Glitchy software. Thin paint not holding up. Cheap plastics used in many places. Seating materials wearing out quicker than normal. And Mazda denying your warranty claims. Been there done that.
@@ARentz07 They aren't equal as someone who has a family member with a CX-5. The interior quality and driving dynamics is definitely a step up over a Honda, Nissan, Toyota but isn't the same as BMW. BMW configurator. Active Front Seats including Lumbar Support $450 Active front seats help decrease stiffness or fatigue on long trips. When activated, the seat surface is continuously and imperceptibly raised and lowered from side to side, keeping your spine in motion and exercising various support muscles. This feature also includes front seat lumbar support.
I have owned 3 BMWs....1 in the driveway now. X1 has improved over the years....its also bigger than it used to be...seems about the size of the old X3. That is a sweet color....every one of mine...was black. ..yeah... I'm an expert using spray wax now. Thanks for your review...have a great week.
I bought the X1 with "Active Seats" option. It comes with lumbar support AND massaging function for both front seats. At only $450 for this option(remember, BOTH front seats), it is quite a bargain. It is the number one option that I recommend to every X1 buyer!
We bought a new 2023 BMW X1 here in Germany with US Spec's and Love it, Very nice we had one Glitch a month after we got it we begain getting a Hot engine/Hood open alarm Took it to BMW and due to man power shortage and Number of Vehicles in for Maintenace they had it for 3 weeks before getting it into the garage, with No loaner, we were spoiled American were Service was number One. Turned out it was a hood sensor. Overall, for the vehicle we give it a 10
I love how you take your entire family in the review/test drive. Really relatable 😃 Things that I hate about this X1 is the no real buttons and the awkward storage under that armrest that is just not practical. You cannot stack things up because it doesn't have walls closing the sides. Really a waste of space. And if I have to nitpick, the cup holders can be a bit higher. I feel like I have to reach further. And if you have tall cups, they'll be blocking your cellphone in the wireless charger. About the firm seats, is it because this is the M Sport package with sport seats and dampened suspensions?
Since she does video editing, i wonder if the bmw UI gives Evie ptsd, those circles just remind of the color correction wheels in many programs. Also why i bet she would end up the expert of idrive
I hated my 2018 X1 sometimes because my body hurt after two and four hour+ roadtrips in those seats. I moved to a RAV4 in 2020. Very interested in the new X1, but I’m also waiting for the new Rivian subcompact because it’s more outdoor friendly.
I test drove one about a week ago that had lumbar adjustment for the drivers seat so it must be in a package (should definitely be standard). I still didn’t find the seats super comfy compared my A4.
We are on a 39 days roundtrip in western USA and have driven a rental 2023 BMW x1, 2.8ltr for about 3.500 miles. Very nice to drive, but a terrible layout on the dash and infotainment system. It is very confusing and takes lots of your attention away from your driving. If you use the GPS you have to change the picture to ventilation/ac control, or to media control, and then back. All the time you must pinpoint a dot on the screen to choose the right point and function. Not very easy when the car is bumping and moving just a little bit. Then we had to change car because of oilservice. We got a 2023 BMW X2 2.8 ltr. Alittle bit shorter and narrover than the X1, but ok. It drives as good as the X1, and what a relief, it has a much better and more traditional layout on the dash. Ordinary speedo and rpm instruments, and the GPS, ac controls and media controls are separat. We are still driving this car and will be happy with it for about another 3.500 miles. 15:45
This is not a Japanese vehicle. It comes with extra options for extra $$$. It just happened that this specific X1 did not have the optional lumbar-support feature.
My choice was $45K. I wanted adaptable cruise, head up display, sport seats, lumbar control. Got X-line trim with 18” wheels for better ride. Car is nimble, quick, roomy, easy to get in and out of, comfortable seats. Get 36mpg on highway at 75 mph. A plus is its ability to back you out of tight spot by reversing how you got in there. Defects? Driver’s manual doesn’t discuss menus to set up the car - you must use the in-auto cryptic maze of instructions. Driver must become educated on use of throttle to avoid lags or jumps when starting from a stop. Ride reports bumps and a washboard will make you feel you’re in a massage machine. Nav system is awkward and CarPlay or Waze will become your choice.
Smart key access is the car thieves best friend. While you're loading groceries or pumping gas, the thief just gets in, presses the start button, and drives away.
Good review @Micah. Many people have complaint about the dual clutch transmission being jerky at low speeds specially while moving around in city streets, so how did you find it?
Actually we already own a 2022 Mini Countryman and LOVE it ;-) Was here looking at the X1 (X2) as our possible next car. Mini Countryman is so very unique and FUN to drive in so many ways ;-)
it's only on the really desirable colors (which is where most of the emotion is) ...and is also why you see 90% black and white BMWs (and every other leased German lux brand)
Micha and family, Shirley you know the rear windows don't go all the way down for (kiddo) safety reasons, yes?? been that way for a while.......ah yes, the [3-series] wagon (estate) killer on full display...bmw had great! wagons, then they decided to make this thing. Seating position is slightly higher than the car, but there is no real ground clearance advantage over a 3-series wagon...sad day for all
We don't know that. And don't call me Shirley. :) Seriously though. Lots of vehicles we test have windows that do go all the way down. When we started making reviews, several viewers wanted to know about the rear window situation. So we continue to share what we find.
Premium fuel on a Nissan or Chevy is more noteworthy, but it does grind my gears. A $ / 100 mile comparison (with assumed gas prices) would be better than MPG
I love my 2023 X1! The 2 months I have owned it have been sheer driving pleasure! Especially the parking assist♥️
How is the ride over rough roads and potholes?
Micah you creating unforgettable memories for your family and making them car experts

Excellent review guys. This is a cool channel. Looking forward to seeing it grow. Cheers!
this is the cape York green?
X1 is very cute and that metallic green is my fav
I had this as a rent car 2 weeks ago and I hated the gearbox when trying to make a fast start in the city. Huge lag compared to my 2022 rav4 hybrid.
This car checks so many boxes.
Great review as always!

Different class of vehicles. Compare an a4 with an x3. And a3 with x1.

this is probably their least overstyled vehicle now. most new BMWs look atrocious.
The three series is pretty good to, I especially love the taillights

I love how Micah flexes and it doesn’t even match the % anymore 😂 💪🏼💪🏼
Another awesome video. :)
Easily best in class (compact lux suv). Feels odd as a BMW to say it’s a great value but it is.
Subcompact. The X3 is compact.
It is crazy but this is the same size as 2019 X3. Old X3 is longer, but new X1 is much taller inside.
What is the name of its color?
I’m looking forward for my x1 30e M delivery
Sadly my schedule has just been shifted from September to February 24…
I have an x1 msport and love it. There's nothing I don't like.
Do all the trims come with the huge double pane sunroofs?😕
The large grill if the 4 series are to pay homage to the 1933, the BMW 303. So they are the real "traditional" grill.
How does the current 7 speed DCT compare with the previous generation's 8 speed torque converter automatic transmission?
Cauliflower smoothie needed a little unpacking.

It's hard to believe they approved this exterior design 😮
Especially when you look at the excellent interior
There is no way It's the same designer
I'd rather save some change and get a Mini Countryman over this. So much more unique than any new compact BMW suvs.

I watch anyway so I can dream. Lol
I don’t like the door handles haha but everything else is okay!
This looks like the actual direct competition for the Nx, not the x3..
This would be perfect if it had a regular automatic transmission, too bad it’s a dual clutch
The transmission is a dual clutch? Is BMW trying to make reliability even worse?!
The exterior is gorgeous! But darn it, BMW. You lose me every time on your interiors. Awwwful! I wish I could put a Mercedes interior inside a BMW.
