Been driving the new X1 for 3 months now. The user interface is fine in execution and the voice recognition works brilliantly. As a small family SUV it’s working superbly and the whole family love it; it’s actually not that small either!

Glad to see the X1 interior doesn't look down-market compared to the other BMW SUVs. Too many times, manufacturers cheap out on the interior bits with their entry level model to the point where you feel penalized for not buying the bigger and better version. The size is about the same as the X3 when they first came out, so it should meet the needs for most families. As far as pricing, it's right where it should be compared to the competition. Between the X1 and the Mercedes GLA, I'd go with the BMW.

Looking to purchase the X1M, which should remedy the lack of brake performance MM noted, or X3M for the Misses within a year… MM senses unique nuances of each vehicle he tests, that frankly, no other RUclipsr notices. According to Car and Driver the X1 brakes form 70 to 0 in 167 feet. I think that's pretty good. Maybe George has an issue with the X1 and repetitive braking making the rotors heat up? I'm not really sure what he was referring to?

The reviewer nailed it that iDrive 8 is no better than iDrive 7. Yes, the screens are bigger and you'll feel more immersive in it, but the lack of buttons makes it much less user friendly. The screens are also more reflective under the bright sun compare to the iDrive 7 screen. It's a problem when the sun is behind you while you are using the reverse parking camera. The negative effect of everyone trying to copy Tesla is infesting the car industry in general. Yes, you can omit buttons in a full electric car like Tesla, but when you do that on a "true" luxury brand like BMW it just looks cheap.

Totally agree that they f***** up the User Interface by removing the rotary knob and the physical buttons for climate control, seat heaters, etc.. I have been a loyal BMW owner for 20 years and have bought 10 BMWs over that time. I will not buy a new BMW that does not have the rotary knob and buttons. I agree that touchscreen displays are unsafe in that you must take your eyes off the road to look at the screen. Additionally, when driving over a bumpy road it is hard to accurately hit the target icon with your finger. BMW used to have designs that were the product of human factors engineers and scientists that developed optimal solutions balancing safety and ease of use. What happended? Did they abandon science in favor of trendy crap? it appears so. I will hold onto my 2023 540i (which has the knob and physical buttons) for a long time. The BMW is almost the same as a Venza limited in size and features, provided you choose the appropriate options, raising its price to about $47K. About $5K more than the Venza. Pros? The BMW has better seats, is a bit quieter, a bit smoother, a bit faster, and easier to get in and out of. Cons? Well besides the extra $5K, its camera system is not quite as good for parking, it beeps at every stop sign unless you are in sport mode, uses high test gas and gets about 10mpg less.
